What I’d give to have that much ginger…..I grow on my deck…..I’m thinking I need more grow bags or buckets!!!! I’d give anything to grow that much ginger! Congratulations on the beautiful dahlia corms (?) you got!!!! You really rock!!!
Your videos are extremely helpful. My sad Autumn discovery of puny dahlia tubers and ginger roots smaller than when they were planted must be due to the one gallon containers in which they were planted.
I grew ginger in Canada because of your videos! I should have bought organic because I soaked regular grocery store tubers for days in February, nothing happened and I gave up on it. Even took one back out for a stir fry. Left the rest in a pot in the sun and it didn't sprout until late July hah. It looks great now, but the roots are only dime sized so I will try bringing the pot indoors over winter to see, maybe get a head start next year and spread them in the ground. Thanks for the garden inspiration 😃
Wow such a great ginger harvest. We haven't had a hard frost yet so mine are still green. Seeing you harvested them while green, I may just pull them now as I'm so curious about the harvest.
Lol, yes, no need to grow more dahlias😂😂. I dug them and the ones planted in clay soil Really got Big! The native soil is sandy. I also struggle with finding a perfect cool location to store any root crops and bulbs. We made an above ground root cellar and worked ok last year except it was very humid. We added another vent for air flow but concerned it may get too cool now. What I will try is I’m leaving some gladiolus in the ground and should have left one dahlia to see if they will overwinter. No big money in either so worth a go. If I had them in pots I would sink them in ground and mulch either way. I researched a bit and some have success in Z5 but the last 2 winters were warm. We will see-I did have a few baby corms of glads over winter from last year. I just left the dirt on mine shaking most off. Thinking it will help insulate them. However, will definitely need to clean them a bit if they need splitting as they really do multiply. I planted 4 in a statue rose garden and then I heard they can get ‘gall’ that can spread to roses. Unfamiliar but sure wouldn’t want that. I’m going for a pink, peach, white theme in this statue garden and was considering buying a few nice dahlias in those colors as they were such a Joy going into fall, but now I’m not sure if this gall is a problem here if I should. I’ve never seen gall before so not even sure what to look for and will need to research. This is the second year of digging those dahlias from seed and think I may leave those in ground next year and get only 3 special ones for project. They are pricey. I was holding my breath when you were prying them out of urns 😂, I would freak if it cracked 🤯 I am not big on ginger and it does take a bit of getting use to, but you have a nice harvest of them. I make ginger molasses cookies 😅. How will you preserve or store them-freeze? Dehydrate?
Hey! I don’t think so, I am going to freeze most of it now (diced) it’s just a lot easier to get a few pieces from the organic section at the grocery store. That’s why I have been using the last 3 years
We grow Ginger & Turmeric in huge pots also , here in central Virginia . They both do fantastic every year !
Very good ❤❤ so good flower .love to gliwer

This is great. I love that you give us so much information without you. I couldn’t have done it.
I am happy to hear that! Thank you!
Wow the tubers are amazing how it grows. It's amazing how they multiply. So, it's just trial and error. Thank you for sharing.🩷

What do you use the ginger for? Interesting. I’ve never seen ginger harvested before.
Thank you so much for sharing! Are you planning on saving any of your ginger to replant in the spring?
