i feel sorry for mick anthony having to put up with all these egos for years and then getting arseholed for eddies son? WTF
Don't feel too sorry, it made him worth $100 million or more
I had the pleasure of meeting Dave years ago and I have to say he's one of the most interesting people he's ever met.
😂😂😂😂
Dave will ALWAYS be a rock star in his own mind.
Why are you a rock star this guy used to sell every sit in the house even i don't like Roth what an idiot
Lets’s appreciate the brilliance of Eddie Van Halen and all the past/present members of the band. Life is short
Well said
Certainly is.

You obviously don't know who David Lee Roth is.... he doesn't need Van Halen Van Halen needed him.... Sammy has been trying to sound like Dave all his life... "I've my own sound" he says.... LIES!

The top 5 most played VH songs on spotify are all DLR era.

Exactly. Dave's 2 VH albums sold more the Sammy's 4 VH albums.
There's no accounting for bad taste.
Laughs on:" Sam throws a party, I AM the party."

"Sam throws a party, I am the party". Game over :)
DLR always laughs at his own jokes. He is his OWN laugh-track.

Nobody makes Dave laugh harder then Dave! 😂
See, that's the main difference: Sammy's a Dad, and Dave is the kid that never grew up...
And none of both are wrong by that.. Dave is a fucking legend, Hagar is awesome too
David is an utter idiot, Sammy is and always be a legend. And he makes great Tequila!!! CABO BABO!!!
oh leave off hes a showman! dont take him seriously van halen awsome iconic band of 70,s without diamond dave wouldnt have been the same.its just banter for gods sake.
Sam was married and had kids by the time he joined Van Halen.
@UC7Y_94z-KqErs-m0hb_7RJQ calling DLR an idiot just shows how much of someone that doesn't look at the overall picture..
This dude has lived all over the World... lived in China for yrs... learned the Language...is pretty damn good at more than a few Martial Arts.. actually speaks about 4 languages from just being " in the environment"... he has also written some of the best lyrics you might ever read..also was an EMT in NYC no less for a bit... how and why wld you ever Judge that? Read about things, from all different angles.. then feel free to acknowledge a silly statement you made, and apologize to the UA-cam World... thank you.
To call him a name like that really makes your life that much out of touch of the bigger picture. But what do I know...oh..yeah.. not more than Him.. but def more than you..
I love the contrast of how everything goes perfectly as plan for Dave and everything is fucked up for Hagar.
Does anyone else get the vibe that DLR was thrilled to be back on a big stage?
13th Elm Productions of course he was. That’s his element.
DLR is his own biggest fan and will ride on anyone’s coat tails for another 5 minutes of fame!
His home away from home.
In response to DM, if it wasn't for DLR promoting and marketing the band and being the spokes person, their success would have been limited to just the mesmorizing bad ass playing of Eddie, which would have brought them success, but not as much, DLR doesn't ride on the cost tails of anyone, he is a leader, and is the biggest reason for their success, even though Eddie is most bad ass guitar player in the history of hard rock
@@claytoncarey2730 Who can say. F DLR the arrogant jack@ss who lost his voice and sounded like crap live at the end. Sammy all the way. (Not that i dont like DLR erly days)
VH with Dave and VH with Sammy were 2 completely different bands, both with their good points and bad points. There's no need to have to choose one or the other. Both were great for what they were.
You are so correct both Roth & Hagar made both versions great & not so great, Although I still think Van Halen would have made the big time if (like Ed Alex and Mike say) they got Hagar in the first place, It just would've taken longer for them to get a record deal, but even then no one could "not" notice Eddies amazing playing, I really thought after 5150 they could be the 80's Led Zepp' if only they worked harder and longer on the mixing and music on the OU812 album,
@@michaelwright8149 Van Halen with Roth was a Self Indulgent, Pander-to-White Kids Band. Van Halen with Hagar was a "We FINALLY got Crossover Material that Everyone can love regardless of Musical Tastes" Band.
Tornado1994 what the hell? The original band wasn’t pandered to white kids & the Sammy era wasn’t really diverse, it was the same thing but with a new singer & more mature lyrics.
Totally agree
@@Tornado1994 - in 1978 who was buying rock albums? They played rock and roll which is what they loved so they didn't pander to anyone. The Hagar years they became more commercial so claiming they were better is unfair. Typically more commercial bands sell more albums and that's what happened. More radio play, more MTV play, more albums sold. I like both eras but much prefer the Roth era because it fits my style of music more. But rememeber just because a band is more commercial doesn't equal them being better
Both are best for Van Halen but no one can replace Eddie, a true guitarist.
Rip Eddie Van Halen 🎸🎸💔💔.
legend has it, dave has still not grown up to this day.
I love how Sammy acts like he’s such a humbler guy than dave yet he’s complaining about his dressing room like it’s the end of the world… I don’t see Dave complaining when he opened the tour. And let’s say he did complain, he didn’t make a reality show to air his grievances.
This whole thing was staged I think. All the drama and everything…..done for this video. You can see Sammy had a whole file crew documenting it.
Sammy the red balladeer is a loudmouth hypocrite who only wants to look good in front of the public, so that people like you can say he is humble...... He is badmouthing David all the time, everything. that time, he even criticized him for being single and never having married (but who does he think he is? a balladeer who believes he has the right to judge the private life of another person who likes being single) he said bad things about Eddie Van Halen, but bad things (if it weren't for Ed, Sammy would be singing in seedy saloons) a couple of months ago he interfered in Alex's private life, saying that he was a hermit and etc..., but what? Who does the Montrose vocalist think he is to interfere? In the life of Alex, who never liked being in the media, the red pop ballader is the biggest hypocrite del medio
This was professional wrestling...Sammy and Dave got along fine and the Lawyers made sure of that
Sammy had a bigger solo career going at the time, as a touring act. (And people would travel to see HIM at the Cabo Wabo Cantina.) He knew that bringing Dave on board would make even more money all around.
And in response, Dave treated Sammy like dirt, and presented himself as the bigger star. Because if he had done otherwise, it would've been an admission that Sammy was lifting him up.

LoL awww poor forgotten about Gary. I personally thought he sounded better than Sammy.
"If he brings a circus with him, I'm gonna criticize him."
How did Sammy manage to sound both threatening, and pathetically non-threatening at the same time? That was amazing!
Sammy nailed it. Dave is a Rock Star. Your preference to which VH you like better is independent of your choice of the better person. I can't imagine anyone in the world not seeing Sammy as a down to Earth, regular dude, and Dave as a self-centered DB, a role Dave relishes playing (and playing well)!
Sammy had a big career before VH. Dave only had a few years of a career after VH. Also, Sammy is a great guitarist. The only reason people don't talk about that more is that he was the singer in a bad with the greatest guitarist of all time
Reminds me of Keith Richards' summation of Mick Taylor: "He's an incredible guitarist, but he's a terrible rock star".
@@Lemopalm Dave had a way bigger solo career than sam. Sam doesn’t have a solo song bigger than Just Like Paradise that shits played 5 times a day on the radio still and Dave also has the bigger VH song with Jump either way he’s bigger

mlasko74 are you serious? Eddie has lied about Sammy & Michael Anthony multiple times, Sammy & Gary only to talk to Michael man, even Dave is sick of their shit.
Sam Forbes it was the new manager who got into Eddies head and didn’t like Sammy so he convinced Eddie it was “his band” and not to let “that guy”(Sammy), run “his band”, plus they wouldn’t give Sammy 2 months off after the Balance tour, so that he could spend time with his new born, his second time in VH, 2003-2005, he must’ve been shocked when Eddie had turned into a meth head, Eddie destroyed that reunion. Michael Anthony just got caught in the crossfire, Eddie tried to replace him 3 times before Wolfgang.
Ya think?
I saw this tour in 2002 & Hagar wiped his ass with Diamond Dud! It wasn't even close who was better that day...hands down Hagar was!!
Agree. I saw Roth during Fair Warning, Diver Down, and 1984. Hagar was 5150, For unlawful carnal knowledge, and last tour with Sammy. Dave, along with being wasted, did the same thing every show. Sammy, true performer. He is one of the most down to earth guys. Gives the fans what they want. After watching this, confirms my thoughts. Dave is a egotistical, arrogant piece of shit. Show Sammy some respect.

Yah. Sammy doesn't have a big ego.
5150 is VH’s best album. Hands down
@@davidstephan5116 👎 sappy love songs garbage, with Sammy double-knit haggar
I talked with a few people who went to that very show at Universal Hollywood, and they all said Hagar was the far better performer than DLR that night.
Roth was one of the best showman in music, but MAN did he get caught up in his own press...damn shame he treated so many people like shit.
Guarantee Eddie and Alex slung their fair share of shit, Dave was just louder than they were. The fact that the Van Halen brothers are constantly having problems with their band members makes me wonder. Michael, Dave, Sammy, and no telling who all else they just can't seem to get along with. When you have a track record of kicking members out, you need to look in the mirror.
***** Slow down, tiger. Sammy Hagar has had his fair share of issues with the bands he's been in. He got dismissed from Montrose and Van Halen. Then he whines non-stop about being an opening act in this video. I'd say they are ALL hard to get along with because they ALL are full of themselves. I guess, what I'm saying is every member of Van Halen has had their issues.
I'm not defending Sammy either. Maybe Van Halen is a cursed band that can only allow assholes and drama queens. They make some good music, as is usually the case with bands that can't get along.
@@UKsinceBirth except MA
James Stewart I can agree with that.
Sammy is a singer, songwriter and hell of a guitar player and solo artist, down to earth, from humble beginnings and has never forgotten were he came from. Dave is a good front man entertainer, ego freak, narcissistic, hyperactive attention deficit character, born with a silver spoon and a trust fund. We all like Sam and Dave for different reasons, some people like Ford some like Chevy.
In the interview where Dave is on that bench by the pool, he literally says he’s a son of Satan and that his role is mostly symbolic. Just straight up says that. The way he said you don’t wanna know what’s going on behind the scenes in his life and then has that demonic belly laugh, that was also pretty telling.
I like that. It's well put and makes perfect sense. 👍
Dave rocks, but he must me insufferable. On purpose.
I think Dave had some sort of influence on the music Eddie wrote because the riffs were harder and darker than they were with Sammy. That being said I'm sure Dave was almost impossible to work with back then.
Hey Sammy, somebody's jealous 😂
I give Sammy credit. He tolerated Roth for one more show than I would have been able to. I love Dave as much as Sammy in terms of Van Halen output (Sammy much better musician, Dave the Showman) but offstage?
His antics would have fried me out right away
I have a feeling that there are not many things that irritate Sammy...but DLR is one of them!
Add Edward Van Halen to that list.
Van Wolfen Sammy at the ribfest was 10 times better than Dave and Eddie. Dave's literally sucks these days.
+Marc McCune and Sammy's voice is still kick ass
I wish Sammy & Michael would be the bigger men and do one last tour with the Van Halen brothers! That would be a sell out tour!
AnimalHouseforReal I don't think you get it. Sammy and Michael were fired by Eddie and Alex.
How can Sammy and Michael possibly be "bigger men"? It's not up to them, whether they rejoin the band, or not.
"Matt Sencio!" He screams in his "Light em up!" voice. Love Sammy.
LOL All I see is Sammy getting the shaft, and Dave getting all the glory!
Thats what happens with beta-males...
Lioninthenight ,
Actually both got the shaft. As good as Eddy is, he was the main problem with the bands interrelationship.
@@stephencarlsbad There couldn't be a truer statement. It even comes out in the lyrics Dave is " Hot shoe burning down the avenue, Gotta on ramp comin through my bedroom" and Sammy is "If you want to see other guys, Baby, I could let it slide" Dave may have lost his voice, but those amazing recorded tracks from Classic Van Halen are matchless. Honestly, I like Sammy. Just not in Van Halen.
@@taotuhao5969 Absolutely spot on! The lyrics reveal it all!
One thing is that it was Roth's band first. Sammy slid in there and had a damned good run. He was and always will be more talented with a better voice, but Dave was and is the quintessential rock star. He pretty much defined it by the 1980's.
Sad thing is if David Lee Roth could have turned himself down a little he would have been waaaay better. Overkill imo

sam is a great vocalist and dave is a great showman. if you know what is worth more there is no argue.
I like to imagine some day in the near future, Dave and Sammy sitting in the activity room of a nursing home sharing stories about old times.. and then arguing about them.. and then forgetting what they were arguing about.
As a life-long VH fan there is only one thing I regret...I didn’t see Sammy and the boys live as many times as I would have liked. I’ve seen Roth on every tour-the last time was kind of sad. Dave just couldn’t pull it off. But Sammy has never disappointed.
That said, it’s been wonderful for over forty years!
Van Halen is the greatest rock band of all time and it’s not even close .. long love the mighty Van Halen .. sammys era and Dave’s era were both amazing. From Van Halen 1 in 78 through balance non 1995 they were the baddest rock band on earth . Thank you Eddie and Alex and mike and dave and Sam for decades worth of incredible music . i seen both dlr and sammy live, not only was sammy better but he.s always been classier..don't get me wrong, dlr brought van halen to the masses, sammy just made them epic
Dave & Eddie made them Epic.

I know everyone likes Sammy more, but David Lee Roth nailed those songs like no other back in the day...
I cannot get on board with Van Halen without that dude, call me old-fashioned...
i dunno if "everyone" likes sammy ... the fans from 1978 to 1984 would like to chat 😉
Massived egos (Sammy knows how to keep his hidden) but MEGA singers!!!
The way I see it, Sammy Hagar is a complete professional and DLR is a bit of an inconsiderate diva. They are both great in their own right, but in my opinion, Sammy Hagar is just a better person. DLR is hilarious though!
exactly, i would like to work and hang out with Hagar, but ( atleast for me) Roth is more of an eye candy, and more likely to do some crazy shit, which is always fun
If you only listen to musicians who you think are "good" people, then you wouldn't have very many songs in your itunes library.
Sammy is definitely the better person, but Dave is the better rock star
Sammy is a douche.
@tom quigley Ok i'll bite. Why do you say that? Im not a fan of either band but im curious as to why
Kudos to both. They each have made their own contributions!
Such a genius and mastermind of tone he was. EVH will forever be remembered as the revolutionary who put heavy rock and roll on the map!!!! Born in 87 I grew up on his sound and have played guitar now for 21 years and still don’t have 1% of the talent he had in one finger!!!!!!! He is and will forever be my biggest HERO!!!!
I saw Dave live in 1999 and he was really great! High energy! I've seen Sammy 3 times, once with VH(95), once with Chickenfoot and once solo. While the energy might not be quite as high as Roth in 99(he opened for Bad Company and played for 45 minutes) Sammy has yet to disappoint. He still sounds great!
There was a PPV for one of the Bad Company shows in 1999, and during the pre-show they only referred to DLR as "the opening act." I found it hilarious.
This woulda made one fantastic reality show. I love the way they go at each other although I think Sammy is taking it just a bit seriously, otherwise, it's hilarious and I wish them both well. Would be neat to see them both on stage together. Hope they do more of this, nothing wrong with crazy insane now and then.
I agree. Dave is just being show biz dave and Sammy is jealous and bitter of that fact.
It's a strange deal, because they're both ultra-privileged individuals. But if you commit to a road tour, and somebody starts grating on you, it's a prison term. The adult thing to do is control what you can and not fret about what you can't control. The tour will end. And you can set better terms - and maybe better people - for the next tour. But once a tour is set up, there's a lot of people counting on you to put bread on their table. A lot of people committed to make it work, and you're snatching food outta their kids' mouths when you go Diva on a tour.
Sammy wants to have a good time, but he doesn't want a circus. You would get serious too if the clown you are sharing the duties with is not taking anything serious or professional at all.
@@stephencarlsbad Jealous? You have duties to share with a clown and he never stops being in "clown" mode you are gunna have the same demeanor.
Van Halen was a band with two different flavors, both good but it comes down to each person's personal taste that counts. I wouldn't say that one Sucks. They each brought their own unique sound.
It sucks that I was to busy in 2002 to know about this tour. It's actually pretty great that they got along long enough to pull off the shows they did. Hats off to them.
Come on! Eat and Smile KILLED anything VH did with Sam.
Dlr band.... all killer no filler
I absolutely adored DLR back in the day. That's my point - he's still living that. That was yesteryear. Sad, but true. 😐
Who wants to hear Van Halen sing about dreams, love, and accomplishing your goals? Not me lol
As uninteresting as listening to covers sang by Roth. VH started off being known more for the covers they did than anything else. Both versions of VH were completely different, but the one thing you have to remember is that Eddie pointed the direction of the band. That’s why Roth left, disagreeing over which direction their music would go. So, don’t blame Hagar on all the changes. Eddie wanted the band to be more diverse. VH with Roth was great, but Roth just didn’t have the vocal ability to go where Eddie wanted to go. It wasn’t as much Roth versus Hagar as it was a changing EVH.
@@johnblossom8447 the whole Eddie decided everything men has been debunked long ago. Roth was the lyric writer. And honestly I would rather heater Just a Gigolo yhan dreams. I'm not saying Eddie didn't change with the times though
@@jaykapolka6111, you’re partially correct. It did have a lot to do with Eddie and the direction he wanted to go. Roth left because he wanted to keep doing straight Rock music. Eddie wanted to use more synthesizers and have a more Pop Rock sound. The music was always written first in Van Halen. So, the music changes and so do the lyrics. Have you heard a lot of Sammy Hagar’s solo stuff? “I Can’t Drive 55”, “Only One Way To Rock”, “Eagles Fly”, “I’ve Done Everything For You”, “Boys Night Out”, “Heavy Metal”, weren’t about “dreams” and “love”. You have to make the lyrics fit the music. And, unlike when Roth was in the band, Eddie and Sammy worked on a lot of songs together, at the same time. So, Eddie had a lot more influence on lyrics as well. Remember, Eddie was married and soon after had a son. His outlook changed, even though he was an addict. What lyrics would really fit the music written for “Dreams” and “Love Walks In”? Some of the first songs VH made with Hagar were “Summer Nights” and “Good Enough”, which were closer to the music done with Roth. After a concert in the “Monster’s If Rock” tour, I got to talk with Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar. I met briefly with Eddie and Alex, but they weren’t into hanging out with fans. Michael Anthony talked about the change in musical direction the Van Halen brothers wanted and that’s why Roth left.
Original Van Halen with Roth was mostly amazing, but they had quite a bit of just okay filler songs, too. Hagar did add a depth to Van Halen they didn’t have before, like it or not, and Eddie wanted to change the musical direction of the band. That is well documented. Roth talks about his differences with Eddie about musical direction a lot. It’s no offense to Roth, but Eddie wanted to have the band evolve and mature. That wasn’t Roth’s style. The Van Halen brothers were really lucky to have both Roth and Hagar. I don’t know if Van Halen would have had the same success without them. Roth also left because Eddie wanted, and was taking, more control over the band. You can’t tell me with as controlling as the Van Halen brothers were that by the time Roth wanted out and Hagar joined that they didn’t have a lot of say over which lyrics made it and which didn’t. They would have fired Hagar a lot sooner if they didn’t agree with, and completely approve of, his lyrics. Sammy Hagar has proven he is very versatile. You can’t tell me things wouldn’t be different if Eddie said, “stop the love crap.” By 1984, Eddie was in complete control over the direction of the band. They didn’t fire Hagar over lyrics. Lyrics were never mentioned. Come on. Do you really think Eddie would have allowed the lyrics Hagar wrote if he didn’t FULLY agree with them? Get real.
Hagar and EVH = magic
Now, this is entertainment! I would love this to have made it into a series. Someone find the rest of the lost footage and air this!
While I prefer Dave I respect and like Sammy as a person. And musician.
Prefer the studio Roth but that one is long gone....what you are left is DLR live...which sucks
DLR has sucked live since 1982. Sammy still sounds good now in his 70s.
Nailed it.
Dave is the literal embodiment of "all hat and no cattle".
Good one!
Nah.

..as little boys.Superb stuff. Thankyou for posting.
Dave's voice was great on the last tours. I saw them in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Las Vegas show was great. The ones who keep on saying Dave's voice is gone or shot are obviously Sammy and Eddie fans
No doubt. Roth is an excellent shape to this day
yeah sick of hearing that old chestnut! DLR was the only frontman for halen!!!!
Sammy sure was preoccupied with Dave.
I was never a big van Halen guy growing up. I was more Ozzy and Judas Priest. but when I played Van Halen with my friends, as soon as David would sing, I would rewind the song to the beginning . I never gave Sammy Hagar a chance, but as I get older, I noticed they were more of a complete band where I would enjoy the lyrics and the music. I enjoyed David solo career better.
I never to this day believed Sammy went back to band life after being solo!!? I love I called it, and it didn't last, all my friends were saying how did you know? I think Van Halen was a great band, all the contention and b.s. I couldn't even stand. They delt with it longer than I could of. I'm glad I lived my youth through this time!! I thank them for that!!
Dave and Sam happened as they should have. It's easy to understand why Ed and Alex worried greatly about the future of the band at the time. Roth's Rock-star showmanship was phenomenal in the 80s and a big reason for the band's success. How-ever Hagar was the right replacement. Moving forward in a new direction replacing some of the showmanship with actual talent for singing and playing came with risk but it gave the band another 10 years at the top of the heap.
Yes but at what cost. That was some weird music Sammy made with VH. His voice was too high and his rhythm was so straight forward that it lost the VH magic.
Dave is great, what a Legend
Sammy was / is just RAW rock. love his voice
those two guys are hilarious
"if i sweat my black underwear will show through, thats something dave would do"
"stay away from the cabo wabo"
How cool would it be to hang out back stage with both of these guys, each guy has their own ego one very loud and one is less in your face. Their egos went on Tour to say how do we stick it to the Van Halens.
1.) it's show business
2.) no disrespect to sammy, loved his solo stuff and some of the van hagar stuff as well
3.) dave came first, you'll always be the second step child, except to 80's kids who never heard the early stuff until after they were bombarded with 5150 for the first years of their puberty and are mind controlled
4.) you'll never change it
5.) live with it
I've never heard that so eloquently presented.
haans gruber Nice!!! I liked some of Sammy's solo stuff, but could never ever get into his gig with VH. I had the treat of seeing live VH with DLR and remember the first time I ever hear VH on the radio and there is just no way that anyone could say that SH was close to DLR in VH's prime. Sammy is 2nd. Always will be. And yeah - most musicians are wacked. They aren't afraid to use that side of the brain that 'normal' folks don't use. DLR is what finally put VH on the map. I own all VH's music in every shape and form with DLR. Did not buy one piece of music with Hagar and VH. Couldn't do it.
Yep!
See I liked VH with Roth, some of the stuff they did was off the hook, unchained, if you will... But once Hagar joined their musicianship went even higher. Listen to a song like "Right Now" versus a song like "Running with the Devil" with a critical ear and the difference is night and day. While the early stuff was good, straight ahead rock, the later stuff became more instrumentally challenging without losing it's mass "listenable" appeal - Kind of like early Rush and the early Beatles had a love child.
Me loves Roth and Hagar! Van Halen/Van Hagar! :) Dammit, I love 'em both!
Seen Sammy when he was with Montrose. Great little RNR Band.
We're all together on the true heels of this story being the Van Halen brothers, right?
In that they fucked it all up themselves ? Yes I would say so, pair of idiots, the sam/Dave tour could have gone on for years.
Without any of these two, plus Michael Anthony, Van Halen would have been just another hard rock band with a brilliant guitarist and a great drummer, still trying to find a good frontman to front the band. R.I.P Eddie.
Roth: would be unbelievable to hang out for a day or weekend. Beyond that he’s probably too much
Sammy: Not as entertaining but a friend for life
I prefer the quiet Roth, the side he almost never shows us. I also like the Hagar that only rarely doesn't talk about success and living it up. Bloody Libras are a handful.
I love Dave’s energy he’s smart
And how do you know Dave is not a friend for life he must miss Ed badly
🤣DLR summed it up perfectly - "Sam throws a party. I am the party."🤣
Diamond Dave. It's what van Halen is all about. Diver down.
Sammy hagar un musico extraordinario con una gran, gran voz con mucho sentimiento.
Always thought Sammy was a class act, still do.
People will always want to hear the classics performed live. Whenever a new song is played, that's when a lot people choose to go to the bathroom or get another beer (unless the new song sounds like it could become a classic.
@Invidious Really? And your evidence of this is?
@Invidious True
@Invidious Only a chump won't stand up for himself. DR is a hack.
@Invidious - Eddie screwed him over, he was pissed. So when he was asked questions about that he answered. Don't mistake that for complaining about exbandmembers. He never had an issue with Michael, Michael kept jamming with Sammy and ended up getting fired from VH and never received a phone call about it. Eddie is an egotistical POS. Screwed Roth over twice, screwed Sammy over and then screwed Michael over. Check that track record and stop blaming Sammy
Is there a Part Two to This Video?
This Was GOOD 👍
Sammy would be amazing to hang around, such a cool guy. Always says how it is
got a big head.
he's made it, and he could be humble if he wanted to on camera.
Sammy's wife "WOW"
i can't imagine having to tour with dlr. I need a fuckin aspirin just watchin this video!
yamaha superbike Love the original lineup, hate Dave's ego.
I liked him(DLR) in VH...but man he would be the MOST annoying person to work with
I love Dave smart man
"A bottle of tequila in one hand and his dick in the other." God, that cracked me up. And the hotties on Dave's bus, it's like no time passed in Roth's life. I laughed hard for five minutes. I loved this video and still love both of these guys.
One interview video with Sammy and down the UA-cam rabbit hole I go. 🤣
I think the issue is far simpler than implied.
People REALLY like Hagar, great singer, but he was not a front man in how he acted or the persona he put out.
People REALLY LOVE David because he was the visual display of what a "Rock God" is. He lived the life, he flaunted the life, he acted the part and MUSIC is a big part of the act, but too a teenager it is the SHOW and when that teenager grows up...he still wants the show. He does not want to see the group played like it is a retirement center gig. He wants the scissor kicks, the random sexual remark, the...He wants to see the Rock God, not just hear a voice.
I also reflect, on the members associated with each singer...and, to be honest, Steve Vai is the only one that aged well. Eddie looks like an evil count from a hole in the wall country. Alex looks like an old, Jewish watch repairman, David looks like an old woman, Anthony looks like he is still avoiding speed humps at buffet bars and Sammy looks like the aged, bastard love child of The Dude and Walter Sobchak. Steve Vai still looks like a Rock Star and a model these days. Maybe the 6 years age difference makes all of the difference :P
+Robert Hardy Sammy Hagar didn't age well? Wtf have u been smoking? Sammy aged better than anyone associated with vh! Sammy is 69 yo now and still rocking the fuck out of a stage. where exactly is Dave now? oh right playing at retirement homes open mic night. I saw Sammy play months ago and the guy is still amazing live with chicken foot. Dave on the other hand can't sing a vh song so he just talks thru the songs.
Well, he seemed somewhat humbled at the reunion show-2008-after hip surgery (s). The Van Halens had him surrounded with Wolfie there lol
EXACTLY! Everyone enjoys a douche after menstrating.
AM I RIGHT!??!
Hehehehehe Sam throws a party...............I am the party.
Yessssss !!!!! He is !
i know!!! made me bloody chuckle!!! hes hilarious!
Cool documentary on David & Sammy..
Best Late Night With Johnny P Show...
Sammy is a real musician...a songwriter...composer....singer...guitarist....and front man. I have never heard Sammy sing a bad note and I have been his fan for 40 years. David Roth is glitter and Las Vegas with an average voice. Granted, Roth is one of the best front men of all time and is an exceptional performer. Roth used to scream in the early days and was a damned good singer. I give the award to Sammy for being more genuine.
Which is better, peanut butter or jelly? They are both great! Nothing can touch early Van Halen but Van Halen with Sammy was goddamn amazing and DLR solo was great too. Sammy fits more with Van Halen's personality but DLR was the showman that makes rock bands larger than life. So much good music. I loved that the two big front men joined forces for the cash. The only misstep by VH was Gary Cherone.
Can we just take a minute to acknowledge the contribution Michael Anthony made to the band??he gets overshadowed by the egos of Sam and Dave but his wicked vocals and playing made all the difference to the band....and he's a incredibly humble and decent guy...unlike some others I could name
I love them both both can sing and both entertaining ❤️❤️
Rock star vs musician and that really summarized the Roth vs VH bros as well.
Just watch the Red Rocker Live in ST Louis NUFF SAID!!
I love both sides of Van Halen!
I love Star Wars and Star Trek!
I love Xbox and Playstation!
I love Halo and Uncharted!
I love The Office Uk & US
I love both sides of Sepultura!
I love both sides of Anthrax!
I love DC & Marvel
I've always been that type of guy...
chiefmegadeth Crazy ass!! lol
chiefmegadeth Don't know if you are bipolar or just Schizophrenic....
Thundergod129 Don't think you know what either of them mean :)
+chiefmegadeth Coke n Pepsi! Big Mac & Whopper!
+Thundergod129 Don't know if you used wikipedia or encyclopedia.
Sammy Hagars voice is still great, while DLR lost his, and he sound awful on stage these days. DLR is and always will be a goof ball.
Very cool to see Irving Azoff talking to Sammy during the Augeri era of Journey. Probably was handling a Journey tour along side this one.
I've shared this analogy before; VH was THE band everyone rocked to until 1984 when Eddie the "axe master" decided to play keyboard. Then the worlds greatest front man left. The end.
DLR was the show and the bit of conflict between him and the brothers made the band what it was, including Michael Anthony. They still rock on my player.
Hagar is good, but DLR is VH!
Maybe someday, before they get much older, they'll learn to play well together again and we'll all enjoy some good rock and show!
Bottom line - Sammy easily sings DLR's songs, DLR can't touch Sammy's songs. Even in his youth his range falls waaay short of Hagar. To say nothing of power and durability.
You have the knack of stating the obvious. They’re two completely different talents.
@@RobRock-qr3hp And you have the knack of trying to make someone feel bad about being right about greater vs. lesser talent.
he doesn't have to
DLR fans punching the sky reading this
And Sammy had a dad bod at 25, and I would love to see him do one high kick off the big speakers. Sammy is a garbage showman in comparison to Roth. Yes, Sammy is a better singer. He loses in every other category. Put on a rock station, and you will hear far more DLR era music being played. So the content was better as well.
why was this not a show way better than anything on tv now days
Van Hagar, all those multi selling albums, now NO ONE remembers why
I have no idea what "Dave time" is, I just wish I had some of it too
Dave time = coke time
I saw the tour in Boston,Ma. Sammy Hagar ran circles around DLR !!!! DLR came on stage half in the wrapper, his band was great but DLR was stumbling all over the stage. When DLR started dissing Hagar on stage he was boooed !!!!
I was there too. I totally agree!
Will always love Sammy because that was my first Van Halen cassette I bought, after finding a a copy of 0u812 and the first album. Loved the first album but there was more maturity in the 0u812. But 5150 what an album! The sound the everything about it shiny and new . A bit more memorable music, of course Eddie grew as musician and composer actually.
"sober ? , close enough" LOL !
