7:46 The first movie said "10 years later" once Sonic arrived Earth. So, it's safe to assume that for the first 3 years, Sonic was caveless. And then for the next following years, he would live in a cave.
While I liked the show, I found Knuckles' absence from the Bowling Tournament especially disappointing mainly because THEY SET UP HIM BEING IN THE TOURNAMENT IN THE FIRST EPISODE. Knuckles shows that his power makes him really good at bowling, and Wade says Knuckles should come to Reno... And then he doesn't play bowling again in the entire show, including the tournament! If the tournament montage had Wade & Knuckles (which btw would've been a better name for the show) playing against Pistol Pete together, it could've been great.
That's a really good point! I like that Wade & Little Susie sort of implicitly make up at the end, but to have Knuckles take part in Bowling Tournament would've been a MUCH better way to show how their relationship has evolved and that they fully understand each other's personal battlegrounds.
I don't know if there's an official word on it, but I've heard the argument that Knuckles was so absent to cut costs on animating him. If true, that means this show's premise was flawed from the jump, and any future TV shows are liable to have this problem (unless they increase the budget substantially). Makes me wonder if the show would've been better for it if it wasn't live action, even if that's the whole premise of this universe. At any rate, great review, glad you address both the false advertising/expectations *and* it's quality within itself. I'd love to see more of these.
This is a real possibility! One of the things they did to not compromise the quality of animated characters was moving their rigged assets in-house, and any VFX studios working on the show would have to use the in-house models, in order for them to be consistent throughout the show, also cutting down significantly on time. All that said, I have no idea what the process is like regularly, much less if they were saving money or not by doing it like this.
Personally, I enjoyed this series, as much as people would disagree, I liked the character-development of Wade and Knuckles helping him grow as a person.
Glad we're finally able to see this. Keep at it! I feel like this format fits you very well, It just feels.. Right! Hope we see more of this in the future
What really peeves me about it is the musical episode. They made a musical to explain Knuckles's backstory, even throwing in a Sonic 06 reference... and they can't even do THAT without shoving Knuckles to the side in favour of Wade. Whether it's due to budgeting reasons or not, that episode sums up the whole show. It's Wade in a Knuckles costume. And its purpose is to build up to Knuckles learning Fire Punch at the end of the last episode, which I would put money on us not seeing in Sonic 3, or ever being mentioned again.
Someone said that animating Knuckles would be an animation issue, that makes sense but why not just make a few episodes or just make a 40 minute special to work around it? Overall it was decent minus the Knuckles screen time, but it leaves more questions on GUN, like how do they have rings, how do they know about Sonic and Knuckles’ quills being infinite energy sources, etc. Comedy wise it follows the same as the movies, clearly aimed toward the younger audience but still moments for the older audience to get a few laughs In the end, it was a decent show that was a nice fill in until the 3rd movie and its biggest sin was not having “Unknown” being played anywhere in the show.
To go with what SomeCallMeJohhny said about the show. The show would have been better if it was call The Wade and Knuckles show, that way the viewers can know that the show won't just be about Knuckles
And it would be a reference to sonic 3 and knuckles. Imagine if the opening had the title. “The wade show……” then There’s a delay before the “….and knuckles.” Part of the title Shows up.
As someone who personally and admittedly likes stories with this type of humor, I still had a fun time watching the show both as a casual watcher and as a fan. Obviously the show may succeed in one thing and not so in the other, in that case being more presence of the titular character, and that’s perfectly okay. It’s doing its own thing and you can respect it for that, and it helps being a side story set before the upcoming movie 3, so the more casual viewers could technically skip the show if they wanted to, but could very well watch it at a later point if they desire to do so. Speaking as someone who found Wade a pretty alright side character in the first two films, I very much liked him here in the show, which granted would’ve made sense given his amount of screen time. But it helped given that at the end of it all, he learned something along the way, and technically Knuckles learned something from all of this as well. Overall, I still had a good time watching Knuckles. I’d even watch it again no less. Great vid as always Charriii 👍
I don't really have a comment on the video's content itself (I'm not too invested in the entire Sonic "movieverse" aside from potentially their impacts on the perception of the game characters), but I gotta say, I REALLY appreciate the subtitles here. Them being so complete makes it so much easier to follow along and enjoy the vid.
That's so great to hear! I don't exactly have them formatted the way I'd like, presentation-wise, just because it would take so long for me to manually do that, but I figured I'd let UA-cam do its thing and get the timing right, at least.
You have no idea how happy it makes me to finally listen to a review of this show that feels actually genuine and mature, unlike a bunch of other ones from other Sonic Fans. It's so incredibly well constructed and I can't praise your work and dedication enough! Hope to see more in the future! ❤️🙏
I have to appreciate your perspective, Charrii. This movie franchise has been underwhelming, but you focus on what this is rather than what it isn't. Giving appreciation to aspects I wouldn't have ever considered like how the show handles Wade and Knuckles' relationship compared to Sonic and Tom's. I'm a huge Knuckles fan myself, so when I saw that the movie counterpart was getting his own show, you could already understand just how excited I was after his introduction in the 2nd film. But when reviews kept coming about how mediocre the show was, I was deterred away from ever watching it myself. I'm still not watching the show (of course), but thanks to you, I have a better mind to see what details I've been glossing over.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the 1974 easter egg that the ESPN guys mention at the end of episode 6 aka 50 years before this show's release. I'm totally expecting Sonic Movie 3 to have a flashback where Shadow gets sent out the ARK through a space pod then crash lands on Earth during a basketball tournament
I have to say that Wanda suuuucked as a character. I don't mean her actress, I think she played Wanda perfectly well and I'm sure that the writers purposely wrote Wanda to be that bad, but man. I had never been more annoyed from a character being on screen. Loved the video, Charriii. I fully enjoyed this.
So glad that people are having this exact perspective. Edi Patterson did an excellent job playing Wanda, but the character herself is so hard to enjoy most of the time, lol
@@Charriii5 I can’t understand adult people who don’t separate a character from an actor. Like yeah, Wanda is arguably the worst character in the show but I can only imagine Edi Patterson having a fun time playing a bratty character. Makes me happy for her, truly
I hope Shadow gets this on spin off *movie* rather than a show. Not only because Keanu Reeves is a massively big star, But also because we can't have another "Knuckles" issue.
I have two questions for this series. One:How did GUN get the rings?Did they sneak into Sonic’s house when no one was home and stole some of them and scan them to track them and took Sonic’s rings that he lost in the second film? And Two:How are they tracking Knuckles?Does Knuckles have a phone?Did they scan the quills they found and it told them where he was?
My personal headcanon was always that GUN got them from the first movie when Sonic dropped his rings on the skyscraper/tower. I know Sonic recollects them but because of the chase sequence with Robotnik, i feel like he missed some because he (sonic) was ironically in a rush since he (eggman) was a true threat. Some may have gotten left behind and thats how GUN gets their hands on just enough to get a basic compression. It was also mentioned in the second movie that immediately after San Francisco is when GUN went to see the remains
@@Kywriter475 my best guess would have to be during the aftermath of second movie, its the only explanation I can genuinely think is going the whole "quill" route. Maybe Knuckles lost some during the battle and some GUN soldiers found them near and underneath all the rubble since by that point should be closed off to the public for a safety precaution
This might be just me but half the problems would of been fixed a lot if the show title was The Knuckles and Wade show instead of just The Knuckles Show. It would give you a better grasp of what the show is, uses the canon meme we all love and honestly may of even encouraged the writers to focus more on the main focus, and best part, of the show. The only thing i see why this wasn't the name of the show was marketing it so sonic fans would want to watch it but having Knuckles in the title would do that anyway and even link it more to the movie franchise for the newer fans who saw said movies.
25:00 as a Jewish person myself this does work as usually older Jewish women always try to make things about temsleves This also is something that my grandma unfortunately does all the time so I'm speaking from experience here
Alright, crackpot theory time: I think that The Buyer was meant to be Eggman, had Jim Carrey chosen to not return for the third movie. Not only is he already obviously a roboticist, but there's the choice of words where he says he's building "an empire". They had stated they would not recast Robotnik if Carrey retired, but I imagine they could have easily passed the Eggman nickname onto this not-Robotnik character. Not to mention how close the design is; he's close to fully bald and has exaggerated facial hair, both of which could easily be adjusted to match the good doctor's game design. Rory McCann's booming, gravelly voice is also pretty in line with Deem Bristow and Mike Pollock's portrayals as well! Sorry for the huge comment, I guess the concept of Rory McCann as Eggman is just cool to me haha
Made a list of how sonic characters could interact with humans in this universe And since this universe is focued on humans as a side thing (possibly to save some money and have the mobians interact with the world at large) I wanted to share this 1. Amy could live with sonic and tails or the woman who almost got married in sonic 2 and her daughter (though amy did get an apartment in sonic x more on this later) 2. I think shadow and rouge could live together in an apartment (with rouge making money due to working for gun ) (shadow sorta not knowing what to do in general (though its possible he may like coffee like in who killed sonic and so could work with eggmans assistant)) now there are 2 options for human interaction A. They interact with characters in the nearby apartments such as the landlord B. They adopt a child that shadow or rouge finds and it sorta acts like spy family with rogue acting as loid 3. I think vanilla and cream should just live together maybe with a human kid or in that apartment complex (maybe amy lives with them) 4. Sliver and blaze end up in a old persons house (the elderly person doesn't interact much with their family or doesn't have one) silver and blaze help this elderly person (blaze is royalty and we never see her interact with basic civilians and for sliver he is just a kind person and could help the elderly person with his telekensis) 5. Big the cat is a traveler either by himself or with some country people in a caravan and just shows up from time to time. 6. Chaotics works with the police or are a detective agency that deals with human and mobian crimes
For me, I imagine Shadow wanting to keep an eye on G.U.N. So, in my mind, I think he would want to live with an G.U.N. agent more tied to his fellow aliens. That way if they're any threats, he's able to inform them more easily.
@@shadowlycan2929 that's a great idea I think I definitely went overboard on multiple mobians living together But this would also allow shadow to interact and do more stuff in general
Even though I personally did actually enjoy this show, I think a lot of people would agree that this would’ve been MUCH better if it was a prequel show that takes place before/between the events of the movies where we actually see knuckles’ backstory and his journey to get to sonic/the master emerald. We would’ve learned more about this version of the echidna tribe and some of the challenges knuckles faced on his journey as shown like that fight with iblis in episode 4. And if it would’ve been too expensive for a live action cgi hybrid show, they could do what they’re currently doing for tmnt and make the shows fully animated while the movies are live action. They even already showed some fully animated segments in sonic 2 when they were showing the backstory for the master emerald. A full show in that style would be so fucking cool.
In my opinion the Knuckles show was decent, i can see where they were going with Wade’s character grow of becoming more confident and i like that. I’m disappointed for the false marketing that they did to make us believe that we’re gonna see more of Knuckles’s Backstory but in the end it was not. They should’ve been honest about it that the show was going to focus on Wade and Knuckles is there to support his journey. If the marketing would have focused on that, i would have been fine with it
The Show was alright. It honestly does a lot of things I haven't seen many shows do, and the Actors carry it very well... But it often JUST falls short from really succeeding completely. I really liked Wade and Knuckles as a Duo, but Wade DOES take up way too much time... The villains were really interesting, seeing how Sonic and Eggman impacted the World, though the Buyer is really underwhelming... He doesn't even have a Name! Wade's Mom is actually surprisingly interesting, and I kinda wish they properly gave her conversations with Knuckles more depth, but what was there was cool. Wanda REALLY drains all fun out of each Scene she's in, her gimmick gets old so quick, and she never grows out of it. I really like how Wade dealt with finding his Dad and his split Family... Deciding that, even if his Mother doesn't want anything to do with his Father, doesn't mean he has to feel the same. Which is immediately undermined by a completely predictable and frustrating betrayal!
I actually really agree with you on the references! It does a good job referencing things without having the reference draw the entire Attention of the scene on it. Like you said, it trusts the Audience to understand the Reference without needing to explain it.
The idea that G.U.N. studied the Black Arms would make sense, given one, it would make a nice reference to Shadow 05, and it also enable them to demonstrate how important Gerald is. Think about it, Shadow still looks like what he should look like. Plus perhaps, all this started with Gerald going," So, I found this evil alien species who want to eat us all. Keep an eye on that". Again, we have a way to explain why Shadow looks the way he does. Black Doom told him about the Mobians, perhaps illustrating that most aren't advanced enough to be a threat, hence why Gerald never brought it up, only the Black Arms as they were the threat.
While I agree it has its glaring problems (Knuckles not being in a lot of scenes as the show advertised and etc.), I…..still had a fun time watching it from start to finish oddly enough.
I would've liked the show even more if they focused on Wade trying on being a better deputy in Tom's absence to make sure Green Hills is safe under his watch. I wouldn't have mind the show being a cliche of movies regarding of the teacher and student. If the narrative was anything like The Karate Kid/Cobra Kai, for example, it could've been so much better than what we got. Even for what the show is as a whole, it has its moments, but I wasn't a fan overall.
Also, one reason for the hype over the hat may be thanks to how it was featured in the Archie comics, where it was a treasured Knuckles-family heirloom. =) (but personally, I'd just like to know WHY they gave Knuckles that hat in the OVA anyway! XD)
Like how it's a "horrible disgrace" that needs to be burned to ashes and how it "destroyed" Knuckles' reputation in the Sonic movie universe and how everyone who even finds some enjoyment in it needs to have all of his opinions bashed (even ones that have nothing to do with this mini-series) and to be banned from Twitter or Reddit for life Yes I already know about that (I also didn't watch Knuckles because I also don't own Paramount+)
@@BR-jw7pm I don't hate this show at all and just like you I think Knuckles having a TV show is great considering that aside from Knuckles comic books from the 90s and Knuckles' Chaotix we haven't really gotten something Knuckles themed The last thing I wanna be is an angry fan who constantly complains about media nonstop because I don't want to be disrespectful or mean and also there are plenty of people doing things like these already and I don't want to hit rock bottom with them by the way I'm sure you're not like those angry fans either so have a good time
You forgot to mention the one potential tease for Sonic 3 we got in the entire show; after Knuckles defeats the Buyer, one of the ESPN guys mentions that this isn't actually the first time something like this happened since an extraterrestrial actually crashed the 1974 Bowling Championship. The year being exactly 50 years before the show's release was certainly no coincidence; maybe that's where Shadow's pod landed after being ejected from the ARK?
Okay, could it have had more Knuckles moments? Absolutely. But it is in no way a BAD show. People need to see real bad shit if they hated this. Sonic movie 1 could have had more sonic shit, but people still liked that movie, yet when literally the same thing happens here with an even more entertaining human character, it's suddenly the worst fucking thing on the planet.
Thank you so much for your detailed rational review. I agree with you on so many points. This show was a creative experiment. They did notice some valid details about how awkward this franchise can be. But yeah.... Even when all the pieces were there... The story didn't quite manage to connect them in a convincing way. I still find myself wondering about so many random things, too. Like if Wades Mom and Sister are both also law enforcement... Then couldn't they have arrested Wade for pulling up to their home in the stolen truck? All they had to do was notice... And since they all just drove off to Reno the next day... Leaving their house with a gaping hole in the wall... And the stolen truck still parked there... Then is the whole place going to be marked as a crime scene when they return to it? What could that do to the message of teaching Knuckles to feel at home? And also... Just how many vehicles do Tom and Maddie have? Because Tails wrecked the police car in the second film. And Knuckles has now converted one vehicle into his throne. But Maddie still left for work after that. So...did she call a taxi? Or get an awkward lift from the fleeing construction workers? And are they seriously telling me that Knuckles defeated an immortal fire monster with a fire attack that the monster gave him? ....so Iblis wanted to die? Or what? ..uhm. Sorry. I know we're not likely to get such answers. And I respect that the series creators must have had reasons and deadlines. That shaped their choices. Thanks for letting me ramble, though.
I am not kidding when i say I've watched this show like 4 times already. I don't think it's good, in fact I think it's completely garbage, but it's that special kind of garbage media that's just so beautiful to look at, like every single element is so perfectly bad in a way that baffles and amazes me and I can't stop watching it Genuinely I haven't been able to stop thinking about "my dad abandoned me in a TJ Maxx" since i first heard it, that and so many other lines in this show are written so awfully and i cannot stop repeating them i am obsessed
A personal head cannon I have is that pachacamac, based on him embezzling details of knuckles backstory specifically his dads death being against a 100 to 1 fight with the owls when what it actually was the opposite of that, is just trying to get knuckles away from the Wachowskis and specifically sonic, the basically apprentice of long claw. Basically pachacamac shouldn’t be trusted.
i feel like paramount should experiment with making an animated Sonic franchise themselves someday, the live action stuff definitely is obviously the Alvin movies of the Sonic franchise and that's pretty fine.
Incredible, somehow you named every single thought about Knuckles and found even more to add to the discussion table! My only gripe with the series that wasn’t discussed was that I saw an article discussing how the weapon designs for the Buyer’s armory were apparently “AI generated” then the designs were made into props. It feels kind of sleepy knowing that, however I only read the article’s title so take a grain of salt to that description.
I've said it in a discord but here's my simple thoughts I went in, expecting an action comedy starring knuckles and wade I basically got that, but a bit exaggerated in certain areas
what you said at the end reminds me of knuckles chaotix its advertised as knuckles game but he's just there to sell copies, the game on its own is fine but as a game about knuckles it fails
42:52 Wanna know something even *weirder?* Wade's mom and dad have a massive age gap. The actress Stockhard Channing is 80 years old! She's 2 decades older than her husband! What on Earth?!😂
Charriii, I have to say, you are a very analytical and observant guy. Every aspect you highlighted or critiqued about the "Knuckles" show was very well-balanced and pretty entertaining to watch and think about. While I'm personally disappointed by how the show bait-and-switched it's premise, I can't say I didn't have a somewhat fun time with this show. Ah well, hope future spin-off shows in this movie universe don't repeat the same formula again.
1:14:07-1:15:43, at the time I’m commenting this, they just finished premiering the show and aired all the episodes on Nickelodeon for a week, granted the 1st 2 was on Monday and over the week, we get the next one airing a day after, and even on the TV Channel themselves, they used the same episode descriptions and didn’t try to properly correct them on what exactly is going on.
Great stuff, Chariii5. Having watched the series in full as it aired on TV a couple weeks ago, I can confidently say that I enjoyed Knuckles. I'm that kind of dude who enjoys some silly comedy, so I wasn't offended by the general vibe of the show. It could have used more of Knuckles himself, but that's the extent of any real critique I have. Your statements at the end can apply to a lot of recent media. I feel like a reason behind much of the aggression on games, movies, or cartoons are because folks fixate on what _isn't_ there. Granted, it's okay to be upset -- I certainly felt that way a few times -- but something I strive to do is focus on what is there in something I choose to engage in. It helps stave off a feeling of intense anger and keeps my sanity in check. Of course, I can't speak for everyone on the Internet, so... Either way, this is a nice, detailed look at Knuckles. Great video, Chariii5.
I haven’t watched this series, only heard mixed to negative things. Not out of disinterest from bad word of mouth, just… time management. But it’s nice to hear positive and negative aspects of the show discussed. I always support looking at the pros and cons of any work, since even the worst stuff can have good stuff and great works of fiction can have issues. So it’s nice to see a nuanced take on the series.
I enjoy the Knuckles Show. Yes, it feels more like Wade’s show but I still love it. I just saw it as a side story with a somewhat serious but goofy roadtrip plot. I went into it just wanting a good time knowing that most of the stuff probably won’t be important or brought into the third movie(expect maybe the flames of disaster). Also Wade’s mom. My favorite character in the show beside Knuckles, I absolutely love her.
When hearing “wade helped knuckles out of his cage in that one episode but knuckles didn’t help wade out” I instantly thought that knuckles should of done a suicide squad 2 situations originally Like imagine wade making this “amazing” plan, and when he shows up to the building knuckles is being held, knuckles just suddenly walks out “I had, like a really cool plan to help you escape” “Really?… I could go back inside if you’d like, and you can do it…”
I will admit, while it's not the show I expected to get, I'm still glad we got this! It has it's moments for sure where it's all sweet like the Shabbat dinner and what not, episode 4 was a wild one after that though since I did not expect it to be so Wade focused and have a Muppet look Iblis thing- which is still crazy how that's a canon thing in the Sonic Movie-verse, like just the fact that existed at some point during Knuckles journey for the flames of disaster. It might've been more of a Wade series, but I still liked it regardless. It definitely had it's rough moments and such, but I can live with them. Villains were pretty decent in the end of the day, the bond Knuckles and Wade have was pretty good too! And while the ESPN guys weren't all that funny at the end, what was the most interesting thing they said "There was a visit by an extraterrestrial in the 1974 tourney, but I don't think he was red." Definitely hinting at the fact Shadow was around and.. possibly also at a bowling tourney too?? I kinda wanna have that more elaborated lol. But yeah! Pretty great Series for what it is, it's not perfect, but I still like it! Thanks for giving your input on this Charriii! Stay safe and stay awesome!
I seen it and honestly? It could be better. Problem for me apart from major lack of Knuckles, was how the story and development of him was lacking considering we were expecting to see how he would grow to love the planet he's on. Now, do I think it's the worst thing ever? Absolutely not. Nonetheless, it was a fun ride to go through and experience. Here's hoping for future tv shows, they learned what worked and what didn't for sonic characters.
I haven't watched this show, so I watched through the intro, part of Episode 1 and part of the conclusion. This seems ridiculous, and I think thats pretty cool. A big concern when the first movie was being advertised with the horrific "realistic" Sonic was that the movie(s) would suck out all the fun and whimsy inherent in the concept of vibrantly colored animals running around and dealing with armies of robots, the power to control time & space, and just... so many over the top moments. Of course the movie let Robotnik be crazy; allowed Sonic to be a bit silly, and it was better for it... So; its cool that the TV show *seems* to have continued to embrace the weirdness. Also I have no opinions on the character of Pachacamac, but I absolutely love him trying to ghost-phase through the skylight, failing, and just smacking & rubbing against it.
By now, we all the REAL reason this show was even made; the Writers Guild strike ended up pushing the production and release of the third movie to much later in the year than they initially planned, so they needed to keep brand awareness up somehow. Also, if you haven't research anything about the Ken Penders scandal, you should, because that shitshow affected WAY more than just the Archie-Sonic-fanbase. I had two friends who worked for Archie at the time, and they got fired because of that dickhead. >=( Still though, nicely done review! =)
The moment they mentioned Wade as the secondary character and that the plot of the show was Knuckles training Wade, I knew the show wasn't going to delve into Knuckles' back story very much. So my expectations were low when started watching it. While I did like the show, I can see why others didn't.
So is Knuckles basically the Thomas and the Magic Railroad of the Sonic movieverse because of the stuff that concerns more on the humans than the franchise character?
I did enjoy this series but this felt more like a Wade focused show and it is disappointing. I'm all for character development and I guess Knuckles did get that in the second movie but they could've expanded that with the whole premise of "find an apprentice to continue the echidna legacy". I get that Wade is supposed to be a goober but it feels a little too over the top for me personally, it was funny in the movies because it was a couple short gags. In the show it just felt like one long running joke that just didn't land. I genuinely loved the agents and the buyer, who for some reason I'm GENUINELY convinced is Snivley. There is no true reason just speculation on the account that he's one of the only other prominent human characters that has worked alongside eggman and also has quite the nack at robotics. The buyer seemed like such a cool villain with how serious he was and the slight antics of the agents helped balanced it out (major orbot and cubot vibes or just any duo robots kn the Sonic series) Edit: Going back to Knuckles and his clan, I can understand to an extent why they made Pachacamac his father instead of his ancestors like in the games but I feel like it was more for a reference than an actual plot. But who knows? Maybe it was another funny jab at Penders since he owns damn near Knuckles' entire family tree and any new echidna would set him off
24:45 Psychopath (We're on the same wavelength). I know this is a comedy, but other properties have taken this extreme more seriously, particularly *Data Expunged* or [ [ Number 1 rated salesman 1997 ] ] 53:49 Honestly, I have not a lot of ways to understand my Spanish-speaking cultures and I love that you're being this much of a geek to inform me. If I could say thanks in a more genuine and heartfelt way than just saying thanks, I would, but I can't so I'll say thank you Charriii5. I mean, I still do not like stuff like Telemundo one bit, but I can see how much of a cultural hold it had over Spanish Speaking communities and I can kind of respect it for what it did for those people who grew up with it, but I believe I can make better. Maybe they should've taken a page out of Team Fortress 2's book and listened to Sniper's speech about professionals and standards. "Be Polite, Be Efficient, and Have A Plan To Kill Everyone You Meet" because in my opinion, The Art Of War by Sun Tzu boils down the "Efficiency and Victory without being sloppy or making too many mistakes that you don't know what to do with or how to at the very least make them seem hilarious" mantra that I wish more people in life could have. My family has a saying, "Do what you need to do before you do what you want to do" and honestly, if other people in life were to take this saying a little more seriously, a lot more jobs could be done a lot more efficiently. Now, do I hate sloppily made work that is so hilariously bad they wind up being good, NO, absolutely not, I have my share of guilty pleasures, but how many times do people have to create guilty pleasures before the pleasure part of them finds itself stale just enough to make the guilty part a lot more pronounced? In my opinion, a job well done is usually better than a job not well done, and when you go out to make something, especially a story, you kind of need to keep in mind the basics and how they make up the larger whole instead of going too far deep into a story that you don't feel like getting out of the hole you've dug yourself in. Always strive for what is best for a piece of work instead of an unobtainable perfection or a half-assed job or something that your property isn't or something that is downright hateful and spiteful especially to another person's piece of media that you've been entrusted with. I don't know where Knuckles fits into all of this except that maybe when you realize you cannot use the main character the show is advertised with, instead of trying to roll something out, you ought to just stand your ground and demand better conditions or make the best of a bad situation and use what you've got wisely. So basically, I think they probably should've cut out a lot of stuff, maybe filmed/written it down somewhere where it could be used later after conditions became more favorable, and instead focused on what they could with "the main character advertised character who's name is on the show & Wade." Okay, now I'm just convinced that the budget with Knuckles' CGI was the biggest issue with this show, along with the fact that this crew had no idea how to handle a bad situation so they instead decided to fling crap at a wall and looked at whatever stuck and said: "Should work enough, hey (Wade's Actor) are you sure you're up for this comedic bit?" Which then Wade's actor is the most ecstatic guy in the entire world to be involved in such nonsensical stuff if not a bit confused as to why he's being given such a large role since this is supposed to be Knuckles' show, but you know. He among everyone else in the studio are professionals, various different puppets/moving cogs in a machine made to move around according to the whims and circumstances beyond their control. I still stand by what I said previously though, these people were dealt a bad hand and they had no idea how to make it into a winning hand so they just chucked whatever they wanted and hoped it all worked out perfectly. Most of it did, I see what you personally liked as stuff that could be enjoyable, but again, I agree that the other stuff does not make sense when you put it up to scrutiny.
I feel like a Season 2 could be a good way to give most Sonic fans the Knuckles show they wanted. My basic ideas for it are either: A. The Buyer survived the giant ball being thrown on him and goes on to create Mecha Sonic, who is sent to capture Sonic and Knuckles to use them both as living batteries for all The Buyer’s machines and weapons. Mecha Sonic flies into Green Hills, defeats Sonic and Tails and captures them both. Knuckles now must track down where Mecha Sonic went and save both Sonic and Tails. Maybe you can have the Chaotix here as Side Characters. or alternatively, B. Knuckles is attacked one night by Chaos, who has emerged to finally end the remaining echidna of the Echidna tribe after having wiped most of them out after the death of Longclaw. Knuckles is forced to go on the run to escape Chaos. The echidna must go to the original island his tribe once called home to spiritually connect with his dead ancestors to find out what Chaos really is, why the creature even wiped out the Echidna tribe to begin with, and how to beat it. I feel like both of these can give Sonic fans what they want. Option A sort of adapts Knuckles’ Chaotix, using Mecha Sonic instead so Metal can have a movie as the main antagonist, and Option B presents a completely Knuckles-centered story that can adapt the story of Chaos without being an entire movie.
Late as fuck but super excited to watch this video; will probably update this comment in an hour an'some(ansem?! WHERE?!?!?) with my thoughts after it :3 Edit: ... I don't actually have any notes; I kinda just... agree. Like, almost wholeheartedly, save for how I would phrase some things here and there, but, that could likely just be attributed to "I'm not that good with words; you're probably more right" and so... that was just generally a good video. ... Save the fact that the subtitles are 100% copied in from the script- or maybe even a draft of the script- because sometimes they just straight up don't line up. Nothing major, but when half a thought is different, you might wanna do some manual editing post-posting. All-in-all, hella good video, Charriii, sick as fuck, and I'd honestly watch more reviews like this, if you ever did more. I'll stay safe and stay awesome- y'know, so long as you do, lmao ;3
I will acknowledge that is a good show but if I wanted to watch a bowling 90s comedy movie I would have gotten it like you said. I came for Knuckles and it’s good that someone people understand why some fans are more upset about it. Yes having the main population like it makes rantings high, but one of the reviews I saw, is this how we want to introduce people into the Sonic universe? Don’t you want others to understand why we love these characters we have grown up with? Because they aren’t going to remember the “Knuckles Show” for Knuckles they will remember it for Wade.
I think there was someone here on YT that said it best. They are BOTH Knuckles. I really liked how this show had a really good theme about tradition as well. Wade and Knuckles are so cool and this show gave the two of them some much needed development.
HOW DID I MISS THIS VIDEO!!!??? UA-cam I swear what is WRONG with you I usually have your vids show up in my recommended VERY soon after they come out and I only knew this vid existed because of the mention of it in the outro of the Gens 3DS vid and OH MY GOD I am so happy it was mentioned because I am SO excited to hear what u think of this show YAY. 10:10 I'm pretty sure it's said somewhere that they have them because of Sonic dropping them in Movie 2 actually!! There was an interview (I would link it if I remembered where) that mentioned that GUN retrieved the rings and quills from both Sonic and Knuckles in order to power their own machines and fight them!! 37:20 It's interesting to see the different interpretations of the "flames of disaster" since most I've heard about actually say that Knuckles is more like Elise rather than Silver with the Flames sealed inside him. I think your interpretation of Knuckles having Silver's backstory is more likely - but i'm bias, I really want Silver in SCU even if it's incredibly unlikely hahaha so I hope that maybe he's like Elise and maybe Silver exists in this universe at some point somehow. Anyway - amazing video / review !! I'm really glad you liked the show and were super understanding and down to earth about the good and the bad that the show brought! I think from what I've seen of the show so far I did like it! I was going in expecting a lot of Wade and not being too upset about it because I don't dislike Wade, though admittedly I don't think I'll re-watch this show..at least not anytime soon. I didn't hate it by any means though and your critiques were super valid and fair! Stay safe and stay awesome! :)
I was told by someone saying that the director of the Sonic Movies only work on Episode 1 while the rest of the episodes was done by someone else, not sure if that’s true.
I really enjoyed this series, while yes it’s clear there was a tight budget for cgi and then the problem on focus on wades bowling and family drama. (Plus each episode was directed by different people, don’t know if thats another reason why) But I thought it was still fun time, love Knuckles and Wades interactions and bond, I also enjoyed the characters and battle scenes. Don’t think this series is anywhere considered “the worst” I do hope tho they are still listening about the criticisms and how we want to see more of well the sonic stuff. While it would have been nice for be a higher budget so that we can have more of an adventure and see other characters like mighty and the Chaotixs and getting more lore about the universe. Hopefully that can be done for future seasons and other series. But for what it is, I had a good time. ❤
At first, before i even knew about the Knuckles show, i thought that the movies were gonna pair wade an tails, but i like Wade and Knuckles as a duo a lot.
But see that's the thing it's the wade show and not the knuckles show. Knux is thier but he's mainly just thier for the ride. In a sad way I'm happy I didn't finish this series. If this is the future of SCU then count me out.
It's so true, though lol From what I remember she was asleep through most of it, while I was typing out my thoughts. She would check in every so often and stare at Knuckles!
the worst thing about the pointing out the similaritys between jews and the echinds saying they where the same is it reminds me of archie and a certain part of that universe preboot invoving echidnas
18:20 they are actually commandeering the vehicle since one of them is a cop and I cannot decide if this is a Nat 20 Strength check or Intimidation check (DnD terms)
Even if the show wasn’t what I thought it would be, I still personally enjoyed the knuckles series. Sure it may have focused a lot more on Wade than knuckles but I think it was wholesome to see the friendship between Wade and knuckles develop. And it did got me emotional when knuckles finally accepted earth as his home and be with those who now see him as family like Wade, Sonic, tails, Maddie, Tom and many more. Hopefully if they ever make a tails mini series, I do hope the show writers can learn from the flaws of the knuckles series and do a better job for a tails series if he possibly gets his own mini series. And about the fact that many people hated that Wade was more focused, I do get where they’re coming from, but come on… at least Wade is a far better human character than freaking Chris from the Sonic X anime 😂 But yea, your opinions on the knuckles series were pretty interesting to hear. Yea the knuckles series does have its flaws and I do wish it could’ve been better, but it was still a fun series. Not a masterpiece, but still a decently fun show 😊

7:46 The first movie said "10 years later" once Sonic arrived Earth. So, it's safe to assume that for the first 3 years, Sonic was caveless. And then for the next following years, he would live in a cave.
I guess that makes since, but why wouldn’t they said that? * puts another sin on the board*
As someone who really enjoyed this show, I can acknowledge it isn't a Knuckles show, but when he is there, he's perfect.
The editing on these videos have gotten so good I cant lie
They can also increase the budget by not having every dad song known to man play all of the time😅😅😅
@@PHX357 or they could've had sonic music
The cost of animating him and also just the cost of idris elba
@@gunfighter009 but also... Why use so much Marketplace? Like seriously, only in second episode of this show there was enough of it (too much).
Personally, I enjoyed this series, as much as people would disagree, I liked the character-development of Wade and Knuckles helping him grow as a person.
The only problem with it is that its a bit misleading.
@@therealsupyallyeah, seems like false advertising on that front.
@@alvaroperez2349yea but people exaggerate it too much there was a lot of knuckles in his own show it wasn’t all wade
Except I wanted to watch Knuckles not Wade. He had more development than Knuckles. And the final battle was kinda anti climatic
people seem allergic to human characters when they aren't in the title for some reason
Hear me out: What if Wade becomes Sonicman? It comes full circle.
That'd be funny. In the Movie Universe he became Knuckles-Man.
😮
Glad we're finally able to see this. Keep at it! I feel like this format fits you very well, It just feels.. Right!
Hope we see more of this in the future
10:17 Wait! If that's the case, then if G.U.N. is monitoring San Fransisco, then that means it would be called San Fransisco Zone! THE MEME IS ALIVE!!
So where’s the money
Shit
Someone said that animating Knuckles would be an animation issue, that makes sense but why not just make a few episodes or just make a 40 minute special to work around it?
Overall it was decent minus the Knuckles screen time, but it leaves more questions on GUN, like how do they have rings, how do they know about Sonic and Knuckles’ quills being infinite energy sources, etc.
Comedy wise it follows the same as the movies, clearly aimed toward the younger audience but still moments for the older audience to get a few laughs
In the end, it was a decent show that was a nice fill in until the 3rd movie and its biggest sin was not having “Unknown” being played anywhere in the show.
Unknown from M.E. ?
I would say the Rings would have to be because of Gerald Robotnik. Most likely finding them in Ruins related to the Master Emerald.
My thought was perhaps Sonic missed a ring when he dropped them in the first movie
This was definitely a show with knuckles and Wade
41:02 This was my favorite Joke in the whole Sonic Cinermatic Franchise. His smile of just glee.
True. Though I mostly have to agree with Sam Procrastinates.
he is functioning without his coffee (we were lied to)
Lied to?
25:19 For me it was the TMNT pillow and blanket. Sonic and TMNT have been referenced a couple of times in both of their comics in the 90s
Wanda successfully managed to be even *worse* than Rachel. What is it with sister characters in this universe being so obnoxious.
1:16:10 I'd lowkey love to see a fun promo with Sonic joining the Average Joes and Shadow joining the Purple Cobras
I hope Shadow gets this on spin off *movie* rather than a show. Not only because Keanu Reeves is a massively big star, But also because we can't have another "Knuckles" issue.
Hardcore agree
Charrriii5: Was KNUCKLES Any Good?
Boom Knuckles: No!
No.
13:55 Today I learned Charriii5 has watched approximately 0 modern anime
I have two questions for this series.
One:How did GUN get the rings?Did they sneak into Sonic’s house when no one was home and stole some of them and scan them to track them and took Sonic’s rings that he lost in the second film?
And Two:How are they tracking Knuckles?Does Knuckles have a phone?Did they scan the quills they found and it told them where he was?
They might have gotten the rings from when sonic almost fell in the snow area in sonic 2
I have no idea
I think GUN is okay with Sonic and friends after they defeated robotnik in the 2nd movie, but they still track them secretly.
@@eviljayrose3512 That makes sense, but I wonder how they tracked Knuckles in the first episode of this series.
The only thing i see why this wasn't the name of the show was marketing it so sonic fans would want to watch it but having Knuckles in the title would do that anyway and even link it more to the movie franchise for the newer fans who saw said movies.
name it "Wade (& knuckles)"
The moment Chariii said that Knuckles should be listening to hip-hop, I envisioned him with some headphones and All Eyez On Me
25:00
as a Jewish person myself this does work as usually older Jewish women always try to make things about temsleves This also is something that my grandma unfortunately does all the time so I'm speaking from experience here
Seeing Knuckles' hat from the OVA even for just a moment in this show really makes me wish we would see it more often.
Missed opportunity to call the show Wade and Knuckles.
You put it beautifully at the end. It is important for us to realize why we feel the way we do.
Alright, crackpot theory time:
I think that The Buyer was meant to be Eggman, had Jim Carrey chosen to not return for the third movie.
Made a list of how sonic characters could interact with humans in this universe
And since this universe is focued on humans as a side thing (possibly to save some money and have the mobians interact with the world at large) I wanted to share this
1. Amy could live with sonic and tails or the woman who almost got married in sonic 2 and her daughter (though amy did get an apartment in sonic x more on this later)
2. I think shadow and rouge could live together in an apartment (with rouge making money due to working for gun ) (shadow sorta not knowing what to do in general (though its possible he may like coffee like in who killed sonic and so could work with eggmans assistant)) now there are 2 options for human interaction
A. They interact with characters in the nearby apartments such as the landlord
B. They adopt a child that shadow or rouge finds and it sorta acts like spy family with rogue acting as loid
3. I think vanilla and cream should just live together maybe with a human kid or in that apartment complex (maybe amy lives with them)
4. Sliver and blaze end up in a old persons house (the elderly person doesn't interact much with their family or doesn't have one) silver and blaze help this elderly person (blaze is royalty and we never see her interact with basic civilians and for sliver he is just a kind person and could help the elderly person with his telekensis)
5. Big the cat is a traveler either by himself or with some country people in a caravan and just shows up from time to time.
6. Chaotics works with the police or are a detective agency that deals with human and mobian crimes
Wow... I kinda like this.
For me, I imagine Shadow wanting to keep an eye on G.U.N. So, in my mind, I think he would want to live with an G.U.N. agent more tied to his fellow aliens. That way if they're any threats, he's able to inform them more easily.
@@shadowlycan2929 that's a great idea I think I definitely went overboard on multiple mobians living together
But this would also allow shadow to interact and do more stuff in general
34:13 Ngl considering Ken was *malding* over Knuckles having a dad in his backstory in Sonic 2, this possible jab is instantly x10 better
This video fully encapsulates my feelings on the matter, and I'm glad I have something to reference for any potential future discussions.
XD)
It’s just great that Knuckles got a show at all! Haven’t seen it myself (don’t own Paramount) but have heard… less than stellar things about it…
Like how it's a "horrible disgrace" that needs to be burned to ashes and how it "destroyed" Knuckles' reputation in the Sonic movie universe and how everyone who even finds some enjoyment in it needs to have all of his opinions bashed (even ones that have nothing to do with this mini-series) and to be banned from Twitter or Reddit for life
Yes I already know about that (I also didn't watch Knuckles because I also don't own Paramount+)

I get some people disliked this series, but me personally, I loved what we got despite the somewhat… Big inclusion of Wade.
My assumption with the Airpop was that he gave it to Knuckle on the way to the elevator, not before.
I don't think it's good, in fact I think it's completely garbage, but it's that special kind of garbage media that's just so beautiful to look at, like every single element is so perfectly bad in a way that baffles and amazes me and I can't stop watching it
Genuinely I haven't been able to stop thinking about "my dad abandoned me in a TJ Maxx" since i first heard it, that and so many other lines in this show are written so awfully and i cannot stop repeating them i am obsessed
"I wish MY dad had left ME at a TJ Maxx."
@pokegirl0238 I like that theory!! I sure hope that's the case.
i feel like paramount should experiment with making an animated Sonic franchise themselves someday, the live action stuff definitely is obviously the Alvin movies of the Sonic franchise and that's pretty fine.
At first I thought this vid was about the character rather than the show
Ristar couldn't relate more considering his name is also the name of his game
Incredible, somehow you named every single thought about Knuckles and found even more to add to the discussion table!
My only gripe with the series that wasn’t discussed was that I saw an article discussing how the weapon designs for the Buyer’s armory were apparently “AI generated” then the designs were made into props. It feels kind of sleepy knowing that, however I only read the article’s title so take a grain of salt to that description.
I've said it in a discord but here's my simple thoughts
I went in, expecting an action comedy starring knuckles and wade
I basically got that, but a bit exaggerated in certain areas
what you said at the end reminds me of knuckles chaotix its advertised as knuckles game but he's just there to sell copies, the game on its own is fine but as a game about knuckles it fails

Wanna know something even *weirder?* Wade's mom and dad have a massive age gap.
Also, thank you for acknowledging my tweet regarding this review on Twitter X. That was genuinely surprised me.
When hearing “wade helped knuckles out of his cage in that one episode but knuckles didn’t help wade out”
I instantly thought that knuckles should of done a suicide squad 2 situations originally
Like imagine wade making this “amazing” plan, and when he shows up to the building knuckles is being held, knuckles just suddenly walks out
“I had, like a really cool plan to help you escape”
“Really?… I could go back inside if you’d like, and you can do it…”
Nice! Been waiting for this video ever since the community post announcing it.
This was probably the most wholesome review of the Knuckles Show I've ever watched and listened to.
Very late to this video, but just want to say Charrii, if you're reading this, as a Latino, I am so happy that you acknowledged the Loquendo scene.
28:19 You can't escape it, the jokes just write themself ("The family & Knuckles").
Charri is the 🐐
The moment they mentioned Wade as the secondary character and that the plot of the show was Knuckles training Wade, I knew the show wasn't going to delve into Knuckles' back story very much.
The buyer seemed like such a cool villain with how serious he was and the slight antics of the agents helped balanced it out (major orbot and cubot vibes or just any duo robots kn the Sonic series)
Edit: Going back to Knuckles and his clan, I can understand to an extent why they made Pachacamac his father instead of his ancestors like in the games but I feel like it was more for a reference than an actual plot. But who knows? Maybe it was another funny jab at Penders since he owns damn near Knuckles' entire family tree and any new echidna would set him off
24:45 Psychopath (We're on the same wavelength). I know this is a comedy, but other properties have taken this extreme more seriously, particularly *Data Expunged* or [ [ Number 1 rated salesman 1997 ] ]
53:49 Honestly, I have not a lot of ways to understand my Spanish-speaking cultures and I love that you're being this much of a geek to inform me.
So basically, I think they probably should've cut out a lot of stuff, maybe filmed/written it down somewhere where it could be used later after conditions became more favorable, and instead focused on what they could with "the main character advertised character who's name is on the show & Wade."
Okay, now I'm just convinced that the budget with Knuckles' CGI was the biggest issue with this show, along with the fact that this crew had no idea how to handle a bad situation so they instead decided to fling crap at a wall and looked at whatever stuck and said: "Should work enough, hey (Wade's Actor) are you sure you're up for this comedic bit?" Which then Wade's actor is the most ecstatic guy in the entire world to be involved in such nonsensical stuff if not a bit confused as to why he's being given such a large role since this is supposed to be Knuckles' show, but you know.
They missed a chance to call the series:
The Wade Whipple Show
& Knuckles
I feel like a Season 2 could be a good way to give most Sonic fans the Knuckles show they wanted. My basic ideas for it are either:
A. Maybe you can have the Chaotix here as Side Characters.
or alternatively,
Or we get Rouge
She can be easily inserted into Option 2 as the secondary main character.
@@Radfarious Perhaps
Rock zone was a thing. It was in sonic 2, but got scrapped And
It wasn't called rock zone. It was called rock world
Late as fuck but super excited to watch this video; will probably update this comment in an hour an'some(ansem?! WHERE?!?!?) with my thoughts after it :3
Edit: ...
31:41 He went to the same school that thought Sonic & Silver how to Chaos Control
When you put sound clips on the Episode cards, it just reminds me of how Schaffrillas does it.😅
I really enjoyed this series, while yes it’s clear there was a tight budget for cgi and then the problem on focus on wades bowling and family drama.
I looked it up, and apparently there was going to be a Rock Zone in Sonic 2 (alternate name was Rock World Zone) but it was scrapped
I love the Wade Whipple Show!
But see that's the thing it's the wade show and not the knuckles show. Knux is thier but he's mainly just thier for the ride. In a sad way I'm happy I didn't finish this series. If this is the future of SCU then count me out.
"the hat that people go nuts over for some reason" THE HATS COOL OKAY QWQ
The implications of Iblis being separate for a long time are interesting. Like where’s Mephilis? When did Project Solaris happen?
26:35 I'm just gonna pull a knuckles move and believe him 😂
But what was babbiii5s opinion?🧐 we all know she’s the real brains behind the operation around these parts😂
18:20
they are actually commandeering the vehicle since one of them is a cop
and I cannot decide if this is a Nat 20 Strength check or Intimidation check (DnD terms)
And about the fact that many people hated that Wade was more focused, I do get where they’re coming from, but come on… at least Wade is a far better human character than freaking Chris from the Sonic X anime 😂
But yea, your opinions on the knuckles series were pretty interesting to hear. Yea the knuckles series does have its flaws and I do wish it could’ve been better, but it was still a fun series. Not a masterpiece, but still a decently fun show 😊
