I was a huge fan of the original, They should have refined the mechanics overtime instead of just streamlining everything.
Still looks like a fun game no doubt, but its merely become another faceless husk in a sea of much better games because it traded in its unique features..

I liked DR 2 just because it had more than one save file. DR1 sucked for just having one save.

On PC, it's supposedly a Windows Store exclusive for 90 days only. Best to wait for a Steam version IMO.

ACG That wasn't just something I made up to make a point, that was the actual thinking behind Capcom. Yes I know you probably know this ACG but some reading will not.
They said they were bringing Frank back, as he was Dead Rising and then a few months later they showed off some footage, completely changing everything about him that made up Frank West.
Which just makes the whole idea of this one being a huge nostalgia trip but with better game mechanics, totally redundant. LOL. Really bizarre decision but then again... It is Capcom.
I wouldn't have cared if Capcom didn't make such a big deal over the fact that they were bringing West back again. Only to give us someone else almost entirely anyway?

well there was an interview i saw recently that they said the way they set up the ending for this game they set it up so they can make a dead rising 5 and 6.

Thats what I'm thinking while looking at this even tho there are less zombies in 1 they can kill you in a couple of bites and scratches, you also dont have an unlimited weapon supply so its always a struggle to get through but thats what makes it fun.

Solid and honest review, thank you! Definitely agree that this was a "wait for sale" but then again honestly, aside from a select few, all games are a "wait for sale" on launch day as far as Im concerned until these publishers/devs start living up to higher standards.
As someone who doesnt like timed missions and hasn't played the first two in this series, I am having a blast with it so far (on case 3). Call me a casual if you want - but I have a toddler and very limited time to sit down and play anything so I need something fun that I can play in short increments that won't take 100 hours to complete. This fits the bill.
Not that its perfect for me either though, its a ton of fun but I do wish there was proper campaign co op and that there were difficulty settings. Feels like the game is set to "easy" and Id much rather ramp it up to medium, maybe hard - still without a time limit though. I had fun with Dead Rising 3 but even the "neutered" time limit in that entry turned me off of it.... Dont see why a time limit off/on setting cant be available in addition to difficulty settings for those who want it.

It seems ever since its exclusivity with Microsoft is where Dead Rising peaked. Cut out half of the fans from Playstation is a deal breaker I hate exclusives. Also you lose potential extra money from a business standpoint.
the only standout thing about dr3 was the gameplay which was just dr2's and dr1's with a little bit extra

I never played a Dead Rising game, but i am a huge evil dead fan and this Frank West reminds me of Ash. So, can i play this game as a new player or do i need to play the older games first for the whole lore? Good review btw! you got a new sub.

I liked where deadrising 3 took the series. I know its supposed to be goofy and killing dozens of zombies is fun. But if its not 1% scary or serious...then it shouldnt be zombies, it might as well be teletubbies. The darker tone set a slighty more scary and real feeling, while maintaining its humor. Glad DR4 kept this darker tone
I've never played the dead rising series, but I'm interested in this one I'll wait for a sale.

Couple thoughts:
-Still not convinced about the removal of a time limit, as well as some other more minor changes (health system, how you react to human damage, etc)
-Voice actor change seems like a step down, but no where near as bad as something like Garrett in Thief 2014
-Why has no game in the series since the original had really think, dense blood splatters on the ground when you hit/kill an enemy?

Gonna pick this up sometime. The hack n slash genre is so under-represented and under-shadowed by action/adventure and arpg games it always kinda triggers me people calling (for example) devil may cry or diablo hack n slash.
sengoku basara, chaos legion, warriors orochi, ninety nine nights, demon chaos, samurai western, gungrave, etc THOSE are hack n slash. DR 4 seems to be fitting that list just fine and I love it.
So did you get your hands on the pc version?
If you did, does it run 60fps?
As someone who absolutely loved to just kill hordes of zombos in Dr3 and Dr2 Otr, Ill probably buy it if the port is atleast almost ok.
I'd actually prefer an easy dead rising. If I want a challenge I'll play the first one.

Great review, based off of this, I would buy it at 40$ or so dollars.
I enjoyed DR3, but the world design of 3 was one of it's biggest flaws. There were barriers EVERYWHERE. So driving vehicles was a pain. I still thought friendly A.I. was awful. I did like Nick, and the story though.
Overall based off of your review I would get it on a sale, but I heard there was no co-op. That's a dealbreaker for me. :/

Getting rid of co-op campaign is honestly the biggest deal breaker. The best memories I have from dead rising 2 were playing with a friend

Personally I've seen a bunch of mixed reviews about this game and I've watched gameplay and this is what I get from it. The story is interesting the gameplay is the best in a while and has a few bugs like every other one but they took out some of the series' staples like co-op(depressing 😔), timer(so and so), and psychopaths(Imo this is cringe worthy). Besides those few small and yet 1 major problem I'm still gonna buy it due to the fact that it's Frank(my favorite), Willamette(the best location), and of course the gameplay that we all love. I personally just hope that they'll implement a difficulty system in the future similar to dr3 because that was perfect for everyone imo. Really looking forward to this game because well it's dead rising and I've enjoyed all of them especially 1 and 2 and OTR was fun as hell too dr3 had its moments but didn't feel the same. Ohh well still looking forward to this 😊😊

Have you considered adding an "intro" / "background" section upfront to explain the game, the origin, etc... Most of the time you discuss this at the beginning of the gameplay section which is actually the 3rd one so it's odd because when we start the video on graphics sometimes we have no idea about what the game is about so we can't really appreciate or understand what is presented in the video at that time. Not often when it's AAA title because we usually know these pretty well already but less known titles would likely benefit from this intro. Love your style though and the usual touch of humor.

It's really disappointing how they threw away everything that made deadrising deadrising. If you've played the original recently, you'll know that it still holds up really well. If the devs had actually set out to make a revamped DR1, this game could have turned out a lot better.

Another great review by the go-to Gaming Guru. I was looking forward to this one like a sponge bath from a Swedish masseur. Now I think I may just take a shower to cool off on the holiday spending bug. I'm still keen to get on board with Frank's new groove, all in the spirit of Christmas, but I think I may have to wait till next year. For now, it's back to Gears 4, The Division, and Titanfall 2, while I wait for Dishonoured2 to arrive in the mail. Congrats on 200K subs and keep up the great work. Till the next review, Game Ooooon!

Nice review as always! I've always enjoyed Dead Rising games; but I might wait for a sale or at least won't be picking it up on day one. All that killing zombies with creative ways formula gets old after a little while and Dead Rising franchise need more tricks under it's sleeve.

Love the dead rising series 1 & 3 especially 2 was ok. I can't wait to buy this it's a must have now. The issues pointed out is not a deal breaker for me. $59.99 is not a bad price for this game. I've said it before and I'll say it again I've paid $60 for worst.

I adored DR2 but despite the lack of psychos, a time limit, manual saves or a real challenge I still absolutely love this game for it's world design and pacing and has actually turned out to be my favourite of series despite probably being more inherently flawed than 2. DR3 was a major disappointment for me but maybe that's because I completed 2 at least 12 times lol and memorised the map, secrets and shortcuts.

I'm a fan but the truth is I would much prefer gameplay and the inclusion of a story section segment at the start of the video. I appreciate that some viewers may turn it off having seen such segments and I don't know what they would mean to the viewer numbers but IMO I feel it would help the flow of the overall review(s). Again, I couldn't do what you do, I find your product superior to that of the "major players", this is just me nitpicking. Good review.
