Not even really that. People often view others less positively than they actually are, for their own personal comfort. Can't tell you how much this actually happens, especially if you're exceptional.
Henry Cavil tested this in NYC. He stood in Time Square wearing a superman shirt under the Man of Steel Billboard, someone asked him for directions seemingly without knowing who he is.

I felt for Lana the moment Clark said he came back to Smallville for Lana but that he saw that she was with Kyle by that point. You can almost hear Lana's heart getting crushed a bit by the realization of what she missed out on having with Clark. Not because he's Superman, but because he's Clark...and it's Clark that goes around saving people!
When lana said that just not enough what she was saying was that he didn't fight for her when he came back nor did he trust her enough to tell her the truth before he left it was to go to show that he didn't love her as much as she thought he did when they were younger I mean you got to look at it from her point of view Clark trusted Lois enough to tell her his entire secret and everything but didn't trust Lana enough that's a slap 🤷
When she was banging a new bf and engaged, she expected Clark to tell her the truth and beg her back. That is insanity. For all those who believe that Lana should have been the one, recognize that Lana hadn't even been created yet when Lois and Superman had already been a full blown foundational love story, more importantly it is the Lois' character and personality that empowers Superman to handle his greatest challenges. Lana is the pure, naïve, exhilarating puppy love that we all go through. Lois is the grounded love story that grows. matures, and nurtures.

First he didn't know what he would be himself then she was engaged to Kyle. In hindsight she of course wanted Clark to tell her back then and break her and Kyle up but that comes from a place of disappointment not love.
@prolastmedia6171 Excuse me, but Emmanuelle Chriqui has been, and pretty much still is “all that", in my humble opinion. Much more than this Lois (even though the actress does a great job, and on an emotional level she works phenomenally with that Tyler guy in the show).
I love how this series always stayed true to the friendship and history that Clark and Lana shared. Like, it always felt like two friends picking up where they left off, but older. And I love that the show was so aware of the fact that Clark and Lana DID have this history and that it wasn't just put on the back burner for the entirety of the show.
Wow, when Clarke stood there , trying to find the courage to tell Lana the truth......his acting was so good.....took me back to every time I tried to ask a girl out that I liked....
Honestly I don’t blame Clark he wanted to tell Lana Countless times about his powers and it’s heritage. But he didn’t know how she would react. Yes he left Smallville but he did came back to her but she was married or at least engaged So he started over and Lois was part of the reason why he was fulfilling his destiny of becoming earth’s greatest hero. Clark felt bad every day for not telling her his secret. Honestly what was Lana truly upset about the fact that Clark kept his secret from her since childhood and depriving her of the chance to truly understand him or that he did not come back to her and moved on with Lois or the mixture of both and felt cheated out of what could’ve been between them.
In the comics she knew his secret but she walked away then she tries to wreck his marriage to Lois because she couldn't let him go. Clark was over her & his mom had to set Lana straight that she needed to on I recently found out Lana was or is having a relationship with John Henry aka Steel.
What Lana really mad about is how her life transpired compared to what it could of been. She would never had worry about Clark cheating on her. Everybody wants a superman but walk right pass Clark kent.

It wasn't because he didn't love her. It was because he loved what was right more than her. The very reason she loved him is the reason he stayed away from her....he's a good person.
That's the lesson of something like Phantom of the Opera. Love is equally selfish and selfless. The selfless part being... the ability to let that person go when necessary, and care about their happiness more than your own. Clark did that, even though I'm sure he was hurting to see her with Kyle. What a decent man.
Love this show. The writing and the casting is spot-on. I hope they renew it. When I was a kid, I loved Smallville and thought it was under-appreciated. I've re-watched it since and still think that's true. I think the same is true of this iteration. The family and older relationships really make it work, IMO. The stories are really good with the superhero stuff being both integral but secondary. That's a recipe that should provide legs for an, otherwise, well explored mythology. @Omega Mutant What? Kal-El disguising himself works on EVERYONE. PERIOD. It doesn't matter how either of them feel about it, him wearing the glasses and having that persona makes people literally incapable of thinking it's actually Superman. The kids didn't notice until he physically removed the glasses in front of them. They both loved him, and couldn't tell the difference until he did that. It's a drama fueled TV show. However, if you were to routinely go to an AA meeting (I'm not insinuating anything about you specifically, this is just an example) with a beard and then the fifth or sixth meeting come clean shaven, I'd be willing to bet most of the people there wouldn't recognize you right away. Kyle was never Lana's first choice therefore was more than likely never happy with him, especially in light of knowing that Clark is Superman. Oh ya, she's definitely in her feelings!
2:182:27 I found those moments to be a bit unfair for her to say due to the fact that she was with someone else and that clark didn't wanna be that guy that disrupted another man's happiness with her not to mention complicate her simple life with being an extraterrestrial superhero; he not only showed himself to be a gentleman but a true man of honor! 🔥💯😉😁👍
The fact that Lana said “just not enough” means she doesn’t get it. He loved her so much that he didn’t want to jeopardize her happiness by him being selfish. That’s true love, that he wanted her to be as happy as possible even if it wasn’t with him
But he never fought for her. He just ran. Again. She only was with Kyle because Clark ran away in the first place. Then he comes back and doesn't fight for her. So the question is actually justified. @@LethalByChoice My point is that you can't come at her without understanding where she is emotionally at that moment. In that episode she was kidnapped and feared for her life. Then she got told her friend she grew up with is Superman. Whilst all this is happening she is in the midst of seperating from the father of her children. She isn't really in her right mind at that moment. Her solution in her head was that she could've avoided all that drama if Clark broke her and Kyle up back then. No offense, but that's so beyond selfish on Lana's part. This is everything wrong with the modern hot take on relationships: it's all about what makes ME happy, and no real thought to what you're bringing to the other person in the relationship. No thoughts on whether she's actually good for Clark, and no ownership for her choice to simply move on with the next available guy. No... her view is that Clark should have told her, broken up her engagement, and there's not even a shred of consideration of whether she'd actually be a good partner for him. In fact, instead of valuing any of his journey and opinion, she just puts all the blame squarely on him that he didn't "love her enough". If you needed evidence on why this version of Lana is a poor match for Clark, this is it.
Dude, chill. Cut her some slack and recognize the position she is in. She just learned she could've avoided all the drama and hurt she experienced with Kyle. This isn't about being selfish, this is about feeling alone. It's a "Why always me" moment.

They didn’t share their vulnerabilities, their darkest secrets./fears whereas with Lois and Clark, they shoulder each other’s darkness and carry it together.
When you see everything with rose tinted glasses a red flag looks just like a flag.
So well said
LANA : How did I not see this
Clark : Its the Glasses, best desguise ever created
Seriously though, Anthony Starr looks like an absolutely different person with glasses. Henry Cavill also tried wearing a Superman T-shirt under the Batman V Superman huge poster, yet no one recognized him. I'd say it is indeed the perfect disguise.

You can almost hear Lana's heart getting crushed a bit by the realization of what she missed out on having with Clark. Not because he's Superman, but because he's Clark...and it's Clark that goes around saving people!
Yet she puts it all on him saying "Just Not Enough."

Superman&Lois
I just watched this episode this past week. This season finished strong. Really excited to see what they do with this show going forward :)
God this series is so good
I hate it when people put their regrets on to someone else. Clark didn't try to get her back because she was engaged to someone else. He honored and respected that commitment.
That said, Lana is kind of a dick in that last scene. Comes off as a little incongruous even if her character is hurt.

Right. He “didn’t love her enough” to beg her to dump Kyle to go back to him. You don’t ask someone to break up a happy relationship to please yourself, but that’s what she wanted - the chance to do just that.
tbf you also have to understand where she is coming from. She wasn't in love with Kyle anymore. He hurt her by cheating and of course with all that in mind she would've wanted for Clark to break them up. If she was happily married at that moment instead, she probably wouldn't have reacted that way.

But he never fought for her. He just ran. Again. She only was with Kyle because Clark ran away in the first place. Then he comes back and doesn't fight for her. So the question is actually justified. Him telling her that he is Superman was just a disguise to hide how hurt she truly is that he didn't fight for her.
@@JSmellerM What was he supposed to do? Come back and beg her to take him back and be a home wrecker?
No, Clark did the mature thing and let her move on rather than fuck with her life by putting himself between her and Kyle.
Idk what you're point is with the "comes back and doesn't fight for her" as if he was supposed to get her to take him back and break up their marriage.
Look sometimes its just too late. Clark was gone for a long time and she was already married to Kyle. It doesn't matter if she still had feelings for him, it's about having integrity.
It wouldn't have been right but she isn't thinking right at the moment and you should account for that. Instead she is judged like she said those things after sleeping on everything.
Lana deserves so much more
*This is the one CW show that has exceeded my expectations. I am so grateful that it's more traditional.*
This is the best superman show ever!
Lana - "Why didn't you come back for me?"
Clark - "I did. You were with Kyle."
Lana - "You should have told me!" / "Did you ever love me?" / "Just not enough."
Seriously!?
"Just not enough."
Really? Instead of saying "Thanks for respecting the sanctity of my marriage."?
How can she say he didn’t love her enough when he came back and she had moved on first? 😂
Clark didnt give her any information though. He didnt say goodbye, didnt tell her where he went or if he will ever come back. Clark realized his true purpose (which is to be Superman) and just left her. So yes he didnt love her enough to include her in his life moving forward
How did anybody looking out of any of those windows in the area? Not see that? Bit more secluded place next time, Clark
"Did you ever love me?"
"of course I did"
"just not enough"
"um...quite the opposite. Too much. Too much to give you this life, this burden, to put you in danger, to bring you worry and heartache, to breakup what you had with Kyle. I loved you too much. You want to play the victim so badly, you can't reason on the truth"
Ah yes the magical glasses of concealment
Ah yes the cliché response.
Smallville will forever be my superman show... its just not the same without the original crew...
As far as excuses for leaving goes, it was a pretty good one.
(Lana finds out he's superman ) Next reaction....."Why did you leave me?""" wtf??????? Dude literally bears his soul and she makes it about her????? Writers stretching out tension in the dumbest way possible that makes absolutely no sense.....
If anybody....and I do mean anybody..... found out that someone they care about has been saving the world for over 20 years, you wouldn't rush to villainize them .....you'd ask more questions, be sympathetic, literally anything else than attack them! Thoughts???
I wouldn’t really call that attacking him. It’s very clear she had feelings for him and it probably hits even more now that she’s divorced, nobody likes being kept in the dark by the people closest to them. But that’s just my 2 cents
Sounds like she’s thinking about what could have been
@@Step43099 I think that is the whole episode. She is mad at Lois for going out of the way but also lying to her or keeping a wall up and then to find out your best friend and an ex never was open with her had to hurt as well.
It was a defining mystery of her young life, I think, and she never had any closure for it.
What you mean "that makes absolutely no sense"? It doesn't have to make sense, 'cause people don't make sense. The only question: Is it realistic a realistic? Yes, it is...
It's so easy to let people see what they want to see. Whether you're an amazing set of self learning software(brainiac) or a rich kid with issues. Letting people think what they want will almost always give you an edge.
Lana thinking he is Clark: Hooked up while he was gone. Lana finding out he is Superman: "Why didn't you come back for me?" Figures.
He left without any explanation. What was she going to do...pine away for him staring at the picture window waiting for him to return? Lana moved on because heartache can be unbearable. Clark came back, saw her with Kyle and he too moved on. There's NOTHING hypocritical or duplicitous about what Lana said. What if Clark came back before Lana settled for Kyle?
@@victorpradha9946 Fair Point. I assumed (maybe wrongly) that Clark left with the idea he was coming back and that she was aware. I may have missed where he just up and left without telling anyone.
@@zenquester3896 Clark's reason for leaving is what tied his hands. He left because the crystals called to him and he was to embark on his destiny to become Superman, to discover his heritage as a Kryptonian and learn that is first true name is Kal-El, the Last Son of Krypton. At that age, what could Clark have said to Lana, especially when he had NO IDEA when or IF he would return. I truly believe, at that age, Clark did truly love Lana, and she loved him. So the two share a bond of unrequited love and what might have been. I believe Lana sees Jordan and Jonathan as the sons she might have had and Clark sees Sarah and Sophie as the daughters he might have had.
But it is with Lois that Clark finds harmony with his identity as Kal-El, as Clark Kent, as Superman and as a father and a husband and a son!
@@victorpradha9946 , this is perfect. That’s really well written point.
@@victorpradha9946 I think they’re trying to say that Lana is more angry now that she knows he’s Superman but she never expressed resentment when she originally knew he was back before learning his secret. Had her marriage with Kyle been okay at this point I don’t think she’d be really angry but it’s understandable now because she feels she chose the wrong guy since he cheated on her.
If they were younger like in their teenage years she would’ve reacted more, surprised and shocked. But they’re older now so she took it really well
Dude got a planet to save
Chick : you don't love me enough
Sounds about right
Lana from the Smallville series was like this a lot of the time.
Lana is someone Clerk wanted
But Lois is someone both superman and Clerk needed.
2:11 “You should have told me.”
Translation: I would have married you instead if I knew.
It is weird how a pair of glasses can fool people
Weird, but true.
In Smallville series Clark and Lana relationship is really I rooting for, ugh I miss Smallville series
All these years Clana is alive and well
Maybe things can change between them if the try again
Honestly there is 1 Lana for me when it comes to this, and that is Kristen Kreuk.
How the hell can you not recognize Clark is Superman
Especially when you grew up with the man
Galactically stupid?
In the comics the glasses are from krypton. Which hypnotizes the people who sees him. They see a different face when seeing Clark Kent
It was explained once I believe he subtly changes everything about himself.. when he’s in his clark persona his posture presence voice tone mannerism demeanor everything changes..gestures etc even how he walks couple that with him staying out of the way an Not bringing attention to himself that’s how it was explained anyway. when he’s superman his whole aura and energy changes like perception is everything..ppl probably have him built up as something in his mind an his crazy inhuman outlandish feats of strength make it apparent he’s Not like them.
You got to remembers he a kryptonian playing at being a human Not a real human. This influences things too.
That.s is the question we all ask why did anybody both in smallville or were he worked even lex did not now it was superman with glasses for a long time
