I sorta say the same kind of thing. GOAT just doesn’t seem “big enough” to contain Bird. He and Magic were at a level that was bigger than basketball alone. They “changed things.”

One of the best follow ups to the 3 point contest is the year following Bird's 3 straight wins, he wasn't there due to injury. Craig Hodges, who had finished 2nd to Bird twice previously won it.
Reporters asked him if he only won because if Bird's absence. Craig responded "Larry knows where to find me."
Of course they went straight to Bird and told him, Bird responded "Yeah, I know where, at the end of the Bulls bench."

Later, after his playing days were over, he was in a suit and walked thru the Pacers' practice facility and a ball came down his way. The crazy thing was John Hanzlik was a VERY good defender when he played, as he was on the All-NBA Second Defensive Team in 1986. It's just that Bird was terrorizing Hanzlik at the time, and as Larry was prone to do, he was gonna talk sh-t to most anyone (opposing players, head coaches, his own teammates, etc.) within earshot, but it was also never really vile or venomous.
I played a LOT of hoops at various levels, and most guys who talk sh-t get too riled up--especially if the other guy starts getting the better of the play--whereas Bird rarely ever got too amped up or lost his cool. AND Larry had the uncanny ability to make a shot from almost anywhere on the floor during THE most clutch times, which is where most sh-t talkers can't measure up. Bird was just a rare cat when it came to the combination of talking sh-t/keeping his composure during the most critical times/hitting clutch shot after clutch shot.

Here's something people don't realize, Larry was left-handed. Watch any video of Larry signing a contract or autograph, he is left handed, you write with your dominate hand. he trained himself to shoot right-handed. Now imagine defending against a shooter who can instantly switch shooting hands. When you watch a full game of Bird, you will notice how many times he makes a left-handed pass or a close in shot. I never saw him shoot a left-handed 3 but Dominique Wilkins said Bird made left-handed 3 point shots in his 60 point against Atlanta. Imagine how many hours it takes to get better shooting with your off hand than most people can do with their dominate hand.

Hey, bro, great stuff! It was funny, when you said you know what that reminds me of (or something like that) I was already thinking about that Bird-Jordan horse McDonald’s commercial! Then, you said it lol.
Man, don’t even worry about bringing him (Jordan) up during a Bird reaction video. When you talk about that level of greatness, you pretty much have to do it. There aren’t many (if any) others you can mention. They have that respect for each other’s game, too. Great reaction to that video, man! Thanks a lot for doing it! Subscribed and looking forward to watching more of your stuff!

There were some stories in there that I hadn't heard before. Great reaction! Bird was awesome. I have MJ as the GOAT but Bird right after him.

yea, ppl that played AGAINST Bird will talk about him like he is Michael Jordan or MORE.. shoot some of those players that face them BOTH will claim that Bird was the WORSE to defend two. the REGULAR nba fan will Say Jordan is the GOAT. the NBA fan tha REALLY understands will know that Bird is RIGHT THERE with Jordan. ..EVEN JORDAN himself has ultimate respect for Bird. Kobe, Lebron, Ray Allen, they all got Bird and Mike (and Magic) in their top 5.

Jordan said Bied taught him how to trash talk. MJ and Bird are my 2 headed GOAT I'm neither a Celtic nor Bulls fan. I'm actually from Cleveland.

I had the pleasure of being a big Bird fan and watched his entire career. His prime was my teenage years

Oh no, Larry was very careful about his money. He never gambled it away, because he knew that he wanted to have enough money for retirement. That and he grew up dirt poor.

I’ve heard Jordan say that he learned to talk trash from Bird.
