The Universal Century was mankind's greatest tragedy. What was to be a new era of peace and understanding, made into an age of horror and bloodshed unlike anything in human history.
Man fears change and uncertainty, that's why we go thru the same cycle over and over again no matter how costly it is. And the last clause of the original UC charter opens itself to the unknown, thus all the events have transpired.

Anyone else think our timeline is suspiciously going down the same way. The leaders want a one world government, tons of people don't, space colonization is getting closer to reality, people may look to space for independence but the Earth government wouldn't want that and Japan just happens to build a life size moving Gundam maybe just to see if they could build a giant moving robot in celebration, or you know just in case their anime becomes real life.

Most people what us to be united entering space, the difference is how. The average person just want's a UN but with teeth, some to keep us united and honest but not to impost undue governance; many elite however what something more like Russia, which is a federation in name only where only they rule.

These Gundam videos are awesome they make me think of concepts to build my own Gundam some day like the 59 foot tall Gundam in Japan.I know the Gundam in Japan isn't advanced as some of these Gundam,s on the cartoon but it's a beginning to start from.Leonardo da Vinci was a genius he invented things that were way beyond his own type by harmonizing science and nature and said his subjects require experience rather than the words of other men.For example some of the concepts in the cartoon are to advanced of what or modern generation technology can do however it might be possible to make Gundam wings just like these ones by harmonizing creativity are imagination like Leonardo da Vinci did we could make Gundam wings just like these after all talent hits a target no one else can hit but genius hits a target no one else can see.

Second: I'm kind of a noob on the origins of Gundam so I want to ask a question that maybe you can explain to me. What was Zeon's ultimate goal? In the few instances I see them in action they gave this sense of superiority and that they were commanded by some kind of self proclaimed hierarchy (similar to a monarchy with Lords, Barons, and family status). So what is their goal? Their motivation for all of this?

They wanted independence from the federation at first, but the leadership that overthrew the more tolerant earlier leaders (Char's Family) wanted total destruction of the Federation instead. The Federation leadership never wanted to allow Zeon to gain any ground toward Independence either, so Both sides went out of their way to allow chaos and create it toward war.

Essentially, the universe of Gundam takes place in a timeline where overpopulation has lead mankind into occupying the orbit of Earth in multiple colonies. Because of Earth's grasp on the economy of space colonies (i.e: taxation, resource, finance) the people who lived in space colonies pretty much don't get the luxuries of living on Earth and so the people revolt by declaring independence against the Earth Federation, under the banner and beliefs of a man named Zeon Deikun. Zeon proposed a theory that mankind were destined to fly away from Earth to further evolve into a "new type" of human beings and so this notion sets the precedent of the people who lived off in space to call themselves "Spacenoids" and those who lived off on Earth to call themselves "Earthnoids". Because of this, humanity was then ushered into a new form of racial divide, which then inevitably leads to the one year war.
Build fighter will never understand but this isn't Fun. Sure the kids have fun gunpla to use but War devastates countries. They will never understand because their souls are bound to the gravity.

Why Gundam unicorn the story is set 17 years after (UC 0096) the One Year War, the speech at the start takes place 78 years before the One Year War (UC 0001)

the speech was given at the start of the Universal Century. the kid in the space suit after everything blows up is that old man with the box when he was young. its how he got the box to begin with. its just a flashback.
Unicorn takes place in UC 0096, UC 0093 is Char's Counterattack. The inclusion of Ricardo Marcinez's speech at the beginning and the following incident is the start of the downfall of what was supposed to be a great era for mankind.

I've never heard that theory before.

It established that all prior series are part of one, continuous timeline of birth, destruction and rebirth.

I think it shows even with the greatest of intentions, that being freedom from oppression, in the wrong hands, these ideals can be used in cruel ways to rather cause harm and personal gain, not freedom and liberties that the people are promised
