The Demolition Of Southlands School

- Opened in 1963 Southlands school was the newest school built on the Ormesby Road site, in 1983 it merged with another school on the same site to become Keldholme School. Later in 1986 it ceased being a school and became the Southlands Centre which provided premises and support to small businesses as well as being a local sports & community centre.in 2018 it was decided to demolish the building and build a smaller Community Hub with extra sports fields. The demolition started on 19/03/2019 and was completed on 30/07/2019.

I went to Southlands We were the first class to go from the first year to the fifth year. 63 to 68
My mummy used to work for an ironing company when I was little I’m 13 now and I last came to the Southlands for a birthday party. It was my friend Elliot’s birthday and it was in the leisure bit of the facility. It was October 13 2018 at the time.

They were amazing! They used to host birthday parties for kids and I went to a few parties there! 💜
Awe man! I was there in 1st and 2nd year, when they built to sports hall. I remember collecting the different coloured percussion caps used in the nail guns of the time. I later had a flat in the tower block in the background. These are brilliant! Thank you so much for them... I'll be working my way them 👍

I didn’t know it was a school before it was a work centre and a leisure centre. Too bad it did not have a swimming pool but otherwise it’s outstanding! Beautiful!
Berwick Hills Swimming Pool opened up in the late 1970s so the Victorian Baths, which are no more, were for School Lessons before that. Berwick Hills Baths are UNDER the Morrisons Store. Q. Where are the Modern Swimming Pools? Eston was OLDER than Berwick Hills, used to go N Bus, North Ormesby then TRTB Trolley to Eston Baths.

Where did you take photos from and you must have left camera in position ,no change of view at all ,well done
I took the photos from the window of a block of flats on Cargo Fleet Lane. Actually the camera wasn't left in position but handheld for all the shots and if you look closely there are slight various differences in the camera angle maybe I notice them more . Luckily I used the flats in the background for a good reference point.

Yesterday was November 15 and in 2018 on that day the Southlands closed for good right?
The Southlands Centre yes Dawn, the school merged with Springfield school to become Keldholme school in 1983 then closed as a school to become the Southlands Centre in 1986.
@@BigMack1959 Sorry! I’m so so sorry. I completely mis-done my comment! I meant the leisure and business centre not the school since I only got this computer that I’m using to type this in 2022 ( around 3-4 years after it closed and got torn down ) and construction of the brand new one has not started since then. Additionally active Middlesbrough which used to run this place got changed to active tees valley based at pallister park centre and everyone active has taken over most of Teessides leisure centres including the Neptune which is a few roads away from that place now.
