Is that the same as Washington axe? Incase you you never heard the question if you had washingtons axe and replaced the handle or top is it still Washington axe?
The allure of these gameboys for me is, that they are a product of their time. When swapping the internals, it isn't the one from back then anymore. Obviously there are levels to how authentic it needs to be. Changing the polarizing foil is fine, swapping the motherboard with one from another ANA would probably also be ok. Sure, the only thing custom is the front plate, but we don't collect front plates, but game boys, so the rest must have some significance as well, right?
Elliot, I genuinely love all your videos... But, man, is it good to see a restoration vid again! By far my favorite videos you post. Thanks for the great content!

@@bonehand87 You sure about that? In all the commercials I can find (both Japanese and English-language) they spell it out. ua-cam.com/video/UVRrL-KY3qc/v-deo.html for example

Happy pocket screens are finally popping up on ebay. i need a couple for my GameBoy Pockets but couldn't find any without harvesting them from other gameboys.
Bought an original GBA with the same button problems a couple of years ago. Chrome cleaner does an amazing job at making even badly corroded contacts fully functional again.
It seems Japanese companies loved making exclusive promotional products for company employees. Hell, Nintendo once made a special white version of their Color Game 6 for Toyota (I think)
@@ionstorm66 the way it was explained to me was that the NES and the Game Boy were so ubiquitous in Japanese society that they were basically seen as "default" devices everyone had (like how today we assume everyone has a phone, laptop/computer, microwave, etc). So it was seen as something everyone would use and it was more fun than doing their own version of a camera or something.
Pretty sure they've teamed up with airlines several times, they've made systems specifically for plane ( i don't mean a brand new console, I mean versions of existing ones or controllers) wasnt the ique thing originally made for planes?
I recently found your channel. Been binging your videos and today I decided to just go and buy a broken Gameboy pocket for 30€ and I'll try to restore it. Cheers.
What I do, which seems to work very well, is I will use a q-tip soaked with IPA and rub it onto the contacts of a random gameboy game (nothing super important) and will repeatedly insert it into the slot. It tends to clean up both the slot and the cartridge itself pretty well. Makes games that won’t read work just fine. This also works with Nintendo DS games
I had a box of official NES cleaning kits, they were basically the same as a game boy one (well different cartridge obviouly) as in it had that stick with pads on both ends.
ANAs done a ton of promotional stuff with pokemon, made promo cards and airplanes complete with pokemon decals n such. i own a model plane from it. never knew they collabed on a gameboy tho super cool!

"Perfect, all original parts" etc. But when it's for your own collection, its nice to have it working rather than in poor condition or dead MB, screen and so on.
Hi so I decided to clean my gameboy pocket buttons and pads since they were a bit gross yesterday and I didn’t notice it until today that the casing by the power switch side had a little gap like half a millimeter but the rest of the top casing closed properly I am wondering if I did something wrong I placed everything in right tightened the screws right also
Hey Elliot, why don‘t you peel of the protective layer on the type-sticker? On my GB it was looking bad, but after removing it, it looks brand new. Here it was still on the sticker...
Hey Elliot, thanks for restoration videos, it's been useful for me, having restored my Game Boy Pocket and Colour back to a nice state. Could you offer any advice on how to align the Pocket screens properly? I've found a lot of wiggle room in mine, maybe because it's an aftermarket case.
That is a thing of beauty. Love the colour.
No that’s a pocket, the color is a different product

The replaced motherboard does not affect the value, if the original motherboard is kept, and is sold along with the repaired unit.

@James Schappert What if all the ANA boards have a specific serial number on it? Like an A at the front or whatever. Would that change things for you?

they’re so great. maybe it has to do with the feeling of “i fixed this gameboy, and you can too”
"This is a European packaging, this one looks Brazilian" xD
Yes I just commented on that as well xD João Ramos that looks Portuguese. Certo?
engraçado... eles nunca pensão q possa ser português de Portugal.

Wait, you're restoring a gameboy?
This is impossible, nothing bad could happen to a gameboy

Gotta love those ultra close up shots during cleaning and restoration.
I’m a simple man. I see Retro Future video? I click
"ANA" is not said like a name, but the individual letters, A N A. It's short for "All Nippon Airways."
Also, there is no Brazilian language... they speak Portuguese
In Japan it is pronounced ANA all as one word though.
@@bonehand87 You sure about that? In all the commercials I can find (both Japanese and English-language) they spell it out. ua-cam.com/video/UVRrL-KY3qc/v-deo.html for example
fluffy it’s abbreviated in the commercials but typically people tend to just say ANA since it is easier and quicker to say in Japanese.
@@bonehand87 Interesting. But do they pronounce it like Elliot did or do they say it like "aynay" or something like that?
"Brazilian" is not a language, we speak portuguese, fun fact, chines is also not a language chinese people speak mandarin and cantonese
I think he means that it was a box from Brazil, a "Brazilian" box, or maybe i misunderstood haha but yes, Brazilian it's not a language:'c
Mandarin and Cantonese are forms of the Chinese language, so they are different kinds of Chinese

the battery contact on the board, especially the spring is still pretty much corroded, you can see it at 10:53

A classic Elliot resto vid. Love the music montage. So relaxing!
The green one is from Spain. Greatings from Galicia, Spain
I guess you could say that the Retro Future is “ANA” roll lately 😂👍
You beat me to the joke. Congratulations.
Use the glasses lens scratch repair kit "pencils" or "crayons" on the scratched screens. It'll "erase" 90% of those scratches...
loving the video so far elliot!!
That thing is really nice, the blue is lovely. I bought for myself the GBC version a while back.
It is rather remarkable how many variations there are of not only the original game boy but the pocket, color etc.
Loved the lo-fi montage, one of my faves. Really soothing

The Gameboy Boy back at it again.

I had one of these game and gameboy cleaners in Canada as a kid, such a handy tool
I flew with them in 2017 and 2018 to Japan and Vietnam. I highly recommend them.
The US GB cleaner is virtually identical to the JPN one. Minus the US box being the same size as the US GB boxes. And the cart lable.

European packaging variants -> This one looks brazilian I think. *hmmmmmm*

I will not lie, the fact that you haven't cleaned the verdigris from the battery contacts gave me the shivers.
All nippon airlines did a lot of stuff with Nintendo latest thing they did with ANA was the Boeing 747-400 pokemon livery jets

Still loads of corrosion on the battery terminal at 10:23, it needs to be desoldered from the board and soaked in vinegar
