One of my neighbors up the street makes stuff outta log's like that. And he has the same machine u have. And i watched him actually make 4 stands for my glass coffee table. And they came out amazing.
It looked like you were going to make a captured ring vase, which would have been awesome. It's still awesome, though. I love the golden color, the soft swirly grain punctuated with charming wormholes. It's beautiful!
I learned how to use a wood lathe in jr high- first gal in wood shop back in the mid 60s. LOVED IT! Didn't realize I'd opened the door to other gals doing the same. Still miss the smell of wood.

Oooh, that is one hell of a nice item. Very beautiful and great craftsmanship to the point I’d buy that in a heart beat. The bark of a tree is like a superman. I didn’t realise that it’s truly protective even when engulfed with fire. I did see it once on a nature program but didn’t realise to the extent that when everything looks dead in the water, charcoal to cinders, everything underneath is still absolutely functional and fine. I’ve always had a natural love for and of wood and have always wished to do craftsmanship as you and with various acrylic colourful glowing patterns in wood (but I also love playing my piano and takes up a lot of my time). Which brings me to the question, do you feel you’d not want to sculpt patterns, scenery or animals etc into the wood and colour it with marbled acrylic and smooth it off? Cos that would be more than amasing. Anyway, suffice to say loved the video.😮❤
@@AloyciousJohn There were at least 2 inches of that charred wood, this was the equivalent of using an entire tree to make a single toothpick, if you know the reference I will be shocked.
The positivity in the comments are so nice. It turned out great. I Wanna mess with ya and say I hope you find someone interested in a wood lamp base, but I don't know you and I saw how much time you put into it. My advice to you would be to cut the stump into four pieces and make dough rollers and sell them on the internet or something. I don't see anyone with a wood lamp anymore and the reason why is because no one wants a wood lamp base. Wood bowls are nice. Anywho keep up the good work.
I would respectfully disagree with you. When the tree trunk is as burned as that one was the sap and fluids deep inside boil away, thus creating the brilliant yellow and brown grain marks in the finished piece. The wood is also wonderful to work with as it is pretty much bone dry and easy to cut through consistently. Even better is wood that has been submerged in the water for a long period. I have seen some absolutely beautiful guitars made from submerged wood.
Yes, and that a badly charred trunk was used and not discarded is in itself something. I expected to see more 'discolouration' on the wood. Pretty good. TFS
Вы не обижайтесь, но проточить поверхность древесины при наличии станка не требует особых навыков и познаний. Я это говорю как человек работавший в этой сфере.

What was the point in charring the wood?? He also has a poor lathe technique.
My guess it was in a fire and rescued since charring the outside wouldn't change the middle much. As far as the other he got the job done.
