I went with a 3500 SRW Duramax...I needed the payload for towing a gooseneck, and the increased GCWR. 10,000 miles since February and it's been great! LTZ trim level too...the chrome bumpers hold up better to stone chips, etc.
The 3500hd has a 12" rear end whereas the 2500HF has a 11.5" rear end. This allows the 3500HD to put down all 910 torque in first gear lockup. They also ride identical the overload springs do not make the ride stiffer. Road bumps don't make it to the overloads.
Great video. The 3500s get a bigger ring gear they say and also full power in 1st gear. 2500s do not get full power in 1st gear. Also the reason the 2500 had a higher front axle rating was because it had the snow plow prep package. The 3500 did not. I would choose the LTZ all day every day. The High Country is not a very good value in my opinion. Both trucks have the exact same features and options but the high country cost $5000 more. Ridiculous.
@@Austinamp I didn’t know that. I wonder how the front to rear rake is on the 3500 SRW? My 2500 has about a 1/2” rake. It sets pretty level from the factory.
Thank you for knowing what you are talking about. You should be doing the reviews. It is refreshing to hear from someone that does their homework and states facts.
I've been a mechanic most of my career. Worked on a lot of 3/4 & 1 ton trucks. The only difference I've ever been able to discern between the two are extra leaf springs in the rear on all makes of trucks, which leads to a higher weight carrying capacity. I haven't been able to see any differences in the frame or front suspension or brakes what so ever. The 2500 may of had a snowplow prep package which raises the front axle rating higher than the 3500. Would love to see somebody interview an engineer from one of the big three truck manufacturers and have him explain the differences between the 3/4 & 1 ton trucks. Great video.
Great video! The reason for the higher fgawr on the 2500 is because it’s got the snow plow prep/camper package, which increases gawr. Guess there aren’t too many people hooking up snow plows to their fancy High Country 3500!
JB I've got a carhartt edition 2500 2021 and love it tow a 40 ft 5th toy hauler I've got 340lbs per cat scale left on payload 280lbs left on gvw and 4770lbs left on cgvw. Great videos unlike somebody else that posts videos seems to think that you got to have a f450 to tow anything over 3500lbs. If you listen to btbrv I would be pulling my toy hauler with my class 8 truck!!!
Haha! He believes in having more truck than not enough but there are some SRW out there that can tow TH so long as you stay within payload and you’re doing that 👍🏾
@@JB_WhoWork JB I guess what pisses me off the most about btbrv is he doesn't know what he is talking about but thinks he knows all about weight and distribution of weight and that everybody has to have a pos Ford f450 to tow anything bigger than a lawnmower trailer then he said that anybody with a 3/4 ton truck can only tow a tail wagging travel trailer I've tried to get him to respond to me but he won't. So to give you my background I own a trucking company I deal with weights every day follow dot and state commercial weights I will ask you the same question I asked btbrv what is the axle weights for class 8? What's total gross weight? What happens to the axle weights and gross weights when you throw in a spread axle? Not trying to be a smartass but I can't take his videos any more with btbrv giving false information and misleading people about how to figure weights. Plus the law enforcement is only worried about gross axle gross vehicle and gross combination and tire ratings so basically payload capacity doesn't amount to anything as long as you are under or at gross axle gross vehicle gross combination and your tire ratings payload is just a number!! So maybe somebody needs to explain that to the Mr know it all (or he thinks he does) btbrv or anybody else that thinks payload payload payload it's just a number gvw gcvw and axle weights tire ratings is what's important payload is just a number when in doubt use a cat scale it will give you the axle and gross weights. But I doubt if btbrv even knows what or how to use cat scales he needs to quit giving false misleading info on his channel to people if he doesn't know he needs to keep his mouth shut along with anybody else that is so worried about payload capacity it has nothing to do with loading a truck or towing its all about axle weights (truck and trailer) and gvw gcvw period.
Well, my Pinyan is because the 2500 LTG is a lore trim package, then the high country input because it’s got way more power in it can handle the extra pay load probably about maybe 22% and I really really recommend you taking that work for a drive test and find out what’s next budget I love it 99.99% of everything else in the 3500 Highcountry in between the LTZ in the high country trim package, I will go for the high country 100% because it’s very very huge on the towing package over then the 2500
I have a 2021 2500 HD Silverado with the 6.6 Duramax... got it back in January. Mine is a bit of a lower trim and has an extra seat in the front versus that console between front seats.... so I get 3300 lbs of Payload on mine. I love this truck, mine is silver. The side steps and the steps on the bumper are very handy. I'm picking up my new travel trailer on Friday (I can't wait) and it's gonna be a joy to tow it with this thing. Love the videos JB!
@@JB_WhoWork I'm not even sure if the bench seat is available in the higher trim packages. I should of mentioned, it's the Alaskan edition (special package)... so it's equipped with the snow plow package. If you look em up on google I'm sure you'll find some picks see the decal on the rear fenders. The only thing I'll likely do is put some good highway wheels on it... other than that, it checks off all of what I wanted... I can load it full of people, my dog... some cargo and hook on the RV!! You said the only thing changed in 2020 GM HD was the 10 speed Allison. Ya might want to do a little more research on that. The 3500 diesel has a 12 inch ring gear vs 11.5 inch on the 2500 diesel/gas or 3500 gas engine. This allows full torque in low gears.

Am I crazy, but 629 pounds does not seem like a lot of difference in payload from 2500-3500? The 2500 is higher than I would have thought.
They raised the GVWR on the 2500 and the 3500 is a long bed so it may have had a couple hundred pounds more if it was a standard bed.
