There are some UA-camrs who do "restorations" that end up damaging or degrading the product in some way, and i always appreciate how immaculate and careful your skills are. You could do serious museum-quality work, I'm sure of it!
The gba is going to be 20 its next birthday and the ds is 16 and the 3ds is almost 10 years old. All of these feel like 11 years old 7 years old and 3 years old crazy how time flys by
I think the gba sp aged really well, the clamshell design still looks good nowadays, the buttons look sleek, and the font used for the advance logo still looks modern.
I absolutely love to clean my handhelds, so I feel like home in this channel. In fact, I have learned many tricks from you here and there, so thank you! Also, I love the importance you give to all the process with your camera shots, it's really a lot of effort, and the result is incredible.

really been enjoying that there are a few gameboy modifying and restoring channels all with incredibly high production value. Thank you for putting so muc heart and soul into your videos Elliot. Very enjoyable to watch and have inspired a few gameboy related projects for myself as well.
The spray joke was pretty dangerous! Hope the spare didn't hurt your eyes!!! BTW big fan of your retro game consoles videos, plz give us more interesting content!
Hi from France, just discovered your channel 2 days ago, and what a pleasure, exactly the kind of "relaxing retro gaming video" I was looking for. Thanks
I love your content soooo muuuch, i pray the best for you in life as a thanks for all of the great and enjoyable content you have given us across the years. And above all Happy Anniversary!! (Ik it’s after it happened but still, hope you had fun!!) Many thanks from you followers and viewers!!!!
Fun Fact: For those who are interested, these GBA's were mainly sold at the Rip Curl line of stores in the beach city Torquay! If I recall, I've seen one in the past- but that's just me!
I happened to get a pikachu sp years ago for about $12 and I had no clue what it was worth, I just loved Nintendo and Pokémon. I’m very pleased to say it’s still in perfect condition and lives in a protective case with my red sp. 👍🏻
I have one of these, I bought it at a Ron Jon surf outfitters in the US. But it was listed as a used thing. I've never seen another game boy for sell in a sporting goods store like that, it was just randomly next to a stack of Oakley
A trick I use to remove the front part of the screen is use an sewing neddle to remove the little spongy pads. The chance of damaging them or the frame drops a lot with a needle.
Coll video and cool repair, thanks for showing all the process as always, love your channel. Are you going to make more videos about more retro stuff like casset players? I just watched a couple and they are cool too.

Ive seen a fair amount in Australian 2nd hand shops but not recently. Maybe they were horded at some point i recall they were sold at retail for a while. As far as SPs go not the rarest but id imagine importing them would be hard.
when he said they only came out here in straya i did a quick ebay search n found a near complete rip curl shell for $25. score :P should have it next week
@@bigtasty1082 Yeah that makes sense. Kind of like how tokyo exclusives aren't that big a deal if your in japan. Never gave these much thought till now tbh.
Considering the fact that not nearly as many Rip Curl GBAs were made as the standard, plain GBAs and the fact that they were only sold in Australia and only available for purchase at certain retailers, I'd say they're pretty rare.
I've still got mine, in australia. I think my parents got it from target, which is strange cos target doesn't sell rip curl clothing as any aussie would know
Where do you get replacement screens? I'm at my wit's end with Retro Modding. Ordered a cgb-001 replacement screen and the one they shipped me is too big, the ribbon cable is the wrong size and also too short. It was advertised to fit the cgb-01 that I've owned for decades, but it sure doesn't! And cant seem to get ahold of them about a refund or replacement now. 🤬 Any recommendations of a more reliable place to get the proper screen? Cheers. On the bright side, they at least got the tri-wing/Phillips screwdriver set and glass replacement dmg lens, but that's not too difficult to mess up lol
I've seen a gba sp battery project where you buy a normal battery and attach it to a circuit board so it fits in the SP. maybe something to look into rather than potentially dodgy SP clone batteries?
Hey Elliot, do you know where we can get pre-timmed GBA SP shells for an IPS mod? RetroGaming doesn't seem to be selling them anymore, and ebay isn't listing anything very reliable as far as I can tell.
Really sorry about the audio levels! Had an absolute mare! Hopefully you can still enjoy the video! Thank you so much for 298k! We’re so close!

I can't explain why, but ut's always so satisfying seeing a GBA SP being reassembled, especially after the shell got a clean.

Really do agree with Elliot on the iFixit kit. I got one myself and it's helped me a lot with reshelling and reassembling gameboys.
You can harvest those springs from floppy disk doors. You might need to trim the legs.
