I wouldn't be surprised by that just look at the way he has his thumb around the neck while playing. You gotta use the thumb to support the other fingers. It's hard to overcome that habit but it's worth it in the long run

It takes quite of courage to go out there and play your heart out for 2 hours or more while re learning your discography from 30 years ago in your late 50s. Most of us don’t have to deal with that pressure and can do as many takes as we want at our own pace in our own bedrooms. Live musicians don’t have that luxury.

Kirk is such a polarizing guitarist. I think he just has a talent for making catchy and memorable music with a very recognizable sound. I don’t consider him a very talented guitarist for the league he’s in, but I love Metallica and what Kirk brings to the table. I do think that when he abandons the distorted boomer bends and basic alternate picking for a slower, more melodic solo his talent shows much more…such as the unforgiven, the first MOP solo and Nothing Else Matters. Most every heavy solo from him sounds like a half hearted improv jam, stuck in the same boxes and structure…but I still enjoy most of them.

He has a distinctive tone and style, doesn’t play unnecessarily (constantly trying to show off or random weird riffs that don’t fit musically), good stage presence (great crowd interaction) and I could keep going. He’s a real team player and hasn’t done anything to receive such animosity in my opinion. Great guitarist.

When everybody is trying hard to play and sound like their guitar hero.. Kirk just be himself.. To those who think he's not a good guitar player, try play Battery and you will realise even some of your guitar hero can't play that song
I idolized Kirk when I don't know how to play like them. I didn't like Kirk's playing style when I heard Megadeth sounded more complex and methodical. At the end of the day, their riffs and some notable Kirk solos made it iconic and I can still like Metallica and Megadeth at the same time. My favorite Kirk's guitar solo was Eye of the Beholder. Short but sweet.
I prefer almost all his solos to Mustaine, can he still solo in the vein of Friedman, just not out there with vague Middle Eastern or Asian modes. I however, think Poland is better than him, Kirk and Mustaine.
Chris Poland and Marty Friedman have written amazing solos but Kirk's imapat me more, as for Mustaine he writes amazing riffs and songs but I've never liked any of his leads

The solos in Kill 'em All were basically Dave's adapted to Kirk's style. Kirk had great solos in the 80s because he was playing like he had something to prove. Kirk had great solos in the 90s because Bob Rock pushed him to be his best. But then it all went to 💩 from St Anger because they didn't let him solo. After that it's as if he just phoned it in for most of his solos. Although I get why he went crazy in the Lux AEterna solo. The band were having fun with the song and Kirk did something silly that made everyone laugh and have more fun. Two of my favourite solos were not included in this video: Damage Inc and The Shortest Straw.

Kirk’s solo in the outlaw torn is one of his best, very underrated. It’s so expressive, creatively unique and has great tone. I like it much more than James’ solo.

The solos in Kill 'em All were basically Dave's adapted to Kirk's style. Kirk had great solos in the 80s because he was playing like he had something to prove. Kirk had great solos in the 90s because Bob Rock pushed him to be his best. But then it all went to 💩 from St Anger because they didn't let him solo. After that it's as if he just phoned it in for most of his solos. Although I get why he went crazy in the Lux AEterna solo. The band were having fun with the song and Kirk did something silly that made everyone laugh and have more fun. Two of my favourite solos were not included in this video: Damage Inc and The Shortest Straw.
