Hopefully I’ll get my hydrangea hedge this year. My husband insists we need evergreens so we compromised and will alternate between evergreens and limelights. Yours is such an inspiration.
We have had a very wet Spring here so far! I sure hope it stays kinda cool from now on and yes, same number zones can be so different even in the same state
Yes. It is work. But think what it will look like in a month or two. I was stuck cleaning inside yesterday and today. 😒 but not tomorrow! 😊 You are doing what Gardner's do because they love their plants.😊
Those hydrangeas are hung upside down as dried winter flowers. Please do them😍🤩 I really the way you pruned them 😘 Place into vases as a table arrangement and on top of the fridge
I planted a Hydrangea hedge under my bedroom window yesterday with 5 Paniculata ‘Sundae Fraise’ hoping it works out with what I envisioned 🙏🤞😊 Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
I was telling my brother- Isn't it crazy that we trim all our trees collect all the branches, cut them up and throw them away. Then we go out and buy sticks for the Garden? We've been saving them ever since. 😊👍
Loving that Intro song playing when you first started cutting ur Hydrangea Tree., plz share the song list so I can play it while I kill, I mean Prune my plants, Lol
Wow that was some radical pruning! They will look amazing. 2 more inches of snow tonight in Wisconsin and then hopefully I can get some real spring too 😁! Thank you for the video 🌷🌷🌷
Lots if work! I trim mine back to about 12 inches from the ground, I just look for some nodes and cut above them. It would be pretty to have some as a hedge though! Jill
Hello Roxana! 👋 Pls do an update of your “happy accident” limelight that you made into a standard 😍🥰 thank you and I cant wait to see your garden videos this summer.. love from Ga🤍
I will! I am just waiting until it warms up just a bit this week, there is a bit of snow on the ground here :/ but that is one of the videos I plan to do!
I keep trying to convince my fiancé to let me grow a limelight hedge like yours between ours and the neighbors property but he doesn’t want to at this property so maybe at the next house. I absolutely love yours though. I am going to be planting a limelight likely this year in our backyard so I’m still happy!
You really cool, you do a wonderful job in your garden. I'm in zone 6b and i'm looking forward to see my limelight's too. I would like to see your tulips this spring.
Thank you for another satisfying hydrangea pruning video! 👏 🙌 ❤️ Keep us updated on the hydrangea stick you used as trellis last time and it took root. I think you were going to train it into a standard.
Excellent job. You must have very strong arm, hand and wrist muscles. You made that look so easy. Those pruners look easy to handle. They must be very sharp. Did you get them on Amazon?
So I just subscribed to your channel. I found you when looking for Limelight tutorials. I watched your video of when you got these on clearance (lucky you) and planted them. I must ask if you were more cautious back then when pruning? Now your just a pro whacking them back😂 Mine aren't as big only about 3ft tall so I'm going to be terrifed in spring when I need to prune bc I want them to get huge. They will be for a hedge and wish they were 8ft already.😊 Wanting to know how your experiment went on propagating all the hydrangea? Did any take root and survive? So lucky you made a happy accident with the trellis. It only took 1 year to look like a standard. Amazing! I've seen many ppl that do this and theirs is way smaller than yours after 2 years even. Looking forward to more video's. Thank you for sharing.
LOL The ones I found on clearance went straight to my parents garden, they are still little and growing and I hardly touch those in the Spring because I want them to grow quickly! These here I planted them back in 2016 and they are amazing! I think the propagation trials are better when done with cuttings from the Spring, but a lot of people have luck during any time of the year so give it a try! I LOVE my little accident!
Can you share with me the clippers that you are using? It seems that they are a double click (ratchet-like) to get through thicker stems. I need something for some thicker branches. Thanks!
I noticed you left clusters (albeit stubs) at the end of many really thick stems. I know we're supposed to cut off stems/branches smaller than a pencil, but would that encourage lots of weak, skinny stems on the end of that cluster? I'm still learning about pruning trees and shrubs (after 30 years of gardening). I lost a 20-year-old PeeGee hydrangea standard last year. I hadn't pruned it as aggressively as I should have so the misshapen thing split under the heavy weight of blooms. I want to do better with my newer hydrangeas. Please, help me. 😳 I, too, planted a variety of panicle hydrangeas to create a privacy wall. Only two years in on them, so relatively young compared to yours. There's still hope for me.
Yes, I left some SHORT cluster that are not going to be "bending" with an weight on them, if that makes sense... they are relatively short next to the main trunk... if they were left around 12" or so then they would be just flopping around with the new branches growing from them.
These are panicle hydrangeas and they bloom on new wood, there are other types of hydrangeas that bloom on OLD wood, those you gotta leave alone in the Spring, check your variety!
Your videos are so well done. I also like trimming a lot of my plants in vase shape so it is narrower at the bottom. I can then plant more low growing things around them & keep an eye out for snakes too. I never thought to do this with my limelight until your videos. I noticed you trimmed down to a previously trimmed point. Won't over time that lead to a thick knobby point, kind of like people sometimes do with crepe myrtles? Or do you use that main stem for a few seasons & then trim it out?
I have been doing the same type of pruning for the last few years, the branches that I leave as main leader do get thicker and I like that because they get stronger. I might have to start leaving a couple of skinny ones next season am just so they can start becoming main string stems too.
Do u have a problem with branches flopping with the heavy flowers after such an aggressive pruning yearly? I just planted little limes last yr so I’m trying to learn what works best. Thank you!
It’s actually not so aggressive of a prune and no, I leave the strong trunks only so they do the heavy lifting for the huge flowers, if I left all the weak skinny stems those could get too heavy and flop.
Love the music choice!!! Have a great rest of your week!!🌷🌷🌷
I was coming to say the very same thing.
Thank you! You too!
the music was so wonderful. Thank you for the video it was good to see how to prune them.
Thank you! 🔥🔥
Hopefully I’ll get my hydrangea hedge this year. My husband insists we need evergreens so we compromised and will alternate between evergreens and limelights. Yours is such an inspiration.
Thank you! I love evergreens too!
It's always amazing to me how your Zone5 and my Zone5 are so very different this time of year.
We have had a very wet Spring here so far! I sure hope it stays kinda cool from now on and yes, same number zones can be so different even in the same state
@@SoilandMargaritas I'd rather your Zone5, our snow and freezing rain is nuts this year.

100% Thank you!
Omg! I thought I was merciless pruning a few days ago! Now my mind is at ease since you are way more experienced than I am.
Si, la floras y musica!

Awesome pruning (and music).
Also like the ASMR-like clipping sounds, et al.
😘🌿 thank you!
This hedge is absolutely beautiful Roxana! I just did mine last weekend.
Awesome! Happy Gardening!
Thank you…
I have one of those in my backyard and it’s the size of a tree! I love the beautiful bouquets it makes though!
So cool!
Great video Roxanna!!
I just found your channel... There are many gardening channels but not many in zone 5...I'm enjoying ur videos! 🌷🌷🌷
Thank you! And welcome! 🌿🌿🌿
It’s been cold and windy here as well!

"Tomame con razon" by SON HABANA :)
I’ve never seen hydrangeas that tall. They’re huge but gorgeous.
They sure are!
You gave me the direction to take on pruning this afternoon. I’ve been procrastinating this chore for too long.👏🏻
💪🏼💪🏼 you got this!
Nice job, Roxanna! I whack mine back in late fall before the snow flies! Saves a mess in the Spring for me!
👏👏 I like mine to give me a bit of privacy during winter and I LOVE them covered in snow.
Wow that was some radical pruning! They will look amazing. 2 more inches of snow tonight in Wisconsin and then hopefully I can get some real spring too 😁! Thank you for the video 🌷🌷🌷
I think we are finally getting some Spring weather here in Indiana, but up there in Chicago they had some snow on Saturday... CRAZY!
Beautiful! Can’t wait to see them filled in. Happy planting this 22 season! ❤️🦋🌻🐝

Panicle hydrangeas are very forgiving!
I would love to be your neighbor, what a view. Good thing we know these shrubs rebound fast.
They sure do! I feel exposed now with the hedge gone!

They are getting close to show me some blooms, still a bit of time before I do a tulip tour.
You always do an excellent job Roxanna 🌸💕🌸
Thank you friend!
Hi Rosina, do you have any videos on how to train a limelight shrub into a standard? I'm interested in trying that with one of my shrubs.
I have some videos under my hydrangeas playlist about one hydrangea that propagated.
Que hermosa la musica! Me encanta la primera cancion. Quien es el cantandor?
Voy a checar!
Thank you for another satisfying hydrangea pruning video! 👏 🙌 ❤️ Keep us updated on the hydrangea stick you used as trellis last time and it took root. I think you were going to train it into a standard.
I did shape it a bit last year and I hope it comes back even more amazing this year.
Excellent job. You must have very strong arm, hand and wrist muscles. You made that look so easy. Those pruners look easy to handle. They must be very sharp. Did you get them on Amazon?
I didn’t! I got them from Hoselink USA, ratchet pruners, they do half of the work for me I feel.
Maybe some hairspray on the dry hydrangas and use them for home decor 🤷
Compost pile!
