I bought this guitar last weekend, and I went from Guitar Center straight to the gig (without breaking it in first), and it behaved beautifully with a great sound. No string buzz or anything. By the fifth song I was in love with it.
I've owned one for about a year now. Factory set-up action was low and light, with no fret buzz. (on mine, at least) It also holds it's tuning very well. The build quality and tones it's capable of, makes it my favorite guitar in my collection. I could have put out a few more bucks and bought the "Standard Dot" the same day, but the Studio won out because of it's clean looks, and to me, it's a bit more unique than the "Standard Dot."
My DOT Studios play very nice and I like their tone. I think they're great for a variety of styles of music. Country, hard rock, classic rock, Blues and R&B, etc... Try one.. I think you'll like it!
Dud, you kicked so much ass! I almost bought that at GC this FRIDAY! Instead I took an SG. I'll wait a few months before I get that DOT. Working my way up. You're inspiring.
You play great! Thanks for posting this. I have the same guitar. I got it off Craig's List for $120. Mine appears to have been cracked on the neck and repaired. It plays great. I have 22 other guitars and have had maybe 100 others in my life. This is the first of these I've had. My only complaint is the edge of the body is kind of sharp. But it sounds and plays fantastic, even unplugged.
I own both. I've found that the telecaster sounds better for various types of music, while the Dot should pretty much be left to blues, which is all i really play anyway
alldaysk8r I think the DOT Studio would be great for AC/DC, classic rock, and alternative. Be sure to try before you buy, of course.... but I think it will work well for the music you want to play.
I got mine I'm about to change the pickups soon and put on some gibson 57 pickups. But I love my dot studio guitar it's the bomb. I use it on my beats I make with my fender p bass.
oh yeah that's my hawg right there! that epiphone is hella sick. people underestimate it because it's like around 250 bucks but trust me it's really good. great humbucker sound and pretty good for soloing and other stuff. obviously, there are guitars that sound better but this one will do whatever you want. btw great playing!
I love the less expensive Guitars myself but changing out the pickups makes a hugh difference to the Player with good ears. Its all the fingers and amps but a good set of Seymour Duncans will bring out he tonal character of the semi-hollow body better than the stock pu. Great playing also
Nice playing man. I just picked up one of these guitars today, but I don't really know how to play yet (gotta start lessons). That's just an awesome sound you've got though.
It has a fat chunky neck. But I'm able to get the action nice and low so it plays very easy. Also the worn finish gives it a very nice broken in feel. This guitar is a joy to play!
I played one in guitar center and really like it cus of the closeness of the strings to the frets, it would be great for the pop/punk band that I sing and play for but I have one question. Because of the semi-hollowbody, can it be used as acoustic also?
It does pretty good with Distortion. I completely use my solid body guitar for distortion tho and my Dot sparingly with it. A terrific solid body guitar that I have played in metal shows and what not would be a Scheter Omen 6. It is a cheap guitar, like an Epiphone Dot, but the Omen 6 is literally the most versatile guitar I've ever played. I've played 1000 dollar guitar that didn't sound as good as my Omen 6. If playing alot of distortion most of the time... Omen 6. Both wonderful guitars tho.
Hi, I just saw your video on the Epiphone Dot Studio you're playing and was hoping you could answer some questions for me. You see I was recently recruited for a band and was wondering how would you rate the guitar overall (tone, action, playability)? Please also include emphasis on the tone from clean to distortion because the band I'm need virtually does every genre and I wanted your opinion on it seeing you have plenty of experience with the instrument. Is it also good for a lead guitarist?
This is a great, beefy-sounding guitar, but there seems to be a design flaw at the cable jack - the jack itself continually comes loose, and the fix is a tedious job requiring a screwdriver, or other long device to hold the jack from the inside, while the retaining nut is tightened from the outside.
Yes you can replace the pickups. It's a little tricky. Look up "changing pickups on a semi-hollow" on Google. There's a whole trick to it where you tie string around the volume pots and pull them out through the f-holes. Once you've done all your soldering... you can fish them back through where they need to be using the string.
U play that Stones riff like ringing a bell, did u learn that one by ear? I see it starts with an Eb9, then Csus7, but how do u play the Ab and Bb part? Do u play sus on the g-string with a barre on both, or some variation with Db and Eb in the bass, or maybe using open strings somewhere? I´m thinking of bying that guitar too.
Blue? Did you paint it blue, or is it available (or was it) in blue tolex? is it blue tweed? It looks cool. I have only seen classic series amps in black or "lacquered tweed" that is actually twill with polyurethan, and occasionally you'll see the limited edition ones in solid mahogany or maple with some kind of flame finish, but those cost tice as much, and the wood itself would only cost the company an extra 10 bucks, so I decided to build my own cab (2x15, jensen P15s) and made a C-30 head.
Went back to GC today to mess with this. You must be one lucky SOB, EVERY single DOT Studio had a knob problem. They were all falling off. The GC employee said they've been getting alot of returns on it lately. I'm gonna go with the Ibanez Artcore Hollow body. It's beautiful and is basically a Gretsch White Falcon knockoff at a fraction of the price. I still wish I played like you though. LOL
how is your action set? got one of these yesterday and i still feel the bridge and pickup heights arn't quite right for me. out of the box the bridge and bridge pickup were set very high
hi there! im a learning guitarist and i would like to know what you thought of this guitar because I am very interested in buying this guitar. I like to play some hard rock (i.e. AC/DC)and some other alternative stuff. I would like to know if you think this guitar woulud fit my needs. Thanks!
i know your video description says you have stock pickups but do you know how to change pickup in a semi hollow body guitar i cant find anything on how to do it
I was looking for Epiphone Dot demos...I have a PV Classic 30 and was thinking of replacing the speaker with something more Brit-sounding, so this is a mild coincidence, I guess.
oops, i only heard a bit the first time,,now i hear its "pick up the pieces"..but with that tone,it sounds alot like night court...is it just me?lol guitar sounds awesome either way..i want one

Like your videos alot. You really highlight the best tones of those semi-hollow bodies. Awesome playing!
I love that guitar and thanks for the great show your great guitarist
ordered a dot studio from germany 4-5 days ago, got it yesterday. Getting home tonight, can't wait to play it :D
Some fun jingles in there for sure... great tone great guitar great playing GREAT JOB!

i love the minimalist look on the DOT..great playing man!!keep it up
My DOT Studios play very nice and I like their tone. I think they're great for a variety of styles of music. Country, hard rock, classic rock, Blues and R&B, etc... Try one.. I think you'll like it!
I have this exact guitar - decided to get back into playing after 10+year absence from playing.
Fan-TASTIC! You've entirely turned me around on this guitar - I've been avoiding even trying it!
big boys got some chops.
Nice sound! I just got a Dot Studio yesterday I love it!
Most enjoyable demo - ever!
i've been looking at these studio dots, they realy have great tone
Dud, you kicked so much ass! I almost bought that at GC this FRIDAY! Instead I took an SG. I'll wait a few months before I get that DOT. Working my way up. You're inspiring.
Again, excellent play and fingerwork. Really enjoy the selection of music. 3 Dot's, you should be a Epi spokesperson
Nice ...I dig the studio version too.
ive been looking into getting one of theese for ages and u just gave me a reason to buy 1 haha cheers m8

I want to see the demo with the speaker on the overdrive channel

That sounds really good, thanks for posting this.
You have a great tone brother.
Pretty funky bro. You have quite the EPI collection.
alldaysk8r I think the DOT Studio would be great for AC/DC, classic rock, and alternative. Be sure to try before you buy, of course.... but I think it will work well for the music you want to play.

really cool, sounds awesome !
Fav !
thats what makes it cheap, no inlays, no separate volumes and no pickguard. That what makes it cool!
very nice !
keep on rockin
ps. the song is brown sugar by the stones
I just bought this guitar yesterday because of this video :)
I have the same guitar, just barely got it. Loooove it! Also, excellent playing!
Awesome playin mate, lovely guitar n sound!!
@maciverandy the action is fully adjustable. And I have it set pretty low on mine.
you rock! thats my dream guitar
I love the less expensive Guitars myself but changing out the pickups makes a hugh difference to the Player with good ears. Its all the fingers and amps but a good set of Seymour Duncans will bring out he tonal character of the semi-hollow body better than the stock pu. Great playing also
studio better than the regular and looks cooler to
Nice playing man. I just picked up one of these guitars today, but I don't really know how to play yet (gotta start lessons).

Awesome. That epi sounds freakin great! I still think you should bust out some Im going home. Oh yeah!

on most semi-hollows, you have to go through the F-hole, but on the Tom Delonge signature, there's a control plate in the back
thank you very much!
and by the way, your sick at the guitar!!!!
"Brown Sugar" was recorded in Open G tuning. I've tried playing it in E before I knew that, and it was damned near impossible for me... Cheers!
Blue? Did you paint it blue, or is it available (or was it) in blue tolex? is it blue tweed? It looks cool. hi there!
im a learning guitarist and i would like to know what you thought of this guitar because
I am very interested in buying this guitar.
I like to play some hard rock (i.e. AC/DC)and some other alternative stuff. I would like to know if you think this guitar woulud fit my needs. Thanks!
good playing man!
i know your video description says you have stock pickups but do you know how to change pickup in a semi hollow body guitar i cant find anything on how to do it
hahaha he looks like he's having fun :D
How do you feel the mahogany body on this guitar compares to the usual maple body and necks on the sheratons?
Brown Sugar by the rolling Stones.
Played pretty well
The Dot Studio only has single volume and tone controls, and the finishes and hardware are more ornate on the standard Dot line.
Got one & i could not agree MORE
where did you get the tabs for brown sugar?
or just your music in general
Hi
I'm a fellow Dot Studio owner. I was wondering what string gauges you use?
Cheers!
im thinkin about buyin this guitar, i was wondering do they have the dot fret markers along the top of the neck?
should i get this guitar i plan on playing metal but i like the style of this does it sound good with distortion????? please answer
Haha man of many talents :-D
what's the difference between this and the regular epiphone dot?
Thanks. Will Do. Have a good one :)
man i totally miss this guitar i found out my maid broke it today !!! =( keep playing you rock aa by the way if you finally got tabs send em please!!!
What was the second song you played?
wich you recomend? this dot studio or a ibanez artcore. i want to buy one of this, but i want to be sure of my election.
i would like to buy a dot..shoul i take the dot studio or only the regular dot?
If the build quality is anything like recent Gibson Les Pauls, then yes.
And does it have dots in the 3rd, 5th, 7th.... frets?
good play! ... I got the black one...
Sounds great, but I like the way the normal, elitist, and deluxe Dots look better.
i like the funk man
what's the song called at 0.55?
is it a good guitar for ska and reggae?
What´s the diifferent´s between a ES 335 and a DOT
What was the first song you played sir?
sweet jorts bro
Yes there are dot markers along the top of the neck. I'd hardly be able to play it otherwise... LOL!!
@dcooper830 How did you adjust the action?
1:43 What is the name of that song?
I was looking for Epiphone Dot demos...I have a PV Classic 30 and was thinking of replacing the speaker with something more Brit-sounding, so this is a mild coincidence, I guess.
I really wish they made an es 175 out of mahogany with the red stain.
@bradyray1984: It's "Pick Up The Pieces" by Average White Band. And I'm NOT playing it correctly....... as I later came to realize.....
what if i get a metal master distortion pedal????
are they easy to break?
could you perform with this?
is this worn cherry? thanks :)
oops, i only heard a bit the first time,,now i hear its "pick up the pieces"..but with that tone,it sounds alot like night court...is it just me?lol
guitar sounds awesome either way..i want one
oh look! Kevin James learned how to play guitar
