Ewan McGregor is back in the title role of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Disney newest Star Wars creation. Sadly, Lucasfilm has decided to give Obi-Wan Kenobi the same outline they used for Luke Skywalker. Depressed ex-Jedi who doesn’t resemble the once great character. Lucasfilm not only doesn’t understand the Jedi. They hate them. Episode 1 completely damages George Lucas’ Star Wars!

Are Lucaasfilm ever going to stop destroying the Original Trilogy? And, why do they hate the Jedi so much? We may never get those answers. But what did you think of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show? And of course, if you enjoyed the video (how could you not) hit the “Like”. Subscribing and sharing the video is always a big help. And of course the bell. Cheers!

I recently read that Grey DeLisle got the part as Azula’s voice actor in “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” because while the other auditioning actors were screaming the role’s lines, she understood that a character that powerful had _no need to raise her voice._ (Mark Hamill played Azula’s father.) No one in the show ever has to tell you that this 14-year-old girl is one of her world’s most powerful warriors or most intelligent strategists. She doesn’t have to shout to make anyone follow orders. DeLisle’s acting makes it believable. She only starts screaming when she’s falling apart.
Anyways, Netflix is going to ruin one of my favorite characters just like Disney is doing in the Star Wars franchise.

This was the perfect opportunity by Disney to dissect what it means to be a jedi, because Obi-wan was THE quintessential Jedi throughout the prequels. He's the pure form of the ideal jedi who understands the greater good, and it's alright to be torn apart by guilt but this guy... is kind of just a broken loser. He doesn't behave in a way thats in character to everything we knew about Obi-wan up until this point.
Also side note I love how sometimes it seems like less of the characters speaking and more of the message disney is trying to push on the nose. The "She's just as important as he is" is so silly, even if the scene were to make sense a distraught set of parents would do more than leverage someones love for another child while pleading to save theirs.

Had to reply. "Obi-wan was THE quintessential Jedi throughout the prequels" - What? Are you as insane as the Disney writers for Star Wars? Clearly you missed the approximately 50 (literally) instances in the prequels that proved beyond any doubt that Obi-Wan was a dipshit failure of a jedi including, but not limited to - oh no, not on your life! - him actually admitting to having failed (more than once, no less). Please - I implore you - explain to me how Obi-Wan saying to Anakin "Never lose your lightsabre, it is your LIFE" and promptly losing his lightsabre, fits in with your belief that he's the quintessential jedi. Were all the jedi doing this? Were there lessons on how to lose your lightsabre that all jedi had to excel at before they were knighted? if not, then Obi-Wan isn't the quintessential jedi. Speaking of being 'knighted', he didn't even face the Trials that are traditional for all jedi-to-be.
How about when Yoda casually ordered Obi-Wan to bring in Jango Fett for questioning. You can go back and check the scene if you doubt me but Yoda and Windu didn't look dubiously at one another and then ask if Obi-Wan could manage the job. No, they hold to the maxim that the jedi DO or Do NOT, remember? So Yoda simply said, 'Bring him in' because they considered him a jedi and jedi can be trusted to do what they are tasked to do. You did see this bit, yes? So how come you failed to appreciate how much Obi-Wan left to be desired of a jedi when he promptly went into an embarrassing struggle with Fett that included him again 'hinting' to the audience that he was cocking it all up when he said, "Oh no" before before dragged off the platform after kicking Fett off it while attached to him. To be fair, the sequences were visually stunning and exciting but all told, Obi-Wan ended up defeated by Fett and offered up as monster food in an arena alongside Anakin. One of the principle points of the entire Star wars saga (by George Lucas as opposed to the Disney shite) was that Anakin should never have been trained, and how it all went wrong under Obi-Wan.
Don't take my comment too hard though. I can't say I've ever come across a single Star Wars fan who thought any differently about Obi-Wan as you.

Light is when the force gets to act naturally and be on its own, only flowing through a good jedi like a cable or conduit. Dark is when a force user corrupts, perverts, and twists the force for their own ends.
The message of Star Wars is that there is NO situation in which pursuing a Dark path will ever leave you personally uncorrupted. The use of absolute power to get what you want, coupled with it *working,* will always make you want to do it again, and again, and again, until that's all you do.
Conversely, altruism (the natural existence and balance of the force) will literally never not make you a better person as a result of committing it, as there is very often much less, if any, personal benefit to being altruistic.
It is the difference between pleasure and joy. Pleasure you take for yourself, it exists in the moment, and it goes away, making you want to take it for yourself again. Joy lasts forever, and it is only a thing that can be shared with others, never taken from them.

I’m absolutely disgusted with how Disney represents “broken” characters in Star Wars. First it was Luke, who hid away with full knowledge that his sister would need him to help the resistance, it only made Luke a pathetic coward. And now it’s Obi wan, his character was always meant to be one of the old, stoic crusader. He felt haunted and blamed himself for the past but he consistently never stopped training or preparing, as Luke is the only true chance of defeating the emperor and Vader. Obi wan has to be at the top of his game for the sake of the galaxy and for the son of the man he failed to save. Kenobi is a general and war hero, took on multiple sith, he’s so brilliant that he was known as the “negotiator” and was one of the greatest duellists in the order. It’s character destroying that none of those aspects are shown in the Kenobi show, only to have him be an unreliable fool who slips up 2 minutes after lying and can barely use the force

I agree he should be combat training, in the comics obi-wan trained against sand-people in the desert to keep his skills up. he clearly has had practise with a blaster, he's shooting more accurately than crosshair (exaggeration) so there's that... but the lightsaber is too obvious a weapon for him to use it sticks out like a sore thumb, and I thought it was really weird when he just had it on his belt showing it off so carelessly to the dock workers when he left tattooine....

I walked away from this dumpster fire after The Force Awakens. When Leia hugged Rey instead of Chewie I knew everything I needed to know about Disney. And yes, Jar Jar Abrams said it was a mistake, but that's a lie, that was deliberate, just look at the way the scene was shot. They tore down the EU, dismantled Lucasarts, and took away the comic rights from Dark Horse and gave them back to Marvel. Lucas sold his company to Disney to protect his company and his workers...how many of the original workers are even still there? The Force Awakens was the last Star Wars movie I saw in the theatre, and Rogue One was the first movie I didn't see in the theatre and the last movie I would watch at all. I give Disney nothing and mostly tune in just to confirm that their still following the direction that I anticipated they would...and they still are. I feel for the fans more than anything. I didn’t see how bad Force Awakens was until I watched Rogue One, and rewatched the unedited original trilogy. Most people would argue that any reasonably intelligent person would figure out this connection and realize they are the same person. Or would assume that child Leia after getting home from her abduction would ask her father about this man he sent to rescue her and she formed a bond with.
But these people don't. They also don't question how come Luke turns up at Leia's cell and tells her he is there to resuce her, has her R2 unit and is there with Ben Kenobi and she doesn't question how that could be, given the fact that she sent her droid to enlist the help of Obi Wan Kenobi. Reeva explicitly hates Vader for killing her fellow Younglings in the Temple Purge, and now he's just stabbed her and left her to die. She's got more than enough reason to hate him enough that that lightsaber impalement won't kill her, even though it REALLY should.
They showed Reeva finding Obi-Wan's holo-communicator and getting the message Bail Organa sent him, meaning that she now knows about Luke and part of the drama for the final episode is likely gonna be her hunting him.
Why bother showing that if Reeva's just gonna die from her injuries with no one else around? The Rebels have all fled and the Empire has withdrawn, no one else is there to find that communicator, learn about Luke and potentially create final episode drama out of it other than Reeva.

There's a genuine potential in Obi-Wan, that's the part that hurts me the most. The bigger overarching plot isn't what bothers the shit out of me. Leia gets kidnapped, Obi-Wan has to save her, etc. We know that Obi-Wan knows who Leia is in Episode 4 when watching the message and he chooses not to tell Luke. But that "contradiction" can be easily overlooked partly because Obu-Wan and Leia don't meet aboard the Death Star before he dies, so there isn't the opportunity for recognition. Maybe he goes by another alias when rescuing Leia or just goes by "Ben" with no last name, and only afterwards does she get told his whole story and realises how important he was to her and her brother. So then she names her son after him. Much as I hate the sequels, it would at least have been an ATTEMPT at continuity between the three trilogies. But Disney sucks at this SO BAD, they can't bother to pay attention to these things at all. And Obi-Wan dueling Vader before Epidode 4? Fuck you, that invalidates everything about their confrontation aboard the Death Star. There is NOTHING in that conversation that allows room for a duel. "When I left you, I was but a learner. Now I am the master." THEY HAVEN'T MET SINCE MUSTAFAR. FUCK ALL OF THIS GARBAGE.

4:25 The difference is they are not siths. Inquisitors and other dark power force users existed way before Disney bought up SW or Filoni bastardized the Clone Wars. Thing is Palpatine never really kept himself to the rule of two. In canon, he still had his master during the Phantom Menace, while he already trained Maul. It's kinda an external information, but i think Lucas already thought it up, just never showed it in the movies.
So as far as i know, this isn't a problem from the canon's perspective.
In EU, Luke's wife, Mara Jade was an imperial inquisitor before she turned back to the light side.
The Inquisition itself consisted several force sensitive humans, trained by Palpatine or other strong inquisitors to act as his secret police and jedi hunters. The difference was, that Palpatine was careful about teaching them anything more than the basics, since he didn't wanted any inside opposition. This meant, that even there were several of these strong, but untrained dark force users, only Palpatine and Vader had actual Sith knowledge. That's why most of their character dynamics were wrapped around the fact, that Vader always tried to find methods to kill Palpatine and become the master, even training his own group of secret dark force users to match the ones loyal to the Emperor.
This whole stuff is just a huge takeover by Disney.
The Inquisition was meant to be a diverse (by this i mean not the same cut-out bad guy in black armor) group of human (since the Empire was racist back then) force users, consisting jedi-hunter duelists, diplomats, non-combat detectives, etc.
Filoni made them edgelord Power Rangers with fidget spinner lightsabers and this is where we are now.

I honestly don't mind the Inquisitors. As long as we consider the Clone Wars a good addition to the canon Lore (which in my opinion it very much is), then Inquisitors aren't a really new concept. Sith Assassins were common. Ventress and Savage being the ones we see in the series.
And yes, they were students of Tyranus and Maul, but the concept of "Sith Assassin" was very much canon and especially Doku tried to keep his charade up, that Ventress was only an Assassin and that he didn't officially take her as a student. We know this through several interactions between Doku and Sidious, where he makes sure Tyranus is not trying anything funny and that Ventress is a Sith Assassin and nothing more.
So long story short. Inquisitors are not really something that interferes with canon material. If anything it's a rather useful and logical thing to do. Why only use Stormtroopers that only miss to search for Jedi, when you can take the ones willing to switch sides, not teach them anything so they stay weak enough for you to deal with, while still being more of a threat to other force users.
If anything this even builds up on the original movies! The whole idea of the prequels was to show that the Jedi were not all that good. And that most of them were hyppocrits for avoiding the truth of the Sith out of fear. Inquisitors show just how many Jedi were ready to switch sides and carried the dark side within them.

You actually DO see it used throughout the prequels, it's why the Jedi and their counterparts are able to do all the crazy stuff they do. The thing is they aren't using it to its maximum extent usually, because Force Speed doesn't cause you to use any less energy - basically, you're just as exhausted at the end as you would be doing all that stuff without it.
Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan used Force Speed to such a high degree there because it was pretty clear the alternative was unavoidable death. If you use it in, say, a battle, you risk not defeating all your opponents in time and winding up a sitting, exhausted duck when your body's limitations are finally reached.

He is responsible for so many terrible, lore-breaking things that only by comparison to the rest of disney Star Wars his contributions may come up as half-decent.
      Let's see:
      - Resurrecting Darth Maul (why, just why? Also how?)
      - Introducing characters like Ventress that make no sense (rule of two)
      - Turning Force from a mysterious mystic power into basically space magic, capable of weird things, like resurrection or voodoo (the whole nightsisters concept)
      - Creating Jedi characters actively operating during rebellion (Kanan, Ezra)
      - Creating Inquisitors - concept that makes even less sense than Ventress (Vader was supposed to be the Sith hunting down any remnants + the rule of two + order 66)
      - Making Inquisitors fly with their lightsabers
Also in general the Star Wars cartoons are by definition cartoony. They are made to fit the "monster of the week" (or "problem of the week") formula and they are all prequels to the movies. Which means nothing significant can happen in them, all encounters have to be more or less unresolved, the heroes (and main villains) have to always escape, but never accomplish anything major. This all happens in a cartoony, exaggerated way that would be unrealistic in a live action scenario.
... Which wouldn't be that terrible if they were not part of the cannon. But if those cartoons are canonically what actually happened, then anything can happen in this world.
And Obi-Wan is the best example of Filloni's cartoon influence. The screenwriting in this series is completely in line with what you get in Clone Wars or Rebels.
This is the live action Rebels. Leia's wood chase, Obi Wan being rescued from first encounter with Vader, whole Inquisitors base mission - this stuff could easily happen in one of Filloni's cartoons.

I was fine with Obiwan being a hermit, after all, that’s how we found him in ANH. My issue is that he was also a coward, who cut himself off from the force. It’s just weird.
Like, why not have him avoid confrontation simply because his goal of protecting Luke vastly surpasses his Jedi directive to protect the innocent? The whole show could be about him struggling to keep his cover as his resolve is tested again and again, ultimately culminating in him revealing himself, dealing with the threat and any witnesses, and even needing to commit some morally ambiguous acts to tie up loose ends and cover his tracks, causing him to suffer a crisis of character.
The show could be a philosophical meditation on whether or not the ends justify the means, as well as pulling into question how far one can bend the Jedi code while still being a Jedi. There could be temptation of the dark side, remembrances of the clone wars, and how far the Jedi fell in their ideals, while in service of a goal. This could all lead Obiwan to be a wiser Jedi than before. He could even talk to QuiGon about this, arguably the only Jedi prior to Luke to get that right.
There’s just so much missed opportunity here, that’s it’s really just depressing.
