Born in Jamaica w.i. grew up in the Bronx living in jersey now. I love the bronx hone sweet home. Big up my east gunhill peoples. I always go shopping on Fordham Road.
I'm watching this as I have loads of Bronx Hip Hop from the 80s in my vinyl collection across the pond. Back when I would buy records on import, I never had a clue as a youngster what the Bronx was like! ✌️
im born and raised in the bronx i now live in atlanta but i remember back in like 2002 when walking around fordham you had to be super fresh from fresh tims and leather jackets now it seems like everyone just dresses bummy... nyc used to be the flyest state what happened???
Still is, go to Harlem, LES, SoHo, Brooklyn. Some of the flyest cats still coming out of the Bronx, Hugo Mendoza is Creative Director of Awake NY, and formerly the CD at Stüssy. Jae Tips and A$AP Illz are two Bronx cats making rounds in the fashion industry right now. Bloody Dior and Bloody Osiris are killing shit right now, they from Harlem. Tremaine Emory who was raised in Queens is the CD at Supreme NY. Do not take this vid a face value, it's a small sample size of an entire day.
I used to hang over there when I was a kid growing up. I remember the four movie theaters on Fordham. The Capri, RKO, Lowes Paradise, and The Valentine.
Fordham Rd for me was 70s & 80s. Great area for shopping and a nice balance of diversity amongst the people. Three movie theaters, numerous clothing stores, Alexander's, Crazy Eddie, Sears, Modell's sporting goods, eateries, hot dog carts lol Not gonna lie but, if I were still there, I'd probably clothesline those disrespectful idiots riding motor bikes on the sidewalks. That's the old school in me, that's how I'm built.
I grew up in this area in the 80s 90s. Looks more diverse now than I remember. More spanish speakers from other latin countreis as well as african countries represented.
I don't think it is more diverse but that many blacks and most whites have moved out and a lot of people from South America have moved to the States and have now settled in or around the Bronx
I do miss Fordham Road in the Bronx. I moved to Hertford North Carolina in 1991 to 2001. I moved to Philadelphia Pennsylvania 2001 - 2014. I now live in Darby Pennsylvania Delaware County. My dreams 🛌 are to not only be financially independent and strong 💪 but, to go back home 🏠 to New York City 🏙️ The Bronx 😅 also or Queens for good 👍 . I do miss the sounds of Salsa and Merengue music 🎼. I do thank God that I do speak English and Spanish fairly well.
Grew up in the South Bronx in the 70's, Fordham rd, Tremont ave, Jerome ave was my stomping ground, joined the Army in the 70's to get out of the hood, now I'm retired disabled veteran still visit the Bronx, I now live in Tampa Florida.
@mrn13 a lot of people in America and a lot of other countries have negative preconceptions of the whole continent of Africa because of the media and lack of positive representation same thing they has done with the countries in the middle east
Shopping was really good on Fordham Road many years ago, recently visited these in 2023 , totally surprise that most of the big stores are all gone. Why?
I currently live in the south and have all my life, I couldn't imagine living in NY. It's too many people and I love living in the country surrounded by fields and woods
Believe it or not the Bronx has more parks than any other borough of NYC. In fact it is also quite hilly and historic. All the congestion keeps the vibe fresh and alive. I guess it's just in the blood.
The country and woods is great but if you have interests more than rural things, NYC area is the best place in America. For example if you’re into museums, concerts, insane selection of foods around the world, attending multiple sports events, all kinds of live entertainment, cultural events, etc…..it beats the south hands down. You can still live in a suburb about an hour or 2 away too. You don’t have to live in the city too.
I love looking at video like this but my attention be more on the people other then the things or the place it's being recorded at, cuz..regardless of what I might think about it.. It's those people home, some have been born and raised there and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.. It's home for them, and I love seeing people just living there life's and being people🥰 so..thanks for sharing 👍...it's a beautiful thing to watch..people.."just being people"☺
I'm across the park from Fordham Road! And I sometimes walk to go get my mother's medicine from Walgreens on the Southeast corner of Webster Avenue and East Fordham Road in The Bronx, on a sunny day! But if the weather is wet and rainy, I'll take the Bx12 Select Bus Service!
Really glad I come across this channel, the bronx is somewhere I’ve always wanted to go , as a kid growing up in Liverpool, i used to watch images and it just reminded me of what we was going through at the time , poor housing, no career opportunities, dereliction, kids playing on burnt out cars everyone struggling , all my influences too come from the bronx ( New York) but all the positive stuff, early hip hop talked about the struggles and sent messages to warn us of the dangers of going down dark paths , the fashion and of course Breakdancing, again designed to prevent gangs fighting each other and all the other sub cultures that come from it ( graffiti murals the best ) but both sets of people from the Bronx and Liverpool strong and resilient onwards and upwards , god bless the Bronx 🙏🏻❤️❤️
you are clueless and would not last 1 day living da Bronx , notice that those people are not born in the da Bronx and speak foreign languages and thats because those that could left AND THOSE THAT CANT DIE THERE!!!!
I was born and raised in the Bronx for 30 years and I hated every minute of it. I’ve been so much happier since I moved to Queens. However, I will admit one of the things I do miss about the Bronx is the convenience of Fordham Road. Some of the locations in this video brought back memories.
@@M45N Mutiple reasons. For security matter as you put it is one. Also, it’s dirty. It stinks. The people are entitled assholes. The buildings and neighborhoods are falling apart and are not maintained. It’s not pretty to look at. The borough itself has a bad reputation. If I was ranking the five boroughs in terms of what it’s like to live there the Bronx would be on the bottom of my list.
@@Helmuesi911 These past few months I have been seriously considering taking my family and moving out of NYC. I’m looking at anywhere right now. Haven’t narrowed it down to one place. I just know that I don’t want to live in NYC anymore. It’s gotten too damn expensive to live here. The cost of living has gone up dramatically and very soon no native New Yorkers will be able to live here anymore unless you’re making crazy money. I will do some research on the areas you mentioned.
Originally from Brooklyn East New York. But lived there on 193rd and the grand concourse for many years. I remember Caldor on the corner. Po park in the summer. I was born and raised in the South Bronx. Fordham was the big shopping area for my family.

Thank you for sharing your story and thank you for your service to the country.
When people ask am I afraid to travel to Africa alone I answer: I walked these streets alone day and night for over 40 years.
That's dope that you feel that way but Americans need to stop saying Africa as if its a country like their isn't 54 countries in the African continent
Why would you be afraid of travel to Africa? Africa is a big continent, each country different than the other...
@mrn13 a lot of people in America and a lot of other countries have negative preconceptions of the whole continent of Africa because of the media and lack of positive representation same thing they has done with the countries in the middle east

Cool place and clean too!
Good to see stores open and a lot of people. Here in Pittsburgh, downtown Pittsburgh is almost deserted! No people and every other store is boarded up.
Move to NYC, for 3k a month you can rent a cardboard box
What I like about America is the large, wide sidewalks and roads
As a Vietnamese immigrant, my family moved to this areas in late 80’s and live there for about 10 years or so before we moved out
