Personally not a fan of chevy. I think the outside looks ugly and the interior is outdated. The Ram with the Cummins will always win, but the appearance wins by a long shot. The I-6 engine set up on the Cummins just destroys all others in longevity and towing. Plus don't even get me started on how good the exhaust brake is.. Enjoyed your review.

I owned a 15 ram and an 06 Dodge at same time. One huge difference between the two was that the hood of the 06 slanted downward for much better visibility. Every generation of Ram seems to raise the front edge of the hood and decrease visibility. The Chevy seems to have an even taller hood. Why are these new trucks raising their hoods higher and higher?
They should go with the trend of big rigs and slant the hoods downward for better aerodynamics and better visibility.

Ram is falling behind IMO. They still use the old cab and frame, Fords was all new for 17,GMs for 2020,Ram still using a truck frame and cab from 2010. Time for the mega cab to go away it looks ridiculous ,can’t access it with car seats, you can’t get it with the industry standard 8foot bed,and it adds too much weight .The Ram 1500 cab should be used with a new frame .The 2500 Cummins should be available with a max payload decal (11300) like the GM truck….Ram needs a reliable 8-10 speed automatic.

I keep things well within manufacturer specs while towing. As far as the shootout, look around at what the hotshot drivers are running. While the blackout looked great, the continues chipping of the paint due to the roadways finally made me realize why bumpers where chrome all of these years. Great video. I considered the Chevy (despite the front styling - GMC is way nicer looking)…those steps on the side and bumper are the best. However, although you picked the Chev the winner for its rear suspension, that’s one reason I picked the Ram 2500. I think that if you really need the payload - and are considering the higher GVWR optioned Silverado 2500 (instead of standard 10,000 lb), just get a 3500. The price difference is so minimal between a 2500 and 3500, it really is an easy choice. For me, and others towing a travel trailer (not 5th wheel) where it’s borderline too much for a half ton, the Ram 2500 is a perfect choice. Also, I do like where Chev has put that block heater plug - so smart! And because of your videos I know where to find it on my Ram, so thank you! :-)

That low of payload is a huge negative even pulling a larger travel trailer, heck my half ton has 200lbs more payload then that Ram... if you need to step up to a 3/4 ton for pulling a travel trailer you are probably in the 900lbs-1,300lbs hitch weight range then and if you are on the high end of that you only have 500lbs payload left. A family of 4 would struggle to keep that Ran under it's payload.

All brands work better after a transmission fluid change. But the Ram having 3.73 ratio is a plus! We live out West, and have big hills. But the weak factor with GM is the double wishbone front suspension. The Ram needs a steering box brace. Which costs about $130 for the parts. But the front control arms can be beefed up with aftermarket parts, for about $600. Any brand truck without 4wd is asking for trouble.

Cummins all day everyday! Not worried about payload... Payload shmayload. They cap most 2500's at 10,000# to stay out of the commercial classification. Anything over 10,000# GVWR is "Commercial". And not all insurance companies want to take on commercial. My 19' 2500 Cummins handles my 36' fiver like a champ. And no ones gonna beat that exhaust brake on the Ram. Thing will hold back mountains! The failures that people hear about on the newer 68RFE and the 2 versons of the CP4's from 19-20 are the few squeaky wheels on the internet. If you actually pull stats on how many CP4 pump failures have happened its very very small. And Ford has been running that pump since 2011. And mechanical things break and when they do that Cummins is less complex and less expensive to fix with less parts and lower labor times than that Chevy.

A lot of misinformation in MPG, and payload and towing. Using the megacab as a comparison instead of the normal crewcab wasn't a fair comparison for payload amd comparison. .
The chevy is nice and so is the ram. The ram megacab is for comfort while sacrificing some towing and payload. The Ram interior blows away the chevy. The chevy exterior functions better with the steps and tailgate shut. Ram offers the ram box bed which is pretty cool. The ram arguably looks much nicer.

Say what you will about Chevy's styling, but I like that they're bold and unusual. Downside is that sometimes they botch it, but other times, GM kills it. Ford and Ram, on the other hand, have been overly cautious in their styling, and over time, it's gotten stale.
IMO, the '20+ Chevy HDs look really good in dark colors, AND a high trim (LTZ or better). The lower trims look pretty ugly from the front, and light--colored paint make the body lines awkward.
GM really killed it with payload (MY '20+). My '19 2500 is pathetic with 1800lbs payload, but they appear to have fixed that.
The Cummins is a great motor but it's long stroke design favors torque over horsepower, so it's always gonna be slowest in acceleration, but it kills it when under heavy/steady loads. And engine braking is super good. Give the RAM Cummins a 10-speed, and it will really rock.

I think you make all the points in favor of the Chevy that holds true across the board. I guess one of your gripes with the Ram would be a non issue to me and that’s with the standard Cummins. I just don’t think the performance difference would be even noticeable compared to the high output. You have even mentioned they feel faster just because of the transmission behavior. Maybe longevity would be a concern but other than that I’d be just fine with the standard Cummins. I think the High Output only gives you the extra power at a very narrow rpm range.

The downside with a 2500 Chevy is even though all Duramax’s have the same power, the 2500 has a smaller rear end and so they don’t get full power until 2nd gear. 3500s get full power all the time. And 2500s also always start out in 2nd gear even from a dead stop unless you are in tow/haul mode or manually select 1st gear.

It may look better on paper, but I can't get over the way it looks to my tastes. The Ram is a better looking truck to me. If Ram wants to do something then get busy with a bulletproof transmission offering. A flat floor would be a nice improvement. I am not a gadgets and gizmos guy so what Ram offers already does more than I want so I tend to option down and not up. But I know most people want toys. That's just not my preference.
