Hi Joshua- I just received my Jumper T16 with the usbc and handle pre installed. I also have the 5000mah aftermarket pack. I just want to makes sure I understand- I can basically use the large pack and not install the barrel plug - charging via usbc is all I need to do.. thanks I’m excited to take one radio to the field instead of 3!!!!

I was questioning if this upgraded board supports *BALANCE CHARGING*. I just got mine and IT DOES. The chip marking says CS5086E and the datasheet should be the first Google result. (UA-cam will not allow me to post a link.) Google translate of the features list (top right block on the first page) lists balance charging. The schema also shows the balance connection and the board has a trace in place. There were also questions about LiPo support - I have seen only LiIon mentioned in the datasheet. But, I would guess that LiPo should be fine. It stops charging at 4.1V/cell and limits the charge current to 1A. So you will not get a full charge, but all values should be well within the safe limits. Hope it helps. Thumbs up maybe? ;-)

I'm hoping you get your hands on the new RadioMaster TX16S for comparison as that's the version I currently keeping in consideration for my next radio (upgrading from the original X-Lite)...
If I read your meter correctly it’s charging at .5 watts? Or is this because your battery is full? I was hoping they would take advantage of usb-c’s higher charge voltage. Nice vid as always btw.
USB-C is a physical interface standard. USB-C supports quick-charging, but so do other physical interfaces. This system does not support quick-charge as far as I know. If you want faster charging, you should install the barrel plug method from RCbatterykit.com.
Hope you feel better soon Joshua! WRT the internal charge mod, well, I ordered one the very same day you came out with that video recommending it and, guess what, it finally arrived today (months later), on the very same day you published this latest video about the MUCH better and officially supported internal charging upgrade from Jumper. I guess the upside is I can use the VERY expensive batteries the “third party” guy sent me (total cost of all the stuff they guy charged me for was $60+ as I recall. ) with the Jumper upgrade. Lesson learned (that I already knew but ignored).... don’t buy third party mods right away. Give the manufacturer some time and they’ll like have something better soon.
Well to be honest, manufacturers usually don't release mods like this. Look at FrSky. You have to buy a whole new radio to get internal charging. Jumper is really going above and beyond here.

flipping the handle round puts it very close to the antennas and risks fucking with the SWR. i will be keeping my metal handle as i need it for clamping things too but i wont be reversing it for the reason mentioned above.
Just a heads up, it doesn't work with the newer Apple USB-C chargers. Otherwise, an awesome upgrade. The folding handle is actually metal and very sturdy as well!
Glad you showed this mod to those who haven’t seen it yet, also that you showed a different way of mounting the handle to make it more compact. I’m just wondering how it goes with the full size crossfire unit in the back, does it squash it or leave a gap? Also keep warm Joshua, so that you get rid of that cold as soon as possible.
The flipped handle doesn't interfere with antenna (at least physically, it probably does interfere with radio waves to some degree) on bigger modules, however if you put the radio on its back it will be leaning on the bottom of the module.

Joshua, have you had any issues with your internal charging? I am ready to make this upgrade but I have read several things, where they have discussed excessive heating and fires.

So on the T18 that already has the usb-C all id have to do is connect the 3 wires from the top pcb and the bottom pcb? Or does this only work because that 21700 mod has an internal charge circuit built into the pack? I have little pcb's for 18650 1-6s charging circuits.. im about to experiment. lol. hopefully not destroy the radio i got in the mail yesterday..
This mod is not required.. Radio comes with 18650 carrier so just use external 18650 charger and keep a couple spare fully charged 18650 in tool kit . I already use 18650 for my goggles because FS also come with 18650 carrier. One solution for all devices using 18650...simple and cheaper..
usb-c chargers come in various wattages. I've personally burnt out a 15w wireless charging pad by accidentally plugging it into a 60w PD Usb-c (no smoking, it just stopped lighting up and working all at once). I wonder what the charging wattage limitations this mod might have to avoid premature failures.
that sound that u heard was normal. almost every device makes it when it charges and since my hearing is super high i hear it on all of them. that one was just a bit lower i guess
Hi Joshua. My new USC-C internal charger module is here and installed. I've noticed that when i plug the radio to a fast charge USB port on my computer, a tiny led shines just beside the USB-C connector of my T16 and button #1 from the 6 button selector keeps on after several cycles of light on the six buttons. Is this the normal behaviour with this charging method ? Is there any indicator when charge is completed ? I mean something like blinking lights, any sound. Thanks in advance.
I asked about this vs the radio master before, but want to add a modifier, Jumper has put out a lot of upgrade modules for the t16, so even if you bought the original, oyu cna upgrade to all the latest features without buying a whole new radio. Do you think that makes it worth spending the extra $$$ over the radiomaser which might not do that.
Hmm let's see. I had to buy the HAL gimbals ($35) + internal TX board ($30) + charging board ($5) = $70 CAD. T16 V1 @ $229, total = $299. What a scam :( I should have waited for the final product
You are adding the mAh together, but that's wrong. When you wire batteries in series, the voltage adds and the mAh stays the same. Two 3000 mAh 18650 in a 2S configuration is 3000 mAh. The 21700 are 5000 mAh per cell. Find me a 50000 mAh 18650 (not a lying fake-spec "5000 mAh" one, but one that actually really tests at 5000 mAh).
@@hateeternalmaver it just seems like a higher quality tx, especially for the price. Although I will say that I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with the qx7 so far
Hi Joshua. I need some help please. I don't get why we have to do all these charging mods. I have a brand new T16s and charged it once through a pc. It occured to me later that a pc will only output 5V which isnt enough. The 59 page manual does not tell us HOW to charge it and with what charging device. I was unaware that this Tx has charging issues. It should ....well..... Just work? Okay moan over. I have a new Imax B6 charger and I can solder things up. Without any further expense to get my new Tx charged, what would you recommend please? Peter
You have a TX16S. This video is for the old original Jumper T16. It's not the same radio. You don't have to mod the TX16S at all :-) Just plug in the bottom USB port to any USB charger and voila you're done.
@@JoshuaBardwell Thanks Joshua for your quick reply. So not a PC? Do USB chargers have different voltage outputs then? I am completely new to USB chargers so pardon my ignorance. Phew....thank goodness I don't have to mod it. And so it should be!!!...I am a grumpy pensioner old Fart. Peter
A PC USB port will always output 5v, and typically 500 mA max. A phone charger may put out 5v @ 1 to 2 amps. Quick-charge capable phone chargers can put out between 5v and 12v. But they should be safe to use with 5v devices because they should never output higher voltage unless the device indicates it can accept it.

how hot does that charging board get when charging? I had the uruav charging board in my x9 lite and removed it because it got super duper hot when charging.
Hi Joshua, I was wondering if you might be able to help! So I did this mod to my T16 but it won't charge, I've tried different plugs and leads but it just doesn't charge. It does connect to the computer though and works perfectly that way but charging is a no no for some reason I can't figure out. I can see the red charge light so it should be working. Any idea?
@@JoshuaBardwell Ah well that's good enough for me to ask for a replacement then I think! I thought that maybe there was a setting somewhere that I hadn't activated or something like that. Thanks for your help :)
It may be just a loose connection, try taking the back off and re-seating the short tiny ribbon cable between the scroll wheel board and the top board. Happened to mine, buttons & scroll wheel stopped working properly, re-seating the ribbon cables fixed it.
Switch the JumperT16 on or off while charging? When switched on, the inactive message constantly comes on. When switched off, the red LED on the USB socket does not light up. Wrong construction?
This Type-C port does not support native Type-C charger (such as PD ones) as it leaves USB-C CC1/CC2 pins floating. I had to add two 51Kohm by myself, very difficult to operate.
@@JoshuaBardwell Wow, hope you're getting better. I meant even safe voltage (5V) on a PD USB-C is not supported on it. I soldered two resistors on CC1/CC2 to fix that. Sorry I don't know how to upload an image here.
@@JoshuaBardwell that's what I was afraid of. I guess I'll have to break out the Dremel. Or hopefully they offer a replacement top piece, though I guess it's not a huge deal.
@Brian Kai Jumper had released the full 3D object of the T16 on their website in x_t format, but since they've moved domains from .xyz to .com it's no longer showing up, but I have a copy of the x_t format file and found a step format which I can can edit, and will be modifying the top plate to accommodate the USB-C socket to then 3D print.
@Brian Kai I've zipped up the original .x_t file, the .step version, and exported just the top plate for the trainer/USB/antenna to .stl, that part still needs modifying which I can't yet do until I receive the USB charging boards to get accurate measurements. haku.co.uk/3D/Jumper_T16_3D_Model.zip (39.6MB) The zip also contains the schematics pdf Jumper used to also have on their website.

Hey I have a problem with my t16 pro. All the buttons don't work and I always get the stuck button message on startup. I cannot change any settings anymore. Any advice ?
Same happened to mine, buttons & scroll wheel stopped working properly & got stuck button error on startup. Solution: open it up and re-seat the tiny ribbon cables that connect the button boards to the top board. And if that doesn't fix it, you may need to re-seat the large ribbon cable that goes between the top & main boards.
Detach the ribbon cable attached to the scroll wheel pcb board. If the key stuck error goes away, then the return button or scroll wheel button may be damaged. A replacement board is needed. I currently have the other side broken (MDL). Jumper just shipped me a replacement board as it is still under warranty. Stay tuned.
Had the same issue on mine and had to re-seat the large ribbon cable between top and main boards as licensetodrive said. On another T16 one of the buttons wasn't working at all and re-seating the cable for that one helped. Looks like these cables/connectors are pretty poor quality which is a shame as I love the radio otherwise.
No. The previous internal charging mod involved a propretary DC adapter and installing a barrel plug. This one allows charging over USB-C which is better.
No. Say it draws 1A from USB to charge the cells, that 1A @5v is the equivalent of 595mA @8.4v (2S charging voltage) With 3000mAh 18650 cells, that's 5 hours charging time from flat. 500mA USB rate would mean 10 hours. Note that these are theoretical charge times since the power loss from voltage conversion isn't taken into account.
@For love FPV When my charging boards arrive I'll be able to do some accurate testing of the USB current and even individual charge rates of the cells - I'm dead curious to see how it copes when one cell is fully charged and the other isn't. The boards were posted from China a week ago, fingers crossed they arrive soon.
The back cover on the jumper is such a p.i.t.a to get off. I have one of those silicone jar opener type things in my bag at all times now! It grips on the plastic and slides off easy as pie now
I'm having an issue where I plug it in to charge and all seems well, then a couple hours later I come back an take off charger and try to boot up and the jumper will not turn on. It seems to think it still has USB connected. I unplug the red yellow black wire running from USB C board and then try to turn it on and it works. If I plug the red yellow black wire back into the board the jumper acts like I just plugged in USB and when I turn off and try to reboot it will not turn on. I am able to still use my Jumper with that wire unplugged, but now I don't have internal charging. Anyone else with similar issue?

I have little pcb's for 18650 1-6s charging circuits.. im about to experiment. lol. hopefully not destroy the radio i got in the mail yesterday..
HAHAHa, when I plug in batteries after making mods, I call it my "Fire Test"
My T16 is arriving soon, what a perfect time for you to release this video! haha, thanks, Joshua!
I used Frsky x9d puls
but l want try this.
Hi Joshua, have you encountered that there would be no response on the computer when plugging in the USB cable after this upgrade? Thanks.
Loving my jumper tx16 pro hall v2
I think we definitely need an official Joshua Bardwell voice pack for opentx though, lol
@Joshua Bardwell think about it !
This mod is not required.. Radio comes with 18650 carrier so just use external 18650 charger and keep a couple spare fully charged 18650 in tool kit . I already use 18650 for my goggles because FS also come with 18650 carrier. One solution for all devices using 18650...simple and cheaper..
Lots of people who have this radio prefer internal charging. It's not required, but it's desired. Anyway, it's up to you if you want to do it.
usb-c chargers come in various wattages.
Joshua, Are you going to be switching to the Radiomaster tx-16s? Or are you going to stick with your t-16
Can't say until I have one in hand.
what solder should i get
I asked about this vs the radio master before, but want to add a modifier, Jumper has put out a lot of upgrade modules for the t16, so even if you bought the original, oyu cna upgrade to all the latest features without buying a whole new radio.
What a scam :(
I should have waited for the final product
@@n8zfpv Just like games sell you DLC, they basically take the full game and take out bits then sell them to you as DLC.
Glad to see the king flu didn't get ya! Keep hydrating, thank you for the video.
hey guys, do you know what settings Joshua used on his charger?
I don't get the 5000mah 21700 battery conversion. Two panasonic 18650s will give you 6800mah in a smaller form factor.
Gotcha. Thanks.
Man, I've only had my qx7 for like half a year but I'm really tempted to ditch it for a jumper...
What, why?!
@@hateeternalmaver it just seems like a higher quality tx, especially for the price. Although I will say that I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with the qx7 so far
@@Lozoot2 Yeah I'm very satisfied with my X7 as well. I could imagine someone choosing a jumper over the X7 for a first but switching seems odd... ,)
How is your health now?
@@JoshuaBardwell
Thanks Joshua for your quick reply.
Great to see a fighter! 👌👌👌😷😷🤒🤒😩😁😁👌👌
I ordered mine from Ali the moment it appeared and not even shipped yet :( (well I got a tracking numbers few days later, but still only "shipment information received".)
Gotta have patience bro with aliexpress. ..gonna sub ya just for your thumbnail lol...love dji FPV
@@flo-ridafpv5713 I know, especially with the new virus etc, but usually Jumper's Ali store is quite quick with shipping. And thx bro, subbed back :)

How much did u pay for ur jumper from aliexpress?
@@seacawk8259 I didn't get my Jumper from Ali, only the upgrade parts. Price fluctuates a bit, you can check the link to the Ali store in video description and see what the current price is.
Can we use this with any 2s transmitter Lipo?
Does the internal charge module charge with quick charge ?
I don't think so.
hey! im just a noobie at drone racing. so if i get esc+ fc stack which esc is rated for 40a x 4, would the amp draw would be 40 or 4x40=160a? please help me.
how hot does that charging board get when charging? I had the uruav charging board in my x9 lite and removed it because it got super duper hot when charging.
Hi Joshua, I was wondering if you might be able to help! So I did this mod to my T16 but it won't charge, I've tried different plugs and leads but it just doesn't charge. It does connect to the computer though and works perfectly that way but charging is a no no for some reason I can't figure out. I can see the red charge light so it should be working. Any idea?
Either the board is damaged and not working (in which case get a replacement) or the wiring is incorrect.
@@JoshuaBardwell Ah well that's good enough for me to ask for a replacement then I think! I thought that maybe there was a setting somewhere that I hadn't activated or something like that. Thanks for your help :)
did you have any problems with your scroll wheel? mine has become unreliable. Can you do a replacement video?
It may be just a loose connection, try taking the back off and re-seating the short tiny ribbon cable between the scroll wheel board and the top board.
Happened to mine, buttons & scroll wheel stopped working properly, re-seating the ribbon cables fixed it.
oh thank you. i will try that 👍
it worked! thanks!
Awesome! :)
Now you know how to fix it and what to tell others who have the same issue.
Switch the JumperT16 on or off while charging? When switched on, the inactive message constantly comes on. When switched off, the red LED on the USB socket does not light up. Wrong construction?
It should not need to be switched on to charge.
Joshua Bardwell Thank‘s a lot
Hey I just bought a th freestyle and a flysky fs-i6x but I can’t get them to bind I’ve watched a lot of vids could you help ?
Is the SIM usb controller functionality still available with new usb-c charge board upgrade?
i checked and sim and microsd card acess is the same
Of course :-)
How long does it take to fully charge with usb type C ??
Basically, like, overnight. It's not very fast.
@@JoshuaBardwell yeah I did buy one and install it already. Thanks. But I need your help with my quadcopter please ,,, İ messed it up. :(
@ 00:04:46 are you supposed to solder negative to negative battery terminal?
Grounds are all bridged together anyway, doesn't matter if you do or don't.
Thumbs Up!
Bardwell Lives!

This Type-C port does not support native Type-C charger (such as PD ones) as it leaves USB-C CC1/CC2 pins floating. I had to add two 51Kohm by myself, very difficult to operate.
It doesn't support PD I don't think. Just regular USB charging.
@@JoshuaBardwell Wow, hope you're getting better. I meant even safe voltage (5V) on a PD USB-C is not supported on it. I soldered two resistors on CC1/CC2 to fix that. Sorry I don't know how to upload an image here.
Why are you not resting?
Like I said, I have some episodes already recorded.
Joshua, Godzilla video out now!!
Will this charge while I’m playing a sim?
It seems to, yes.
Did you have to cut/reshape the opening for the USB port in the antenna housing to accommodate the USB C form factor?
My radio was one of the early ones, and I did have to melt it a little bit with a soldering iron. I hear the newer ones are ready to go.
@@licensetodrive9930 interesting, any chance you could export that to STL and share?
@Brian Kai I've zipped up the original .x_t file, the .step version, and exported just the top plate for the trainer/USB/antenna to .stl, that part still needs modifying which I can't yet do until I receive the USB charging boards to get accurate measurements. haku.co.uk/3D/Jumper_T16_3D_Model.zip (39.6MB)
The zip also contains the schematics pdf Jumper used to also have on their website.
Aren't you supposed to be infirm and abed?? Get thee hence! :-)
This was already finished before I got sick.
@@JoshuaBardwell I know. I saw. I was messing with you about the commenting. But it's like the subscriber said earlier: "Bardwell Lives!" :-) Glad you are at least feeling up to commenting. Get better soon.
I'm guessing checking UA-cam for comments is a welcome distraction from feeling like crud, I had some marathon GTA V Online sessions in the past when I've been ill :)
Thanks for the mention Joshua!, hope you feel better. The new battery (21700 5000 mAh USB-C compatible pack) is $25 plus shipping and is available here"www.rcbatterykit.com/order-a.htm

Grayson hobby has a no solder version for just a couple of bucks more.
A quick check on the web will show why to buy elsewhere!
u and Botgrinder got the corona lol
Is this a repost?
No. The previous internal charging mod involved a propretary DC adapter and installing a barrel plug. This one allows charging over USB-C which is better.
@@JoshuaBardwell oh okay. Thank you!
@@JoshuaBardwell can you figure out a way to use the jumper t16 with the DCL game for xbox one ?
Is it fast to charge like this?
No, it's slow. But whatever.... leave it overnight.
No.
Say it draws 1A from USB to charge the cells, that 1A @5v is the equivalent of 595mA @8.4v (2S charging voltage)
With 3000mAh 18650 cells, that's 5 hours charging time from flat. 500mA USB rate would mean 10 hours.
Note that these are theoretical charge times since the power loss from voltage conversion isn't taken into account.
@@JoshuaBardwell 🤔It's really interesting. 👍It seems that you are right.
@@licensetodrive9930 thank you
@For love FPV When my charging boards arrive I'll be able to do some accurate testing of the USB current and even individual charge rates of the cells - I'm dead curious to see how it copes when one cell is fully charged and the other isn't.
The boards were posted from China a week ago, fingers crossed they arrive soon.
Jumper is now including a note advising users to not charge via usb.
The back cover on the jumper is such a p.i.t.a to get off. I have one of those silicone jar opener type things in my bag at all times now! It grips on the plastic and slides off easy as pie now
And I swear they need to use bigger screws, I replaced mine with hex too M2 screws.
Anyone else with similar issue?
did you figure this out?
Dude i thought you were on death's door and pulling plug for a while ?
I said that I had a few videos already finished that I would release. This is one of them.
Are you still able to update firmware with the new USB-C connection? I assume it does. but just wanted to confirm.. Thanks
Lol UA-cam time is confusing so many people, I'm pretty sure this is a video he had pre-recorded before he said he was going offline, not that he magically fully recovered and recorded and released a video in one day!
hope you feel better soon JB
