Just wanted to add a note concerning my experience with this: I removed mine from a 2012 Forte LX. I don’t know if there’s less clearance in the 2nd gen vs the 2010 in the video, but I had to remove the throttle body to remove the fan as it was the only thing preventing enough room (throttle body needed a cleaning anyhow). Secondly, for anyone who can’t pry the alternator out, I carefully applied WD40. Work it a little without compromising the housing and pry it down toward the front (as shown in the video). For those who don’t know, the bottom bolt does not go through the housing but is exposed and pushed into a “slot.” This is why you don’t have to remove the bottom bolt (can’t anyway with it being blocked). Therefore, find a fulcrum point to pry the back/bottom toward the front of the car. Lastly, don’t buy another Kia.
Thank you for putting this! Hopefully someone in need will see this and have an easier time. I’ll pin it to the top. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!
Is it easier to remove the alternator after taking the ac compressor out from the bottom or doing it as it is done in the video through removing the radiator
thank you for the video. I did this on my car and it was a real pain in the ass but couldn't have done it without this useful video. You literally saved me hundreds. PS: that alternator was stuck to the engine like the metal fused together, nothing like a long prying tool, WD-40, and mallet to do the trick.
Ya they really did a horrible job on this one. They should have moved the power steering away like most cars and like you said put it on top. But good luck with it. Thanks for watching!
Wow, I figured I’d come back because yours and another UA-camr was a big help in this Kia definitely made it a little harder to get to and yes at the end if needed it might need a little tap to get back into a place but this can be done especially if you follow this method and yes, take the tire offand slowly work the radiator fan out it will be done. It’s a pain but it can be done. If anything do one side you’ll lose fluid that’s OK. Good luck to everyone if anybody comment and thank you too.

I’m beyond far from a mechanic. This job has whooped my ass. I appreciate your video but my lord my wife had to get the bottom bolt. My hands couldn’t fit down there with any tool for sure. Now headed to get a bigger pry bar. My crow bar didn’t budge it. Fingers crossed
Hey I just replied to your other comment. It will clear. It’s the most frustrating part of this job. But if I can do it you can do it. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for responding so quickly. I will give it another go when I get back home to Texas. BTW this video is by far the best on UA-cam for this application.👍👍
The two shouldn’t be related. You did put the serpentine belt back on right? If so I would check and see if your thermostat is sticking. To do this just lightly touch the upper hose to make sure it’s hot. Then go down and lightly touch the bottom hose if it’s not hot then it’s your thermostat. Other than that check your fluids and make sure your not leaking any from your water pump. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Hey I really appreciate it! But I will say if I can do it anyone can. I believe in you and if you ever need help pm me on fb I’ll help you out best I can. Have a good one.
My fan shroud didn't have enough room to just pull out had to remove the front grill and headlights and cross brace bar... Also had to remove the power steering pump.
So all of them are tough to get the fans out but I’d rather spend two minutes fandangling that than removing all the rest of that haha. But glad you got it done. Thanks for watching!
About that bottom. Screw if you remove the tire thre a small splash guard not the big one around the wheel there's a small one hold by three small metal screws you take this one off and give you clear access to that screw
THIS PROCEDURE WORKS FOR HYDRAULIC STEERING ONLY NOT ELECTRIC STEERING EQUIPPED VEHICLES! You MUST remove the motor mount and the cruise control to remove the cooling fan assembly on Electric Steering Equipped Fortes! Also helps to have a buddy with ya!! If not you need a 5 foot long breaker bar to move engine back toward fire wall then cooling fan assembly comes out!
I am about to embark on the replacement of a 2011 Kia Forte sx hatchback alternator. I’m freaking out. The only advantage that I see that I do have is small hands. Do I get a remanufactured alternator with a warranty? My mechanic wants to charge me 4 500+ dollars to replace and I can do it for 270$ maybe best to let mechanic do what they do?
You got this! But yes if you want lifetime warranty grab it at advance auto, it is around 200$. But if you want to go cheaper you can get one online. I usually don’t have problems from them but it can happen. This video should help you out a lot. Two things to remember. One, the radiator fan does take some fandangling to get it to go past the radiator cap. Two ratchet wrenches are your friend on this one. Good luck and let me know how you do! Thanks for watching!
Not gonna lie, I am struggling with the radiator portion. How in the hell did you make that look so easy? I can get it barely half way out... I've been working worth it for the last 3 hours trying to wiggle and fandangle it out and it's just not happening my guy... what witchcraft did you preform???
Honestly that’s the hardest part by far. Take a break and walk away come back with a calm mind and usually that’s all you’ll need. Best of luck. Thanks for watching!
Update. I’m all the way down to the alternator, now that top bolt is too tight for me to get loose also hard to get any more leverage on it no room. Gonna go out and try again in a few 😆😢
Yes all cars have what’s known as a water pump. It’s job is to circulate the coolant through the engine then back through the radiator. If it’s gone bad it will make your car overheat. As for where it is if you go to the front of your motor where the serpentine belt is it will be the pulley closest to the inside of the car. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Yeah if your tensioner slips and goes to fully tight position absolutely impossible to get the belt back on with basic tools to tight for shallow sockets with shallow wrench to tight for flat wrenches I had to pull the fucking passenger motor mount just so I can get a full swing of the tensioner
You just have to make sure the last pulley your putting it on is a flat pulley like an idler pulley. Sounds like a real pain you went through. Thanks for watching!
I did? I showed you you back it out of the threads then it comes out with the alternator. Also no need to take the headlight out decent amount of room but I’m glad it helped you. Have a good one thanks for watching!
Remove serpentine belt. Leave hoses on the power steering pump but remove the 3 12 mm bolts thru the pulley. Gently pry it up and move pump out of the way. Take top 14mm bolt out of alternator. Put jack on oil pan. Remove top part of motor mount only. Let engine down just a little bit to get bottom 14mm bolt out of alternator (it will hit frame of the car and not come out otherwise) gently wiggle and pry alternator out of it's cavity. Remove wire and connector from back of alternator. Now theres no room to get the alternator out. With motor mount still removed you can have someone push the engine towards firewall to make room so you can lift it out of the top. 30 minute job. YOUR Welcome!!
Haha calm down. Every manufacturer winds up engineering a few vehicles with some very poor designs for mechanics to work on. This isn’t the first won’t be the last. Hope you have a good day. Thanks for watching!
I showed you exactly that it would not come out like other bolts. I showed that it has to come out with the alternator. Loosen bolt then pop the bolt and alternator out together. Watch it again and hopefully it help next time. thanks for watching!

Many of my customers want to tell me what they found on UA-cam and it's not that I'm against it it's just I don't have the unlimited hours I would need to go about it the way they do sit back and look at all the videos on how to get something done I do it for a living so time is money and there ain't nothing that ticks me off more than to sit there through a 20 minute video and end up more confusing when I started and doing that three or four times I haven't had a chance to look see what this guy has more videos but if he does you should subscribe to his channel and visit his page often -he deserves the support!
I’m glad my video could help. Sounds like you got a good wife willing to help. Thanks for watching!
The two clips on each side won't clear the radiator cap side or the radiator hose inlet side... Again, please help 🙏
Thanks that means a lot! Good luck I know you’ll get it!
@@lukephillips9079he’s not wrong. My dad and I just went at for two hours and we’re about to give up then we finally got it. Hardest part for sure!
I'm a mechanic by trade. The guys used to make fun of me for using just ask and videos in the90s
Haha it’s crazy I’ll literally get my information anyway I can. UA-cam is literally a wealth of knowledge.
Thanks for the step by step in regular slow speaking English. Thanks.
I’m glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
i have to do this to my daughters car tomorrow in a general dollar parking lot thanks for the video
Ya that’s never fun working in a parking lot. But, with this video you’ll feel confident and knock it out. Good luck. Thanks for watching!
Part number??? And where you got it???
Not sure of the part number. But I picked it up at advance auto. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Man, it is a usefull vídeo, I am from El Salvador
Hey I’m glad I could help. Hello from the US. Thanks for watching!
After putting in the alternator and putting everything back together it is now overheating please help!!!!!
Is this a 2.0 or 2.4 nice video 👍
To be honest I can’t remember. Thanks! Thanks for watching!
Anyone happen to know if I can use a generic alternator? The spec one runs into the hundred$$.
Ya, you can pick one up from local part store for about 120$. Or even Amazon. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
I"m not young or talented enough to do the work, but I'm certainly going to refer whoever I find to this video. Many thanks!
Hey I really appreciate it! But I will say if I can do it anyone can. I believe in you and if you ever need help pm me on fb I’ll help you out best I can. Have a good one.
Super helpful. Thank you very much
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your advice I appreciate what you did!!! Keep it up and keep the videos coming in...
Thank you, Thant means a lot! Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
About that bottom. Screw if you remove the tire thre a small splash guard not the big one around the wheel there's a small one hold by three small metal screws you take this one off and give you clear access to that screw
Someone else had said that too. So this is good info for anyone else doing this. Thanks for watching!
Perfect video , life saver!
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Motor size?
1.6l hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
New follower my brother thank you God Bless
Thank you same to you! Thanks for watching!
I pulled the PS pump and ripped and stuffed the Alt. Now getting the top Alt bolt back in is the challenge.
You got this. But the way I showed I avoided taking the PS pump off to save a little time and frustration. Best of luck. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I thought it was over when that bottom bolt hit the frame.
Haha I’m glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the detailed report of the removal of the generator👍
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
Wish me luck guys. First time on something like this I’m away from home visiting family and alternator went out yesterday. Hell this is gonna suck
You got this! Let us know how it goes. Best of luck. Thanks for watching!
Where is the voltage regulator for these cars?
It’s a part of the alternator itself. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkie like on the back or in the alternator?
Ya
Thank you this video helped me out
I’m glad it was able to help! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video!!! Thanks!
I’m glad it was able to help. Thanks for watching!
You could of ratchet strapped motor backwards and removed done it couple times but this way you normally do it
True not a bad idea. This way Is just the way I do it. But there’s many different ways to do it. Thanks for watching!
Well said. Thanks for watching!
thank you sir. Prodemand just says remove alternator.....
Yup I seen that and all data I’m like well this’ll make a good video haha. Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Great video
Thank you! I’m glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Dude ur awesome 👍😎
Haha thank you! Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
I am about to embark on the replacement of a 2011 Kia Forte sx hatchback alternator. I’m freaking out. The only advantage that I see that I do have is small hands. Do I get a remanufactured alternator with a warranty? My mechanic wants to charge me 4
500+ dollars to replace and I can do it for 270$ maybe best to let mechanic do what they do?
You got this! But yes if you want lifetime warranty grab it at advance auto, it is around 200$. But if you want to go cheaper you can get one online. I usually don’t have problems from them but it can happen. This video should help you out a lot. Two things to remember. One, the radiator fan does take some fandangling to get it to go past the radiator cap. Two ratchet wrenches are your friend on this one. Good luck and let me know how you do! Thanks for watching!
Good video!
Glad you enjoyed it.
I had to remove the Throttle Body on mine in order to remove that fan shroud. It was an ordeal.
Disconnect positive terminal from the battery, too!
Yes you should do that first. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing
I’m glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
Update. I’m all the way down to the alternator, now that top bolt is too tight for me to get loose also hard to get any more leverage on it no room. Gonna go out and try again in a few 😆😢
We still dont get out the fan of radiator
It’s unfortunately the hardest part of the job. Best of luck. Thanks for watching!
Grax por el video bro💪💪
¡en cualquier momento! ¡gracias por ver!
thanks for loadin
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great Intel I have to do Mine now
Glad I could help. Good luck and thanks for watching!
I'm gonna have You right there w Me while doin the job Bro Ty
There's a water pump??😢 Sorry car illiterate can you please tell me where?
Yes all cars have what’s known as a water pump. It’s job is to circulate the coolant through the engine then back through the radiator. If it’s gone bad it will make your car overheat. As for where it is if you go to the front of your motor where the serpentine belt is it will be the pulley closest to the inside of the car. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
good explanation an dvideo
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
U didn't show us how to get to the bottom bolt. Also took the head light out and was much easier to get access to the bolts.
I did? I showed you you back it out of the threads then it comes out with the alternator. Also no need to take the headlight out decent amount of room but I’m glad it helped you. Have a good one thanks for watching!
Good video tkus
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
excellent
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
Just pry it out. Easier said than done 🤦🏽♂️😂😂
Haha just need a little more leverage. Thanks for watching!
Take it off through the headlight
I know a lot of people say that. But really the way I show other than getting the fans out is easier imo. Thanks for watching!
I feel my way is a lot easier than your method, but there’s always more than one way to do something haha. Hope the video helped. Thanks for watching!
@@JunkyardJunkie your way is awesome too!! No right or wrong as long as it's fixed right and nothing gets broke along the way lol.
Oh, my God. It's very difficult to disassemble a generator - sorry from korea
Haha calm down. Every manufacturer winds up engineering a few vehicles with some very poor designs for mechanics to work on. This isn’t the first won’t be the last. Hope you have a good day. Thanks for watching!
Why didn't you just remove the power steering pump 😂 I'll make a video how to do it easier
Have at it hoss. This way is far more efficient and easier in my opinion.
All made no sense about the bottom bolt hitting the wall still can't get it out. Video was worthless
I showed you exactly that it would not come out like other bolts. I showed that it has to come out with the alternator. Loosen bolt then pop the bolt and alternator out together. Watch it again and hopefully it help next time. thanks for watching!
Great video
Thank you, I really appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
