Watched this the night before I went out and played a round with friends. Dropped the ego, left the driver in the bag, split shots < 230 yds out into two separate shots, played as if bogey was the goal, and broke 90 with an 88!
Broke 100 on Saturday for the first time! Kept driver in the bag all but 2 times. Kept my ball in play and only lost 1 ball on the back 9! Thank you for all the course management tips I feel very confidential in my irons just need to get that way with my driver woods and hybrid
Getting to my free throw distances has gotten me to shoot 84 & 83 the last two rounds. No more going for the green on anything past 200yds saves me so many shots. Thanks baus
Good to set some hard and fast rules. Sometimes i will set a rule that no going for a par 5 green in two unless im inside 215 yards. 220? No. Lay up to wedge
Sup bro, Just went to the driving range for first time yesterday. Decided to teach my self golf as a form of low intensity cardio to compliment my weight loss journey I started last November and your No BS Blunt style of teaching is instantly relatable as I can't stand Fluff pander nonsense. My approach is using nothing but a wedge until i'm proficient w/ that, then a 7 iron and when im proficient w/ both thos and my putter, I will start playing par 3 course 9 holes. I actually did pretty good for my first time at the range, hitting my sand wedge consistently 50-70 yards. Just from grinding about 20-30hrs of your videos as well as Padraig harrington vids. and Michele Low also. Yall 3 are gonna be my YT Golf Coaches as I teach myself the game Completely from scratch as a total beginner. Your channel is a Godsend and Magnificent Library of learning vids. 'Preciate you bro and glad your doing good. I started my Weight Loss Vlog/Journey last November at 546lbs and down to 460's and built over 10lbs lean mass too. However, this all started as "cardio" but I felt my soul tingle yesterday hitting those balls and think this may go somewhere as i'm a fierce competitor, albeit that part of me is a deep slumberer, but when it wakes, it wakes with a vengence and I think something is stirring =)
Me. Padraig. Michelle low. That’s all you need baus. Not a scratch golfer is also great. Your plan is rock solid. Lose the weight and I’ll send you a polo to celebrate. Send me an email one day when you hit goal weight maboi
Broke 90 for the first time today (88). Your videos have given me a confidentiality and course awareness leaving me expecting to put the ball where it needs to be for each shot. Thanks a million playa for all of your content. 6,8,10 toe down is a killer move. 🇮🇪☘️
Love your videos and your enthusiasm! 68 years old, 16 handicap. I tried “the system” on 9 holes this week. Left the driver in my car. Played from the regular Men’s tees, not the senior tees. Planned all the par 4s and 5s for an 80 yard approach shot to the green (comfortable sand wedge). Result: No hero shot attempts. No bunkers or water balls. No shots from behind a tree. No short sided floppers over the bunker. Pretty relaxed round. Shot 44, couple of made 10 foot putts, one double because of a poorly struck approach. With a little more chipping practice I would expect pretty consistent 9’s at 42-43. Thanks Bro! P.S. I love my 60 yard half swing PW to run it up on the green! Way more reliable than trying to stick a 3/4 swing lob shot.
Since I found your channel man I haven’t bothered watching anything else . I started golfing again after 25 yrs gone from 26 hc 100+ to mid 90s to low 90s now 86-87 and a PB 82 now at a respectable 15 hc and improving weekly . Keep up the good work 🏌️⛳️😎
A few weeks ago I broke 100 using your tips, I've been pretty close to going under 90 lately but haven't yet, this weekend is another chance, will definitely see this again before the round, thanks for the help Matt!
I don't comment much but I really enjoy this cannel and appreciate the correct use of statistics. I work as a data scientist and if you want statistics that actually matter here is why this system works: If you try and get to a par 4 in 2 shots and you can execute those 2 shots correctly 7/10 times, you have less than a 50% chance of getting the desired result. If you try to get to the same par 4 in 3 shots with shots you can execute correctly 9/10 times, you a little over a 70% change. Over 18 holes, this really adds up.
Dude, I love you. Just found you last week and have been disciplined in using your advice for breaking 90. Played my best 9 holes ever last week. +7 thru 9. Thank you.
Maddy, you're a genius! I've been following your advice for several months. Yesterday, I went to a course that has always given me trouble. It was a perfect sunny day with low wind. I parred the first 3 holes in a row and I didn't use a driver on any of them. One was a par 3. I used your toe-down pitching technique and left the ball 2 feet from the hole, on a really fast green. In the end I shot 90 but my last 5 rounds prior to yesterday were either 87, 88, or 89.Thank you!
have been watching the Playa in Chief since i got back into golf 3 years ago, I can now say I shoot around 91-92 consistently and have shot as low as 88 before! Thanks Playa!
I love bogey golf. I love this system and every now and then I even sneak a birdie in on a par 5. This system has helped me out a lot. Love the videos.
I started doing the trick of adding 1 stroke to every hole a while ago, Works like a charm. State of mind is the most important part of golf, anything that can help in that regard just do it.
And as Matty boomboom says elsewhere, play from the correct tee box yardage. One way to figure that out is to take how far you hit your 5 iron/hybrid/9 wood and multiply that number by 36. E.g., if you hit this 150 yards, move up to the box that is closest to 5400 yards total. Unless you hit a 5 iron 200 yards, for godsakes move up from the tips!
I have just been getting and using the content of this video, and today, it paid off. Although I didn't break 90 I played 6 under my handicap with 6 pars and 4 bogies. By using your insights I have been enjoying my golf and getting better. So thanks heaps.
Absolutely love this!! Your mindset is the most reasonable thing I’ve seen and heard in how to play golf !! Thx man!! I’ve seen you other videos and same thing, love your way of presenting the game!!
Started playing in December and just broke 100 this past weekend (only 3rd time playing a full 18) thanks to using the ways of the playa. Thanks for making these videos Matty boi!
Hey Baus. Been averaging 99-95 for a few months (started September). Just hit an 88 using your field goal thing, and good chipping and putting. Thanks for the strats
Matty boom boom, your tip from another video about lasering the yardage sticks has me hitting approaches from my free-throw distances like an absolute baus now. Your videos have also snapped me out of YEARS of playing mindless golf and into a more thoughtful game. Improved mood, improved scores, @Golfsidekick is the true Guru.
I started playing golf a few years ago, broke 100 last year and been trying to break 90 since. I do play a lot. I swapped out my game improvement irons for a forged set. Went to a new course and decided to play off the front tees. I hit driver like only twice that ended up pretty good, but I wanted to use my new irons mostly. I didn’t just break 90, I scored an 80!
I used you method to play around of golf it worked great ... play safe, avoided hazards, short game is key, when I got in a bunker I noticed that hole was total crap. you have to keep your mind on the game and plan each shot, not for distance but for position to a shot at the green
This is the secret sauce. It just works. Best golf advice in the world for anyone not a single figure handicapper. This is literally all you need and it is just such a stress-free way to enjoy the great game. Baus-level guidance!
Love it - learnt another lesson - using the same swing shape practice half swing chipping with a 56, gap and pitch to understand distance. Yet again something I had not thought about.
Matty, have watched all of your break 90 videos and just SMASHED my all time record of 94 with an 82 (without a driver). Getting driver-focused lessons this week and Next and am excited to break 80 next 🫡 appreciate all you do brother
One thing to add: use a yardage book to plan ahead. Work your way backwards from hole to that comfortable yardage you like in mid or short iron. Then plan the next club you need to get there. You may need to hit 140 yds twice to get to that comfortable shot or you can plan on that long yardage you feel comfortable hitting and plan to the next shot accordingly. The great thing about yardage book is you can write down the club and approx yardage and outcome and apply the same logic or use a different strategy on that hole the next time you play again. This is something you will not get on a smartwatch or laser range finder.
Thanks so much for the great videos! I am new to golf and I am going to try to improve. I Have shot 96 and 95 last 2 times playing. I am starting to see where I can shave even more shots! It is becoming very fun to play. Stress is gone when playing now. Thanks again!
Great advice for at least 99% of golfers. If you can get down in 3 from inside 100 yards most times and the occasional 2 balances the occasional 4 then you've a game of golf you can always enjoy.
What an excellent video. I totally agree with finding your best hitting club and get to that distance. I am super confident with my pitching wedge and hitting it around 100 yards. So if I can get to that yardage, I know I’m going to be on the green and possibly near the pin almost every time.
There is only one Golf YODA, and he wears a funny hat :) I only started playing golf a month ago, but have been able to make absolute fire progress with your tips on mental game. Especially on the bad days. My first few times on the course went very well, so when I had my first really bad day, it was really an eye-opener on how bad it can feel, when literally every T shot I hit went 90 degrees off from where I was aiming, straight into a bush or water... But I kept calm, resolved to make only the shots I felt the most confidential with, saved a ton of double and triple bogies, and ended the round feeling I actually survived a very unlucky day, with a still very respectable score. If I hadn't seen your videos, I think I would have quit golf that day :).
I just broke 100 on a difficult course for the first time. I definitely follow your blueprint. I still can’t figure out why my 3 wood goes farther than my driver. Chipping and putting better was the difference in a 104 and a 95. Now to get my driver swing fixed…
It’s so strange to me that I never really knew how to play this game until this channel. Until now it’s just been about hitting a ball. Bravo Matty BB!
I don't know if you refer to your teaching as zen, either way I am a big fan of how you're able to cut through the bs when giving advice. You're highly practical and you focus on the players personal connection to a round of golf, which brings me even more pleasure when playing the game.
Wat-a-tip! lol. I think I was happier about making it through 18 without loosing a ball, than I was shooting an 88 this Saturday. Used the same ball on Sunday, and made it through 12 holes, before slicing it into the corn fields on 13. Using 1 ball for 30 holes may have been my greatest golfing achievement!
@@kitsu0099 There is a course round here cut out of forest. The club you use off the tee is dictated by the width of the hole and not the length. That is what I mean by getting the ball from the 1st tee to the house. Well done on 30 holes. It's nice to wear a ball out rather than lose it.
Played like shit on my last round cause my mental game still sucks BUT lost only 1 ball and three putted once on the whole 18. This stuff really works, can't wait when i get my head into the game, gonna break 100 for sure!
Another great video!!! Just got back from the course working on the short game. I had to swap the tee for a different colored ball due to a bad back years ago. And I just hit the ball without looking for my next round of distance control.
Been swinging well following the wayadaplaya rules, not overswinging, knowing where to miss, playing low tarrif shots, had an 86 last Saturday but that doesn't tell the story of the round. 44 putts 😞, 3 of those were 1 putts, so 41 putts for 15 greens. Never been a confidential putter but that's a new low. Got the Bob Rotella POOYM video ready to press play, wish me luck Matty Boom Boom. Handicap is 13.7
Wow perfect video for me! I listened to the old ones before my rounds! Best game ever striking the ball last week-end! 7 green in regulation is a personnal best for me. I lost 3 balls o.b from the tee because I took out driver just because my friends hit nice shots before me, I had planned my hybrid. Felt so stupid. Major problem is that I 3 putted 7 FUCKING times! I usually 3 putt 3times a round average. 7 green in regulations but was always a bit too much far from the pin and the greens were very slow and tough to feel. So....I shot a 93 with 3 o.b and 7 - 3 putts!!! Shows me how much I could've scored if I kept my plan and putted just a bit better.... WAY OF THE PLAYA BOYFRIENDS.
I have found my 48 degree gap wedge works well as a 40 yd or less club. Using a putter swing. I dont even touch my 52 or 56 unless i need the height for going over small hill or sand. The putter swing with gap wedge just seems to do a nice little chip and run. No real need for a pile of wedges on most public courses in the flat land known as Ohio.
@@GolfSidekickI haven't golfed in 20 years. Literally relearning the game, with a much older body. Had 4 pars on saturday, but till finished with a 98. Such a waste of 4 pars lol
I curse myself because I’m not a big hitter and can’t make greens in regulation. The not keeping score during the round is crucial but difficult. Some great points yet again.. Fab channel 👍👍✌️
Totally works shot a stress free 9 hole 43 this evening will sleep well knowing I’m not a pro or an asshole well at least tonight :) great advice thanks for sharing :)
Hello from down under in Sydney my friend. Love your videos. You mentioned in another video at one point that you had special instruction on compressing your irons. I know how important this is and I'm struggling with this a little. Are you able to do a video on your thoughts please? Russ
This week on my first hole I completely missed my tee shot on a 340y par 4, I hit my 4i 180 left under the trees. bad lie, fw bunker in front of me, branches hanging over. I used a punch shot and hit it front green with 40y left. a little chippy on the green, and made a 6feet put for par. playa style.😎
Genuine question Matty. Been following you for awhile and trying to incorporate these tips and in my last round of going for "bogey golf" my mindset seemed to become "well if I now suddenly don't make bogey, now it's a double or worse." How can I reframe my mindset toward bogey golf to be more positive and less detrimental to my mental game
Hey Matt. Do you have a video where you discuss how many yards are lost depending on different lies and wind speeds/directions? I saw you mentioned L.E.W.D. in an earlier video but didn’t see anything guides on how those change how I need to think of my distances
This is a damn good video
It sure is, it clocks in at 9 minutes 41. It left me 19 seconds for laughing hard at my shotscope strokes gained & GIR stats.
Yeeaahhh, damn good show!
Came here to say this but you beat me to it.
@@rpasche I believe the Twins would approve!
This system works
Hit an 87 few days back
Thanks Matty, keep up the good work
Watched this the night before I went out and played a round with friends. Dropped the ego, left the driver in the bag, split shots < 230 yds out into two separate shots, played as if bogey was the goal, and broke 90 with an 88!
“Those shots are reserved for pros and assholes….dont be an asshole…” 😂 pure gold matty boom boom
Want to break 90, have to stop being an anus hole
There must be someone, somewhere, called Robert Sole. I wonder if he plays golf.
"...because you're not a pro." lol
Broke 100 on Saturday for the first time! Kept driver in the bag all but 2 times. Kept my ball in play and only lost 1 ball on the back 9! Thank you for all the course management tips I feel very confidential in my irons just need to get that way with my driver woods and hybrid

No short sided floppers over the bunker.

@@kitsu0099 There is a course round here cut out of forest. The club you use off the tee is dictated by the width of the hole and not the length. That is what I mean by getting the ball from the 1st tee to the house. Well done on 30 holes. It's nice to wear a ball out rather than lose it.
The free throw distáncès are one of the most valuable additions to my game. I’ll break 90 very soon. Been shooting under 95 the last 5 rounds.
You’re almost there legend
It’s the truth nothing sugar coated like your I like this approach
Played like shit on my last round cause my mental game still sucks BUT lost only 1 ball and three putted once on the whole 18. This stuff really works, can't wait when i get my head into the game, gonna break 100 for sure!
Another great video!!! Just got back from the course working on the short game. I had to swap the tee for a different colored ball due to a bad back years ago. And I just hit the ball without looking for my next round of distance control.
Broke 100 for the first time this weekend with your help, and now 89 is callin me
Very casually funny and so informative. Love your channel brah
The best UA-cam golf muppet hands down
I have found my 48 degree gap wedge works well as a 40 yd or less club. Using a putter swing. I dont even touch my 52 or 56 unless i need the height for going over small hill or sand.
The putter swing with gap wedge just seems to do a nice little chip and run. No real need for a pile of wedges on most public courses in the flat land known as Ohio.
Brilliant. That’s how you work your game into superiority
Fab channel 👍👍✌️
hi Matt @golfsidekick , can we see another video of rule of 12s in action
My favorite Muppet!! Video production is so good now that you can barely see the sticks moving the arms!
Yesterday I did it. A Real 89 (course rating 71,7 slope 137) NO Stableford, a REAL 89. Thank you Matt, wadda playa ❤...🎉
BAUS killing my dream of hitting the 7-iron of summer 2007 again
Matt , you’re the man. Keep cracking. 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻😊🇩🇪
Russ
This might be the best video you have ever done
Correct
broke 90 today with your magical wizardry guidance. Thank you very much. This guy knows the way of the PLAYA.
Excellent advice Matty…
Top tier advice
The very best
Great video - and it works on the course.
i've just come across your channel. Well said. I'm going to try this tactic tomorrow. Oh, i've just subscribed 👍
Brilliant, cause i get excited about pars like most people do with birdies!!!!
"Listen to this Muppet"... i love it 😂
Well said, great advice from The Golf Guru 😅😅😅
Solid advice .. ZERO BS ✅✅
Im actually gonna be listening to this video everytime im on the putting green warming up for a round 🔥🔥🔥
You just keep me watching 😂. Great video
superb advice as always
Oh I’m late to the sacred lecture! My fave
Love your videos ,confidentiality? Confidence?
Cheers Mathew I am off to have a meeting with a score of 90
Cheers
This week on my first hole I completely missed my tee shot on a 340y par 4, I hit my 4i 180 left under the trees. bad lie, fw bunker in front of me, branches hanging over. I used a punch shot and hit it front green with 40y left. a little chippy on the green, and made a 6feet put for par. playa style.😎
Do a whats in the bag video, you still got wrappers on some of those clubs back there
I watched this and broke 90. Took me 2 hours though. Hopefully the back 9 goes equally as well. I'll keep you updated.
Awesome Video Thank You!
Amazing help!
Awesome, well said Matty Boom Boom!
Hey Matt. Do you have a video where you discuss how many yards are lost depending on different lies and wind speeds/directions? I saw you mentioned L.E.W.D. in an earlier video but didn’t see anything guides on how those change how I need to think of my distances
I've stopped listening to all other muppets out there but this one😂
Very sound advice.
