I feel this young lady (Jo) feels ashamed of her "old van" build. But, to me this is a amazing build. I LOVE how she said I didnt know how to do electrical and just came up with using a flash light, didnt know how to do plumbing and put in a hand pump & plastic container jug. This is REAL life problems solving. And, it ALL works great. I love these types of van tours. Not eveyone has $100,000 to build a Mercedes vans (which are over priced) and build out or hire a builder to put in a "Perfect" van. Which are not interesting to most as they are just copy cats of the ones on yt. Jo has built a one of a kind wonderful home!! She should be so proud of her self. This is a fantastic build. Love it all. She reminds us all to just go for it. To figure it out as you go. Make it simple. "A Simple life is the best life "as they say.

I been living in a van since 2019 and have several different Chevrolet G series models . I fixed up the first one out of the junk yard with a New Mexico title . It wàs super clean body wise and only need minor transmission rebuild . I love converting vans . Was a carpenter /mechanic my whole life . And I should have done this when I was kid . Instead of house and shop . Now I just live on land and fix up old vans and love it
YES, ALL THAT SHE IS, YET SHE IS SHOWING WHAT SHE DID TO THE VAN SHE KIND OF LAUGHS AS IF SHE WERE EMBARRASSED! NO YOUNG LADY YOU DID A PERFECT JOB FEEL PROUD OF IT
She is absolutely right! I needed a place to stay and my credit was trash. I had very little money and k Bought a Honda van. I didn’t do much to it when I first moved in it. I had an old memory foam twin mattress I cut apart for my bed and put a small skinny shelf in it and that’s all I needed! I did get a storage after about 2 months so I could have less clutter and get supplies for my true build. I’m gonna get a box truck and do a simple build because I’m a simple guy! Van life has been one of my best decisions I have made
I’ve watched dozens of women travelers’ videos and this is the first one who has even mentioned dealing with periods on the road. Very glad to see it; it’s worth discussion. Brava!
You did it the SMART way. No mortgage, no car payment. Financial freedom. You know what's new in terms of parts. I use an annual Planet Fitness membership for about $230/year here in the US I can go to any location while traveling. Not sure if they have Love's Travel locations in CA but def check that out, they are a safe place to park for the night. They have laundry, van hook ups, parts and sundries for travel life, a fast food restaurant, a sundries store, gas at a discount, oil and small parts. I purchase their 20/mo internet. I make my travel plans around their locations so I can get some cardio and general workout/shower daily or EOD. Be proud of yourself. You crushed it.
I have been watching van builds since I discovered it 6 or 7 months now... and I've seen solo women in vans and they doing what they have to do, but of all of them you're the second one, the first one is a single mother of a young boy that could not afford rent and she build out a beautiful van, and like you her van was older she did what she had to do. I'm in admiration of you're determination, your can-do attitude, your smile your understanding "that sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and that includes buying a van that you have to fix". Those people that are criticizing are always the one that don't have a solution, they just want to criticize.. don't listen to those people you're doing great. Yes you put a lot of money into it, but sometimes again we have to do what we have to do as women as human beings.. and I am so happy that you have some place to sleep, you have a home I don't look at this as your "van".. I look at this as your home. With the cost of rent where everybody is crying because they could either pay their rent or starve.. you have something that you can actually save money and maybe someday buy a brand new van. This is not a van, this is your home. One of the things I have learned when it comes to instilling a shower, you can get a pan from one of those farm stores that cater to Farmers and I think they called them troughs they're like 50 bucks or less, and they'll show you how to insulate it and turn it into a shower, it's so easy.. it's what the animals drink out of. A lot of people even those people with the high end Vans are buying the larger ones for maybe a hundred and fifty dollars insulating it and turning them into shower pans, in some cases they've actually turned them into tubs. I hope you're able to get electricity soon because one of the things that as woman at that time of the month I just want to lay in bed and watch TV what a nice cozy blanket so that's what you need to get a tub fixed and electricity so you can get a TV, or at least get a jackery you can plug in a TV watch Netflix. Your an amazing human being.. absolutely amazing and I have nothing but the utmost respect and love for you. Safe Travels sis💛❤🚌
VERY WELL SAID. SHE HAS A NICE LITTLE HOME, NOT A VAN. RENT AND MORTGAGE PRICES ARE SUPER CRAZY. SHE DID WHAT SHE HAD TO DO, AND SHE DID VERY WELL FOR HERSELF
She did a good job with the van but i have a question For all the nomads living out of a van or rv or suv why just the van , my mom moved across country when first married (1950s) they bought a pull behind truck travel trailer , She said it is safer and smarter if the car needs to go in the repair shop they dont have your whole house in the shop where they can steal your stuff or keep it until you pay the bill. Also if it is not repairable it is easier to buy a new truck to pull your trailer than it is to dismantel your vans interior and move it to a new van.
Great job kiddo. I'm proud for you! To not have the background for building and living alone you have you have made your mind up, set your goals, planned your interior, and manufactured your tiny home. Don\t dream it, be it. BTW great ceiling! Life is great, enjoy it and be careful. I have an 87 GMC I have gutted and plan on converting it. I have the flooring, cooktop, refrigerator, and water tanks and also have experience building so I hope soon to have it rigged up and take my chance to enjoy nature. I used to take my girls camping during the summers when they were youngsters and will probably give my van to her family once I am finished using it.
I really needed to hear this. I bought an old van too. And right out of the gate, it needs an engine. I was lamenting of all the money I am putting into it. But this young woman is right! If you have no resources for new or better, you fix it. Thank you.
I spent $7500 on a 2007 Chevy Exprees 2500 from a dealer. 2 days later the major expenses rolled in. Luckily I have a mechanic who understands my financial challenges.
If you can buy an older vehicle, DO IT!!! They need initial $$ to get them mechanically sound, but when you do, they are so much easier to work on and cheaper to fix. Parts are pretty easy to come by. And, unlike the newer computerized vehicles, there's no sensors to shut you down because one little sensor goes out, then you have to spend $$$ to find out what it is, and the darn thing won't run until you take it to a shop. In an older vehicle, when something goes wrong mechanically, its usually just one thing, and it doesn't affect the running of the whole van/truck/car....
Congratulations! After my Mom passed at 55 my Dad bought a bread truck fixed up as a camper. When we were young the family packed up sandwiches and drinks and went out driving around on Sundays. I loved it. Got the bug. After my husband passed and my children were grown I bought a van at 67. No long trips but, fulfilling my dream. Now 72 and enjoying life. You're doing it now on the cheap. Imagine what it would be costing you if you had a house! I love your old van and that you didn't buy new❣️
Hi You are so refreshing and truthful. People that have money dont understand having yo make choices using the funds you have. It might be expensive to some people but you have to fix things as you go along. You have a great home. Be Blessed
I lived the van life during Covid and really helped me to realize that I prefer the practicality of a simpler life, so I bought a camper and converting to a tiny house. You should be proud of yourself. Never gave up, just continued plugging along. You must be an inspiration to young girls throughout the world.
I bought a 79 Chevy aristocrat. Me and my dog will never be homeless again. I love it. Cuddled up in it right now feeling lucky I have it. Fixing it up as I go. Lots of fun. I have a newfound sense of freedom.
Props. alot of work and cost for wood. I also like that she has a dope place but isn't tripping on her exterior like other women. She knows what true value is
This lady has got it going on. She's given great advice that everybody can benefit from. Do what you can with what you can afford and get out there!!💪 You'll figure it out as you go.
Cedar is an excellent choice! It smells awsome, and is a very light wood! Bugs hate cedar i think too!.....And, light source is light! Does not need to be fancy, it does the job.
She’s the first person I’ve heard make mention of “that time” while doing van life. Been looking for that transparency as I’m preparing for the transition! Love her setup! Thank you for sharing!🫶🏽 sending much 💕 and light!✨
Same! I'd honestly probably just get a cheap hotel room for a couple of days so I could have access to unlimited shower and standard plumbing. Maybe once in a while get a really fancy hotel and treat it like a mini vacation.
Jo, They have plastic liners for half barrels in the pond section of home improvement stores and you could probably use that for a liner for your barrel. I have had one oustide for years in my little pond and it has never cracked even when it freezes in winter. I think the barrel is a great idea and I think I will be using this idea in my van build as well. Thank you.
I have watched a lot of videos about vans etc. This is the first time I have heard a woman talk about living in a van with that time of the month. Good content.
I think she did a awesome job. The tiles are really pretty, and the theme is really nice. All those things like timing chain , water pump are all parts that usually last a while especially the older stuff. I live in a older rv but I dont travel in it, and I have horrible interior decorating skills but it works and like she said it's very comforting in knowing that you own it even if its older, no shame in that and the older stuff is usually built better.
She’s really real for saying handling your menstrual cycle while living in a van is a pain. That’s always the first thing I think about when I think about living this lifestyle. It’s hard enough to feel clean and comfortable in a regular house, but on the road. Not fun, I’m sure.
I love this and she's lovely and so pleasant 💕 She did an excellent job on her build, it looks clean and cozy, and it seems practical and approachable. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Kudos to you for over-coming or working through your challenges, and choosing to find resolution. Your van is cool and provides security and comfort ... a home that you can be proud of. Facing our fears is never easy, yet we grow stronger, so keep doin life your way. Be safe and own your "peace" always.
What a lovely van Great job. So inviting. Be proud of yourself.good lnvestment. Youarebuying freedom. Priceless. Have a good life. You remind me of myself when I was young.
Awesome BUILD!!! ")- Kudos to YOU for your efforts as I have been living in apartments since I was 18 or living with roommates and now I have been forced to give up my apartment, put my things in storage and move into a weekly motel so I only have my towels, sheets, clothes and laptop. I have decided to just bite the bullet and go into van life!!!! :)-
I live in a 6,000 sq ft house with a pool, spa, and all kinds of "things". I actually use less than 1,000 sq ft of it, and haven't seen most rooms in months. Although I can afford everything just fine, and I consider myself a happy person, this young lady is happier than I have ever been. And the reason I put things in quotation marks above, is because I've learned that that's all they are is just things. And the most important things in life.... Are not "things". Thank you to her for reminding me of that. I love your home, the cedar, and your freedom!
It is super smart to buy and live within your means. I would rather live experiences than stuff. Your van is awesome and you have done a great job. Safe travels ! Just do it ! I’m doing solo mobile living also and I love it- truly the best experience ever.
Your the first one I’ve heard talk about the realities of that time of the month living in a van. Thank you for your honesty. I can imagine that’s exactly the way you describe it. You don’t want to move.
I felt this, I'm in a similar position lucky My son can help me with my cat and dog while I live and build my shuttle bus. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ love that let go!
Good afternoon Jo. What can I say? These videos keep getting better and better - with superlative content. Your remodeling skills are outstanding. But that's of course to be expected from a talented and strong self sufficient woman such as yourself. Thanks for sharing a look at your life exploring the Great Outdoors in a van - and have a great Sunday. 😎😎😉😉
I've been obsessed with these van life videos. This is the first one I've seen that addresses the matter of your menstrual cycle. Thank you for being up front with this issue. I can't imagine going through this and not having access to daily showers and plumbing. I'd probably just get a cheap hotel because a compost toilet and bird baths are not gonna cut it.
I absolutely love your van. It reminds me of the 70’s which had the BEST type of vans. I am wanting to do something like that. I hope one day I can. Especially when I retire. Thank you for posting your video.😊
Very nice cabin on wheels, very courageous girl! Respect and admiration to you,,you don’t give up! Bravo girl! Beautiful deed! May the best be with you!
good job on your build Jo, you did it on your own and should be proud. And, you are right, if something should happen - you won't be homeless. Ignore those that criticize - this is your adventure/life - you do you! enjoy the journey
I love your van build. Like the rustic interior. It's great to see someone do so well on a first time. You're an inspiration to someone who has not done this yet. Good choices!
love how u keep it simple but have everything u need n cedar is good idea creature s don't like cedar.....I use a peppermint spray to clean with smells good n works great.great job
Im 60 yo and admire you, your thinking and van decision. And I Love your van. KISS: keep it simply silly. Perfect. I bought my first van at 55yo, after raising my 4 children. A dream come true. I was told i spent too much for my 1993, 18ft van conversion but I hv never regretted it. Like you said, I will always have a place to stay. I love it so much. Last yr I purchased a 1997, 22ft class C bc I really wanted a table and seating to do my hobbies. I love it too. Still hv the van! You are so fun! Thanks for sharing your van. I need to get a wood stove too!
Currently I am in the middle of doing EXACTLY what you are doing right now! I Even had to work on the front and rear suspension. Right now you are three steps ahead of me. I heard about getting a membership to an anytime fitness for around 30 bucks a month. This gives you a place to shower 24/7 some even have a washer and dryer.

May want to look into USB strip lights. Works well for stealth camp as usually you can control a lot with brightness and they use very little power!

It wàs super clean body wise and only need minor transmission rebuild . I love converting vans . Was a carpenter /mechanic my whole life . And I should have done this when I was kid . Instead of house and shop . Now I just live on land and fix up old vans and love it
while most vanlife videos on youtube are for show, i feel this is the most real vanlife video.
She seems like a wonderful person, radiating warmth, confident, courageous & honest
I had very little money and k
Bought a Honda van.
Beautiful said. She has my most respect, and yes she has a "Home", not a overpriced Van. Much love for ya!
God bless u.
VERY WELL SAID. SHE HAS A NICE LITTLE HOME, NOT A VAN. RENT AND MORTGAGE PRICES ARE SUPER CRAZY. SHE DID WHAT SHE HAD TO DO, AND SHE DID VERY WELL FOR HERSELF
She did a good job with the van but i have a question
For all the nomads living out of a van or rv or suv why just the van , my mom moved across country when first married (1950s) they bought a pull behind truck travel trailer ,
She said it is safer and smarter if the car needs to go in the repair shop they dont have your whole house in the shop where they can steal your stuff or keep it until you pay the bill. Also if it is not repairable it is easier to buy a new truck to pull your trailer than it is to dismantel your vans interior and move it to a new van.
I concur!
Great video. Even with putting $15,000-$20,000 into her van, that's well less than what a new van with no build would cost. I
What a wonderful human being she is. Enjoy your beautiful van and your beautiful life ❤. Thanks for sharing this one 🤙
This is the best van build I've seen! Love it ! She did an excellent job !
The "cocoon of cedar" is the perfect description. It's like a cabin, so cozy looking. I'd never go to work!
@@casual454t1 Chevy is a good make. Wishing you the best
I bought an old Xfinity service van. I built it out as my camper van. But yes, not everyone can afford new.
@@user-ub7jn9sx8qI'm convinced now 😊 Thank you 🙏🏾
Congratulations!
I love your old van and that you didn't buy new❣️
Dad, sandwiches, driving around🥺
Hi
You are so refreshing and truthful.
Love her approach and honesty. The van design is so different from the others too. Wish I was that creative.
That's so cosy. I love how your bed is tucked in, so it's not so open
Loved everything about this build and the wonderful woman who owns it.
Cedar is an excellent choice! It smells awsome, and is a very light wood! Bugs hate cedar i think too!.....And, light source is light! Does not need to be fancy, it does the job.
I know this is about the van build but man this lady is so attractive and it's not just because she is pretty, she seems so down to earth and chill
Yeah, se is hot 😂😂
She’s the first person I’ve heard make mention of “that time” while doing van life. Been looking for that transparency as I’m preparing for the transition! Love her setup! Thank you for sharing!🫶🏽 sending much 💕 and light!✨
Same! I'd honestly probably just get a cheap hotel room for a couple of days so I could have access to unlimited shower and standard plumbing. Maybe once in a while get a really fancy hotel and treat it like a mini vacation.
My dream is having a van I can stand up in.i got a minivan but it's a chore to crawl
Beautiful woman with a wonderful van build. World needs more people like her, honest, genuine, down to earth.
Thank you.
Super cool van with tons of personality! The more rustic feel with the cedar interior and the wood stove is unique.
You have done an amazing job restoring your home. Kudos to you young lady.
You have a pretty cool van built, I like it.
This is my favorite build of all!!!!! Love the cabin feel.
I like her honesty. She did a great job! I wish her all the best.
In addition to all you spoke of, the aesthetic and the vibe spot on! ☮️👍🏻 💚
Love the bed corner: so cozy and great looking
Refreshingly open and honest
Such an interesting Van life interview. 👍 🌲 🎥
Your van looks great! Cant wait to see your boat conversion.
Thanks for letting us in ur home!
Be safe, stay well and God bless!
Kudos to you for over-coming or working through your challenges, and choosing to find resolution. Your van is cool and provides security and comfort ... a home that you can be proud of. Facing our fears is never easy, yet we grow stronger, so keep doin life your way. Be safe and own your "peace" always.
Your Van is amazing.
Your on the right track. It's nice that you can live on the go. Your blessed.
I think this just may be the most perfect life of a van build. She did an awesome job.
That's a great honest assessment van life. I did it for you one year and I thought it was great. Thank you for sharing.
That's realy good story shared ,also a real nice van
What a lovely van Great job. So inviting. Be proud of yourself.good lnvestment. Youarebuying freedom. Priceless. Have a good life. You remind me of myself when I was young.
Please realizehow cleaver, gifted, practical and beautifully you are while you are still young.amazing. good luck
Love your nest.
You've done a great job.
Happy trails. 👍🏻
Awesome! Love the cabin-like interior, and mostly your philosophies on life! Brilliant ❤
You have a cozy comfortable adorable little shelter.
Nice subtle flex guy!
Guy?
Who knows??
Yeah dude way to subtle flex and make it about how successful you are , yet appreciate her little can do spirit !
It is super smart to buy and live within your means. I would rather live experiences than stuff. Your van is awesome and you have done a great job. Safe travels ! Just do it ! I’m doing solo mobile living also and I love it- truly the best experience ever.
What an amazing lady...the sky is the limit...your abundant blessings are on the way
💯DEFINITELY ONE OF YOUR TOP 3 VAN INTERVIEWS/TOURS/VANPERSON😍
Only the best positive vibes for you !! You are so talented and strong Stay cool and Safe 👏🤗
You are so awesome!!
With a beautiful smile 😍
Love the van!!
Love her ideas yup simple interior yet Cosy. Take Care
Beautiful, you've done well, keep going, your awesome . If you come to the states enjoy your travels.
Your the first one I’ve heard talk about the realities of that time of the month living in a van. Thank you for your honesty. I can imagine that’s exactly the way you describe it. You don’t want to move.
great build, smart move , every thing happens for a reason
Loved her thought process.
This is awesome on so many levels. Your rage life, ride the wave attitude is beautiful and contagious. Perfectly matches your incredible build!
beautiful advice from a beautiful young lady. wishing her and her partner much success on the boat build out.
I love it! Super simple and it’s beautiful. Plus she seems like a sweet, kind soul. 😊
I felt this, I'm in a similar position lucky My son can help me with my cat and dog while I live and build my shuttle bus. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ love that let go!
Love her van it is just like a cabin. Wish her the best.
Very very NICE. I LOVE the cabin Look
I absolutely love your van. It reminds me of the 70’s which had the BEST type of vans. I am wanting to do something like that. I hope one day I can. Especially when I retire. Thank you for posting your video.😊
Love what you have done to the van.
Absolutely brilliant vehicle and Enjoy beautiful weather 🥰😘
Way to go. Beautiful outlook. Nice van. Have fun on your adventure. Thank you for sharing your sweet space.
You go girl. Hi from Connecticut USA. YOUR VERY BRAVE.
The interior is so cool! ! !
Very nice cabin on wheels, very courageous girl! Respect and admiration to you,,you don’t give up! Bravo girl! Beautiful deed! May the best be with you!
beautiful van, so cozy
Her light is literally my nightlight/reading light! I’m using it right now except mine is HF brand but it definitely is enough light!
good job on your build Jo, you did it on your own and should be proud. And, you are right, if something should happen - you won't be homeless. Ignore those that criticize - this is your adventure/life - you do you! enjoy the journey
I love your van, your attitude, and you seem like a genuine, kind person! I wish you the best on your van life adventures! 🙌
I love your van build. Like the rustic interior. It's great to see someone do so well on a first time. You're an inspiration to someone who has not done this yet. Good choices!
So refreshing to come across an honest review of Van life!!
Love it!!! You are awesome. Did fantastic. Love the wood stove.
You Go Girl.
God Bless
Safe travels.
Perfect. One of the best I have seen. And especially the little stove. Ty for sharing.
Your Tiny Van Home Is The Best because You Are So Very Original & You Have Worked Hard & You Are Happier, because You Are A Very Thankfull Person!!
The first believable DIY, female solo traveler video I've seen. Loving the shower idea, and the fireplace.
Very well done and cozy looking.
This is really excellent thank you. In this day and age, not becoming a slave to the system is the big-brain way. Well done!
She is Amazing, God bless her😘
love how u keep it simple but have everything u need n cedar is good idea creature s don't like cedar.....I use a peppermint spray to clean with smells good n works great.great job
I'm heading out in the spring.your the epitome of Adapt and Overcome
My truck is a truck.
Building it on the road
Keep rocking
Frig/cooler. Management of it. Great perspective. Folks who have had hard challenges don’t need more but what she says is true for many.
Wow that wood work is beautiful! Super neat setup!
I love your design. You did a great job on your can. Love the cedar idea ! Great ideas.
