- Today we are playing with the Davinci Resolve Speed Editor from Blackmagic Design. Seeing how it works, if it can really speed up your editing, and compare it with other products in a similar category, the Elgato Stream Deck and the LoupeDeck Live.

I know I definitely want one, and need to jump on it while Studio is included... for rough cut/ just trimming out dead space in my A roll it looks like a dream.
BHPhoto has the Resolve combo as well. I've had it in my cart for a while waiting for it to come back in stock. I was looking at it as a freebie when purchasing the commercial version of Resolve.
I have the adobe suite so I was excited for something like this but meh, I'll go look somewhere else. This looks amazing.

I've just got one second hand for about 170GBP w/o the licence - as I've already got one. Been using it for 2 days now and I love it. The jog wheel is the best part and the button layout makes sense. Highly recommend reading the manual.
I would love to see a video of you setting up the Stream Deck for programs like Premiere Pro, Davinci etc. Loved the video!

I picked up the Speed Editor as I was working in Davinci and considering buying the paid version and getting this free is the final piece that made me take the plunge. I was glad that I did some research before it arrived as it gave me time to buy a USB-C to USB-A otherwise I wouldn't have been to use this and as you said for the price this is annoying but easily fixed with a cheep adapter. It will take time to fully learn how to use it best for me but I do think it will speed up my process. I think the wheel on this really stands it apart from the streamdeck and given that it is designed from the ground up to be used as an editing tool will make it more useful than the streamdeck, however, if someone already owns a streamdeck then this video might have opened up ideas form them that they hadn't considered before. Interesting video, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on if you would use this same tool if it worked with FCP as that's your preferred software??
This was my thought on it. I bought it as a Resolve Studio license and the free device to go with it. If I feel like it is not needed or I want to use something else I can sell it for $200-ish on ebay and roll that into another dedicated piece of hardware. If there was an option to move to other items later, that would make sense.
That said, a streamdeck profile where you have buttons to swap to different profiles each time you move to a new page with buttons dedicated to the work for that section (cut, edit, audio, etc) that could work out well. The jog dial though - that is a big help.
I opted for the tour box instead and love that I can use it without looking at it at all. I also tend to use it on the edit page as I don't really use the cut page much at all

I have a Stream Deck that I use for Streaming and other programs that I use while streaming. Might have to have a look at seeing what shortcuts etc. I can put into it. But I do wonder if I can make a folder for each of the different parts of Da Vinci Resolve (One folder for Cuts, One for edits etc)?

Mine took a long time to arrive, Black Magic said they've had a problem getting some parts so haven't been able to make then quick enough
Same here! Ordered in late November. Now in mid-late February and still no sign of it. Sadly, B&H is not so good at order/backorder notifications, so I am stuck still guessing when or IF it will ever get here.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that sees what a dumpster fire the Loupedeck live is. It worked alright at release before the new MacOS Big Sur update. The hardware is easily the best, but the software makes the thing utterly useless for both editing and live streaming. I got it at release and will hold onto it in the hope they fix the software, but as of right now, they are using a web based software (you used to be able to right click and view source, wtf).
How does it is now? Have You tried new Loupedeck Software 5.0? Does this update changes things at the level of simple interface and experience?
@@RolandsBriedis it’s gotten a lot better, but it’s still not what a streamdeck offers. I’m actually using it quite a bit for editing but not for streaming.
I wanted to upgrade to the Studio version so getting the license / speed editor bundle was a no brainer even now that BM is charging an extra $100 for the editor. I’m new to Resolve but used Lumafusion for couple of years. The workflow I’ve been using on the Speed Editor is to first scroll though the source files, trimming in and out then appending to timeline.
Is this still available with purchace of Davinci Resolve in Canada?
Why did they change there minimum requirements to an i9? I can’t run the editor anymore after using it for two years

Would this work with a usb 3 to usb c cable if you have one of those? I couldn’t see why not, but I’m not super familiar with the differences in usb connectors.
I just bought a little USB-C to USB-A connector and it works fine. Cost a few pound on amazon

Can you file your DaVinci stream deck profile please
The only reason I got one is that it came free with Resolve. After using it I wouldn't pay extra for it. I feel to make it worth the money for the purchase of a standalone product, I would need to use it for much more than just the cut page (which I rarely use). I love the Jog wheel though. I would like to see it implemented more to zoom in and out on clips, move Y AND X positions, control effects, color grading, etc.

Can you explain how you edit your sound that it sounds that good. I mean, your mic isn't even in the scene visible, so it's far away from your mouth, but the sound is decent. How do you do that
I’m going to assume he uses a shotgun mic on a boom arm. Just like for TV and movies, you’d have the mic be just out of frame of the camera so it’s still as close as possible without being so far it leads to bad audio or so close that it’s in the shot.
Sam uses a shotgun mic and I EQ it in post to make it sound “full”

Might as well sit back for a while. It is mid-late February (2021) and I have been "impatiently" waiting on mine since November (2020). Still no word on the backorder status.
@@NJP76 me too, ordered 2 weeks after it was released/announced. I wish I got at least the studio key meanwhile, but Blackmagic has some weird policy so it's not possible. So actually it was almost 2 months when I wrote my previous message.
@@Nrde Well! I finally got an E Mail from B&H today (March 8, 2021). The Speed Editor and the Resolve Key have been shipped. Scheduled to be here by the 10th. Finally!
@@NJP76 Excellent, I got the key also couple of weeks ago, and they said the hardware is stuck in the Uk-brexit customs hulabaloo. But it's coming, and it's nice to get the studio key at least.
@@Nrde Interesting. The message I received said that both were on the way. Even if it is only the Key, at least I will have that, since I have already upgraded to DR17 (free version). I also purchased a little Shuttle Express device to use while waiting on the Speed Editor. I really like this little device. In some ways it is more versatile than the Speed Editor in that it is not restricted to one program. That said, I am still really looking forward to getting my hands on the Speed Editor.
Well, guys, I cannot help it. I am addicted to gadgets. LOL. I watched a few videos and I think the point that is missing is......When your streaming the stream deck helps a lot. I actually love the fact I can switch to computer control and manage the computer as well as other devices like starting and stopping cameras with the ATEM mini ISO. I am buying for a student who is just learning to use all these things but I did not know you could order the DeVenti for free if you bought the added software. So now I realized that people are most likely ordering the software and getting the device for free and then selling it on eBay to suckers like me????????? HA HA. You know what, I will send it back and just upgrade the software. I'm game for learning new stuff. Every day we learn something new. I have a bad memory and learning shortcuts and remembering them is hard for me. But I will try to take this to the next level. Thanks for your help
Maybe if it's a Mac it may be lacking USB-C (I do not know and can't speak to that), but every desktop or laptop I've built/owned over the last 3-4 years has had a USB-C port.

Sam, I understand that you have a relationship with Adorama, but stating that only they are promoting the bundle deal with the studio key and speed editor is incredibly misleading. B&H actively promotes this as well, and I believe that Amazon also may have this. Such predatory and misleading information is incredibly sad to see coming from someone who has been an invaluable source of information over the past few years.
I also want to add that not disclosing affiliate links, sponsorships, and other business relationships/conflicts of interest is illegal, not to mention predatory and misleading. This is not to say that affiliates and sponsorships are illegal or bad, but they need to be properly disclosed without conveniently forgetting about competitors. Take Linus' video sponsored by Intel: even though the video portrays Intel in a positive light (obv), he still makes sure to clarify that blanket statements like "Intel has the most powerful CPU for gaming" are clarified with statements like "at the time of filming" or "until Zen 3 comes out", and none of his statements suggest that Intel is the *only* option.

I also recorded this segment a while ago, and you're right we should've included a "at the time of filming" disclaimer, and at the time of filming it was the only one to promote that offer. I have included the speed editor from B&H too. I also was sure I had a disclaimer for affiliate links in the description, it's on all my older videos so I may have removed it by accident from this one.
