To be honest, taking away character customization will reduce replayability for die-hards but it will make this game 100x more approachable for everyone else. Not having to worry about whether you are irrevocably messing up your character build will allow the player to focus on getting good at the game and not spending time making mistakes or scouring build tutorials.

Im a die hard, and have 200 hours in sekiro already, "loot" and character customization is not needed in every game. For the most part games that try to implement "loot" and character customization end up being very empty and bland, at which point "loot" is purely superficial. The game should be good first. Then if you want a loot system go ahead, dont make getting re skins of the same shit over and over, the focus of the game, because they usually turn out bad. Lookin at you assassins creed.

I agree, but I think Soulsborne didn't really suffer from this. Sure, the stat system looks like complete Hebrew the first time you play a Soulsborne game (which contributed to the feeling of complete mystery and helplessness that I've never felt since the amazing design of DKS1), but after that they're basically identical through all the games.
It's not easily approachable, but I really liked it. At the same time, RPG elements are getting shoehorned into every single game nowadays, more like an afterthought, and people don't remember games like, I don't know, Crash Bandicoot or some of those early shooters where you literally start with every resource that will be available to you.

I got it on day one and it is fantastic. One interesting thing to me is how divisive this game is. There are a huuuge amount of “I am a pro souls player with 600 hours put in and this game is garbage, it’s not cause I’m dying a lot - the game is just bad” posts. I think it boils down to saltiness that the game isn’t Dark Souls 4 and they have too rigid expectations that the game would be something it isn’t. That is what makes this such a great game though - it is different. It is incredibly unforgiving and it feels very different than a Souls game. Anyway, great video here as always and thanks.

Game kind of reminds me of a few different games. What a modern Tenchu could be similar too. Lil bit of MGS3 stealth/positioning. The high octane, intensity of metal gear rising and except more reactive and skill based from less OTT animations plus latter being hack and a slash.
I think me dying more than I expected despite playing souls games for near 15 years. 4:01 in vid really hit home when that clicked when I’d played. For example, what the hell am I doing playing this way. This isn’t a standard Soulsbourne. With the fresh mechanics I got the sense they wanted you to use all that freedom you had available.

Set monitor technology to fixed refresh, preferred refresh rate to application controlled, and vertical sync to use the 3d application setting. I couldn't decide wether to buy it or not. I checked Metacritic and those 8.0, 8.2 and 8.3 i saw from users scared me a lot. The score from professional webs was about 93 and it decreased to 8.9. Most of the users complaints aside from frames and animations like giant's grabs were the "lack of customization, pvp/coop and rpg elements" that would make it replayable. But there were msny others who basically critized it just because it isn't a Soulsborne game despite those mechanics and details all Fromsoft games share. It looks like some folks expected more from Souls and couldn't handle changes even though it was clear from the begining this wasn't too similar.
Thanks m8! Yoy are definitely the reviewer or one of the reviewers i trust the most. It's totally clear you finish games and you aren't scared of saying what the game does wrong. Many of tge reviewers don't mention defects or soften them and give higher notes so they keep sending them games. You are from what i can see free and honest.

This is an amazing game overall; but the progression system is kind of holding down the experience for me. There are a LOT of bosses around, I feel like I spend more time fighting with bosses than normal enemies. While some bosses really offer interesting fights, I'd say the most are pretty generic. Now the problem is that the only way to improve your character's attributes is behind killing bosses, so you can't really ignore them either. This turns the whole experience more about farming bosses than exploration.

Within a few hours of playing the game I named it “Sekiro smashed my controller twice”.This game is soooooooo difficult and the learning curve is unreal, it’s fun and all but holy FUCK it’s hard. Wish they woulda made it easier to kill enemies that you absolutely have to conquer to continue the story line. My girlfriend keeps telling me to return it after watching bang my controller over and over again after only having the game for 2 days (I rarely get mad at games and am pretty laid back about whatever goes on within my little virtual bubble) but I AINT NOOOOO BITCH, I REFUSE TO BACK DOWN!!!!! 10/10 tho no lie

I failed many times at hanging onto the ledges too, but then I realized that whenever I held the x button (square) Sekiro would stick his hand out in a sort of animation style, as if he was getting ready to hang onto the ledge. And so instead of pressing the x button quickly by the ledge (And failing miserably) I now hold the x button as i'm about to touch the ledge and I don't seem to be failing anymore. Give it a try and see if that works for you. I've only grabbed on to a couple of ledges since I found that out so I don't know if I just got lucky or if this is how this particular mechanic works

This game allows to make use of combos and special attacks, combining your grappling hook and your prostheric weapons.
Blocking not only allows to interrutp your own attacks (saving you from enemy countering), but also restoring your posture faster (unlike DS3).
Rolling and dogging is not as important. The key is parrying, blocking and jumping (you no longer need a ledge to lunge attacks). And you have more options to counter, via your own skills and timing.
No, Sekiro is not the same as Dark Soul's games and thats someting good. It puts veterans of the series and new members to the same level.

Ye you could hang from ledges or jump down on enemies but the stealth mechanic here just feels like a gimmick , you can’t really be hiding in shadows all the time and clearing levels with stealth because end of the day it’s not really a stealth game, it’s a frontal aggressive combat system that’s the main thing here

Personally, (and although I really enjoyed my playthrough of Sekiro), I don't agree with your verdict. I would recommend that you wait for a sale to buy Sekiro, not because it's a bad game, but because it utterly lacks replayability. It has a really strong combat system, but once you've mastered that system, there's no impetus to go back and play the game again, unlike previous FromSoft games. Maybe I just have high expectations, having logged 150+ hours on each of the souls games and bloodborne, but I expect more from a Soulslike than a single (albeit strong) 25-hour playthrough, and the lack of ANY real options that would entice me to go back and do another playthrough is a real turn-off. the Skill trees are largely superfluous (and there's no shortage to skill points, either), the prosthetic upgrades are weirdly gated to prevent you from focusing on just a few tools, and NG+ is a joke.
I feel like this is game I would be comfortable recommending that someone drop 30-40 bucks on, but not the full retail price.

same here. playing through souls games with alternating routes and builds is something heavily replay able. here I think the moment to moment combat is more intricate at times, but the progression is quite stale... the prayer beads and memory upgrades are the worst offender here, basically giving you the impression of progress to just keep up with inflating enemy numbers
