- A very Irish interview altogether! Saoirse Ronan and I chat about her Oscar nominated role in Lady Bird and what it’s like to leave the Motherland.
Lady Bird is bloody brilliant by the way and it’s in cinemas now!

This was so fucking Irish (also yay Lady Bird)!
Sammy Paul Yes to both.
Sammy Paul it sure is.
I'm glad that for once Saoirse didn't have to explain how to pronounce her name...
Perks to be interviewed by another Irish person, I guess
I'm not American and have to ask someone how to pronounce her name
I'm not American either and I also had to watch other interviews to be sure how to pronounce her name... But it's true that in every interviews she had in America, people were always hung up of that !
Marion D. SMART LEGENDS ONLY
im british and i wouldnt know either but i had a saoirse in my class in primary school so thankfully i realised
Ahhh I love Sworsay Rowboat
this made me laugh way more than it should have
Hello ladies & gentle-humans, today we are here with the star of Lady Bird, the one & only ~sPiCy RaMeN
LOL
oh no she's the female benedict cumberbatch
*female Irish Bendybatch Crumperitt
I love how Hazel got progressively more and more Irish as the interview went on
+
i want Saoirse to monologue all my thoughts
Dan Maloney That’s basically what it’s like in my head. It’s lovely in here 😊
We all do
She needs to do a recording for Calm.
*Exchange* 👏 *numbers* 👏
*Become* 👏 *besties* 👏
This is so refreshing! All that she’s been asked on the press tour was about her name, irish accent and Timothée Chalamet. I really enjoyed this conversation, it was actually really interesting and very natural, you’re so good Hazel!!
I love this series so much because unlike other interviews and interviewers Hazel really takes the time to get to know the actors work and you can tell she is really interested in what they have to say. It's more of a conversation then just "now here is the question now lets more onto the next" which is the vibe I get from a lot of interviews when a film is being promoted or when it comes to award season. You can also see the guests actually want to be there and are engaged in the conversation. It's nice because Hazel just talks to them as any other person and doesn't really put them on a pedestal giving us the sense that they are these unattainable stars. I dunno sometimes it seems in interviews the interviewer is more interested in the people because of their fame rather then their work and its just refreshing when Hazel has a guest and we really get to know them more as a person.
Well now I'm going to listen to nothing but Saoirse Ronan interviews until I have an Irish accent
It's very specific to North Dublin though, not very general
Look I'm not picky, any Irish is better than no Irish at all
I swear after the first five minutes I'm already half-there... XD
parker7ish well if it floats your boat...
but honestly i hate my irish accent :(
Hey parker, how's your Irish accent now? 😂
Saoirse described adulthood in once sentence right there. And as always, GOD i love tipsy talk.
Yup, it kind of ruined me but she did it.
Hazel, your interviews are easily my most anticipated videos to watch on UA-cam. You have such an ease with each guest and the way you talk about film always has your guests respecting you and your opinion on their work within the first minute. I as a viewer care just as much about what you have to say as I do the actor/director/interviewee. Such a pleasure to watch 💞
The moment on the church steps where she calls her mum broke my heart in a million pieces. Absolutely incredible movie & acting, i hope she wins that Oscar.
This was bloody lovely! I've thought for years that it'd be wonderful if you could interview Saoirse and that it would be the perfect pairing, I'm glad it's come to fruition!
Rukaya Cesar I
how am I just now discovering this series??? the vibe is so chill and comfortable I liveee for it gonna binge the rest after this one
its so irish
Naomi C. Kenny I laughed when I saw that back! 😂
Hazel Hayes happy to make you laugh. Fellow Irish gal here. You're the bomb, keep it up x
Two Irish girls together. You can see all the heart and freedom talk
I didn’t realize how homesick I was :( thanks for being a little piece of home 💛
Right. Well. This comment made me cry in a cafe. Good.
Same here Noemie, it filled the little homesick hole in my heart x
She is so nice❤️
A little bit of Monika ayyy it's your roommate
Celia Velazquez yep! So proud of her :’)
yeah you'd know dont you live with her
I love my Irish moths
The ending to this interview really got me - I’m leaving home tomorrow for university. With 5 hours soon to be between me and home, it really does feel like I’ve somehow blinked through all my childhood moments and I’m now standing on the brink of a precipice, very nearly falling over the edge. I’m so glad you took the interview in the direction 💕
Love Charlotte oh dear god 😢
That was the sweetest thing when Saoirse grabbed her hand after her confession with rewatching her tapes🥺
lol her accent did get stronger in this one
This was so nice and relaxed I loved it 🍵
It's great to see you and your ability to ask insightful questions about the movie, characters, etc. but still be able to maintain a sense of comfort within the interview and keep it down to earth
My two favourite Irish babes - you're both brilliant, Lady Bird was brilliant, and I want a charming Irish accent
I look after saoirse's great aunt in a nursing home. They actually look so similar. Had the pleasure of meeting saoirse's mam a few weeks ago too 😊 lovely woman.
Can't wait to see ladybird!
Great video x
Omg have you met her?
Tipsy Talk should be a full length talk show.
I’m from Sacramento and was raised really catholic so lady bird resonated with me a lot especially the relationship she has with her mom. I’ve seen it twice now and I’ve cried from the opening shots of Sacramento to the very last credit. Great job to everyone who was involved in the film
Get you a SO who looks at you how Saiorse looks at Hazel gushing at 5:59
Saoisre is such a laid back person, and it seems like everyone she talks to is very comfortable around her! also I like that she didn't have to talk about her name like every other interview
I just randomly watched some saoirse interviews and was frustrated that all she ever has to talk about is her name, her irish heritage/accent and timothee chalamet. So i remembered this wonderful interview with wonderful questions and a host that really cares about her as an actress and her work
You have fabulous interviewing skills, Hazel. I've watched so many of these promo interviews but this one just seemed like two friends chatting. Well done!
the part where you talked about leaving home and it never being the same when you come back got me really emotional! I've just moved to Ireland on my own and i really relate to how scary and horrible it is to have to leave every time you go home because its not really home anymore
anyway this was a brilliant interview well done Hazel, you have a real gift for asking the right questions and making your guest feel comfortable, it always seems like a chat between old friends!
Saoirse is such an Irish icon. She's amazing
two irish gals walk into a room...
2 IRISH LEGENDS
wow i just love listening to saoirse ronan talk
These two young beautiful women shows the generosity of the Irish. They are so generous and appreciative of the California movie experience without making comparisons to Ireland.
Saoirse just seems so nice and genuine it’s so refreshing for a celebrity especially one with so many Oscar nominations at such a young age! She definitely doesn’t let it go to her head
it's great because they're so chill
Honestly, I really love how you personalize interviews in a way that one feels like you really *watched* the movie. And thats is - unfortunately - rare. I'm not insinuating that other interviewers don't watch the movies, but fact is they rarely go about it as you do. And this interview was honestly perfect. And please, never lose your beautiful accent, Hazel.
I consider Saoirse Ronan to be a "Meryl Streep" level actor, and I have since I first saw her in "I Could Never Be Your Woman." I think her young age has kept her from winning at least one of the three Oscars she has already been nominated for, but she will most certainly win several over the course of her career (just as Streep has done). Beyond that, her beautiful personality and genuine friendliness are so refreshing to witness in these interviews. Yes, I am a fan, but I also recognize real class and quality when I see it.
She's a great actor, but measuring greatness in Oscar wins is a folly as there have been way too many great performances overlooked to take them seriously as "the" measure. Her film legacy will ensure her greatness.
For me she is a mix between Meryl-Jodie-Cate all in one. She could become the greatest actress of her generation.
I watched Brooklyn and Carol the same night and was just wrecked. Cryin' like a baby.
I've waited for this for so long
"standing in your kitchen in London"... At least you are just a short plane ride away! I'm two years in China now and it's so far away that a quick visit home is always off the cards which was probably what made Brooklyn very relatable for me.
Roisin Conaty God I can’t imagine being so far away. Sending love from back home 😊
Hazel Hayes Thanks Hazel! The Mammy still sends me over tea because that's totally not what China is famous for.. 😂
Roisin Conaty I've spent 3 years living across the world from home too, though it's the other way around for me (I'm from Hong Kong, lived in England for uni). I got so homesick and bad at independent living I actually fell into a wee bit of depression the first year. But when you return to the family home again you'll realise what you miss is a rose-tinted version of it; especially if you've spent a prolonged amount of time living alone, it gets hard to go back and live with your parents again as you save money for moving out...
how am i just seeing this tipsy talk now!! i love you two irish babes so much!!
I don't know why but the more I look at her the more beautiful she becomes. I can't put my finger on it but she's definitely got it.
waw this actually made me tear up quite a bit, knowing that in a few months i will be leaving for college and i will probably end up being that person standing in the kitchen wondering why there's no food. absolutely loved how natural and refreshing this was, i could listen to you two talk all day! you are great at this Hazel! ❤️
Oh my God, I absolutely love Saoirse Ronan! She just feels very, very true to her roots and very witty and absolutely inspiring. She always seems rather friendly, but this interview definitely confirms it. I love seeing you bond with her about Ireland and Lady Bird. Your opinions on movies are always so interesting and eye-opening. Please never stop this series on your channel!
I LOVE that top.
Saoirse is adorable and hilarious wish i was friends with her
I LOVE her sweater on her.
I freaking loved Lady Bird, I was blown away by her performance!!
I know that this video was uploaded months ago but I just can’t not comment on how refreshing, sweet, and honest this interview was. Two lovely ladies with pure hearts and a relatability with one another that is unmatched. Such a joy to watch!
this is how to interview people! wow, this is so comfortable and insightful and nice!
The noise I made when I saw this in my sub box was definitely not human because I was SO excited to see this! It felt like you two were long-lost sisters! I loved Lady Bird and had a long cry after I saw it, and to hear Saoirse talk about it and her experience with it had me in floods all over again. I adore this interview, Hazel! So glad you got the opportunity to meet her!
One of my favourite interviews EVER! So great to hear an actress asked genuine, interesting questions about her profession Hazel - fantastic!
THE ONE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR
The bit about leaving the nest and how you know it's never gonna be the same again had me in tears. Well done, Hazel! I never knew I could feel homesick from watching to ladys chat about movie things
The greatest interviews are those in which you completely forget are interviews. You have a natural gift in making the Actor feel as though they’re conversing with a close friend, which allows us to see little bits of magic we would otherwise never get to experience. I find one of the joys about watching film is the collective experience afterwards when you share how it made you feel and finding out how it made another person feel a completely different way. Thank you for creating a such a safe, positive and collaborative space.
god I love it when two Irish women talk in these interviews, its so familiar and its amazing, ta babes
I'm in love with Saoirse Ronan.
Ohhh she’s just fab!
So we can all agree that ladybird is just fucking amazing
I stan two Irish legends👌
Petition for you and Maude Garrett to tag team a press junket. And this is really enjoyable, thank you.
Your videos with fellow Irish people always make me feel less homesick, especially when you’re talking about how it’s never easy saying goodbye when leaving home, when going back to your life with more opportunities abroad, Ireland will always be my true home where my heart is ❤️
I just watched ladybird on a plane to America! What a coincidence!
God Hazel, your interviews are just so right ! Because you actually share something with the person you interview instead of showing them off as an object to an audience who isn't even here. You don't do it for the audience, you actually have a conversation from human being to human being, from film addict to film addict, and that's so refreshing! And the special thing about your interviews is that I'll watch them even if I have no idea who the interviewee is. And i'm never disappointed :)
She's so beautiful I'm crying
Saoirse is stunning and so funny
Somebody take me to the motherland xxx this was brilliant x love you hazel x
God you’ve put a fierce dose of homesickness in me. This was really lovely 😊
I honestly gasped when I read the title??? I haven't even watched the vid yet but I'm SO excited for this !!!!!!!
I have been WAITING for this for what feels like my WHOLE LIFE
I reaaaaally want to watch ladybird
I haven’t even seen Lady Bird yet but this made me so emotional??? what??? love both of you x
Thank you for doing yet another brilliant interview. I’ve thought for years now that Saoirse Ronan is one of the best actors out there and will eclipse all those to come before. She projects such a full spectrum, such a complete “bandwidth” of the characters she portrays, and always with that “hint of flavour” of herself shining through, something that, to me, is always so much more interesting than a total loss of the actor’s own personality. Any YOU, always totally accommodating the person you interview, full-on human to full-on human, no dumb stock questions, all down-to-earth heart felt truth. Please never stop this series !
You’re both so lovely and charming 💕 Saoirse is an incredible actress and Hazel is an amazing interviewer, so natural!
I loved hearing this interview. My Mom’s Grandparents came here from Ireland as teenagers, and I remember that lilt in their voices when I was young. Mom was so proud of her Irish heritage.
I adore Saoirse she’s so wonderful ❤️
I set my sat nav to Irish female. this is wonderful
I'm so glad for you that you got to interview Saoirse. Éire abú 🇮🇪
Thank you for this! It was such a lovely reminder of home, because I'm also an Irish person living in London, but I'm only in my first year of it, so I'm still feeling homesick often! So of course I (like the rest of the world) connected so much to Ladybird and Brooklyn! I love the idea of the mammy shoving the Tayto in the bag on the way to the airport!!
that was one of the best interviews I've ever seen and I'm not even saying that because I like both Hazel and Saoirse. this was really natural and deep and they had this amazing chemistry, it was lovely to watch ❤
Saoirse Ronan so beautiful
This really feel like an amazing friendship could come out of this
'when you leave home, you can't go back', never thought an interview could make me go from laughing to crying so quickly
I'm soooo happy you talked about Brooklyn, it's one of my favorite movies
Love saoirse she's stunning and love her Irish accent she's has one amazing personally 😍
this tipsy talk is pure gold!
Someone please write a film with Hazel and Saoirse as sisters! I feel like it’d be a winner. Love you both ❤️
I LOVE HER SO MUCH SHE IS SO GENUINE AND KIND AND FUNNY AND SMART SHE’S BEAUTIFUL this is the best tipsy talk
this makes my irish heart happy omg i love saoirse so much
Watched Brooklyn because of this, you weren't kidding - many feelings were felt. I'm a few years behind watching films so I'l get to Lady Bird eventually.
She one of my favourite actresses, she seems lovely
So many non celeb interviewer interviewing a celeb are really cringe worthy but this was SO REFRESHING! Just so chilled and nice and like yeah so unlike anything else. Loved it
Love Saoirse Ronan, Love Ireland, Love Lady Bird !
i love how cosy and causal these are
I loved this! I'm so happy to see Saoirse's profile all around Dublin and can't wait to see the movie!!!
