In that left hand game Bird had 47 points 14 rebounds 11 assists. He said he would play left-handed at least through 3/4 except long jumpers. He took the game winning shot. 120 to 119 in overtime. 22 points left handed. He was something else.
Nobody realizes that Larry is actually left handed. If you see the picture of him signing with the Celtics, he's signing left handed. He grew up in a time when left handedness was kind of forced out of people.
@@singerkgreen I m sure that's why his right hand was his dominant hand for basketball 🏀 He said he developed his left hand shot to complete with Michael Cooper who he considered his best defender to cover him. He used it alot to give him an edge.
Larry bird would average a triple double in his sleep in the NBA today !! he used to give me nightmares. I was a huge Laker fan ! Magic Johnson my favorite ! But Larry Bird was just ridiculous ! People say Bird reminds them of Luca no, it’s Luca that reminds them of Bird !! his basketball IQ was off the charts
I was just a kid when Bird was playing. I had known about him and seen him play but the trash talking wasn't a well known thing because he didn't do it off the court. It wasn't until youtube that I learned what a cold trash talker he was. I have him as the best all around team player ever. Just like Jordan, Bird would make 3 or 4 defenders close in on him and he'd either do a circus shot or a pass to guy no one but Larry knew was there. Best sportsman and role model of all time too
As a kid growing up in Cda, hockey was my game. My older brother played basketball and made me sit down one nite and watch the Celtics game. Damm I was hooked, Bird was awesome.
That over the backboard shot at around 5:00 was done on a bet near the end of a game. Bird forgot about it until someone reminded him just in time. More Bird videos!
one of the funniest stories I heard was "when bird almost made an nba all-star commit suicide" the way that guy tells the story in the interview is hilarious
I heard that in the game where the Hawks players were cheering his shooting, Atlanta coach Mike Fratello was doing the same with an assistant but in a MUCH more low-key way.
I was a very blessed young man to have been up close and personal with not only Mr Larry Bird.. but all the greats from other teams including Jordan , and especially Dominique Wilkins. My dad was the maintenance supervisor of the Omni (home of the Atlanta Hawks) for many years so I went to as many home games and other events as I could like concerts, wrestling, monster trucks etc. I can tell you that other than the person relationship I had with Dominique because of being around and behind the scenes for a few years , Larry was my favorite player. So yes… he was that guy that would always have even the away fans going crazy!
I watched Birds entire career in my teens and early 20s. My favorite part is the end. When your biggest rival tell says what magic said that is mad respect
In one game, Larry was 1 steal away in the 3rd QUARTER, from a QUADRUPLE double! Only a few in NBA history, accomplished that feat. He was the founder of the 50/40/90 club also.
Great reaction man. Bird and Magic were something to watch for sure. I grew up watching them both. I'm a Celtics fan but had the utmost respect for Magic and the "Showtime Lakers". If you want t great watch (maybe even react to video) check out "Magic and Bird A Courtship of Rivals". Amazing video of two of the greatest to ever do it. By the way even as a Celtics fan the Mamba was the truth. Mad respect for his mind for the game and his desire to learn. Kobe's work ethic is literally a copy and paste of how Bird was back in the day (1st in, last out of the building). Tireless worker always seeking to improve his craft. But yeah check out that Magic & Bird video when you get a chance.
One of the primary tasks that needs to be done asap is to remaster all these tapes of the greats from the 50s,60s,70s and 80s. Or, they'll all disappear. Look at how much information, facts and pleasure they've given to the last couple of generations and how wrong they were about Bird.
no one does what larry can do. he was a monster with his mouth and on the court. who do you know these days who can talk trash, tell the other team what he was going do, or say they will play most of a game off-handed? no one. that's why he's larry legend.
Think about this. That end of career ceremony with Magic was just that. There was no game. There were about 17,000 people who filled a sold out Boston Garden, myself included just to thank him for the endless amount of joy he gave us for 13 years… Your reactions are priceless as well. Take it from someone who was there, the videos don’t do it justice. You would have loved it…
That ending is from Larry Birds retirement ceremony video, you should watch that as well as his *Ultimate Mix Tape* and his "Larry Bird Greatest Passer RE-EDIT" videos - make sure the greatest passer is the RE-EDIT version as it has more in it especially Larry amazingly accurate full court passes
You should have seen him in real time. It was something to watch! While his stats are great, they don't tell half the story. The man could do and did do everything!
After a game Bird asked magic if he would come have dinner at Birds house. Birds mom was making the dinner and Bird told magic he had to have him over because magic is Birds mothers favorite player. Magic said they sat and talked like to normal guys and they became best friends. 2 great athletes and men they are.
Hell, even when Jordan and Pippen were in their prime...he took them down too. After surgery on both feet and I believe a broken back too at that point. Took a season the get healthy & in sinc again, but took the Bulls next year. Laying down cause it was too painful to sit on the bench when off court. He was ready to retire but his good friend Magic even convinced him lace the hightops up 1 more time, for the Dream Team Olympic squad.
The game where he was playing when magic was hurt You mentioned you'd like to see that game please try and find it... I've seen the highlights of it it's somewhere but I couldn't refind it but I'm telling you that game was like he was clowning fools man! He looked like a single Harlem Globetrotter or maybe seem like a pro playing with a bunch of high school kids it was ridiculous! If you can get it and I'll still look for it it's amazing
Top 10 player of all time, natural born killer, genius bball IQ. Backed up everything he ever said and he talked every game..... people just can not understand a white boy coming into the NBA and banging the league like a screen door in a Hurricane. Magic even said he was better then him....I love their friendship
THE best 3 to play in the NBA and its not close at all. Nothing against Luka but its an insult to compare him to Bird because Bird played defense as well.
One more thing buddy the best trash talking story wasn't even in this video... The Jamal mashburn story is the best trash talking story maybe of any sport ever! It's in some videos I'll try and find it and send you the link or if you can find it it's great
@@imChriss2 yeah when I saw it recently it's mixed in with one of those you know great trash talking or where the all the old pros respect them so much One of those but it's for he was at the Olympics in '92 and the story that happened there it's crazy!
That was Fun! Thanks for sharing your reaction. ua-cam.com/video/ZFKqN0Wvy-U/v-deo.htmlsi=9zv7_1xS4Sx1BWGR This video gives more info about the "show" Bird put on for Magic. The Laker great, Jerry West, witnessed it firsthand.

No modern player nowadays would ever have the audacity of Bird, and back it up!
yeah no one, to say what you are going to do and try it after that, is like a clutch shoot every time, because you have to back up your S...
