The computer analogy for shop smith: Shop smith is like a Windows program - it does every thing, but none of it really well, and then only for the most common things. Picking individual tools is like Linux - you need to figure out exactly what you want, and how to get it, but when you're done, your tools do exactly what you want, and do it well. So there you have it - I managed to hate on two completely different things! BTW, congratulations on your upcoming 200th!
Logan - I had spent far too much time in Texas when I was in the military - almost all of it in the San Antonio area. I agree, too hot and humid!!!! Having said that, during the winter months, it’s not too bad and there are some great things to see and do. Austin s a great place to visit. I don’t know if they still do it but years ago, once or twice a week, they would shut down one of the main roads with most of the bars downtown and have this giant party. It was a ton of fun, lots of live music and people watching …
You have recently poo pood the idea of the shop smith machinery. Have you seen the video the Shop Nation put up about his visit to this American icon. It may be on its knees but they are trying to get it back up and running for all those with limited space but want all the machines. Yes there is a compromise but for some it will fill the need.

Phil, that coffee mug is such a great size. Hard to find here in Australia.
The mug is made by a place not far from here. They have a booth at the Iowa State Fair. Come on over and get one! www.iowastatefair.org/
