Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing your race. This was one of the best running movies I’ve seen in a long time. Great commentary, fabulous music, super editing and just a great combination of visuals and sounds and insights. I’ve never run 100 miler but you’ve got me fully inspired!
Nice video and congrats on your finish! I also started the race in 2023 (and saw myself on your footage of the first climb 😁) but went on to drop out at Courmayeur. One thing I would say to really beware of with UTMB is the 6pm start. This makes nutrition and hydration more difficult, especially if you are someone who is used to running in the mornings. My advice would be to make sure to do enough training runs in the evenings and nights to get yourself used to running & eating at times when you would usually be on the couch or in bed!
Great eye, Jacob! I love how you spotted him from afar. Though Glaze has a pretty signature look and running gate so he's hard to miss. Good catch! Yeah, we ran for a while but I didn't see him much after Les Contamines.
Hey Alberto! It's really emotional, isn't it? No matter where we are on that race course, the beauty and the challenge will always make it amazing. Thanks for sharing!
It seemed like some of the gnarliest sections were in the last 10 miles or so and yet, you looked so strong at the end. Your sense of humor, smile, and positive attitude throughout were magnifique! Congratulations on an excellent race and thank you for an engaging, beautiful, and fun video.
Thanks so much! I appreciate those thoughts and for sharing your observations. In setting up my training plan with my coach, I told him I don't just want to finish this race, I want to finish strong and feeling positive. So most of my training was aimed at keeping gas in the tank for the end and for staying positive and excited through the end. It doesn't always work like that but fortunately it came together for UTMB! I appreciate ya, thanks for watching!
Wow, thank you so much, Jon! It certainly doesn't feel like that, but the hard work is done to make sure that it's not just a finish, but an enjoyable experience too. Sometimes it actually works out like that too! Thanks for watching, Jon! What parts did you enjoy most for future videos?
you are a great inspiration, I have my first 100k race this year. to be honest denmark is very flat, you should rather visit sweden or norway which has amazing nature and some big mountains. wish you all the best.
Thanks so much! (as you know, the harder the section of the race, the harder it is to film, so there were some low moments in there too... just like Javelina, haha). Thanks for being with me on the races!
I’m hoping to get in CCC in 2025 and live in SoCal like you. Are there particular mountain trails you would recommend in the socal or sierra area that you found helpful?
Hey Smashy! Congrats on CCC 2025, i'm sure that was an adventure just to get in. Where do you live in Socal? The sierras are really great, anything up there will be amazing training territory. But Angeles National forest is closer and has tons of great trails and vert. If you're closer to San Diego, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park has beautiful terrain and lots of vertical gain to give you the climbing you'll need for CCC.
What did you think of the late start? I did a 160 mile race which starts a bit later then UTMB. It was really frustrating for me as I got sleep deprived on the first night. As I get up quite early I found it very difficult to no what to do in the morning/ most of the day. I find that if a race starts in the morning I have better odds of not getting sleep deprived. As, I don't have to waste energy in the morning before the race! I am also more of a morning person.
Great question, Alex. What was the start time of your 160 start time? It wasn't my first night start, I've done a few of them before, but honestly I'm not a big fan of them. I think with race week jitters it's already hard enough to get good solid stress-free sleep. So heading into race day start with little sleep, travel, and time change, it's definitely an added layer of exhaustion. I aim to carve out a few hours to rest in the afternoon before the start, but with the way your mind doesn't turn off before the race, it's mostly rest for the body and not as much for the mind. As a morning person, those evening starts aren't serving you so well! Every race comes with it's own set of challenges and UTMB has no shortage of them.
Inspiring video! I want to do UTMB and my plan is 40 hours. So far, I've never been over 20 hours running and the factor I think the most is sleeping. How many naps/rest did you take?
Hey Luis! Thanks for watching! Listen, if you can do 20 hours you can do UTMB and do it under 40. You got this. I took 2 very short power naps. My pacer timed me for 2 10-min naps at Courmeyeur and Champex Lac. But the spaces are so big and loud I didn't really sleep, just quick moments to rest the eyes and legs.
I think that's a safe plan. Doing some strategic naps later in the race, either having crew time you, or putting a timer on your phone if you're running solo. A few minutes here and there can really go a long way. Are you running next year? You'll see, it's quite funny. 120k into a race, Seeing people laying in an open field next to the trail in the bright sun just to get a few moments of rest.
I've got 2 stones and an index score that qualifies me for a mountain 100miler, this year will be my first time to try the ballot, how many times before you got a race slot?
Hey Martin! Congrats on the stones and index. As you know, just getting the qualifications is a challenge in and of itself. I first got my qualifiers in 2015 for a 2016 submission. I submitted 4 times over 5 years to get into the 2020 UTMB. But the pandemic cancelled that one, then i deferred my entry for 2 years till '23. so it was 10 years of work to finally get there, even though I would have been able to race in '20 if it wasn't for the pandemic. I do hear that it's not as competitive now that if you have qualifying points within the index.

Great performance!! The american in jeans you mentioned right in the beginning of the race was Andrew Glaze with his famous jorts ;)
Great eye, Jacob! I love how you spotted him from afar. Though Glaze has a pretty signature look and running gate so he's hard to miss. Good catch! Yeah, we ran for a while but I didn't see him much after Les Contamines.
Great movie, and even more so that I managed to catch it 😊
Thanks so much! I appreciate the watch.
Congrats for get the finish line. I live again the same emotion that i lived in august! Thanks for sharing your video!

You honestly deserve an award for looking so fresh even after 100(!!!!) miles! Unbelievable! Great video! Thanks for sharing this story of yours! 🙂

Really great video
Hey Daan, thanks for watching! you rock. Enjoy the miles! ✌️
Very nice. You looked as comfortable as one can be on most of the video. I think I struggled more on my first marathon.
Thanks so much! (as you know, the harder the section of the race, the harder it is to film, so there were some low moments in there too... just like Javelina, haha). Thanks for being with me on the races!
Great video and congrats on the sub-40hr time.

First of all, why put a whole gel pack into your mouth. Ugh
Haha, you do crazy things on the race course when your brain isn't working properly.
