love the tutorial, love the emphasis on the flexibility of each individual within his/her own touch/skill not having to kook the same but rather a great blue print. i just wish you would have expanded on the "loopiness" as a... a different technique or use case rather than a err in practice habits/disadvantage. As seen in your fav shot maker(and deff one of the best) he uses a good amount of loop on that one, sold it with his jump as you said to do. He also has one of the nastiest "pressed" cut shots out there, but the use case and the utility of the loopier cut is there. 6:40
Loopy shots are just over the blocker. The technique isn’t as important as most of the time you are just avoiding the blocker. The goal should still be to keep it as quick as possible.
Agree with Brandon on this skill. most cuttys are trying to get inside both block and defender so low and quick to sand is high value . High line and high angle over block now that is a different and also valuable skill
Thanks so much for this tutorial, I first start trying the cut shot with my coach because he and his girlfriend were practicing it, but I want to improve it on my own. So, as I first said, thanks☺👌🏿
Would love a video on dinks and technicality of illegal tipping! (My rec group keeps arguing about slappy/cutty open hand attacks that land short) Thanks!
Great suggestion, thanks! I would LOVE if you posted this question in our public Facebook group, VolleyChat: facebook.com/groups/betteratbeach! We have real AVP and FIVB refs as members who can answer these types of questions! You can contact any ball (1st, 2nd or 3rd touch) with an open hand as long the ball does not "stick" in your hand. Basically, if the ball pops right off your open hand - you will hear the "pop" sound - it is always legal. If you take it more softly and it stays in your hand for any amount of time rather than immediately leaving your hand, that is illegal and would be considered a "throw" or "carry."
The best present for a Women's Day. Thank you for a great content :D Have to practise more, cause sometimes player read me and it's still not this way like should be! It's a great trick when I'm left-handed and player is confused - best feeling :) Greetings from Poland :D
I’m not sure what you mean here. Do you mean not making full contact and “brushing” the ball? If that’s the case it just takes practice. Continue to focus on a fast contact and see how fast you can swing while making the “brush” contact. Just make sure you are swinging up and not sideways.
Great content! Do you ever/is it a good idea to cut hard across your body -- i.e., attacking from the left, but doing a very short cut shot as you would when attacking from the right (a right-handed player)?
absolutely.. We call it a CHOP. it's not full power but it goes down fast at a sharp angle. And if you're big enough, this should be your cut shot. Try not to slow things down!
IMO you need to loop it first till you become comfortable with the location and the ball going over the net, then once that it's established you can start being more aggressive with the angle and the height the ball goes over. 6:40 clearly see he makes sure the ball clears the net for that play, insane placement, but ball doesn't cross the net if it's not high enough..
Sounds like you’re getting in front of the set and trying to be “perfect”. Try to stay behind the set and get your shot to land about 8/10 feet off the net on the sideline. Most people who miss in the net are trying to make it land about a foot from the net.
What you can do is block the side (jump in front of the anntenae) completely to guarantee a cut shot. Then as soon as the spiker will hit the ball, move your arms to the other side. (Spoilers whether u watched haikyuu or not) If you watched haikyuu you can see where tsukki blocks ushijimas spike. It completely shows what I just explained.
@@brandonjoyner6046 I've studied your video and have come to the conclusion that the straight arm before contract is what I'm missing. That's why my contact is underneath the ball and drives it upwards. I have to film myself to check. But, it sounds logical, doesn't it?

Great vid! Rly helpful
Thanks, SO glad you found it helpful!
Awesome video!
Thank you!
Thanks for that 🔥🔥
thanks for this video
Yup - Sell the hit to get defender dug in is key. If I don’t come in hard easy to leave the ball in the net or loop it too high
Love the video!!!! How do you master the best cut shot when you are in the middle of the net
👍 thank you

And if you miss the ball and you touch with 4cm of your fingers ? Is that allowed ? Do you have the FIVB rule for that please ?
I want to include again in our Singles Practice
Nice! This would be great to incorporate in a solo practice :)

Karch extended his career several years doing just this
Great advice - go straight thru the ball and then put the thumb down. I'll try this
I find that when I miss-hit the cut shot it often ends up low in the net, any way to fix this?

@@brandonjoyner6046 That's pretty much exactly where I was aiming it at! Way insightful, much appreciated
Great vid! Question: how does do you defend against the cut shot?
What you can do is block the side (jump in front of the anntenae) completely to guarantee a cut shot. Then as soon as the spiker will hit the ball, move your arms to the other side.

My cut shot is very loopy. What am I doing wrong?
Probably getting underneath your set. Stay behind the ball and then try what’s in the video.

It's stock music from Envato Elements. :)
@@betteratbeachvolleyball any chance to get the name of this music? :)
If a cut shot does not have a spin on it, is it considered to be a tip then?
How do hit a cross
Oh, the cut shot....
