New to Doom Eternal. Or more like I sucked at it in 2022 and returned to it last weekend. It's reassuring that some of the stuff like "action combos" and "don't think just do" are already stuff that I've started to teach myself. As a Halo fan I tried approaching this more "tactically" and got my ass handed to me and I figured the game wasn't for me. Weird connection but playing Dead Space recently really helped me get through my mental block of learning to enjoy games that "aren't for me." Spun up Doom just for the heck of it and I realized just how much better I was at the game since I was playing it on its own terms. At least I'm on the right track and I'll definitely try to learn the other stuff. Thanks!
Halo, Dead space and Doom are my top 3 franchises. I actually had a similar experience going from Eternal to Infinite.
@@ControllerQuickSwaps Halo Infinite’s combat sandbox is excellent. Replays aren’t that great having to regrind all the weapons and upgrades.

Brilliant video! This is *exactly* the video I was hoping you to drop someday and here it is... Stoked for part two!
One thing about quick switching that will make it even faster is to for example just go to the heavy canon, shoot a precision bolt and then hold the left trigger and press and hold the right bumper and select the combat shot gun, then release the right bumper and shoot the sticky. So you set up your weapon switching on the fly. Needs some practice but it's worth it.

Dude I’ve had my vertical sensitivity all the way up for like two years now and taking it down to 50 drastically helped out my aim. I used to use aim assist as well but only at .25 as I didn’t think it would affect my gameplay that much, but after turning it off completely I won’t be able to go back. Excellent tips man. We definitely need a part 2!

I'm on a mission to beat Ultra Nightmare, so far, I've beaten Super Gore Nest, 100%, I even did all the secret encounters and slayer gates so far. I've been abusing equipment and blood punch more, back when I first played, it was Super Shot Gun, Ballista and Ice bomb, that's it, now I've been using everything to progress further and further.
Never really thought about the fact it wouldn’t matter what I use because it would be automatically replenished eventually

a personal tip i can give to pepole is to map the super shotgun and chaingun sheild to their own buttons. it's so useful when getting out of glory kills and in panic situations

Ok so this is for the people who wants to be good at the game and doesn't wanna watch 4 separate videos so here is what I can gather from those
From the "Git Gud" Video: it talks about how you need to subconsciously make the right moves in the battle and stay calm when you're low
From the "Doom Dance" video: it's a pretty interesting thing to cover since Quickswaps left minor details very complex but I could see what I can do.
The video talks about how skills can be improved by a traning sequence and what could be improved on and learning them, and getting them right makes them automatic at the time fly and that pattern connects harder so that next time you do the PB + Lock on tech it's pretty easy and done without thought
And what's interesting it's about gaming iq which is problem solving, knowledge about the game etc not really important though
From the "Doom Addicting" video: it mostly talks about facts in that video but the point is that dopamine is a chemical in your brain if something unexpectedly exciting happens if you predict something happened you won't release much dopamine. Another thing to point out from the video is that the brain gives a huge adrenaline rush from enjoyment from the game, it can happen if you're low on health or have huge dopamine

Wow my man i just started playing doom 2 weeks ago and have not ever played doom before, love the game i love the combat and the strategy theres no fps like it and this video is probably the best ive seen in terms of over all tips/ advice to improve etc

Trying to beat dlc on eternal on series x (beat both games on nightmare, not dlc yet on eternal). Super appreciate all the tips! You are insane man. The dlc on eternal is hardest out of all the rest easily IMO. Props to another controller player. This has helped. Still takes me awhile to get to each checkpoint but I will beat it some day lol.

The first tip is for people who play doom eternal pretty much every day and have done for months or even years because in order to make everything come together automatically like you say you need alot of hours on this game so that tip isn't going to help me but I will try the sensitivity settings tips, I just finished doom 2016 for the first since in years and I'm about to start eternal tomorrow and wanted some tips to help out as I know it's harder than 2016

ive been playing the game wrong this whole time. i pretty much only use the shotgun and sometimes the heavy rifle and also the plasma rifle for sheild enemies.
There's no wrong way to play, experiment with finding what is most *fun* for you and you'll probably end up playing your best :)

Coming back after 7 months, I have gotten much better. My quickswapping is faster, and general movement is better. I also made some changes to controller binds to make gameplay better, and I still play mars core master level mostly every week on ultranightmare. I just have a few questions:

Cool tutorial dude when I first saw this i was stoked by your gamepaly and wanted to try out your tips but I actually got a couple questions in terms of your tips
1: But do I really have to do the max out the weapon wheel time it feels like it will impact my gameplay a lot
2: I play doom eternal with no hud myself however my near my aim crosshair it shows when a grenade, ice bomb, Blood punch, Flame belch is fueled so im wondering if I should turn off The Recticle Ability Indicator
3: should I turn off crosshair because I feel like I need to rely without it in order to aim better and do I set my vertical sensitivity to 0 or 50 (It's just a recommendation)
4: la sheil labouf ah yes but the only problem is that when I Launch a ice bomb to a marauder the mad lad runs away so i guess i will just be spamming grenades and should I spam the Equipment launcher switch and Launch everytime?
5: I dont have any questions regarding to this other than is putting a enemy into a glory kill optional or is it necessary?
6: I know these are not in your tips but should I focus on one enemy I want to kill or is there brain lore that I can't
7: you don't have to answer this I feeling like there is way too much questions but If I follow all of these tips how long does it take to "git gud"
You probably won't be seeing this but hopefully these questions will not impact My gameplay
1. I dont suggest you keep it at max. It's something to play around with for 10 minutes (not in heavy combat) just to get a mastery of the timing.
2. I personally find the extra reticle info really distracting. I'd definitely suggest turning them off.
3. Practicing without the reticle is always a great move. I'd say the vertical sensitivity to about 50 personally.
4. Haha yea the ice bomb on the maurader is an accident I still do myself. If you can make the time to check which grenade you have equipped it's the best, but otherwise it's a gamble with marauders.
5. I personally always try to put the demon into glory kill state if there's no cost to it. The extra health is really helpful, but don't let it slowdown your playstyle.
6. Haha brain lore. The brain lore is that you can keep 7 plus or minus 2 demons in your working memory. But the more spread out your focus the less cognitive resources you'll have for each, so I tend to try to keep my focus on one or two, but switch my focus frequently.
7. Haha that really depends on you. But dont get demotivated even if it takes some time. Enjoy the feeling of improvement which will happen quickly if you keep trying to push yourself with harder challenges :)

Just switched all my sensitivitys and turned off aim assist like 10 mins ago, and so far it hasnt increased my aim, but it hasnt decreased it either, but I'm sure I'll get better

Dont worry man, I never did campaign UN myself either. There are more fun ways to challenge yourself. Try to UN all the master levels in a row, I've found that's a much more fun challenge.

wow that sounds remarkably applicable to my current predicament… and ya the video with your face had me thinkin “damn, homie looks like he been up for a hot minute” hahahaaaa i feel ya there. hey so i was also wondering since your advice has already helped me quite alot(and ive only really gotten to sequential compression, thank you btw), how do you think i might go about working on the opposite HUD problem? being oc that i can never seem to remember that any of it exists, like ill die sittin there mashin a button that i coulda knew wasnt gonna do anything if ida just remembered to look(or that there was anywhere that told me). lol i might as well have it set to crosshair only for all the use i get out of it, at least during combat anyway it helps before and after.
and isnt joystick sensitivity just the weirdest thing, more specifically how much changes from one game to another, hell even within a game? like i started on og tendos and genny, a little atari here n there(aside from the matching crapple laptops pops and i used to have warcraft battles) so once i built my first(and only) tower and discovered mouse aiming upon going back to the controller i thought higher sensitivity is always ideal and i just needed to get better to not suck with that shit all the way up. but after plenty hours i never reach that mouse snap level of better i had thought was possible. you are the first person ive ever heard say that its all about the movement, which might just have been the best tip possible.
Should i change the weapon wheel to only 4 weapons to make quick switching easier and more precise? Just cycle between SSG, ballista, rocket launcher and chain gun?
Some people do that but I've personally always preferred keeping all my weapons in one place
@@ControllerQuickSwaps im new to this game so im finding it much easier to quick switch between only 4 weapons as I don’t have to be as precise in the heat of the moment with my analog stick if i chose the wrong gun for what i want to do etc. i may be wrong but it seems to me that the best 4 guns in the game are the SSG, Ballista, rocket launder and chaingun. Ejther way only having the 4 weapons has made it a lot easier for me to get quick switching down and to help me use ice bombs/ grenades etc its less to worry about
@@hjk3351 sounds like it's a good stepping stone for you. It's a great idea to try to get as good as you can with these 4 guns, and add more to the mix once you feel ready.

Your video detailing your settings has been a huge help, the no look smoothing/ no aim assist, 100 horizontal sens and 50 vertical has helped so much great video man

Even with the dozens upon dozens of workarounds you just listed, Eternal is just unplayable on a controller to me. It's just a shortcoming of the controller itself. There's nothing that can overcome the hurdle I face while using a controller.
It takes a lot of time to overcome, years even, and if you prefer playing on m&k, play your way :) I get that controller is not for everyone.

I turned down aim assist strength and it helped a lot
I personally recommend against target snapping. It takes a lot to get used to, but it forces your aim to get a lot better and that skill generalizes.

Currently playing on nintendo switch but I’m thinking of buying an xbox series s to play in 120FPS. I don’t have a PC that can play Doom Eternal and it’s out of my price range to buy one on a whim.
@@tbone8358 I know a lot of really great players have crazy different layouts from me. If there's a layout you enjoy I wouldnt call it bad.
What I can say is that I find most of the default controls very intuitive but that may just be me. Definitely recommend moving to xbox controller from Switch controller though.

Any tips for using a controller in general in terms of aim for all shooters and not just doom?
I think the big ones I use for all games is high horizontal sensitivity + low vertical, and finetuning aim with movement.

If you're on PC than the community-made levels are incredible at pushing you to improve. If you're on console practicing on the hardest Slayer Gates in UV could be good practice.

I control my movement with left hand (LS jump, LB dash) and weapons with right hand (RB glory kill, RS wheapon wheel). What do you think is most optimal? This setup is great to use a weapon mode while jumping, dashing around, aiming and shooting; But my hands start hurting after an hour or two of intense gameplay
@@themagicalgamer6522 I would imagine it's pretty player specific. I really like default settings because I prefer to do things in quick succession instead of in parallel. But the right settings for you I think depends on your personal playstyle.

I’m still trying to get used to doom eternal so these tips do help. Aiming and quick switching is still hard to do so I’m still practicing.

@@ControllerQuickSwaps I did a playthrough on release on ultra violence. Picked it back up recently and doing a nightmare run now and have made it to the end of Doom Hunter base so far. Brutal! Fugg a keyboard!! Should be disabled for a ultra nightmare, y'all PC don't deserve the gold armor like that. ✌️ Appreciate the video.

@@ControllerQuickSwaps until it is done... Or my marbles fly out of my ears. I'm using Chrono strike quote a bit. You can do a small hop and hold the mod button so it works on the ground. If you're getting cornered it's great to give you a few seconds to look for an out or use whatever equipment you can.
Great video as always friend. Also, on controller, you get two free binds (N/A and Mission Information) without having to sacrifice anything. Recommend ssg and pb or ballista. Makes swapping so much smoother. If you wanna go that extra step, getting rid of the weapon mod swap for a third weapon since you can change them in the arsenal menu like you would for runes.

Yea I still haven't taken advantage of the free binds cause I'm just so picky about which buttons I like to use, but I really should try it out already.

100% recommend the ballista as a bind over the pb if you’re only going to do the 2 binds on controller. This will allow you to punch swap with the ballista and send yourself across the map! If you primarily play battlemode, consider changing the switch equipment and/or crucible/sentinel hammer binds to any weapons you feel fit for your play style.
@@TheGarlicOwl one step ahead of you boss. I already have ssg, pb, ballista, and rocket launcher bound (for BM and single player) lol. Still great advice as well. Punch swapping is so addicting. I love zooming across the map plus rocket punch swaps are great for damaging/softening up groups of AI summons while conserving ammo

Just started playing Doom Eternal in 2024. Loved Doom as a kid back in 93. Going from not gaming for probably 8 years to this was a jump, great though.

I feel this. I played Doom back as a kid and loved. I was thrilled when I had heard about the Remake back in 2016. Loved that game. Eternal is on a whole other level, though. As a casual gamer, I really struggle with committing tons of hours to master a game.
