I've wanted to get a few pairs of boots shown on your channel, but these made one of the best cases for affordability and utility. My smol foot isn't supported by a lot of mens shoes so I'm out on this one.
@RoseAnvil2 - are the soles on this non-slip?
10.5 is already out of stock...
When will the boots be available in europe?
Just got mine! I love love love them!
I think you may have, unintentionally, made the perfect driving boot.
If I didn't buy a pair of the regular African Rangers just a couple months ago I would 100% order these right now. I hope they make this permanent in their collection.
Buy some, choose a color you don't have, problem solved!
@@-Only.Facts-even with the same color they are totally different boots scenario.
Omg it's finally happening!!!
Edit: just finished the video. Thanks so much for advocating for minimalist boots and bringing this to fruition. I'm so glad that a truly minimalist boot made the proper traditional way finally exists. I'm picking one up!
and now we need tabi, wide whool sock with snug ankles for the skinny one's amongst us :)
I have always wanted a zero drop boot that could be resoled. Thanks for making this happen.
I had the same idea. There isn't that much good barefoot boots out there, and I wondered what if Jim Greens made one. Thank you for making my dream come true.
The closest I’ve seen is the lems boulder summit, except it’s a glue down sneaker style construction that can’t be resoled.
My dream is a boulder summit made like a whites or nicks quality.
That’s because “barefoot” boots are an idiotic idea. They may sell a few hundred to liberals and weirdos but this shit is ultimately useless
@@Baba44203I have some vivobarefoot tracker forest esc.
Stitched sole, quite a similar leather upper style to these. But they have an airmesh inner. They're awesome boots but they have a very aggressive tread and the looks are a bit love or hate, really made for wandering through soft ground like woodlands. I can see the jim greens whole construction looks much more hard wearing and more of a "proper boot" style. I'm quite interested in investing in some
The vivos being a much more barefoot minimalist style. The jim greens look like a better choice for a harder wearing, day to day or work boot
Hats off to Rose Anvil and Jim Green for responding to what the market is asking for. Considering they had to make a new last that proves they are willing to try new things. They look nice and Comfortable with a capital C!
I have the African Rangers and would still buy these in a heartbeat. Zero drop is where it's at. Can still have thicker soles and padding etc but having no angle to the heel makes a huge difference. I would love those zero drop sole on their new baobab.
Altra has models that are 0 drop with a midsole to them. One of the models Lone Peak Hiker 2 and all weather mid version are even based on the Altra Lone Peak trail running shoes both the Lone Peak and the Lone Peak all weather that is a more minimal trail shoe with cushion that has a stone guard built in.
Thank you for helping make this happen. The footwear market desperately needed this.
Finally a simple, proper shoe.
Now do this with the AR8 and you have the best tall moccasin boot.
I'd love to see a zero drop razorback or a lined African ranger as a winter boot.
AR8 and Razorback please!!!!
This is the boots a lot of us were desperately waiting for. Long-lasting and comfortable real boots at a very fair price - as opposed to almost every barefoot boot out there, that cost almost twice and are built with a third of the materials. Thank you! Now we need this concept with the AR8's as well 🙂
Its because African companies aren't obsessed with money like Vivo
@@JasonOwensYT Yes! But also because "real boot" companies more often than cannot stop thinking about the fashion side of boot making, thus making boots less comfortable. Would it be that hard to have 1 or 2 options for zero drop and wide toe box in an entire collection? It should be pretty standard by now. But that's just me...
@@joaogaspar9155 jim green will put their barefoot soles on any of their uppers. So you could have barefoot ar8 boots
Initial review (2 days wear)- Comparing to other “barefoot” boots- The sole: Some ground feel, less than many others, which is just what I wanted. No heel rise- Check! Toe box: Tapers more than other barefoots, but not narrow. Similar to a Keen wide. If you have EE feet your toes are not going to “splay” like maybe in a Xero boot. On the stylish-to-clown shoe scale, they lean a bit toward stylish. Insole: None. You may like this. If not, an insole that is not too thick can be added. So far I am liking an old Keen insole in mine, which fits without alteration by the way, indicating the toe box width. The leather: Not heavy enough to use as a work boot, “These boots are made for walk-in’, and that’s just what I’ll do”. Only Con so far: the heel pull tab is a decoration, not a heel pull tab. Being a leathercrafter, I immediately added a leather finger loop to the existing tab. I suggest Jim Green do the same. Conclusion: It’s not a hard-use boot, it’s not a chukka, it’s not a mukluk, It’s not a moccasin. It’s a Barefoot African Ranger, almost in a class by itself. Rugged enough for woods walking, stylish enough (for me) to wear to weddings, funerals, and church.
I am SO excited for this. I've bought several pairs of Lems and Xero shoes and never really been satisfied with their lifespan, primarily due to their glued soles. I had pretty much given up trying to find a good zero drop wide toe hiking boot, and was seriously considering a pair of Iron Rangers for hiking... These are basically the PERFECT hybrid of a Boulder Boot and an Iron Ranger. I think I like the look of stiffer toe cap of the original shoe better, but I'm sure I'll prefer the softer fit after a few miles of wear.
Probably the closest shoes would have been from Inov-8 but with too deep of lugs on most models.
How did you size this compared to lems? I am a 10.5 in lems and want to know what size of this I should order
Just pre-ordered. This boot basically checks all the boxes as to what I've been looking for in a boot. Wide toe box, zero drop, good looks, quality lasting materials, able to resole, at a reasonable price. Can't wait to try them out.
Just curious, did you get your boots? How do you like them? Did you order true-to-size or 1/2 size up?
@@yanosaur haven't received them yet. They said they should ship in January.
@@daviddaugherty1861update
I know I speak for everyone when I say this is absolutely an amazing collaboration!!!
Super excited to get a pair from the best boot company and the best online boot reviewer!
Well done to everyone involved, so awesome and amazing! ❤❤❤
I want to thank you for such a good sizing description on this video. When I got the notification that my boots had finally shipped, I started watching other videos and reading online about them. Many of them said to go down a half size. So, I was worried that I had waited three months for boots that were going to fit horribly. Thanks to you, I ordered the perfect fit. That’s really why I consider you guys the authority on anything boots. Keep it going!
Got my true to size since I didn't want an insole. Was a perfect fit at 9.5. I got the all black a few days ago.
So happy these actually come in a 13.5, so many brands stop making half sizes at the bigger sizes. Normally only the really boot companies still offer half sizes past 13 and that holds true here, excited to get mine in.
I’m going to order these. BC I support you both specifically. Wes, thanks for all you do and thank Jim Green for listening to their customers!
Wow. This is awesome! I have a pair of the Razorbacks largely because of this channel and I love them for general work outside. I also like to wear barefoot style shoes and was wanting to find something for general wear (casual and maybe light hiking) that was not as heavy duty as the Razorback. And here is this! This is great to see.
His excitement is endearing. I hope it takes off in the circles that would appreciate them. Even if they don’t it’s pretty darn impressive that you had a hand in prototyping a new entry into the zero drop barefoot type shoe lineup. Ceo sounds pretty rad too.
I got mine last week and I absolutely love them so far. They feel so good on my feet and I think they look great too. I’m so happy I made this purchase
Thanks for getting them made and then bringing it to my attention!
I am SO EXCITED for these boots! There’s a huge need in the market for quality barefoot boots.
Definitely a favorite of mine. Have had them for about 2 weeks. Definitely worth every penny. I’m very pleased with the results. Almost hesitated, soooo glad I pulled the trigger.
Just got mine, these are PERFECT! I had been on the hunt for a full leather quality barefoot boot. These are made extremely well for the price. Got some for my pops too. I hope they continue to make this product.
I received my Jim Green Barefoot boots 2 weeks ago. Love them!! I've been on the barefoot thing for a little more than a year, trying to subvert a bunion issue. I live in the PNW and do a lot of outdoor activities and the barefoot offerings for outdoor action are on the flimsy side. The Jim Green boots are exactly what I have been wanting! I wear them everyday, at least 5 miles of walking a day, I clean them accordingly. I could keep rambling on about them! Great boots! Thank you for your input on these boots!! Well done!!
MAN, I have been waiting for something like this for so long.
Awesome. I’m glad to see more zero drop boots being made. hopefully someone will make zero drop fire boots soon.
I watched this video three months ago and placed an order for a pair.
I never owned a pair of zero drop barefoot shoes.
Just received them and could not be more satisfied.
I put these on first thing in the morning over putting house shoes as they are that comfortable.
I won't go over all the reasons these are fantastic as this video is %100 accurate.
My two best features are 1) The sole is thin enough to feel the terrain but thick enough to feel 100% safe in walking over anything. 2) They are easy to get in and out of
Believe him every word is true.
Just received mine today and I’m so stoked that you were able to set this up with Jim Green! I finally have a pair of quality leather shoes w/ zero drop and the wide toe box that will last years. I really hope they keep it in their line so I can grab the other color in a few months. They look great and I really like the fudge color.
I just learned about these and I like the approach and the fact that they’re not as thin as nearly all the barefoot shoes out there. I’m disappointed to see they’re sold out so quickly, but hopefully that means they’ll be a standard offering. I needed a new pair of boots anyway so I ordered a pair of the standard African Rangers. I’ll confirm my size and I plan to put in a preorder for these barefoot. Jim Green, keep pumping these out!
I’m not into zero drop boots but this makes me happy and excited to see other collabs you and some others can do with Jim Green. I do like the fact they upgraded the lasting board and midsole to leather. I believe they can also upgrade the steel shank and thermoplastic heel stiffener to leather. Would love to see their AR8 in all leather components and maybe a smooth/rough out combo
What's wrong with a steel shank?
Mind that JG keeps affordability in mind with their designs, and with those upgrades comes a higher price tag that might push it just out of range for some
I’m so happy this exists! Thank yall for doing this!
I really love this idea. I've been wearing Lems for about 3 years now, and I can never go back to a shoe that isn't foot shaped, and I definitely don't care for a heel toe drop any more, and they have the right compromise between cushioning and being extremely thin and barefoot. But I've always been disappointed by the lack of leather, classical construction "barefoot" shoes out there. They tend to be synthetic, glued together, and disposable while still commanding a pretty penny.
I'm going to get these to replace my Birkenstock Jackson. Thanks for giving so much visibility to barefoot shoes and bringing a new quality style to life!
God, this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for for years! I'm definitely gonna snag a pair or two of these to use as my daily drivers.
I only wear barefoot/minimalist shoes; this is a great idea. Make sure the right audience sees these: they might not have visibility to your channel.
Received mine in France from Jim Green's South African site, you guys rock !! Been looking for this exact design for years ! Thanks for this prpject and your content
I got Jim Green boots because of you. Excellent value for us poors. The wedge sole is important for my area where heavy rain will create muddy conditions with thick clay like mud. Interesting solution here
Been wearing these since they arrived and they helped my knees feel much better.
Brought these a month ago, wearing them to work, very comfortable, no break in issues. I polished mine black and they look good, loving the boots. Only barefoot boots I could find that are actually a boot that is suitable for work as a paramedic.
Ya'll are awesome for this. Thanks to you and Jim Green.
The algorithm finally got to me. Ordered a pair 4 minutes into the rose anvil channel video, then watched the test video and this one. My feet are pre thanking you.
Big Altra fan here. As soon as you explain this boots design I ordered a pair for X-Mas! Cannot wait!
Just ordered these in Fudge and I am super pumped.
Also your preoder brought Jim Greens site to its knees
Bought a pair of them and I’m incredibly happy with them as work boots or my job as an electricians apprentice.
Best idea you ever had. Could not have designed it better myself. Just got a pair last night. Hopefully they will keep on producing them because if they are good for my feet I will continue to buy them.
I'm glad to see another resoleable barefoot shoe hit the market, not many options out there, thanks Weston! Looks like I will have to get a pair of these to replace my Lems boulder boots that I recently outgrew and sold. They'll fit in well next to my Bearfoot Bruins.
Just received mine this week. They're outstanding.
I’m so glad these panned out. I just picked up a pair. On Amazon. Who’d a thunk it! I can’t wait to try them out!
Been looking for a boot like this. Now I'm on the wait list for a pair.
Those look awesome. Nice to finally see a real leather minimalist boot.👍👍 Great job.
Hope they make this permanent. Got a sneaking suspicion these will be sold out before I get a chance to get in on the drop. Will definitely pick a pair up if I get a chance to!
Wow this looks awesome and what i've been looking for. Missed the inital run but i have my pre order in. Will wait excitedly for them to come.
I need these
I'm a long time Xero shoe man. Some are better than others, but overall, the zero drop concept saved my feet.
I really appreciate your expertise in this arena
Love how your cat hanging out with you at times.
Then in a interview with jim and theres your cat. Lol
These are awesome. Just what I've been looking for. I will pre order soon.
Some of the best minds in the boot game came together and created a masterpiece
For 10 years I have been wearing zero drop, wide toe box (but supportive) running and trail runner shoes for casual wear and hiking, and more recently minimalist oxfords and weight training shoes. After seeing the JG BAR videos, I thought they would be a good boot for working in our yard. It's a fenced PNW west side 1 acre lot with 75% being 2nd growth native trees and thick underbrush on a fairly flat but uneven ancient glacial moraine covered by a thin layer of soil that I cut - maintain trails through, and clean up deadfall. I also thought they'd be a good "around camp" recovery boot after a day of bushwhacking to fly fish high gradient streams, and rockhounding on steep rocky slopes that were once ancient riverbeds where broken in old school all leather Euro alpine climbing boots provide me the best combination of support with ankle flexibility. The excellent leather, simple construction, including easily replaceable soles that quickly shed dirt, mud and debris, and water repellency are great. But I discovered that I needed more arch support. A pair of Sole Dean Karnazes heat moldable footbeds used in my climbing boots is providing the solution to the one and only issue I had with the BAR. Well Done!!
I wear the SOLE insoles in mine. Gives them just the right amount of support.
This is the boot I tried to get Limmer to make me and......they just didn't understand what I wanted because it was so foreign to them. I paid some other custom bootmaker here in WA to take what Limmer made for me and try to transform it and I thought they did exactly what I wanted only for them to fall apart 2 years later. Thankfully Limmer now understood and repaired them so I've got a VERY heavy duty barefoot boot that was extremely expensive.
Super excited to pick these up as my lightweight boot and never buy another Lems again (China-made, not resole-able).
I’m very curious - was this recent enough that they’d know what I was talking about if I called?
Bought mine last night and I'm super excited to get them!
The thermoplastic toe stiffener was my biggest gripe with JG boots. Definitely going to try to pick these up now!
I couldn't help myself. I had to get both colors! And it seems I got in ahead of the website crash! Love the channel and I love my Jim Greens. Can't wait to get these new additions!
Glad something like this is out there now! I am definitely picking up a pair, a lot of people on UA-cam have been giving great reviews of Jim Green boots, and for such a low price i won't care if they arent Viberg-level construction. I want to try something new.
Just preordered! These look fantastic
Got a preorder in for January. Can't wait to try them out.
UPS just dropped mine off an hour ago. Quick first impression review after the test fit.
I no longer need to worry about the color I chose because I’m buying a second pair. Wonderful job gentlemen! You have definitely earned a life long customer.
How long did it take to receive them; I thought they were backordered?
Just pre-ordered my pair. Excited to get them.
Thank you for this video. I just pre-ordered a pair in brown.
I’ve spent the last week going through your videos trying to find a barefoot boot that was worth trying.
This looks to be it.
Finally got them, holy smokes theyre comfy. Fit is true to size, more comfortable than a pair of vans or whatever sneaker. so much feel under foot, yet not too much. So flexible and absolutely zero break in. Pro tip don’t even bother with an insole. Genuinely like a heritage style boot thats actually a sneaker.
Ordered! Stoked to get them in hand. Thanks/Congrats on making it happen!
I got my pair of these a few weeks ago and really really like them. I’ve wanted a zero drop, minimalist, good ground feel boot for a while. And when I say boot, I mean a real boot. You have delivered that and I am thankful.
With that, I would like to share my feedback on two aspects of the Barefoot Ranger. First, these boots have a slight “clown shoe” feel. If you could cut the sole just a little closer to the welt I think it would make a big improvement in the aesthetics. Second, in a short boot like this I would like to see all eyelets, no speed hooks. These boots can be worn loosely with no laces at all. With all eyelets it gives the option to tie a knot in the ends of the shoe laces so the boots can be worn loose but the laces are still contained. If you made the boots like that, I’d buy pairs in every color you made available.
Yeeeahhh I'm excited for these! It's like you read my mind for the barefoot boot I've been wanting!
I've said it already but this appears to be exactly what I'm looking for in a boot for daily use. I don't need a rigid boot with massive tread every time I go outside. I need something to protect my feet from sharp rocks and branches. But something that's comfortable and (relatively) light to walk in but durable enough to withstand the rigors of hiking/walking in the woods. Something that won't easily be damaged from abrasion. And if that's not enough, they're able to be serviced! I slept on the initial release of these but I'll be pre-ordering a pair soon.
Finally! This is the boot I've been waiting for! Thank you!
I'm ready to buy these before even watching this video, thank you for pushing this kind of thing forward.
I just find it amazing that they make the outsoles themselves in house
Yes! More zero drop boots! Fell in love with the Lems and now wear mid top Wildlings. Also I'm never buying non-ergonomic toe boxes again - they are way too comfortable.
These are my favorite boots. No break in with these.
My dream collab would be you working with Lems to make a super premium upgraded version of the Boulder Boot (which I discovered on your channel and is now what I wear almost all the time).
As 'n South African hiker in to zero-drop on a budget I've literally considered ordering a Jim Green and just cutting of the heel for a zero drop shoe. When I saw this video it was like a daydream come true. I really hope this becomes a reality.
I'm in the USA and literally found out about this brand of boots are they of good quality and for the price a good value ? do a lot of S A people wear them ? I will check their website the upper resembles a Red Wing boot that I have had many pairs ✌️
They are quite popular in South-Africa, but quite low-key mostly known as work-boots. I've only recently discovered that they're not quite as run-of-the-mill as most of our other 'generic' work boots such CAT.@@michaellorenzen8200
Since I started wearing barefoot shoes that's all I want to wear now so I'm glad we're seeing more options come available
"Nobody is making, but we all want." Truth! Thank you.
👍 I just wanted you to know that based upon your discussions of this collaboration you did with Jim Green I ordered a pair from their Custom Shop with Buffalo hide uppers. They arrived today and I will begin breaking them in tomorrow. Thus far my 1st impression is very good. This is my second pair of Jim Green boots, the 1st being their Vellies. I found this firm to be very pleasant to deal with and very responsive to my questions. Thank you for pointing me in their direction.
Going to have to pre order some. so when they come back in stick i have a pair. Thank you for helping bring this shoe to America. These will be replacing my Merrell Moab that are worn out.
Just pre ordered mine can't wait
Those look like the Ultimate barefoot boots! Well done! I hope it turns out successful.
These are amazing!! Desperately hope they are part of the permanent collection.
I have two pair of Jim Green and never a complaint on either. Great value and good looking too! Will definitely be looking into these.
YES soo much, was wondering when JIm green would have this after they have been hinting at it. Didn't even no it was a Collab of sorts. added this to calendar
Love my Jim Greens! I bought the tyre sole one with the crazy looking leather. They are very nice for what they cost. I put in my own leather insole and had to cut off the toe area of the insole they came with to make it all fit. But now that is in there, they are super comfy. My only complaint is that I wish the heel was a bit higher. Other than that, I love the boots and will buy more from Jim Green in the future. The leather looks so crazy I like to tell people that it's t-rex leather lol.
I would totally order these! Love it!
These are so fuggin cool I love them
Love the concept of these. Great design brother.
Brilliant boot. I currently wear vivo barefoot shoes and boots. I now wear this boot much more than the vivo boot. They are also great to transition into barefoot shoes or give yourself a little more cushioning when you need a break or hiking in rugged areas
I purchased the African Ranger upon your recommendation. The are a well made simple boot. The insole was poor as you mentioned so I swapped out with a cheap insole. The boots are super comfortable and I feel like they will last a long time with minimal care. I am not super hard on boots and very rarely show much wear on the soles. Being they can be resoled I expect a long life out of them. I am a backpacker and like the Ranger so much I would wear it on a trip, they are reasonably light but still sturdy enough. This new version is super interesting and would make for an even lighter boot. I am going to look at getting a pair. I would love to hike the Appalachian Trail with a pair, I think with insole swaps you could wear a pair the majority of the trail. Lots of thru hikers are wearing trail runners and from what I have seen they are overpriced and hikers are only getting 500 miles or less. I think a light boot would be a great bridge between cost and durability. Even with swapping out insoles and a resole they would be a bargain.
Can't wait to see you reviewing the EKN Lianas on your channel. They are truly unique.
Dude amazing I love everything you guys did on this boot!
Just got mine delivered last night, wore them today.
I got the lems boot now I'm waiting for this boot to come into my rotation.
A resoling video would be awesome! If I can cut those costs out I'd definitely buy some decent boots
