WEIGHT CAPACITY:
NoGround adjustable poles have passed a 24 hour static 287# hammock load, and multiple nights with a 140# hammocker. In both situations the pole felt very solid. Because of variations in ground quality and geometric set-up there is NO guarantee of weight capacity. Use the system at weights greater that 220# with caution. As with all hammock related activities - Hang or use at your own risk.
Ground anchor suggestions:
Variabilities with soils and ground conditions make this the most problematic task. Not all methods will work in all places. There may be situations where none of the suggestions work. As with anything hammocky, test first, then hang at your own risk.
In almost all situations you will need two ground anchors per pole for stability.
Natural objects: Anything that is firmly in place and you can attach a rope to can be your anchor. Small boulders, trees too far away or too small for a traditional use, cracks in rocks, logs, etc. can make excellent anchors.
Guylines:
Use only guylines that are capable of fully supporting your hammock. I use 7/64 amsteel. Each guyline should be a minimum of 7-1/2 feet long (this ensures a 45 degree or less angle with the ground). Longer is better. The shallower the guyline-to-ground angle is, the less force the stakes have to hold and the better holding power they have. Spread the guyline anchor points about 5 feet apart or between 60 to 30 degrees apart. The farther apart the anchors are the more laterally stable the system will be.
Other notes:
If the ground is soft, or if you need a little extra pole height, put a stable object under the foot of the NoGround pole. This can keep the tip from sinking in, or can increase the effective height without sacrificing pole strength.
Truss line adjustments:
Each truss line has a small whoopie loop at the end for adjustments to each truss line. Adjustments are made without tension on the line. The small line stops to keep the truss end caps in position will slide (with force) if they need repositioning. - Розваги
Crazy! That idea was a long time in coming and so well engineered. I am impressed.
A good option for sure.
excellent Shug....opens up many more places to hang...cool
That is pretty cool!!
Thanks for the video.. interested in seeing more down the road.
Could be handy on a group hang when the good spots get taken.
Looks like a great idea. I'll watch your long term review with interest. Love the channel Shug. Slainte
Yessir and thankee.
Well looks a lot more sturdy than i thought it would be. So far so good, look forward to the no tree setup :)
Yessir.
Oh man in my area this is perfect! I am headed over to. Buy a set! Great demo!
The multi-use aspect is real nice.
Very interesting... this would give the capability to hammock camp above treeline in the beautiful alpine tundra, which is one aspect that has kept me ground dwelling here in Colorado. Thanks for sharing!
Could be handy on a group hang when the good spots get taken.
Man that looks fun. Like come out to the woods and build a trapeze kind of fun.
I'm going to stick with setting up between trees, but I'm glad this exists...
Over and out!
Be good for some bluegrass festivals where I can get to only one tree. Campgrounds too.
love this guy. so fun to watch. great to see a like minded soul enjoying the outdoors too. here in England with my son Tom we love being out walking & camping in the Yorkshire dales & the lake district too. keep up the good work Shug we can't get enough ⛺ ✌
The Yorkshire dales sound nice with some Yorkshire pudding......
Ha yeah tho you wouldn't want too much Yorkshire pudding BEFORE a walk ! It's great watching your vids & would bet you'd also enjoy our West Highland Way in bonny Scotland. PS keep it up Shug you lighten up the day 😁
I guess I'd need four of these so me and my three sons could hang on the trees in my front yard. Two pair trees! 😀 Nice piece of gear.
You could hang them off one tree with 4 I bet!
I plan on making my own little review video shug - but I got from Cheryl the NoGround car camp model and plan. To use it for kayak camping and I LOVE it!!!
My back yard solid is very hard and I have not yet bothered with redundancy in the stakes...actually getting those spikes out is hard at times lol - I'll link to my video once I make it this week - I bought two poles
Going to give it a try for motorcycle and car camping. Thanks!
I do this same trick lashing my two hiking poles together in an (handles up) inverted V shape. In addition to the guy out, I use some cordage to keep the downward portion of the poles from spreading. It forms a nifty triangle that is very sturdy IF you use poles of the lesser-flexing variety. NOTE: You do have to hang closer to the ground due to the hiking poles being shorter, even if you use longer poles such as the Leki Sherpa 145cm adjustable. It works in a pinch but is not viable substitute for a tree due to the fiddling and cursing involved. The system shown here seem a better method to use on a regular basis. Thanks Shug!
Cool product thanks for sharing.
Y'ecome and it is just a good option. I like multi-function.
Cool product, I like the part where you say, does that makes sense to you? Not all of you... It wasn't that long ago when I had no clue... Now I know enough to know I am buying my next underquilt!!!! Was out camping last night, 39, and I FROZE!!!! I thought of you and your frozen but hang. I am so proud of you peeps hanging out at -30!?! I have no idea what that feels like. Cheers.
All about good gear!
Scandinavians use a sheep or reindeer hide instead of a pad or quilt (or so I’m told)...
I’m looking at getting one.
Your tool your choice, but now you know you have a choice.
Quite handy!! I have demonstrated this idea to people using a big stick, but never really tried to sleep in it that way yet. hehehhe
Many ways to do it but this is just a different one and multi-funtional.
I look at this curious pole/multi cordage/multi anchor contraption with a wary eye especially where my "rigging" skills are called into play. After my zip line occurrence that technically "could have" happened to anyone I was grounded by my relatives. Now I have to content myself with new ways of hammocking. My latest rendition looks like Moe, Shemp & Larry might have collaborated without forming a consensus but it is extremely comfortable & functional. Due to its rigging complexity multiple drip lines are employed; Shug, thanks for the excellent video on drip lines, it helped a lot. The video you made about using Reflectix was a pearl of wisdom. I have cobbled together full cover "cozies", top & bottom, for my 400ml, 500ml, & 750ml stainless steel mugs w/lids. Since the occurrence my bilateral hand strength has diminished somewhat so I have to use "resilient" metal utensils that don't dent readily. I also use a sheet of Reflectix 2 feet wide X 7-1/2 feet long sandwiched between my 2 Brazilian woven cotton hammocks to keep my derrier comfortable. I also use an excellent 3rd party(Live Infinitely) 11 foot X 5 foot bug net since one hammock is 12 feet long; A thing of beauty this is not, but very functional. Due to the hammock's wingspread I turned my 10 x 12 camo tarp on the diagonal to yield a hypotenuse of 15.6 feet. I know you like to use Dyneema(Spectra) line for its "no stretch" in your rigging but I find the small caliber challenging for my fingers to hold & manipulate (I'm an older geezer) so I got some good quality reflective 550 paracord for non structural support like main hammock ridgeline & tarp full ridgeline. For main/2ndary hammock support multi-loop webbing straps with 12kn caribiners are utilized. Btw, I'm in the running for the Rube Goldberg multi-functional design award. I have fabricated my ridgeline storage pockets from Valdalia onion mesh bags & heavy duty helicopter rotor balancing tape, this feature alone "caught the eye" of & impressed the Goldberg committee. Do you have a website or an email address where I might send a picture or 2 of my "magnificent hammocking" collaboration? I'm often laughed or snickered at but I figure dem folks are jest envious.
Good intel! Thankee. Best to just put links to pix and stuff on here.
Interesting concept there Shug. Hope it doesn't let you down out in the wilds. ATB.
Time will tell......
Very cool. Thanks Shug
Thankee.
I think I'm going to pick up a set. Hiking poles, spreader bars, and potential tree replacement all in one. Seems well worth the cost and weight penalty .
That's absolutely awesome
It is a good option to have.
nice work bro
Thankee.
Very Cool!
::::...)
Its all very interesting. I'm currently bidding on ebay for my first hammock that I''m hoping to use inside my van, after trying a hammock at a tourist spot, (the best 10 minute nap I've had in years),Its interesting that you think your heavy. After diet and exercise I've dropped down to 107kg, I've done so, to enable me to learn to kayak and try things like hammocks while camping. Thank you for showing alternatives to normal attaching points, this is something I've been thinking about for a while.
Glad it is helpful. I really like their Tensa 4 stand....www.tensaoutdoor.com/product/tensa4-hammock-stand/
This looks very similar to what was known over this side of the pond as the handy hammock? Two of these and you don't need trees! Great for hill tops and above the tree line :)
The difference is this set can be used as hiking poles and bridge hammock spreader bars. Handy hammock could not. But otherwise somewhat similar.
very interesting
pretty cool man.
I like the multi-function aspect.
Hmmmm very interesting Mr Shug. look forward to some updates with that one. I would like to see two of those in action to see if it were feasible. thanks, regards Maff
'Tis feasable...check her photos and videos....facebook.com/Cheryl-Mitchell-TiggzCraftworkz-224489757564144/photos?ref=page_internal
Thanks Shug just watched one of her vids and I see two work perfectly fine, that opens things up a little for me.. thanks again
Awesome!!
Thankee. It is an awesome option.
How clever!
Aye~~!!~~
hey Shug, been toying with something like that myself, but more crude, anywho, you talk about needing 12ft of distance, so, quick measure, if the pole is 6ft tall, lay it out twice on the ground and you'll be close to your 12ft. kinda what I came up with my set up. oh, and keep the vids coming!! long live sector seven!!
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Its not that I don't appreciate technology but..... I do miss the simplicity of the days when you had 2 choices of fly line - sinking or floating or when you bought shotgun shells the hardware store guy only asked guage and shot size. Maybe I'll stick with 2 straps and my hammock and if there is only one tree, well, hammocks can be ground cloths. Thanks though Shug! Oh, heard a story the other day and immediately thought of you. If you are ever attacked by a group of clowns - go for the juggler! :D (it was new to me) BRING ON THE HICKERY BROTHERS!
It is not for everybody........but is an option. Reckon I acept technology to a point, if it helps me be in my hammock not on my hammock.
i would love two of these for my hammock in my back field or when i go to certain places with friends car camping. for backpacking i don't think i could handle the weight with my bad back i am limited.
Multifuntional so not too heavy if you relly want to sleep in hammock.
cool system. would be great out west where trees are scarce
If you are dead set on using a hammock for sure.
Funny the things you can do with a stick and some line.Thanks. ZZ.
True.
I want this. I think all the guylines look cool. I think it could help standardize your set up instead of readjusting to different trees everytime. Plus it has other functions.
Not used mine in the field yet but know I will sometime.
Hmmm ... interesting piece of kit
A bit of kit it be for sure....
I can't wait to gear what you think about it when you take in on a trip! I've been looking for something like this for a while
Could be handy on a group hang when the good spots get taken.
totally! or an open meadow like you talked about in the video. sooo many possibilities!
great video !!!!! i have a set of whoopie slings i made for when the trees are way to far apart ... i made it from a 3/32 5400lb atv amsteel winch line .. imma fatass 220 and don't like to go boom hehehe
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Interesting shug
Yessir...good to have options.
Impressive and strong but enough about me, thats a cool bit of kit and no bend under strain whats the weight.
DD Hammocks are selling an ultralite version of this now called the 'Ultralite Hammock stand'. Whole kit ( both poles and all required ) weighs just over 1Kg. Sells at this time ( 26/12/2016) £117 /$143. I'm not sponsored by/work for DD etc etc, just struggled to find this. Hope you don't mind me mentioning it Shug, just I had helluva time finding this, well, a very VERY similar thing.
Kindest regards

But...can't use them as hiking poles or bridge spreaders can you?
shugemery very true brother....very true!

Thats awsome me want.
Me got!
I think traveling to Mars is less complicated than this. Talk about taking the fun out of camping. Wow all clear in sector 7 lol.
Just an option. Mars ain't.
Thanks Mr. Shug. Always look forward to these. Any chance we will see the M/K this season?
Always a possibility.
Brilliant! Thank you Shug for showing this. I live out West (Utah), and this could definitely be the answer to some of my 'tree challenged' hammock hangs. I will be checking your links for sure.
Could be the answer for some folks for sure.
Curious, have you ever considered camping overnight in a portaledge?
Nah. Don't own one anyways. I never seem to end up on a cliff face.
This is crazy Shug. Are we living in the future, or what? Fun aside, this is quite nice engineering with the 3 small perpendicular supportbeams.
The future is here.
Hey Shug this question doesn't have to do with this video but how the heck do you fit everything for a couple days into your ULA ohm.
Thanks for all your videos.
no problem! it even fits in me cdt! less is more! more or less...
Here are several videos on that.....ua-cam.com/play/PL0514EDB1F6389FA6.html
I don't hammock but that looks like a neat device.
Larry..you have to at least try hammocking once... all those hours bending over the trailer, the hammock will take those back pains away. ; )
I'm a side sleeper. I've never been able to sleep on my back.
I sleep in a hammock and I'm a side sleeper too. Just gotta get the right hammock, and you'll side sleep like a baby. I do.
You can learn...just injure your shoulders or strain your lower back. Also remember that once you are all comfy with a sideways lie in your long and wide hammock, you can sply this way and that, as well as use a modified side sleep position. I suggest you get a basic 11 foot hammock from Dutchware, Simply light or other cottage manufacturer and give it a try!
Many side sleep in hammocks.
I think it would be super funny to film Kent trying to put this contraption together. I get the feeling Kent ain't no rocket scientist lol.
Shug rocking ultra boosts?! nice!!
Most comfy shoes EVER. Wore them all Summer except on stage.
sneak peak of a trip coming up!
Could be.....
One day i'm gonna make a system of pipe or rod that comes with different hubs, and strings to put it under tension. They can be put together to make trekking poles, backpack frame, snowshoes, fishing rod, ladder, and hammock suspension.
How I'm interested in using an emergency Mylar tube tent, to hang my hammock in, maybe in cooler weather. What do you think?
I have heard of it done. You'll just have to try I reckon.
I was wondering if you've had any more experience with the NoGround Hiking Pole. I planning a bike ride (NJ to Seattle) but was planning to bring a tent due to scarcity of trees in North Dakota, eastern Montana. This looks intriguing but I wonder how well it will hold up for 2 months. My trip is in June/July, so I don't have much time to experiment with new gear.
I have not taken them out much but I think they would hold up if used correctly.
Thanks for your input and the video and ALL your videos! I've been section-hiking the AT. You are a friend to all the fellow hammock hangers I've met.
Cool to hear all that!
Multi functional. hiking pole(s), hang your hammock or tarp, and can be used as a clothesline. I'm sure there are plenty more things you can use it for but the hamster fell off it's wheel.
can pluck it like a bass....
hahah very true.
So I stumbled across the noground thing and thought, "oh man, this looks neat, I wonder if anyone's done a review?" shockingly there's a Shug vid
I do have a question tho, or perhaps a request; would it work with your Amok? would you be willing to check?
I do not think this one would work. Too low. Maybe her car camping model would but I do not have that one. Check her site. Link below my video.
Can it be used as a radio antenna or a lightning rod
or bow and arrow.
Hey Shug, another quality post! Love your work. Any word on price for this tech?

@@shugemery Thank you!
wouldn't it be better on the pole to have it angled into the hammock that way reducing flex stress on the pole and directing most of the stress axially down the pole where it is strongest, it would also take some of the tension out of the guyline meaning you would not need such heavy/big pegs. I know this isn't your design Shug, but I am hoping the makers see the comment. Just an idea. I'm thinking one pole almost in-line with the hammock then two guyline shooting out behind away from the hammock at about 90° for stability.
Could be. I did angle them but could do more I guess. Still...quite a bit of force hanging.
very like the old handy hammock design. (not sure they are still being made as the website is down.
i Cryostorm This looks like an almost exact copy of the handy hammock system except taller. I'm surprised there's no patent issues.
The Handy Hammock was a not a hiking pole and bridge spreaders too but that is between them.
The Handy Hammock was a not a hiking pole and bridge spreaders too as far as I know.
i Cryostorm
The have an other company taking over production.
I have a set and its great.
Shug you are correct. Not a hiking pole or spreader bar.
i Cryostorm dd hammocks now sell the handy hammock
Hey shug hows it going hope all going good ! Hey how well do the no ground poles work as trekking poles ? Compare to regular trekking poles ???
They do pretty good as hiking poles considering what else they do.
Thanks and they can be used as fly poles too ???
Yes for sure.
It's probably easier to fly into space...
Yes. That would be easier.
he he!
Is this supposed to be a replacement for the handyhammock stand
No. I has multi funtion used that the HH did/does not. It acts as a hiking pole and bridge hammock spreader bars too. I like that.
Shug, I feel like you've answered this before but where does "All secure in sector seven" come from?
Just came out of mr gob one day. Maybe from Buzz Lightyear some say.
Shug, this is simply...revolutionary. Love. Also, I'm wondering what your stance is on the killer clown phenomenon? I once made the mistake of wearing clown make up in public in Japan and terrifying a small child by complete accident. What is the clown ethic as regards this?
Media hype. Slow news day.
Savvy!
Could be handy on a group hang when the good spots get taken.
This video is a couple years old now, just wondering if this is something you have used or put off to the side? Would like to see an updated video on these. Would these be decent trekking poles or not?
I never really used it out backpacking yet but it is a pretty good hiking pole.
common Shug, 2 years!!! LOL
There is a place I may need is someday but not had a trip back that way. I tend to go where I know there are trees.
@@shugemery its been another 2 years, have you tried this system out anymore in the wild or any other new system?
@@ChantelleDinkel I have not. Never really needed to. May use the Tensa Solo instead. www.tensaoutdoor.com/product-category/tensasolo/?v=7516fd43adaa
Now there is NO excuse for a tent! Why be with the Flat-Landers when you can hang with the Hill-Folks! YeeHa! Cue the banjo...
Just another option....
Richard Flaherty I know I won't be sleeping on the ground anymore! After this last uncomfortable trip in a tiny tent there's no way. Mr. Shug has me convinced!
Are these still available for sale. I could not get the link to open?

Hey shug, how about another barbecue video b4 the summers over
If I do I will.
Shrug
How goes the testing? Any long term thoughts?
It is a viable system. Carried it once on a trip but did not use it as I had proper trees. That is all I got for you.
shugemery
Awesome. I’ll keep watching for more use of it. I bought 2 sets. One for gathered the other for my ridge runner. Awesome video as always. I like the suspension series! Take care my friend I’m a long time subscriber!👍
Poor Shug! So poor he can only afford one tree! Perfect rig for hammock camping in the Nebraska State Forest.
They do work. She has a car camp model too.
Cheryl, you need to find an additional market outlet so the facebook boycotters and others will have a way to purchase.
She is just in her humble beginnings.
That is a whole lot of staking out... I would say the stakes were pretty high on this video Shug.
Good one!
What kind of newfangled contraption is that? Looks serious.
Well...you'll see.....
I sure could've used that this past Saturday at the wide open ground with lots of tall trees by the Cross River instead of cowboy camping...
I have camped on the Cross River many times in my hammock...right off the SHT. Tons of trees.
That's where I was, right by the bridge and between two occupied sites. Got in around 8pm - very dark - and didn't want to even check the ledge & falls sites...too tired after unusually long 17 mile day. Next morning I was hoping to sight a wolf (like you did!) while hiking south along the river. Man, that is a fantastic stretch of trail in the morning!
when we've got only one tree left to hang or hammocks from, I'm departing this world!
Could be handy on a group hang when the good spots get taken.
Went to her facebook watched all of her videos on the trek pole and ask for ordering information, this is an answer I am looking for in my backyard lab, I nor my wife like me hanging from a back porch post, don't want or need more clutter or something I can only use for 1 thing.
Isn't an axe more worth in weight?
I like my hiking poles. See no need to carry an axe or even hatchet.
I think you’re Dewey Crowe’s cousin. But much smarter.
There is a lot of names for the lark’s head hitch. Also called a luggage hitch.
He plays a good Charlie Manson!
Shug thanks for putting this together. I'd be interested to see the pole perform as a trekking pole. Just to judge if it's worth leaving my Black Diamonds at home and taking those if I know there's going to be a scarcity of trees where I'm headed.
Did you say TiggerzCraftWorkz invented these? They look awfully similar to the Handy Hammock stand that came out in the UK a few years ago: ua-cam.com/video/qE_Yept6bVQ/v-deo.html
As far as I know Handy Hammock did not function as a hiking pole and bridge spreaders so somewhat different. HH are not available too.
I use mine as a pole on my last trip and it was study and better than I thought it would be. Did miss the carbide tip of my Black diamonds but the rubber know did well.
Awesome, that’s all good info Shug, thnx!

From one well grown out American to another, You’re welcome.
Way too complicated. Just hike until you drop, wrap up in the hammock on the ground and forget about it.
It kinda is....I agree. But a cool idea.
@@shugemery Shug! You are my circus born hero and a brother from another mother. Been wanting to ask you, off topic, you being a professional acrobat and a balance oriented, hand eye specialist, what did you think of Jean-Claude Van-Damme in that Volvo truck commercial? Doing the split on the rear view mirrors. Seriously, I thought if this is real it is astounding. You have seen a lot in the course of your career. Both in what you are capable of and in colleagues who can do amazing feats of physical precision. How does what he did in that commercial rate? I think it is amazing and your opinion would put it into better perspective since I cant even come close to that kind of concentration and agility.
