I just got that shortly after completing the area. I’ve been casting light over my head when in dark areas. I always prefer being able to do a little magic early on.
In a world where most people here talk fast, bombarding us with facts left and right, I greatly appreciate your calm, deliberate way of speech! It is very relaxing. I'm glad your video was recommended! Also, I find it refreshing that you did not know about the second bonfire in the Tomb of Giants. Just shows that though for many people this game's secrets have been revealed, there are still players who are experiencing certain aspects for the first time. Makes me wish I could forget all about the Souls games and play them again, especially this one! I look forward to watching the rest of the video. Just finished, now I want to play this game again! Your review reminded me how it felt to play this game for the first time, and I can say, I still recall how frustrated Undead Burg made me, yet I kept coming back after cooling off, the game itself casting a spell on me. That was my introduction to Dark Souls. This game has opened my eyes in storytelling too - before I saw stories as good vs bad, and actually thought Gwyn and the lords in the intro were the "good" guys, and was surprised to learn they were bosses instead!
im also starting to realize i think that i have never done the painted world correctly. i always skip the door cuz i thought that was how to do it normally
I honestly really like how you included bosses into the determination of your rankings, since I always felt DS1 did a great job at making both its areas and respectful bosses feel connected. Fascinating discussion, keep up the great work!
5:08 the way you came in from the future and your monologue but your funny/vulgar dialect throughout the video made me wanna subscribe. Keep up the good work Brodie 👍🏽
I played as a sorcerer and got the magic "Cast Light" before entering the Tomb of the Giants. With this, I found it a good place to grind as with the light you can target many enemies before they see you, and take them out with sorcery like heavy soul arrow. When you get to the pool with the skeleton babies, you can farm for humanity. I accept, it isn't a good area for those without magic
Tomb of giants is relatively passable if you have a good level and weapon, which is 60-70 sl, +15 normal weapon, +5 special weapon and especially the sunlight maggot. The giant skeletons are quite weak and require 2-3 hits to be taken out. Also the bone dogs can be one-shotted by many weapons. What was real nightmare was earlier versions of Tomb of Giants. First, necromancers didn’t drop skull lanterns and second, giant skeletons had way more health (650ish compared to the actual 400ish) and normal weapons also had worse scaling so, it would often take 6-7 hits or more to take them out. Anyway, new londo is bullshit cuz of the annoying ghosts.
I think what I love most about New Londo Ruins is that the ghosts have low enough health that you can still get all the way to Ingward very early on in the game. That's what I like about New Londo and the Catacombs. They are difficult but any player who doesn't fully get the message that they're supposed to go through undead burg first can still make decent progress in each level. I will say that I do really like Tomb of the Giants. I didn't understand that the game had light sources like lanterns so I just went in fully blind and while it was frustrating and annoying, I still found it satisfying to complete. I guess I like levels like Tomb of the Giants and Blightown because I like it when the game makes me feel uneasy. The atmosphere for ToG is perfect in my opinion. I think you were a little too unfair to the painted world of Ariamis and the Lower Undead Burg. I never had issues with the Capra demon and I liked how scary the enemies were. But I will admit that I never really thought about how good Oolacile township is. I definitely don't think it's at the level of Anor Londo or New Londo and I think the level design of Undead Parish/Burg is better but the unique enemies and atmosphere of Oolacile Township is really interesting to me and it's what justifies the existence of the DLC. Otherwise the DLC would've been cheap copy pasted areas designed only for annoyingly long boss rushes. If Dark Souls every got a next-gen remake, I'd personally love to see what they'd be able to do with Lost Izalith as well as the Valley of the Drakes. I think both of those areas has the most potential but felt the most unfinished/dated. Also crystal caves. Those three areas would benefit the most from a remake. (and I guess blighttown if you count the low fps issues).
At the start I was trapped in Blightown for hours looking for Quelaag. I died jumping down and then climbed the section that leads to the Depths so I was totally lost which was fun.. so when I ahead and beat Quelaag with Mildred. I honestly had to look up where the boss was as it was getting tedious dying and reclaiming my souls over and over to learn. This made me speedrun Giants Tomb and just hold on with Humanity for heals to beat Nito.. before I began I was informed to go to Pinwheel early and he destroyed me time and time again till I used humanity and found the summon. 😂 Hardest real boss was Four Kings who merced my arse and change their attacks every time I attempted a run.. I ended up reloading saves from cloud outside the fog door 😅
