    RESPECTING THE SKIN BARRIER is the number one priority in my routine. The more you understand how your skin naturally functions, the less you become obsessed with products, but rather you add products as a supplement to work with your skin :) Let me know if these skin basics is interesting to watch?!

      Liah Yoo 리아유 Hi Liah! So i've been using the Son & Park Beauty Water as my toner and as my quick morning cleanse for a good year, and my skin has improved immensely ever since I've started using it. I know it is advertised as a cleansing water and toner multitasker, but I was wondering if I shouldn't use it as a toner anymore because it does contain some surfactants? Thank you for your informative videos always!

    okay so I have visited about 2 dermatologists by now and all they have recommended me was benzoyl peroxide, other creams, and oral pills. I have been using a foaming cleanser that has 4% benzoyl peroxide that does dry my skin giving me a sense of cleanness of my oily acne prone skin. I will admit that I am getting desperate to clear up my acne that I have had since I was 13. But I have stumbled upon your channel a while ago and Oh MY GOd i wish I have discovered it sooner. I have been learning more about the skin barrier by you than what MY dermatologists have told me and given me. And you have changed my whole perspective on my lifestyle and diet as well. I'm starting to change my diet, a basic and simple skin care routine, and slowly adding supplements(if needed) onto my planned routine. I just want to say thank you so much for informing us about acne and our skin!

    I'm so glad u mentioned wash our face with "room temperature" water, I've heard so many people telling me to damp my face with warm water first then after cleansing, rinse it off with cold water, I've tried it and I could feel that my skin was feeling uncomfortable so I stopped. But heck, some people still shove this kind of method to me D:

    • @nature.mallow1242
      @nature.mallow1242 7 років тому +19

      Derpface Onigiri Yes! You shouldn't listen to them. When you rinse off your cleanser, its best to use room temp/warm water as cold water leaves behind residue! This will lead to clog pores that you wouldn't want >

    • @domdahlia
      @domdahlia 7 років тому +83

      kayla nelson Just like what Liah is stating in this video, make sure to also include a moisturizer that has cerimides, fatty acids and cholesterol for future skin health. Although rosehip oil is amazing for the skin, alone, rosehip does not include nourishment that can build your skin barrier. Overtime, only using oils can thin out the skin barrier bc cerimides and cholesterol has been lacking for so long. This happened to me when oils were going viral in the beauty market. I only used oils and my skin barrier started thinning, which the oils couldn't absorb anymore. Hope this helps!

Acne prone skin is lack of leinoliz so we need it and i promise you it healed my acne. see Liah Yoo recommend rosehip oil for acne.. dont be afraid of oils they are healthy . Just choose what's best for you..

      Janicel Faith Dela Victoria oils are good as you mentioned, BUT they dont build up the skin barrier as they dont contain the nutrients neccesary for it and also doesn’t penetrate the skin so you should definitely not only rely on oils, but creams and serums cotaining humectants, ceramides, cholestorol and fatty acids.

    Indeed essential oils and extracts seem to be something that's been polluting a lot of skincare products. While some of them can be very beneficial, I find that they are common triggering factors for clogging pores and acnes. This is why i am veyr skeptical about Klairs for example esp their toner and serums when being recommended for sensitive, oily, acne prone skin. I learned the hard way. Looking at their ingredients, there's way too many essential oils in it. I think they work better for normal, dry skin.

    I definitely have a damaged skin barrier. Major T-Zone acne breakouts, oily skin but DRY UNDERNEATH, large pores on my nose...I'm so depressed. My breakouts were so bad that my dermatologist put me on topical antibiotics that further damage my skin barrier BUT have cleared me up. I want to transition off of that to repairing my skin barrier. Can you recommend a moisturizer that has the properties you recommended: ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids? Was really hoping a recommendation was forthcoming. What do you think of La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer? I have really sensitive skin and am hearing a lot of good things about this product, although it does pill.

      I’m using illiyoon ceramide ato concentrate cream and it’s my holy grail moisturizer! You have to try it! If you have oily skin use less..it’ll be a little bit heavy on AM if you’re living in a hot humid weather..apart from that there’s no any issue with this queen..go give it a try ❤

    Great video! I've done a lot of damage to my skin over the years and at 26 I'm seeing too many wrinkles appear! With the help of your channel and r/skincareaddiction I've begun to correct the damage and see minor improvements! I LOVE the videos on the basics- it's SO helpful and important because it's helping us solve the problem- not just temporarily make it go away! A lot of people were taught incorrectly or just not at all on how to manage their skin and you're giving us info we'll pass on and benefit from forever.
    Question: If a cleanser does not list it's PH on the bottle, what's the best way to determine if it's gentle or not?

    i always wondered "why did i develop sensitive, acne-prone skin in my 20's?" but then i realized i was just trying too much harsh skincare all the time, and it just bothered my skin to no end. ever since i've simplified it to a super gentle cleanser, a moisturizer that doesn't do really anything else, and a sunscreen it's definitely gotten better. also instead of super harsh physical/chemical exfoliants, i just use a really super soft cleansing brush whenever i have to wear makeup (only a couple times a week), just to really make sure it all comes off. and i guess a micellar water to take off makeup, but that's inevitable

    Regarding the repairing of the skin barrier, the best product I've tried is Bioderma's Matricium. They're these tiny doses of water-like liquid, and there's 30 of them - 1 per day. It restores your skin, I had always had super great skin until not long ago (fungal acne) and it really helped. It's not the cheapest thing out there but it helps a lot.

    BHA and Benzoyl Peroxide can help the skin especially for acne prone people, if used correctly... a gentle cleanser isnt active and if you have acne, its probably going to need an active ingredient to kill what may be bacteria

I finally admit that I don't have a good-skin gene like other people so right now I try to at least protect it with less but hydrating products rather "punishing" it with too much acne products.
    I found that not using cleanser in the morning and proctect the skin with sunscreen are the techniques that gave my skin more power and less acne even though I didn't use any treatments, just a simple HA + B5 serum and lotion mask.
    Thank you alot Liah, I wish you all the best.

    I’ve damaged my skin barrier so much (not by the sun but with skin care products) to the point where it looks like a red line sun burn on my upper cheek nose areas,
    I got sunscreen lotion and everytime I put it on I can feel a tingle/ burn on my upper cheeks, should I stop using it?
    Also I’m 15 idk if this is useful or not but I’ve heard that age makes a difference

      I’m in the same position I am always switching between face washes for my skin and my toner isn’t selling at the store anymore so I can’t get it but I have been using sunscreen too and I recommend cerave AM moisturizer and sunscreen or the dupe of it since they do the same and it is cheaper! It really helps moisture if you aren’t as dry on the face but the reason your cheeks burn is maybe because of the brand or some type of ingredient in the formula. So if it continues to do that maybe try switching!

    Subscribed! Thank you so much. I have severe hyperpigmentation around my mouth and under my eyes. so I used serums with alpha arbutin and lactic acid, I thought my skin was gonna get better but nope. It damaged it. The area got REALLY flaky and sensitive, my skin type is dry btw. EVERY skincare product I've used resulted in my skin feeling like it's burning it's been like this for 3 - 4 months, I've bought natural face oils to put it around there cause I thought it was the best solution cause of the sensitiveness but 0 results, i think it became drier than before. It all makes sense now.. I just bought Innisfree skin barrier cream with ceramide today. I really hope my skin will heal

  • @frederikhoejgaard

    This happened to me! By overusing The Ordinary's 30% Vitamin C suspension and over-exfolating, I suddenly woke up to red, irritated skin and small bumps all over my face causing an orange peel-like skin texture.. Luckily, my skin bounced back in just a week by cutting back on everything except a very gentle La Roche Posay cleanser and The Ordinary's NMF + HA (has ceramide precursors), sunscreen with ceramides from CeraVe and The Ordinary's Marula Oil to deal with dryness and flakiness. My skin actually looks great now, though I'm thinking of very slowly reintroducing vitamin c derivatives and weekly BHA exfoliation. Turns out, exfoliating every other day is probably unnecessary at best and harmful at worst..

    • @LiahYoo
      @LiahYoo  7 років тому

      I'm sorry your skin had to go through such irritation! It often happens with high % ascorbic acid. Your current skin care routine looks solid tho!! Vit c derivatives won't be as bad so good luck!

      Thanks! Really appreciate your great advice. And to think Deciem's customer service agent said that I was probably experiencing a "slight purge" with a new product rather than being honest about the fact that 30% is very high % of ascorbic acid and could easily cause severe irritation and damage.
