At first I wasn't sure why people were saying the GSh-6-23M was so good. I thought "eh what's the deal, it's basically just a Vulcan in a slightly higher caliber", but then I saw it's fire rate...
I wasn't able to squeeze the footage into this review, but I got a couple of really insane clips of vaporizing helicopters and other aircraft with the gunpods. Will make for some good stock footage next time I do a ramble video.
They removed the other gunpowder with targeting. The ones in the video never had targeting to begin with but the swiveling version for some reason wasn’t added.
Fun fact: this thing was the first aircraft to successfully eject a pilot under stationary conditions. Funnier fact: it was an accident; Paper Skies has a great vid on the details.
I've seen a few flying in sim battle already. It's one of those few jets that carry enough payload to blow up half of the attacking/defending tanks on the frontline in a single run while giving zero f about the SPAAG that cover the tanks...that assuming those SPAAG survive the strike to begin with. Seeing one doing its work from my TV targeting camera is such an awesome sight.
Tim telling me the R-60M is flare hungry later on while one actually ignored the flares of a Harrier in the opening clip makes me question what I thought I knew.
There is a lot that goes into the calculation if a missile will chase a flare or not - one of the ideas with trying to take high-lead-angle missile shots is so that if the enemy plane drops a flare, it will pop out of the missile seeker's FOV quickly (since the missile is flying a little more along-side, instead of behind, the target), or maybe even spawn outside of it in the first place. The high angle on that harrier shot was a good demonstration of this. Also, a little luck always helps. ;-)
Loving your reviews Tim, alway somehow do a review on vehicles im about to research. I really appreciate your dedication to going really indepth in each video without making things complicated :)
The modernised variant from the 2000s is the M2, MK is a slightly downgraded export M model. The M2 is "available" in game as an unlockable modification/upgrade, but it's lacking stuff like the R-73, Kh-38 or the drastic weight reduction thanks to lighter electronics
Su-24M is currently missing a huge amount of thrust on the stat card, compared to the Su-17M4 which uses the same engine Su-24M still lack 4560kgf of thrust
I kind of like a lot of strike type aircraft, and sort of want the Su-24, but I despise Top Tier Air RB and feel dirty flying CAS in Ground RB (plus I sort of suck with tanks.)
.. yeah ... :-\ .... they had some major issues with early versions of the low-level navigation system flying the plane into the side of mountains, along with other problems.
On the MAWS issue I've made multiple bug reports about this with it being set off by literally everything and the only response I've gotten is "not a bug" "flares are a heat signature at speed and can be considered a missile" MAWS will never get fixed
I should've researched this first, then all of the horrible below average french warship tree that was added... That cockpit is at least gorgeous even if it's putting you at risk of heavy blindspots, It makes me wish the WSO seat was an option to switch to.
I still wish they didn't folder everything as "strike aircraft." Make this a tactical bomber, as it is in reality, not a "strike aircraft," since that's super vague. It can be anything from an A-10 to a Harrier.
As I mentioned, the Glonass bombs only target fixed points on the ground and can't track moving targets. Base bombing with them, or farming clusters/convoys of AI ground units is probably the quickest early-upgrades-grind with it.
With the ground MTI mode, you're not supposed to be able to. I didn't go into it in the vid because I suspect its a bug in the implementation, but I was occasionally able to see pillboxes and airfield AAA on the radar scope, but nothing else that was stationary. They might have coded in something to detect larger-size targets regardless of movement, its hard to be certain.
You completely forgot to mention the rwr, which is near crippling. It fails to detect the radar bands of the Mig-21 and 23, and half of the busted top tier aa.
Dont know if I ant to research this jet right now because in AirRB all you get is mostly uptiers but maybe to use for ground it might be a vehicle to use. Hell if I was gonna use the GNSS bombs i would launch all of them on a cap that is starting to be capped and send them to their point all over the cap.
