As many middle aged golf nuts, I've watched many videos from different 'tubers'. But none IMHO really discuss course management - it's all about golf equipment or swing mechanics. When in fact what you show us is how to think about the course, see the opportunities and understand your best approach is the way to improve your score better. You've helped me think deeply and properly about my game and how to use my modest skills to improve my scores and enjoyment of golf. Thank you. Keep up the excellent content. And I tell all my friends to watch you.
These videos are golden. Your swing and feels will come and go. You need to make sure you’re adapting your strategy along the way, otherwise you’ll keep expecting yourself to do shot’s you simply can’t do. Eradicating unnecessary errors are the fastest way to get better at golf.
Excellent point. The irony is that when we take the hyper focus off of the golf swing mechanics, the more relaxed and effective our swing becomes. Thats what’s happening with my game. Fun times!
This strategy on par 3’s has given me more confidentiality and as result shaved a few strokes off my handi. If I keep my chips low can I get “clean’ ho. Thanks Baus
After seeing this video, my 60 degree wedge hasn't been in my bag. I chip/pitch now primarily with 56, 52, PW, 9, and 8 iron and my duffs have all but disappeared. (I will still occasionally duff a short side uphill chip.) But it's funny to watch the group of seniors I play with (55-80 plus years old) pull out their lob wedges and either teeth one across the green or sod one 3 feet. Probably one of the best things I've learned from Matty Boom Boom was to ditch the 60. Also - thanks to the number one Lithuanian golf youtuber, I've broken 100 using his methods from his "Break 100 150 yards or less" video and Break 90 170 yards or less." I probably watch both videos 3 or 4 times a week.
Nice one Matty BB ... I'm going to take an extra club because I've been having a lot of soya milk in my coffee and I ate too much tofu last night. High quality life advice. Bob Rotella would be proud.
Matty boom boom, could you a video on how to approach getting distracted, or playing after getting flustered, maybe emotions from outside of golf, weird interaction with someone then having to swing, idk stuff like that. If that sounds dumb, then nevermind lol.
Incredible Coach! After my 2 last rounds of 84 & 83, shaved almost 8 strokes on the same course, aiming towards the back of the green, 23 putts and my buddies laughed after dunking 2 chips and yelling NINJA!!! Oh and I had forgotten my drive at home...Confidential!
Matty, your channel is the best, most relevant one out there. Your delivery is low key and the content does not fill my head with stuff I cannot do. I've taken about ten shots off my handicap over the 18 months I have been subscribed and following your mantra. Thank you, golf is enjoyable now.
Most of the time, I don't worry about the score. I just play what I envision to be the best shots and take the bogeys and double bogeys, even triple bogeys as they come. This gives me many insights on what to do and not to do. Over time, my scores got better, my techniques got better. I also play more on Pitch & Putt courses to improve the short game. I feel the driving range is only good for warming up, correcting flaws and fine tuning. Then again, hitting off a mat is not realistic. No sure if any of you do the same thing.
Just followed this advice on a course where I usually shoot between 48 (best score) and 55. Just shot a 43 after watching this video. Played super safe and set up easy chips and putts for myself. Awesome video thank you❤
Hey playa, I stumbled on your channel a few months ago near start of the season. All your content on short game, planning a hole start to finish and understanding expectations for my level vs pga have all been spot on for me. Busted through 100, on the verge of breaking 90 most rounds and enjoying playing way more now that it isn’t just a smash contest and losing balls every hole. Thanks for the great content!
I absolutely love your videos. I like how you walk us through the holes and give us strategies. Strategies that are good for every handicap. Since starting to follow you I've now totally changed the way I practice and play. Keep them coming.
Where have you been hiding? I'm a 63 yrs. old 2nd season golfer I wish I would have found your videos 10 months ago instead of all the "Pro's" that preach and sell their amazing golf swing classes and clubs. Seeing what you've explained in this video alone has helped me to better understand what I need to do.
5:39 One thing I disagree with is not using the 60. 2x a week, practice chipping into a bucket in the backyard for 30 minutes after work, and I think the average bear can develop touch. It’s become my comfort club around the green! Same concept applies for reading like a putt- I just imagine my aim point is that bucket from the backyard and I’m golden. Thank you for your content, man! You have radically improved how I think and play the game. In my second year of golf now and I’m consistently shooting mid 80’s. I cannot thank you enough.
Just want to say I love your approach to golf. Playing it safe is a good mindset to have especially as a beginner. I implemented some of your tips today and hit more birdies and pars today than I normally do thanks!
Changed my game so much for the better, not hitting the ball better with longer clubs but I've learned I dont need to, place the ball better and play my good clubs more often from better position
If you struggle with long irons...take a 3 iron only to the range and learn to hit it. All the other irons will feel like wedges! In my youth I struggled to hit anything longer than a 7 iron. In my case I grabbed a 2 iron and hit it until I could draw or fade with it at will...now the longer irons are my favorite clubs. Try it.
Honestly this is the way golf is to be played …. Most people just want to rip the ball and see what happens… everyone should be studying every ol Matt has to say … he’s dropping knowledge

All of this is even more true where I live. Massive elevation change on a lot of holes . Missing the fairway or green leaves you crazy side hill chips/pitches , deep bluegrass rough and so on.

Great mental thought processes, More importantly where in the world is that gorgeous golf course. Rolling hills, stunning greenery and bright blue sky. Is it near the sea? Do you have an NHS level health programme. I feel the urge to move to warmth.
Your "easy chip" just about made me fall off my chair... I do love this approach and need to do it more. I usually think backwards form the green while at the tee, but have been focusing on distances to break up the hole, but not about the possible misses along the way! It should be a simple addition to my course management thinking, just a few more seconds might make a huge difference.
This approach of always planning, selecting shots, taking what the course presents keeps you engaged all the way through. Then golf is a true break away from everything else, good or not so good.
Being a confident putter is a shockingly good way to be a great putter. If you believe you'll make every single putt you will make more of them. It's crazy. I used to stand over the ball and do practice strokes over and over and I would consistently leave the ball short of the hole. Now I line it up, stand over the ball and visualize the ball doing exactly what I need it to do in order to go in. Then I hit my putt and rake in the dough.
