I'm digging it. Something I'd love to see in the future would be a zero drop version of the rigged african ranger. Not a barefoot, just zero drop with a beefy sole for work applications. I personally find the zero drop, wide toebox boots must more comfortable for working in the back country, but the available options tend toward full barefoot at the expense of durability.
Can probably have JG add it as a special request without too much extra costs. Almost all their boots and shoes either come in steel toe or it can be added. It's a couple hundred rand extra, so probably $10-$20 extra to add steel toe
I hope desperately that this collaboration continues past the two batches. Always seems like you guys drop these when I can't justify another pair of boots, but I really really want these ones. I already have four pairs of Jim greens, there is no way I can justified buying another pair at the moment. Also am I the only one that thinks these would look awesome in a jungle Boot pattern, with a green shaft and then black everything else?
I really like my barefoot African troopers, but the heel is really loose. Trying to figure out the best way to get them to fit. Thick socks and bandaids aren't enough.
I need to get one of those barefoot in black! Your channel taught me a lot and showed me a lot about boots and footwear! Thank you for the content! Keep the great work going! Cheers from Venezuela 🇻🇪
I'm losing my mind over the Houston Brown. Gawd I hope they are still in stock on payday at the end of the week. Bravo Jim Green and to you Weston and your team!
The Houston black would look dope with the honey colored outsole. Just an idea I was back and forth on the color but went with the Houston brown but it would’ve been a no brainer if the honey outsole was on the black.
I really love mine except for their issue with the tongue gusset. I no longer need heavy, heavily lugged boot anymore so I bought my barefoot african troopers on launch got em super early, the leather is amazing. I love them much more than my original short top rangers.
Of BATs and RATs, turns out I love my new RAXJGBAR but wonderful to see another durable classic RAXJGRAT boot option. The acronym lineup is getting crazy!
I own several Jim greens .. including a few recrafted and custom one offs .. I have the barefoot African ranger.. The barefoot trooper .. and now I just ordered a black pair of these rugged version
The rugged looks so great! I also wanted to pull the trigger and get the regular ranger you have but also couldn’t quite convince myself i would rock the barefoot look.
Just got mine today! Amazing boots. They’ll need some break-in, but they were pretty comfortable out of the box. I wear a 13 4E in running shoes, and these feel great. Great collab.
Had no idea these were dropping but luckily watched the review on the 7th and made an order, exactly what I was looking for in the perfect price range.
Looking forward to the arrival of the barefoot trooper in black. Ordered it during the pre order phase, good to hear that people are starting to get them.
As much as I love this boot and appreciate what you're trying to do I think you should have had a safety toe in this boot or at the very least offer one as an option. There's a huge market for people who need quality steel caps but can't afford to drop $600 on Nicks or Whites for work.
I can’t wait to get a pair but I will ask and I’m glad I saw it in this video with you guys ever plan on releasing the rugged trooper with the honey soles because I would love to have the dark brown boot with the honey sole
Not going to lie impulse pre-ordered a pair of the Houston black variety although I am looking very forward to these four and all around boot. I have the original African Rangers that I kind of just use that as a leather sneaker and they've worked out amazingly, really looking forward to this.
I personally get good leather shoes a size small bc they will stretch and conform to the foot. Same concept as the leather insole but conversed. African Rangers are dope I have a pair. The new 719s might be near exactly what I want. These I just don't want roughout. I'm wondering if they will just put all their models on the custom.bc I want a barefoot trooper in NON barefoot 😂less an inch or two up the calf with the rugged and or choice of outsole!yeesh is out too much to ask😅
I'd be glad to see you guys add a few smaller sizes - at least for the barefoot Trooper - in the future. I'm always bummed to see brands only going down to men's 7. Smaller feet need great-looking, quality veg tan boots, too!
Love these. I can’t swing $300 for them, but they sound really great. I’m definitely in the work, hike, fun, good looks boot state of mind. My boots have to be a multi tool.
The black ones look great, I’ve been wearing red wing 4473 boots for about 8 years but there not making that model anymore so these look like they’ll work great for me and if you add a safety toe I’ll definitely try them. I love the channels.
@@Bully____Maguire I do leatherwork on the side so I would just dye it myself, but I'd rather not have to try color matching it if pure black doesn't seem appropriate.
one thing with barefoot shoes is the low toe cap or not enough height in the boot for the foot in general. is there a reason barefoot shoes are so low profile in general. i havent tried your barefoot boots yet, was just looking at yours and the comparison to your rugged african troopers. nice looking boots, keep it going.
I love these boots but I decided on the AR8 because I have such a wide foot and the full grain. If the rugged is offered as a custom I might go for it with a composite toe as back ups to my JKs.
I was just realizing that you're hitting the sweet spot between teaching boot making/product design & MKBHD (for boots). I bet he'd do a collab product (for a leather tech accessory like the camera strap) and video now that I think about it.
Would you please do a collab to remake the Corcoran Tanker boots! My favorite style of straps and lacing but sadly discontinued. I think it would be a great fit!
I just ordered a pair of the Barefoot African Troopers, can't wait. Please, please make a work boot steel toe version of this boot. I spend 10 hours a day in a pair of boots that hurt my toes, no matter what boot I buy. I hate sizing up because that causes a whole set of other foot problems. You make em, I'll buy em!
When it makes it way to the custom builder portal, it'll be very easy and cheap to ask for a steel toe : the last is actually called steel toe cap ( STC) barefoot and is designed to accompdate a steel or composite toe.
Cool boots but i don't see how there's any question of comparison. They're two completely different models of boot in completely different categoriea that dont belong in the same conversation.
My brother loves his White's boots i got him, but i feel if this had a safety toe option he'd have jumped on these and probably not use the White's anymore.
These are probably infinitely more of than whites and like literally half the weight. I'd probably like these more too for everything except forrest fire fighting
For the steel toe version can you pleeeeeease do it with the toe cap as well. I really love the look and for tank of a boot like this one it s suits perfectly. I will use it for hard work and mosh pits. Promise.
Just bought my black pair 24’ dec hopefully it gets here before Christmas (fingers crossed). 🤞 my first pair so I went with a half an inch bigger just in case since I didn’t measure with socks.
Please, please, please do a safety toe version. I would be all over a heritage JG quality-built boot like this at a reasonable price that I could use when it’s often required for my employment as well as some work I do at home. Really believe that it’s an underserved opportunity.
It looks as if the lining in the front half of the boot is tucked under the insole, whereas the lining in the rear half is flared out and stitched down. Is this true, and if so, what is the rationale?
I would love for you and Jim green to split the difference and make a zero drop version of the rugged trooper. There have to be more people like me that would love all the more rugged features of the new version but still have no use for a heel and the extra weight it adds. As it stands now, I’ve been waiting for the original African trooper to be available for custom order so I can build the actual shoe I want. The original African trooper is nearly everything I’ve ever wanted / been searching for in a boot, it just isn’t quite rugged enough. Ie: thin midsole, thin outsole, single lasted, no toe stiffener, leather on the thinner side. If this boot existed I would have bought two pairs already.
If you could make a quick adjust 2 point leather sling that would be sweet. That's worth $60 easy with no hardware if the adjust tab is smooth. There's a market for that because they aren't common, definitely not western made.
@roseanvil2 I'm looking at getting a pair of Jim Greens as a hiking boot to use in Australia to use year round. Tossing up between the Rugged and the Razorback. I'm currently 130kg and have a wide foot, which boot would you recommend?

My warehouse only requires a leather toe and not safety toe and I've been abusing that for Jim green boots lol
The rugged troopers look incredible!
Based on their construction, they’re practically indestructible. Great job Gareth and Weston!
