That is one reason why I like three inch barrels better than two inch. A longer ejection rod. That extra barrel inch also gives better muzzle velocity and energy. The big problem I have with snub nosed .357 Magnums is there is a lot of recoil with lower muzzle velocity and energy so might as well be shooting .38Spl. +P with less recoil for close to the same velocity and energy. The lighter weight like with the poly plastic a revolver is the more felt recoil. Thanks for sharing.

I have a Taurus 22lr Ultra Lite and it holds 9 rounds. It is my go to gun for carry around town. It is a fun revolver and Taurus is not making it any more. I found it in a gun store ,used and bought it for 125.oo. A bargain. It never has had a missfire and it is a great pocket gun. It is single or double action.
I have two of these as well. One of them developed a problem that causes the hammer to feel like its getting caught on a "snag" when being cocked to shoot in single action. It does not affect its function but I still retired it out of an abundance of caution. I contacted Taurus and they told me that I would have to pay shipping both ways and I wasn't doing that. The other one still works like it did out of the box, no problems at all. They both are fairly accurate. I can put 5 inch groups at point of aim on paper at 15 yards, more than acceptable considering these guns are meant to be used in "get off of me" type of self defense situations. The double action trigger leaves a lot to be desired, both of my samples feel like a 25 pound pull.
I have an older 606 it's a six shot .357 from taurus in stainless steel. I carry it everywhere. Taurus really has stepped up thier game. I bought it used and have put a couple hundred rounds through it of good Hornady. 357 hollow points and cheap-O Armscor .38 special. Not one malfunction. I trust my life to it for sure. Keep spreading the good word!
Hello Terry. You're right, Taurus really has stepped up their game over the years and I own a handful of their handguns. My son and I thank you again for watching our videos and have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
As you stated, Mixup, the 5-shot Taurus revolvers featured in this video are OK. 👍 However, it's my point of view that the 6-shot Taurus 856 with a 2-inch barrel is even more OK! 👍
You're right Noah, the Taurus Model 856 is a great revolver and as you probably know I own two of them. Here is a video review that I did on one of them: ua-cam.com/video/mdtLdEQ2X90/v-deo.html
I have one too. I love it! It's a great backup carry in any pocket. BUT do not load it with full house 357s. Mild to midrange is what I suggest. I sent it in because I bent the cylinder/ejection rod from a full house load. They fixed it and its back to running 100%. Another thing. Loctite that screw near the trigger. If not, it will back out a tiny bit and cause the cylinder to lock up. The front sight also flew off. Easy fix. I put a large shot gun sight in its place. They simply screw in. Very inexpensive fix. Other than that, it serves its purpose very well!
Very enjoyable return look at the Protector Poly. The zombie version was pretty cool, as well. Barnes solid copper projectiles usually perform better than that - might have been that the short barrel didn't allow them to reach a more optimal velocity for expansion. Another fun and engaging episode. All the desert critters scored on pumpkin guts and seeds! Stay safe out there. Cheers.
I really wanted to like mine, but I had two issues that required sending them back to Taurus....the 2nd was irreparable and it took a good 3-4 months to get the new one. I clearly received a lemon and with budget firearms that's more of a reality than it is if you spend a couple hundred more. I knew that going in though. IF you can save the couple extra hundred for a snub I'd do so, if not I'd go for the steel version which can be had at the same price. I really liked pocket carrying the 605 Poly, I really did to the point where it was my main edc simply b/c it was so easy to pocket carry, but it was a huge let-down for it to have so many problems considering the fact that I only had about 250 rounds thought it (95% of those rounds being soft .38 special range ammo). That being said, I'm not a Taurus hater in that I can't rave enough about my 6", 7-round, Taurus 66. No problems whatsoever regardless of how cheap, soft or hot the round to the point where I'd have no problems with making it my "nightstand" gun.
The 605 Poly is a solid shooter. Have the FDE version and have shot several hundred rounds. Gotta watch the screws that hold it together. Tighten them, they have some thread lock on them but .357 loosens them. Great firearm and light. Snappy but light and you have five rounds of Mountain Lion killing protection. Great boat gun or if you are a hiker in the lower 48.
My Taurus 605 is still running good only had the ejector rod get loose and needed tighten. That zombie one you have is different, I've not seen one before. Might have to try out that ammo if I find some , have shot different calibers of the punch but not 38 special. Thats for the video and taking us along
Interesting, we actually didn't know this in pistol existed. Would be a nice revolver for the tackle box. Thank you for sharing this information. God bless 🙏
A retired cop gave my mom one of these in .38 after my dad died, I'm really not sure why as she already had his S&W .38 and sort of knew how to use it. I think it was his backup gun at some point, he'd had the hammer tail ground off so it was basically DA only. She ended up giving it to me and I ended up selling it, to me it seemed pretty bulky for being a "light" gun and I didn't like not having the option to cock the hammer.

You are very welcome Anthony and I hope you find a 3" 605. I own a Taurus Model 856 with a 3" barrel and I love it but it is chambered in .38 Special +P.
I was always hesitant to buy one due to believing that the polymer offered very little in the way of recoil absorption. ( my reference is my Taurus Judge poly Defender: beastie recoil on that thing Mr Mix lol ) so I’ve avoided the poly .357. “ Looks good on you though” lol Thanks, have a great day Sir.
I have the zombie green model 85 too! Will definitely seek out some of the punch ammo for it! It pretty much is my fishing gun, because the grips match my power bait.
Love your videos. I watch every one start to finish. Cool revolvers for a fair price. Im partial to s&w but can't hate affordable and functional options giving more people choice for defense
I suspect it's not the interest in the revolver as it is you doing a video. You've reviewed a million guns that I've no interest in buying, but you reviews are excellent
Have the Poly Protector 605 in FDE , it is a solid little gun that should not be the only gun you have. Mine was 319.00 and a steal for hand cannon you won't mind getting stolen or confiscated should you have to use it. Got it cause love my Smith & Wesson 686 6" and know the round is quite enough all the way up to Grizzly bears. .357 penetrates 6 pieces 2" x 4" boards like butter. It is a great round and until the the.44 magnum most powerful handgun round. Taurus has become quite a contender, the new Headquarters in Bainbridge , Georgia makes a lifetime warranty and quick turnaround easy. Good stuff!
Appears to be a hairline fracture or hopefully just a scratch in the model 85 just below the cylinder. The “scratch” runs horizontally and ends below the M in Model 85. Visible at the 3:00 minute mark.
Hello Brian. Fortunately it is not a fracture. The polymer frame is actually made from two pieces and you are looking at where the two pieces join together. You can see the other joint at the top of the frame just in front of the hammer. You will also notice two nuts at both of the joint locations, which hold the frame together.
I see what you’re saying but I’m talking about the silver metal piece just below the cylinder. The crack looks tiny and may be nothing. It actually ends right below the M. I had a hairline crack in the frame of a brand new S&W 638 which had to be returned for repair.
I've an old 605 2.25" high polish SS 357 ,looks like cross between a Rossi and Smith, made in 1994 before they changed tooling. It's a zero tolerance revolver .
I pick up my Taurus poly 65 Protecter 357 revolver at my local GUN shop used for $300 about a year ago still carry mine loaded with 357 just a great shooting little revolver.
@@mixup98 it’s kind of nice to know your son’s first name too now I don’t have to refer to him as Junior wishes as far as I’m concerned is more pleasant than calling him Junior
I'm carrying the Barnes in my Taurus 66 right now. Seems those cartridges are not really good . Had to put my plans for the Taurus 44 on hold as those have gotten really expensive. Instead, stumbled over a S&W bodyguard with laser that I could grab new for 320$. Fine little revolver. Will put the Federal punch in there as by your recommendation. Thanks for sharing the video 🤙👍
Actually the Barnes bullets did expand very nicely. I have reviewed several different calibers of Barnes ammo and I carry Barnes in my EDC 9mm pistol. I recommended the Punch mainly because of the reduced recoil in the relatively light weight Taurus poly revolver.
I bought the 38 special version of this for my wife. After a couple hundred rounds of target ammo, a really tiny washer rolls out of the barrel, so tiny it was tough to find. I hope Taurus comes thru!
I don't see the advantage of a poly body on the revolver if it still weighs 20oz. Looks like it is a bit thicker than the metal revolver at the same weight. Another great video. Thank you.
Yeah, a polymer .357 is probably going to kick like a mule for someone who doesn't have good ol' Mixup's strong hands and expertise. Sure does blow away those "zombies," though! 8D Thank you for doing a gel-shoot and for the ammunition recommendation. =)
Mine is loaded with speer gold dot 38 special 125gr+p, and I have 4 speed strips loaded with the same load next to it. So, I have 25 rds of +p Gold dots!!!
I just got a Taurus 856 Ultra Lite Black. Put a Houge grip on it and keep Federal Punch in it. I carry Federal Punch in my S&W M&P Bodyguard .38 too. Shooting .357 Magnum in a two inch barrel and polymer frame is gonna kick quite a bit.
Ugly firearm, but as long as it performs,it’s a keeper. Personally, never been a fan of the looks with polymer revolvers, but I know there are people who say that about any polymer firearm. Thanks for the video sir!!
😎👍👏saludos mr mixup que excelente revolver con un muy buen poder de temaño adecuado para llevar oculto en el bolsillo o en el tobillo como arma secundaria excelente revision👏👏👏
Good shooting there my friend. That looks like a very unique pistol. I've been on the fence about purchasing that pistol for quite sometime now but for some reason haven't pulled the trigger yet? Thanks for the video.
I got the steel 605 for my Mom and put Crimson Trace grips on it for her. Grips cost as much as the pistol. She's getting too recoil sensitive to shoot it, now, at 80 yrs old, even with reduced power 38 Sp. reloads. I need to get her something smaller like a 22 mag or even a .22LR revolver. She doesn't care for automatics. I just can't see paying over $500 for a Ruger LCR, though.
.32 H&R Magnum! Most brands sell a SIX-shot compact revolver for not too much money. "Standard" ammo gives 220 ft-lbs of energy with little recoil, which equals low-power .38 Special! Much hotter ammo is available which does NOT damage the guns................................elsullo
I wish you had shown the wound tracks more clearly ! It looked like at least One was significant ! But guess it doesn't matter much if you're up close and personal ? 🤔....?
Not really understanding the 'poly' thing? Structurally there's a metal gun inside so the plastic just adds unneeded bulk....unless it's for colorization which I'm not interested in. My daily carry is an 850 CIA Ultra-Lite which is basically the same gun minus the plastic covers and any more bulk is unwanted.
I also don't really get the whole "poly" revolver thing. I much prefer a stainless Ruger SP101 or S&W Model 60. Thanks for watching and commenting on my video.

I have the zombie green model 85 too! Will definitely seek out some of the punch ammo for it! It pretty much is my fishing gun, because the grips match my power bait.
Awsome as always. Many thumbs up to your videos. Stay well & safe out there.
Love your videos. I watch every one start to finish. Cool revolvers for a fair price. Im partial to s&w but can't hate affordable and functional options giving more people choice for defense
👍😎 😎👍
Great video Sir! Miss seeing your son with you tho 😊
You and me both! Unfortunately he had had to work yesterday when I shot this video. I promise he will be in my next video though.
I suspect it's not the interest in the revolver as it is you doing a video. You've reviewed a million guns that I've no interest in buying, but you reviews are excellent
Thank you for the nice feedback, Steve. I appreciate it.
Good stuff!
Went out with a bang! Good stuff my Friend. Thumbs up ~John
Greeting from Northern Nevada. Absolutely enjoy the videos, keep up the great work!
Awesome! Thank you and hello from southern Nevada!
Cool that you beam in for these reviews. :)
Great video and as usual, excellent shooting. Thanks!
Not a bad looking 357 mag and 38 special thanks for sharing mixup98
I've an old 605 2.25" high polish SS 357 ,looks like cross between a Rossi and Smith, made in 1994 before they changed tooling.
It's a zero tolerance revolver .
I pick up my Taurus poly 65 Protecter 357 revolver at my local GUN shop used for $300 about a year ago still carry mine loaded with 357 just a great shooting little revolver.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep your videos coming please.
Thanks, will do!
I have the 6050 stainless double action! I love it!!!
Great video review 👍!!! Keep up the fight!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you for an awesome video Ray
You are very welcome my friend.
@@mixup98 it’s kind of nice to know your son’s first name too now I don’t have to refer to him as Junior wishes as far as I’m concerned is more pleasant than calling him Junior
Really enjoying my 4 inch Taurus 66. Not sure about a 3 inch. Maybe one day
I like all metal revolvers myself ! If I get another poly, it may as well be a semi .
I assume you've never pulled on 22LR LCR trigger.... Oooff 🤷♂️
I have the metal 605, and I like it quite a bit. Don't know how I feel about a polymer revolver....
I bought the 38 special version of this for my wife. After a couple hundred rounds of target ammo, a really tiny washer rolls out of the barrel, so tiny it was tough to find. I hope Taurus comes thru!
@@melissasmess2773 Their new G-series pistols are pretty solid but the revolvers are still iffy.
Love your Barbasol shot!👍🙏😎
Thanks 👍
Always informative and entertaining ❤
Thanks!!!
Damn I'm old.
I still use my 2" Colt Agent, when I walk the dog at night!
Academy Sports + outdoors is having a Black Friday sale on the Bronze colored version for $299.99
A great video and review.
Support sir from Philippines.
Much appreciated my friend and greetings from the United States. I also want to thank you for subscribing to my channel.
I don't see the advantage of a poly body on the revolver if it still weighs 20oz. Looks like it is a bit thicker than the metal revolver at the same weight.
Another great video. Thank you.
You save 4 ounces on the poly vs the steel, which is probably not worth it.
Now i gotta buy one
I love my Taurus protector 605 .357. it is also the first magnum revolver i bought.
Yeah, a polymer .357 is probably going to kick like a mule for someone who doesn't have good ol' Mixup's strong hands and expertise. Sure does blow away those "zombies," though! 8D
Thank you for doing a gel-shoot and for the ammunition recommendation. =)
Thank you PantherPurr 👍👍
Beam Me Up Mixup, I'll come shoot with you!
Cool Videos, and great personable attitude as always, great channel!
Awesome! You just made my day....thank you and have a great weekend.
As always great review.
I have the 85 in 38 spl... Shoots high but reliable
Sweet gun, and loving the semi exposed hammer too
Mine is loaded with speer gold dot 38 special 125gr+p, and I have 4 speed strips loaded with the same load next to it. So, I have 25 rds of +p Gold dots!!!
Yeah, two neat little guns. But I'm old-school, I'll always prefer steel over poly. 🤷🏻♂️
Great video, though. 👌🏻👍🏻
Nice review.
That's got to be a handful!
Nice review 👍
Thanks! 👍
That's a nice looking gun👍
I just got a Taurus 856 Ultra Lite Black. Put a Houge grip on it and keep Federal Punch in it. I carry Federal Punch in my S&W M&P Bodyguard .38 too. Shooting .357 Magnum in a two inch barrel and polymer frame is gonna kick quite a bit.
8:43 Hahaha ! Very good! Thanks for the video! 👍
Great video Ray, I know guys that cant shoot as good as you throw!! lol
Thank you, Mix-Up. Try the 150gr 38spl hardcast wadcutter that UNDERWOOD AMMO HAS.
I will....thanks for the suggestion!
@@mixup98 Thank you for responding.
Ugly firearm, but as long as it performs,it’s a keeper. Personally, never been a fan of the looks with polymer revolvers, but I know there are people who say that about any polymer firearm. Thanks for the video sir!!
I put mine in a modified sticky holster, and it rides in my pocket!!!
😎👍👏saludos mr mixup que excelente revolver con un muy buen poder de temaño adecuado para llevar oculto en el bolsillo o en el tobillo como arma secundaria excelente revision👏👏👏
I need to start working on increasing the view count for your CX4 Storm videos so that you make more of them. :-) Thank you for another great video.
The trigger pull on the 22LR LCR... well I would not recommend for most 80 year olds... It hurts my finger shooting 6 or 8 cylinders worth...
I wish you had shown the wound tracks more clearly !
It looked like at least One was significant !
But guess it doesn't matter much if you're up close and personal ?
🤔....?
You're right, I should have taken a closer look at the wound tracks, and I appreciate the feedback.
The SP101 is an awesome weapon... thanks for the videos, very informative
@@terrancewilliams138YES, the SP101 is worth it.I'd never trust a Taurus, especially a light weight shooting ANYTHING!. RIA M206 I'd prefer.
Do you think the poly would be better for humid regions? Less corrosion from sweat/humidity. Just curious, and thanks for the video. You rock!
For 245 OTD, this revolver got a lot more interesting!!!
🎃 great lookin piece, I kinda like the zombie 38spl+p 🧟♂️
Good morning pauliewalnuts. Here is my video review on my Zombie .38: ua-cam.com/video/GfZOvac5BXQ/v-deo.html
so do I, it is something different
