- The plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-husband, and she loaned him some money when he hit a rough patch. She claims he ignored her when she asked him to repay it - because it turns out he lost $50,000 gambling. She’s suing to be reimbursed. The defendant says his ex-wife never loaned him money and claims she’s just there because the courts cut off child support.

In my state, child support arrears are not forgiven, nor do they end when the child turns 18. They are collected and paid until paid off. My son is an adult, has graduated college, is pursuing his career and I still get child support because the father is still paying off the arrears.

My aunt is 43 my grandmother still gets $100/ month from my aunts father’s social security retirement checks since he just retired because he never paid his child support. When he dies she’ll get the remainder from his estate

He could have easily fought it in court and not pay her a dime all he had to do was show proof that he was sending money to her each month on that debit card. The mother was double dipping. Many judges would make her repay the child support she received if the father showed evidence of financially supporting their child.
@@anntoosweet67 this take just sounds a little stupid imo. child support is usually for clothes, food, and other obligations that BOTH parents need to be paying equally for their child. any money he sent HIS daughter on the debit card was for her personal expenses. do you know how often parents pay for child necessities and still give their kid money on the side? birthdays, valentine’s day, christmas, etc. the couple hundred dollars he gives his daughter here and there is nothing in comparison to child support. and he missed his payments for 3 years…a good dad would’ve paid his child support and stayed in the country to tend to and support his daughter. coulda gotten a house nearby so she could’ve had both parents and instead her parents were messy enough to the point that she moved in with her grandma immediately at 18

My parents divorced in the 70s. My dad was a self absorbed cheater. My mom was awarded $200 per week child support & $300 per week alimony. My mother, not once, ever accepted one dime of alimony from my father. Never said one bad word about him. But I hit 14-15 and knew.
I’m doing fairly well. My mom has a beautiful apartment within my house. A fantastic relationship with my kids. And she is living well. My father remarried with 2 kids. In a teeny tiny house, broke as hell .

My childhood was identical. My mum is surrounded by her adult children and grandkids at her feet now and I hear my father has told his latest mail order bride in our culture ‘families aren’t close and don’t celebrate holidays’ to explain why his kids don’t speak to him and he doesn’t even know how many grandkids he has. My mum is the winner and wealthier than he will ever be.

The judge is surprised that in NY child support is paid until the child is 21, well in the UK it was indicated on my judgement that he had to pay until our children 'finished further education'. All 3 of our children went on to do their Master’s degree and one of our children continued to do a PhD, so his father paid him directly, as he was no longer living with me. Now that is reasonable, why shouldn't a parent pay for a child while they are educating themselves and can't yet support themselves? When you are a parent, it doesn't just end abruptly when they hit 18...

In California any lottery winnings are held up while an investigation into any debts like child support is owed. It will be taken out of the winnings. I had a friend who won $15,000. He owed back taxes and they took the money out of his winnings.

I tried that ONCE. I paid a full medical bill COPAY and we were supposed to go half. I paid it up front. BTW, I had the kids, I paid the insurance. His half was $75. I asked him for months for the money. I had the money, but it was the principle. He finally got tired of me asking and said he didn't know he had to pay me to be a mother to our kids! Baby-bee!!! LESSON LEARNED. His number got blocked. Now I have peace.

My ex and I are the same. I just say our son needs XYZ and he pays without question. I send him a receipt and over the years we’ve developed trust that I’m not going to get my nails done but I still do it and it’s only important stuff, medicine, school uniform, shoes etc.

I found him very disingenuous. He very haughtily insisted that it was his choice to pay the back child support and when pushed and pushed on it he eventually had to admit that it was garnished from him. He lost his credibility there. I don't know why that after him owing thousands and thousands in back child support and apparently court cases that she would then loan him 1500 dollars with no promissary note and then expect him to play fair. How can she have been so stupid?
She's so lucky yes, as the judge often finds people had "no expectation to be repaid" under such circumstances. The more that guy acted "Mr Reasonable" the more he pissed me off, fortunately the judge saw through him within minutes!!

When Harvey was outside asking those young teenage / college girls about marriage and divorce, of course they're gonna say yes I'd loan my EX BOYFRIEND OR HUSBAND money. My dad left when I was 2 months old. His child support payments (we were in another country) was less than $75 US PER MONTH! My mom had to fight every month for that money. When I got old enough, I found out that he would take care of his girlfriends and their kids (rent, bills,food, etc)
So, I move to the US, I never went back to visit him and I never saw him again.. He constantly tried to get in contact with me, he wanted me to send him clothes and shoes. The same month I got married he died suddenly and 2 months later I found out I was pregnant. O well.

I loved the People’s court and was so sad when it went off the air. It was filmed in Stanford Connecticut and I live in Connecticut. I live 45 minutes from where it was filmed, so I went to watch the People’s court between 35 to 40 times and what was really nice is while you were in the waiting room to go into the courtroom, they had tons of pizza and a full size refrigerator, full of soda and other drinks for free.
What was really nice was after each case, judge Milian would come out and talk to us, and she would ask if anybody had any questions. You could ask her about her life or legal questions, and I learned so much about the law, watching the cases and asking her questions and she is one of the nicest, down to earth, people I’ve ever talked to, and she’s extremely funny, but I do love her new show Justice for the People with Judge Milian but sadly, that one is filmed in California now.
Both these parents are tacky but the defendant is shameful deadbeat and a bold faced liar.

It takes more than money to raise a child but yes it takes money to raise a child. My dad never paid any type of support never saved one quarter for me in a piggy bank. If I needed a dollar for a drink he'd have to bum it from someone else. But he was the only one able to make it there for me during the birth of my son, and he was the only one able to make it there for me when I needed home health aide because I fractured the right side of my body in a car crash. He cleaned, cooked, strolled me in my wheelchair to the store because we had no car. I had to finance everything. I used to be resentful because I didn't get what I wanted from him as a child. But God still allowed him to show up and show out for me. I'm almost 30 and I'm thankful for my dad even though he ain't never paid no child support. 😆

Glad she also got her $20.00… When we borrow money from people please pay them back for the wire transfer fee, stamp fee, money order fee , or if you borrow money from someone’s 401k pay back the penalties and taxes imposed , and last but not least if it is on a credit card over a period of time pay back the interest on the amount you borrowed and if you do not pay on time you should also pay the late fee it is the right thing to do.. 😅 That is what I would write on the contract when people borrow money.. so when they sign on the dotted line they will be fully aware of how much it is costing me when they borrow money. 😅
