****UPDATE just a heads up I overstated the brightness difference of the 60d vs the 60x it is closer to a 25% difference. That being said I would still choose the 60d in most situations that call for this kind of light. Thanks guys for pointing this out in the comments!
I surely cant be the only person who read the caption on the thumbnail for this video as 'Reasons why God is the best light for video.'
Thank you so much for this review. I am a documentary solo shooter with a ton of travel in between and you have helped me decide to go for the 60d over the 60x.
I was wondering how do you know what Vmount battery to purchase? I am looking to power externally like you, but have not used v mount batteries before. There are a ton of "Sony V mount batteries" online, so I am not sure how to know which battery is compatabile with the Amaran 60d. Thank you!!
Thank you much for the great review, I'm actually very interested in buy this one for my UA-cam videos but now I'm concerned since you said it's not really for a key light and it's good as a fill light!!
For UA-cam videos it will work great as a key light! That statement was more for people trying to do narrative production
Question: someone said online that as power decreases on the v mount battery the light will turn off . So if v mount gets to 80% for example
The light will turn off on you . Not sure if it’s true
Hello Geoff, thank you for your great video. Quick question, what light kit (3 points) do you recommend for documentary/interviews/weddings, and what is the better needed light power to be able to get a good picture?!
Thank you in advance and God bless.
Hi Pierre, I discuss this a little bit at the end of the video, however a few good options would be 1 60d, 1 100d and 1 200x, another would be 2 60d and 1 200x or 2 60d and 1 60x. there are many examples and options however it comes down to your budget. Hope this helps!
Thank you for your review.
Which can of battery system you advise ?
I saw in one of your recent video (about 11mm) a ZGCINE brand.
see you,
David
Hi!Nice Video! How much time does the 60d run with Dual Np-F970 Batteries?
Great review. When you advice using these for three point lighting what modifier would you recommend for the back/rim/hair light as I thought you needed a more focussed beam than soft boxes provide?
For backlighting I usually use a fresnel Bowen’s mount modifier. They have some really great decent priced ones on Amazon .
Thanks for the review! what would you recommend for buying your first lighting for product photography? Im trying to create real shadows in my products so far it's between the Aputure 120d ii which is kind of pricey or the Amaran 60d
These are all continuous lighting for videography, if you are trying to do still photography I would look for different lights, if you are doing video I would look at this light the Amaran 60d, also the Amaran 100d and 200d
Hey!! Thanks so much for this video! I mostly do food photography and video.. which light would you recommend for this? I was looking at the 60d or 200x but if there is any others you’d recommend?
Hi are you doing good photography or food videography? These lights are better for video but not the best option for photos. If you use video lighting for photos get the most powerful possible so I would look at 200d or 200x but really something even more powerful but will be more expensive. If you go the flash route for the photos you will find better priced lights, again if photos is the route you are going.
Great video fam. Wow. Ever since I heard about this light I knew I wanted it. I was thinking about the Godox ML60 but this feels better.
For your corporate shoots, how many lights do you usually tend to use on average?
It depends on the size and the room and/or budget, I always try to aim for a 3 point lighting setup but if the room is smaller sometimes I make a sacrifice and go for one light with a massive modifier
Lastly, what softbox did you have mounted on the 60 in this video?
Awesome review Geoff! Glad you touched on the battery output limitation @ 100%. I wasn't sure if I had a lemon review unit.
Thanks for watching Jason! Yes I have noticed on any light like this that will accept battery power over its DC port you will not get full output. Apparently there is a firmware update available to make this better (have not tried yet)
Solid review. I was about to get the 60x, but now the 60d sounds like the best value.
You should get the D
Thank you very much! This is best review on 60d - I’ve watched at least 5 videos.
About Lightning on budget what do you think about 2 lights - 60d + 100x?
Thanks! Yes if you were on a budget and could only do two lights I may try to stretch for the 200x but the 100x will work as well
Hey Geoff great video, what would you say is the biggest dome I could attach to this light ? Could I maybe get 90cm without mounting separate?
You could, however the limitation would be how much the yoke could handle in which position you use it, obviously the smaller the better. I’m using the light this weekend with a fresnel attachment on set, it’s heavy but small so works great with the 60d
Please which NP-F batteries do you use with the light? :))
Thinking about getting 60d and 100d with the light dome SE. thanks to your review I k ow now that I’m not going to get the 60x (if needed will just use a color gel). Klaudia
Good video man! Do you think that the light dome SE is to big for this tiny light?
I think it would work but probably would be at max weight
really great video and very helpfull. I'm looking to buy my first light only for video projects.
I have in my mind that I will do some product videos that they may be outdoors so I will need the battery lights but the light can be close to the subject so 65w is good, but I will also do some indoor interviews in rooms that may not have good or adjustable lighting so I will need to brights the whole room properly my self with an rgb panel for backlight.
How many whats should I look for my key lights to bright the whole room with too person interview? not only aputure but godox also. is 100w enough and how big softbox should I need?
Thank you very much for any help!
For outdoors I would recommend a 300w light if possible, the Amaran series 100d and 200d are great options if on a budget and you can control all the lights at the same time from the mobile app
@@ReachFilms thank you for your answer, for indoors do you think a 120d is enough to bright a room?
@@ArisGiannoukos if it’s bright lighting and you can get close to your subject probably, if not and the room has lighting that is bright and you cannot change will need something like a 300d
Can you please recommend a battery for me please!?
The 60x is not half the output of the 60d
I would look that up before making statement like that. The 60d is only 25% brighter than the 60x
Just a heads up!
Thanks for the heads up!
25% is correct! and it's only half stop of light! You should correct this and not share false information..
Anytime I hear a UA-camr make false claims it really kills their credibility. I actually stop listening.
Great video!!! I am in south Florida too!!! Keep making great content :)
Thank you! South Florida gang!!
Can't find the v mount to npf battery plate that your showing on Amarand 60D. What's the name of it. Thank you.
It comes with the 60d
Does the Aputure Fresnel 2X, Bowen-S Mount work with this light?
I don’t know about the specific one but I have used fresnel attachments from other companies on the 60d no problem
Hey Geoff. Great Review. Keep up the good work. So if you were a New UA-cam Creative and you were planning to buy your first Legit name brand key light What would you pic ? 60X 100X 200x. Something else? let me know.
Thanks Jay! If you are just going to go with one I would go with the 60d or 100d and not the x just because you don't get as much light output on the bi-color models. if you can get two I would go with a 60d and 200x and you should be covered with two lights, if you were going to go for three I would do 2 60d's and 1 60x.
Very much eyeing the 60D, great review. Currently using the modeling light on one of my alien bee strobes :P
hello if i could get this life for 200 canadian dollars vs the 200 x for 400 dollars wich one should i take
If you need both temperatures go for the X if you can deal with daylight temperature go for D for higher output
Thanks for the review. Would you recommend the 60D over the 100X as a key light for a study area? I plan to move a small panel that I've been using as a key light as one of my accent lights. Any thoughts on the Godox ML60bi?
I would absolutely recommend the 60d over the ML60bi, mainly because of the native Bowen’s mount on the 60d. Using adapters for Bowen’s mounts don’t always work that well. If you don’t need the bi color features then I would still go for the 60d but if you really need them the output of the 100x will be slightly higher then the 60d but you will get the bi color option. Also the 100x doesn’t have battery power options so just remember that too if you think you could use that.
@@ReachFilms Are you sure about the lack of a battery option on the 100X? The Amazon listing says it does support a battery option.
Thanks buddy. You addressed my question on what to get over the X or D. So I want to be able to shoot bike walk around/B rolls / mostly indoors at the dealership but have no control over ambient lights .so can I go for the X? Will I be able to light up the subject well compared to the D? Is that 25% loss a big deal? ….thanks again. Such a short and sweet video
If you have no control over the lighting both the 60d and x may not be as powerful as you would need them to be, in those situations if you have no control I would look at the 200d or 200x
What was your decision? Did you pick the D or X?
@@Dr3am0fLight bi colour bro
Hi! I was wondering the 60d can handle 90 cm ( 35 inches) softbox? I will receive my light tomorrow. Thanks in advance! Great review btw! New subscriber here!
Hi Jorge, thanks for watching! I think 90cm may be slightly too big to use with the 60d
Just use the S bracket mount
for cooking-videos in a small kitchen: would you prefer the 60d or the p60x?
I would take the more power of the 60d if it’s going to be a key
@@ReachFilms bought a 60d and will buy one more. now i have to think about softbox (which one i think it won't carry more then a 60x90cm) or 50-65cm lantern 🤔
Does the 100d allow for app control? I saw some product yesterday that was $90 that did it would allow app control on the 100d... Implying that out didn't have it out of the box.
apparently it does not you need that device, so another point to the 60d
@@ReachFilms Looks like I and the person who said it originally was wrong... you CAN connect directly to Sidus Link from 100d... ua-cam.com/video/KsPckmeZC2Q/v-deo.html
@@dankelly gotcha ok good to know what’s the point of that add on device then?
@@ReachFilms much older aputure lights.
I just got my first Amaran60D S and also ordered a 60X S, because I want to compare them, but after your video I’m thinking about cancelling the 60X S 😅. Thanks for the amazing review!
I don’t like getting bi-color lights when under 120w just not enough power for my taste. Then it comes to the 200d or the 200x I would take the 200x any day because of its versatility
@@ReachFilms This are the first professional lights I bought so I’m just entering this world. I think you can always get better or more, but for a first step I think the Amaran60D/X S is perfect for me!
Great review. Question: Is the 60d fan quieter than the 100d ??
Hey! Yes it is
@@ReachFilmsare you sure? I thought the 100d was quieter
@@crayonjambe7515 depends on if you have the newer or older model
@@ReachFilms so my local store sells all of the following: 60d s, 60d, 100d, with the 1st one being the new model and the other 2 being the old. How would you rank the 3 in terms of fan noise? Thanks for your response
@@crayonjambe7515 the fan noise on new newer S models are considerably better, my comment was before those models existed. If you are concerned about fan noise at all just go for S models of the lights
the big modifiers can be mounted by themselves, and this light locks on to them pretty good
for sure that's why I mentioned stability, any modifier that can be mounted itself is great to use! I have a huge 120cm parabolic soft box that can't be mounted by itself and is just too big to use so when you need big ones as long as it can be stabilized or mounted to something you are good to go!
I got mine but a small issue. When using batteries it shuts off sometimes if moved. Battery tray may have a loose connection or batteries just don’t make a good connection 🤷♂️
firmware update just do it
Is it true that when you use it with batteries and the level at 100% they turn off? could you check it?
All depends on the battery
@@ReachFilms What batteries do you use them with? and they don't turn off?
Thank you for the review.
Will this light be enough for a main front light ? Just a beginne here
It really depends on what you are filming. If it’s UA-cam type content or you can get the light close to the subject then yes will work as a key light
@@ReachFilms yes UA-cam I was looking at this one o godox vl 150
@@lifetimestoriesphotography that is a great light as well! Has more light output then the 60d so if you think you may need more output go for that light. Otherwise the 60d is great too!
Can I mount it on my desk since it is lighter and not to use light stands?
yes you can! just choose an appropriate modifier so there isnt too much strain on your light/desk and desk mount
@@ReachFilms And what size should I pick as a modifier? I am a little bit confused since there are tons of.
@@danielstojanovski9244 I wouldn’t go bigger than a lantern softbox, there are parabolic soft boxes that are small I would stay around 30-40cm
Also, isn't the 100d's fan louder?
I would say the 200d definitely is louder I couldn’t say when it comes to the 60d
you can use giant modifiers if you clamp to the modifier and not the light
Maybe fix the shutter sync….would make the expertise more credible
Old video
Heh last year ls60d/x was looking like an overkill for my home studio. But there wasnt a better looking loght at the time.
Now they are definetely overkill. Heck now even my 120d feels iferior to those small wonders.
Anyone wanna buy 3x ls60d/x and 120d II? 😂
I wasn't a huge fan of those ls60d and x because it had that glass in front of the LED but since these are normal that why I like them so much more..... plus I mean come on with that price!
If the softbox is to heavy this thing is light enough to mount to the softbox and clamp the softbox itself
Even 25% is a stretch. It's about 5,000 lux, roughly 37k vs 42k. Noticeable but barely
What you are comparing to is when someone shoots at around 4500 which isn’t realistic in lighting scenarios. If you are shooting in a mixed lighting scenario it will be either closer to 3200 or 5600 and at those settings you don’t get the same light output as 4500
Look at those views pour in!
yeah buddy! this light is just so good for the money
I have a criticism to make try to take it as a feedback when talking about lights you should atleast have your lighting setup good and impressive. your face is overexposed a lot and i dont even know what you did there with shadows in grading, the highlights in the background are totally gone and the key light is just everywhere. direction your key light towards you with a floppy to reduce spill then create some difference between key and fill side, use a nd filter to get balanced highlights and try to think of your lighting setup in layers first layer is your key and fill second is depth or midground and third is rgb
I agree I made this video right when I moved into this apartment over a year and a half ago and the lighting sucked
Hi, thx for review. Can you test this lights with Fresnel, does it work (correctly work) with it?
it will depend on what attachment you use, I tried my cheap Bowens mount fresnel and it worked fine but that won't go for all of them
@@ReachFilms which one do you use? I want to use cob 60 with Fresnel like cheap and more universal version of Aputure LS60
