Change isn't always for the best...Those beautiful Victorian building...😪
Great choice of music.
Those were real happy times 😊
Brilliant. Brought back memories
Was talking to a bloke in miltons in Saltburn many many years ago ( not there now )he was grangetown born and bred , he said it was a great place to be brought up, everyone knew their neighbour and they could leave their doors open etc etc .all communities were the same back then , look at the state of them now , wish I was born 30 years earlier like the old bloke I was talking to .
Thankyou for watching and commenting. Things, places, attitudes, and respect have certainly plummeted since those days. Standards of living have much improved since those days but a spirit was lost when these places ceased to exist, a big shame.
Great Memories. I was born in Stapylton st in 1947, Went to Poachin rd primary school, then to the board school, seen in some of these photos. If I have one criticism, it is the places, and streets should have been named.
hello and Thankyou for watching. I also attended Pochin road primary school but I don't have memories of the streets. A good suggestion to include the names. I have contemplated including the street names on the 'Then' pictures in the past. I think i might for the next video. thank you once again for watching.
There were some good people in grangetown and looking at the old photos it shows that they knew how to dress decently .no tracky bottoms trainers or bling to be seen. Much better days
The community went with the buildings I spent many days penny for the guy outside Lanny's great days I feel so sad for the young people today
Great set of videos. Enjoyed the 'Blade Runner' music. This is real history, gone forever. Well done for documenting it. The comparisons between now and then locations really gives a sense of time moving on. I wonder if someone comes back and does the same in fifty years how it will have changed again. Makes me feel like time is running out 🤣 getting old I guess.
I love these, and enjoy the choice of music also
Good video I like it. Youve obviously put a lot of effort into these. I moved to grangetown a couple of years ago and its interesting to see the areas past history.
Thanks for watching. Some lovely buildings got knocked down. Middlesbrough was the same, shame really. I hope to make more videos in the future with newer old & new pictures once this lockdown is over.
Those old buildings had soul and character. How did the place become. Such a lawless craphole ?
Thanks, very moving, but it doesn’t have to be like this. We need that sense of order and pride back that those people had then. They should show these MIG videos on TV before election time, local and national.
What happened to The John Smith house we used to call The Muccypots Just outside The Clay Lane gates
Where on earth has it all gone ?? Why oh why was it all demolished ?? That’s not progress at all ?
Grangetown born and bred and a proud working class community it was back then , still lots of good people live there no doubt however Thatcherite policies smashed the place and ripped its heart out and new labour done bugger all to put it right . Unemployment breeds crime as simple as that .
Name the places before and after.
What happened to this place? It seems as if a thriving community with public buildings, schools and housing became an industrial wasteland.
Looking at Cardiff in general, you wouldn't think they have a planning department, otherwise something has gone badly wrong.
Cardiff has ditched its past, you can argue if that's good or bad, but its replaced it with something dull and characterless.
i knocked most of the buildings down on bolckow rd a lot of good vicktorian buildings
Thanks for watching. Bolckow had some lovely solid structures. Shame it’s all gone
@@MadeInGrangetown i wont to do one of south bank can u help me many thx
the trickster All i used was my mobile phone camera to take the ‘now’ pictures. The internet for the old pictures and then used an app from the App Store called ‘splice’ to make the video. I suppose better equipment would make it easier and better but that’s all i used to get started if that helps.
