I saw Sammy in El Paso in the 80's pre-VH....he used to go up above the stage on a ramp that went to each side of the stage...he ran up to the edge of the ramp and the crew hung a PA too close and he smacked his head...in between lyrics he's yelling, "Somebody get me a f'ing towel!"...his forehead was bleeding pretty bad...dude finished the show and went to the ER after the show and got stitches..I said, that guy is hardcore, I've been a fan for life since...great performer!
Was stationed at Ft. Bliss back then. Saw that show.
When he hit the truss all I could say is a F___.

Tribute to the professional that Sammy is-- I was at that Monsters of Rock show at Alpine Valley, WI, and I never even knew this happened until months later when I read about it. Still put on a hell of a show!
I was at that Denver show. I was 16, and it was one of the best days of my life.
Sammy is lucky he is not a paralyzed paraplegic after that insane injury. You must have a guardian angel!

Dang Sammy I know how much that hurt! I broke my tailbone and I couldn't walk or sit and going #2 was beyond excruciating for months! You're the Boss to go through that whole tour with that! Incredible! 💪 Love ya man ! Rock on 🤘

Sammy, I can top that. My daughter's head broke my tailbone completely off when she was born! : ) She's 34 now and I can feel it sometimes to this day! Seriously, I know that a tailbone injury hurts like ****!

Good story. I was at the VH show in San Diego when someone threw a lit cigarette into Sammys hair. Sammy and Ed were sitting on the edge of the stage and someone threw it. Sammy felt it and tried to get it out but Ed turned and got it out of his hair and Sammy says, "I am not violent man but I'd kicked your ass." Crowed went wild.
I regret not seeing any of the VH concerts with Sammy at the old Sports Aroma. I did see VH's first concert there, though, and a couple of other early ones, and they were memorable.

A serious injury and still performed that's called character. My parents brought me up like that you feel sick go to school. At gym I twisted my ankle in the morning I felt the pain but went to school and cold.

Same thing happened on the stage of the movie “Rock Star.”
That injury occurred at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. The first of two nights there to open the tour. I was there the next night - he was limping around but still kicked ass. As bad luck would have it, Stevie Ray Vaughn was departing that same venue when his helicopter went down in 1990.

Ouch! I felt that. Chronic Lyme disease has given me constant chronic tailbone pain. I've tried everything. I've had no injuries. It's all from the horrible screwed up autoimmune issue Lyme causes. I've done electrodes daily for over a year. Ozone injections--over a dozen. PRP treatments. Acupuncture, heat, hot tub, dextrose injections made it worse. Now I'm trying Laser Acupuncture. Tailbone pain is disabling. Lyme disease sucks.

That injury postponed the Monsters of Rock show at the L.A. coliseum by a day, I was there and it was an awesome show, Metallica came on stage and we all rushed the field and busted the barricades, it was epic.
I saw Sammy in Dallas on his last tour before joining Van Halen. The night before, he hit his head in San Antonio and got stitches mid-concert. Bad to the Bone!
I can somewhat understand concerning a tailbone injury. When I was in 6th grade in junior high, I was waiting in line, right after school let out, for the school bus, when a couple of neighbors boys, came up behind me, and for some still unknown reason, one of them kick me right in the ass. Damn, the pain was horrible, almost caused me to fall down. I turned around and they were laughing. I was shocked, and horrified. I didn’t do anything to provoke that, never said anything to either one of them, prior to that. Will never understand why one of them did that. Anyway, I was in a lot of pain, by the time we got on the bus to come home. I told my mother, and she was upset, because she couldn’t understand why someone would hurt me. Anyway, my tailbone area was swelled and bruised. We later found out that it was actually a slight hairline fracture. We treated it with BenGay or some brand of topical pain cream. It was very sore to sit down, for a couple weeks, but then it healed up. I’m 55 years old now, and arthritis has set in. But yeah, tailbone related trauma is bad.
That’s one of the worst things I’ve ever heard. Show must go on!

He's a good person. I remember him talking about Warren Buffet wanting him to present because of his success with Cabo Wabo Tequila. Sammy declined because he thought of himself as lucky. You have have to be good to be lucky.

thanks Sammy. I heard about this from a Houston radio dj, who was at the show you're describing, when it happened. I saw you guys at Rice Stadium in Houston a few weeks later. that was July 2nd, '88. there were sound issues throughout the day. seems like an issue when Dokken was on particularly, then later during VH's set a little too. but so what? the band doesn't control the p.a from the stage. when you guys start playing the difference between VH and even the Scorpions is stark. All pro players trying to do a great job but VH was better in every way. the way EVH, AVH and Michael play together is more impressive, the music is more sophisticated, there is a swing/groove/style to VH other bands just don't have. their material is square, boxy, sharp edges, predictable 4/4 rock. Vh was never that typical...and of course you do a great job singing. Another difference that adds to VH's badassery is the leads/solo's Eddie played live weren't the exact same as studio recording. the VH guys, regardless of which tour, would improvise live, like you do when you're really, really good. other bands that day seemed to be scripted.

I don't know if he was trying to see my response but I never had a Dr treat me like that. Yeah I felt violated only in Springfield Missouri you get that kind of sentimental treatment home town of Stephanie. Nothing surprises anymore

Thank you Sammy. Endurance. I will make it through the medical procedure. I did have the tortoll benadryl, steroid shot into IV last Saturday night It was on 4/20/24. The doctor's were rushing in about an hour later waking me up saying my oxygen dropped. I said It must have been a bad dream. It's the chronic headache with sinus pressure from hitting the dash evacuating that Past Fire. I'm looking forward to... healing, and a good summer. Cheers from Salt Lake City. Everyone wears Red. Damn. I was injured serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Stupid training accident but it ended my Army career. I know the pain.
