The dispatcher did a remarkable job of staying composed and handling all the information
True,Was a technical and professional job.
He was truly remarkable
This is very emotional. I don't know why I thought it would not be hard, but it is. It's STILL heartbreaking, 20 years later 😭. I will NEVER EVER forget... 💔
We all feel the same way it’s still so raw I’ve been crying all week we will never forget never 😭🇦🇺
Same here
But you DID forget. The real criminals are still at large. And they correctly counted on you forgetting....
@@jamesbarlow6423 Wow! Commenting on other comments from 1 year ago and you think you have all the answers? Don't try and tell others what they've forgotten and the supposed consequences. You believe whatever you want but my comment still stands. I will NEVER forget the horror of that day and will remember the victims every 9/11 until I die. Try staying current before commenting and leave others to their emotions, even if you have none or don't agree with them.
I feel the same way. Even 21 years later 😢
It's February, 2023 and no matter how many times I have watched episodes on 9-11, I feel deep gratitude, for all who stood together in such terrible circumstances.
I do hope healing has been found for all involved.
Love Australia
It’s crazy it took over an hour from the second collapse at 1:41:00 until 2:44:00 to establish a new command post led by a chief. It just shows how chaotic the situation was and how many department leaders were lost in the collapses.
i think death toll would’ve been alittle less if radios worked fully, but then again there wasn’t a lot of time
I cry everytime I listen to this. Brings me back to that day. All I know is, I'll never forget
Dispatcher deserves a Nobel Peace price and the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his calmness and professionalism through the worst day at work ever for any dispatcher in US history.
When rescue personnel give up all their hopes and dreams to respond so others may have hope, each day I say 'Thank you'.
UA-cam, stop the ads on this one. Show respect ya mutts
I don’t think UA-cam controls ads, I think the person who posts the video has the option to monetize it with ads.
UA-cam would be the last company to respect this
For real
Mad respect to John Lightsey. He held down hard and did so amazingly.
The silence is deafening when he's calling out the ladders and engines that were in WTC 2 and getting nothing back
It’s just as bad every time I listen to it, every year, multiple times. I will never forget this day. I only wish the young gen z flying Palestinian flags and agreeing with Bin Laden would one day understand how stupid they truly are.
Incredible how focused on their job with multiple situation changes and the total size of the task being navigated, the professionalism of all heard on these comms remains at a level of calm and clarity having to constantly adjust to suit circumstances. Nothing but respect to all involved and also r i p to those that lost their lives, God Bless.
yes! professionalism and integrity.
1:00:44 "Hundred and Fourth floor 50 people trapped with fire burning underneath them" "Okay" Freakin heroes. Almost brings a tear to my eyes. Rip guy's.
Notice how quiet the back and forth became
Literally not one transmission was “what do we do?” “How are we supposed to get up there?!” Nothing, they just went to work with some of them knowing they weren’t coming back home, but they were going to get as many people out as possible. As quoted by Jay Jonas, one of few survivors of the collapse and the “miracle of stairway B” …“they’re trying to kill us boys”, and they went to work saving Josephine Harris
It's amazes me that 22 years later the amount of stress that the dispatching centers alone had for this tragic day in NYC, DC and PA. Every side of emergency services; law enforcement, fire, EMS, and dispatchers were pushed to their limits but still powered through because the hardest thing to do was the right thing to do.
What happened in DC that was tragic?
@@silentHangus, the crash into the Pentagon.

The fire knowledge lost that day cannot be replaced for many, many years.
First call Was at 8:45 done by battalion chief Joseph Pfeifer from battalion 1. He was the First Chief on scene. He was one of the 4 fdny battalion chiefs that survied. He later wrote a book about that day
Yes he’s an absolute legend to me . I have his book .
Is he the one who said we had a plane crash into the upper floor of world trade center
@@stephenkerish8059 i think he did. Either that or it came the other unit Officers
He returned from retirement and served as First Deputy Commissioner from Feb 2023 to Aug 2024 and served a few days as acting comissioner this month.
@@stephenkerish8059yes, he also said it looked to be aiming towards the tower. But he is the very first transmission you will hear on this audio of this day. He made the first call. Which is videotaped by happenstance. From a routine gas leak to the worst day in the history of the FDNY. He lost his brother that day. It was truly heartbreaking listening to his story
RIP ..and to all those who bravely went in to save others.... Such a horrible day
My biggest Respect's and Condolences to all who've did there best to help on 9/11❤
I wonder if the civilian in the fire truck was ever found alive. Heart renching hearing his calls for help.
According to the NPR article "Tapes Shed More Light on Sept. 11 Chaos" the man was rescued.
SMITH: "The man was rescued. It was one of the few lucky breaks heard on the tapes."
It was pure coincidence that the Naudet brothers were filming a documentary about a probie assigned to the station closest to the WTC and one of the brothers just happened to be filming the firefighters from that station checking for a gas leak on a street with a line of sight directly to the north side of the north tower right when American Airlines flight 11 impacted the building. I’m not aware of any other footage that shows such a clear view of that historic moment.
Because they were tagging along with those firefighters, we can correlate much of this dispatch audio to what has happening at ground zero. All other footage is limited to what is happening outside. Today, everyone carries a video camera and events are frequently captured for posterity but in 2001 this was not the case and it’s just pure luck that the Naudets gave us such a revealing perspective to this infamous incident.
I’ve listened to this so many times, and it wasn’t until just today that I heard the guy asking for the Army. 😢
Timestamp?
@@andyshepard4309 1:16:36
Yeah I noticed that, and he was correct. Luckily not only army personnel came, the entire country did. From construction workers to CEO’s, everyone helped
25:33 calling all those units. Calling everyone. Hits hard.
Bless the professionalism of the dispatcher.
Some people say it was a missile and footage was edited but the very first transmission was them saying it was an airplane. There’s no way they can say the government told them to lie about it now.
They don’t care. Literal eyewitnesses and survivors have given their explanations of what they experienced, and i personally am related to eyewitnesses.
There was no “bombs” or missiles attacking the building.
The building did fall into itself and failed.
Many good people died, and its considered insulting to ignore what happened and daydream about covert conspiracy theories. Especially the ones that suggest the passengers didn’t die or didn’t exist.
And here we are …all that did besides hurt the families that are heartbroken…and who know what happened is spread hate…sad and people wonder why the unity isn’t the same
RIP Orio Palmer and all who we lost that day and continue to lose ❤️
his story is incredible also with ron bucca, bucca was a green beret before fdny also
I'm 2 hours in and I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack thinking about the stress that dispatcher is under.
Rest in peace to those who didnt realize a plane was gonna crash into the floors where their desks sat and to the others. I hope it was painless.
Marine Capt Fuentes sustained crushing injuries to his skull, lungs, and ribs and lay pinned beneath a steel girder for over two hours. .... you can hear he is trying to keep it together ❤️ ✨️
what time stamp was he at? do you remember?
@@taem223He's in many places on the recording after the second collapse. He was badly injured and going in and out of consciousness and didn't always use the correct callsign, I don't know that he ever referred to himself as "Marine Division." He did the best he could but he couldn't see where he was and was very badly hurt. He survived and spent months recovering, and went on to become a motivational speaker.
It still breaks my heart hearing oreo Palmers last transmission these guys made me want to be a fire fighter
If you are young there is nothing more glorious for you to be. Good luck.
I had friends inside the Towers. Some made it out, some did not. The ones that did said as they were walking down the stairs the building security personnel were telling people to return to their offices. Many people turned around and went back in.
Please note the dispatcher never said "I know it has been reported" he calmmy did his job. He is a hero, too. Imposdible to fight a fire that high. First it takes forever to climb thst high caring 100lbs of gear. Orio Palmer was a runner, he ran the stairs after taking the elevator as far as it went. Later the elevator quit working trapping firefighters in the elevator. They tried to axe they way out. Never heard if they made it. GOD Bless all the innocent people who died.
He also was responsible for single handedly fixing an elevator to the 40th floor and fixing the repeater radio system so they could get better communication. He was on recording AT the impact site, he made it all the way, he just ran out of time. he is a true 9/11 legend.
God bless America. I was in the 6th grade on 9-11.
I was too, I remember being in class and then the teacher turned the TV on to the news just after the first plane hit and we watched a small part of the news coverage but then our parents were called to come and pick us up only about an hour into the school day.
I was 21 skipping work
My god it’s still to this day painful and gut wrenching to listen to…
My heart cries for the families ever hearing this 💔😭😔
I'll never forget were I was when this happened 9/11/01
No one will forget where they were. I won't.
Listening to this really makes you understand why Jon Stewart fifhts for these folk and rightly so.
I completely agree . These hero’s that survived so many of them are ill and dying and they need someone to fight their corner .
Absolute pros. 💯 it's like they do that every day.
They do, but not as complicated or dwadly.
Extraordinary
They all were going to their own funerals and didn't even know it. RIP.
Oh they knew what was happening
Many of them knew that they might never make it out, but they still went because they knew those innocent people needed them.
They knew , that’s what makes them so noble . THEY KNEW when they looked up and see. The fire they knew when 2 to 3 blocks away there was debris all over the FFDNY THEY DID KNOW . Don’t get it twisted that’s just what they do they go up when everything in them says not to . That’s why there fucken amazing without Hesitation
They knew. And they knew if they lived it was going to be their worst day ever as a firefighter.
They know that each time they enter a burning building.
1:11:39 The feedback is during the collapse and the presses are likely from mass pressing either around, or in the building
I want you to be wrong, but you’re not. It’s them all getting crushed to death and their radio buttons getting impacted by the collapse before they were completely smashed:(
Rip ladder 118
We will never forget
Sadly, terribly, and horribly, we have. 😞

People who were out on their boats that day are as much heroes as FDNY and co. A lot of people got on those boats from the towers. Thus helped when the towers fell and that smoke cloud...............
How many of these voices lost their lives to protect complete strangers?
343 firefighters lost their lives that September morning
It’s impressive that it took Chief Pfeiffer within a minute to recognize its not an accident.
Even more that they made an official announcement that it was likely a terror attack only 2 minutes after the attack.
Probably made the second crash less confusing and more reasonable to believe for those inside the building, especially with some as eyewitnesses.
Yes, Pheiffer and the other man that announced this (I don’t know his name) are true heros. KNOWING it’s an attack and they have no clue what they were going into, could have been biological, but they didn’t care. They were saving as many people as they could. In a way it was biological, as more have died of cancer by far from the pile than on the day.
This sounds strange given that we now know the outcome, but I still expect them to walk out and complain that the radio system is rubbish and that they were alive just hidden for a while. If a mere albeit distant watcher thinks this, I wonder if the families thought this, especially the ones who didn't come home
If you go and watch various documentaries that are on youtube, you can hear how the families thought this... thinking they were busy or any other thing other than that the person they loved and cared for was dead and they were never going to see them again.
@@quietreader4190 I did the WTC tour with a family member who lost a loved one, at the time of the tour, her son hadn't been found

It is so hard to hear this omg I seen the destruction so traumatic
That first report of people trapped on 1 WTC 106th floor...that was Windows on the World, the restaurant. There were over a hundred people in there for a breakfast meeting in addition to the restaturant staff. None got out.
Possible stupid question, but what is meant by “K” in many of the transmissions?
Okay
In the FDNY terms..terns... "K" means the end of the user's transmission.
Comes from old morse code "K" end of transmission
It’s a throwback to the old telegram, it’s like a faster way of saying “over”
So how many channels does FDNY have?
The PD and FD in my city has at least 10 radio channels.
Sad ending
So all the squawking at 1:11:45 is....
The firefighters being crushed. It's happens again at 1:41:00
@@1nemann @Red Raptor yes, that is push to talk (PTT) buttons on handhelds being pressed by stuff hitting them as all those brave folks where coming down with the towers... Was doing a blood drive at UNIVERSITY in New Orleans was talking to a couple of donors and every time a plain flew around UNO they would start taking in a foreign language. After a while one of the guys looked really nervous and passed out. About 20 minutes later I was talking to one of the girls working in front of the library and a couple of men from overseas was talking crazy and I told the girl that I was talking to that it sounds like terrorist and she said at the same time that sounds like sabotage. Then the 3or4 men took off around the side of the library. Then the next thing I hear the next day is about the train center and a plain crashing into it. And I was talking to someone in the super market and telling them what we heard the day before and the second plain crashed. I'm freaking out and left the supermarket and stopped and told my mom about it. I also told the blood center what we heard the day before. This is crazy because there were people that I feel knew what was going to happen before it happened. Because they had no reason to be panicking when they were seeing plains over head . Or the people talking off around the building when we said they were talking crazy. I still feel like someone should have checked out what I told them I heard and saw on the blood drive that day. They have cameras there by the library and record showing the boy that passed out that day . And could see pictures of the men from eather Iran or Iraqi. I will always believe that those foreners knew what was going to happen.
Okay lady....
17:30 - "a large GREEN aircraft..."
I'd give him the benefit of the doubt on the color considering it was traveling over 500 mph on impact. And considering every single camera feed trained on the towers after the first impact clearly show an airliner.
