As an Evangelical: it's a great shame how many self-proclaimed Evangelicals don't hold to basic orthodoxy and are totally ignorant of Biblical doctrine.

Well tonight I just learned from this video I’m classified in the 6% as “evangelical”. This is news to me🤔🤔🤔 I did not realize first of all that I even fell in this category and did not realize second of all there are so few of us IN this category. Your videos are great😊 Keep postin’ em!
Ya...I kind of just floored w this. I was raised Catholic. Converted and born again recently and realized I’ve ALWAYS apparently been the %6...I’m kind of concerned I and ppl like myself, am the bar... But glad to have always been in this group. It anchors my knowing that I have always walked in my faith and it led me to the right place.
I'm definitely an Evangelical in my theology, but I'm disappointed with what has happened in the United States. It is painful to me that many now associate Evangelicals with Trump and prosperity gospel error. We need repentance and revival. The so-called Evangelical church has become weak, compromised, and in many ways no different from the world. I know many who are looking into Roman Catholicism and Orthodoxy because many are craving traditional moral values. If we do not address the hypocrisy, abuse, and unbiblical practices in the Evangelical church, it will continue to decline until we all become desperate for revival, refreshing, and reformation. Also, no other religion can lead to salvation. Evangelical means Gospel. How are we getting this wrong? We need to be reading in our Bibles and not be lead astray by false teachers. I sincerely love people of other religions and never would wish them harm. I do not believe at all that Christians should force or manipulate non-believers into becoming Christians. However, the Gospel is the only way to be saved and that is why it is paramount that we share this. Why else would God the Father send His Son to brutally die on the cross for our salvation if there was another way? I was an agnostic before becoming a Christian. There's absolutely no point in playing religion. Either we believe that God is telling us the truth or we make God a liar. There is no in-between. I tried to live a life in that in-between viewpoint. It does not work. God is commanding people everywhere to repent from sin and surrender their lives to Christ in faith. The whole point of the Gospel is salvation from sin. Until we truly see our sins and idols for what they are, hateful rebellion against God and acts of destruction, we will not understand the purpose of salvation and sanctification. Jesus loves us with the purest and most beautiful love in existence. Love tells us the truth and that can deeply offend us at first. It is only through the truth we can heal and be made new.
Very true indeed, my friend. We must be sincere, or we might as well go to a mosque, or a shrine, or a Satanic Temple 'church.' We need to truly believe and try to fulfill our duties as children of God. It can be very difficult sometimes, but we must try.
"Looking into Catholicism" is new to me as a lapsed Catholic. Church attendance has collapsed worldwide among Catholics, and at least one country (Honduras) is probably more correctly classified as Protestant rather than Catholic at this point. Brazil is probably not that far behind Honduras, either. On a personal note, I was the only Anglo in an apartment building full of Dominicans and was befuddled at how many were Pentecostalists or SDA. And while nothing has replaced Catholicism in Ireland I think you'd be hard-pressed to refer to the country (as one Pope did) as "most Catholic Ireland" at this point. Probably closer to being "most Atheist Ireland."
@@thelasthandbook6704 true. While I have my issues with Roman Catholicism, Ireland makes me deeply sad. It's tragic such an intrinsically Christian nation could go so far in such a short time.
Care for a radical answer? The gospel, according to Christ, Isn't about Christ, or salvation. It's about repentance, and the coming KINGDOM OF GOD. You have a bible don't you? Trinity doctrine, and Sunday keeping. I'm not surprised. Christianity is overdue for falling apart, or REAL reform. Worship in truth, is becoming non existent. Bless your heart.
I've always thought of Evangelicals as "come to church, and you'll hear the Gospel", as opposed to "here's the Gospel, once you believe, come to church."
Duality Of The Christian Zionest. Judaism prohibits the creation of idols, or any form of idolatry, even if they are used to worship the one God of Judaism. Christians worship Jesus Christ, not his nature, and therefore do not worship idolatry But still love to make statues of him and place them in front of churches like Hindu Gods. Jews believe in one God, which is central to the Jewish faith. This belief is called monotheism. Trintard (Pagan) Christians believe in one God, known as the Father. This divine Godhead consists of three parts: the father (God himself), the son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. Judaism has prohibited eating pork and pork products for thousands of years, along with Islam. Trintard Christians eat pork because God has declared it clean. 1 Timothy 4:3 says that pork is one of the foods God created for people to receive with thanksgiving. According to Jewish law, circumcision is a commandment from God that all male Jews and their slaves must perform on the eighth day of birth. The New Testament does not require Christians to be circumcised. Instead, Christians are encouraged to be "circumcised of the heart" by trusting in Jesus
Your taking it literally the wine was not very strong at the time and more safer to drink then water in no way shape or form did Christ tell us to get drunk
@@JakeLewis-qt5fn What do you mean by OP taking it literally? About the prohibition of alcohol or Jesus turning water into wine? Where did you get the idea that wine then was not very strong? Wine not being strong makes it.. not alcohol? Wine being safer to drink then in those times make it right and in our current time is not so the prohibition? Also, OP did not indicate that Jesus tells us to be drunk. I don't see the use of you saying that in your last sentence.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV
Yes, we are saved by The Grace of God first and foremost and not our own Grace. It is God's gift and doing works to try gaining salvation won't work. However it's clear all over the Bible that we are saved by Faith, repenting of our sins (can be directly to God, you don't need a priest). And upholding the 10 commandments. If you believe the Bible is 100% accurate then Mark 10:17-25 nkjv It comes straight from the literal mouth of God
Very true, it’s must be either God or Allah, not both. If you compare the Koran to the Bible, they are superficially similar but the core message or each is totally opposed. It’s is for us to decide for ourselves if we want grace by faith, or faith by works.
@@horehoundbasedcandy8736 The word, Allah, is simply the Arabic word for God - much like Dio (Italian) or 하나님 (Korean). Many Arabic speaking Christians also say Allah to refer to God. Arabic is not exclusively Islamic.

Traditional Protestantism like Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, etc. Evangelicalism is basically the more conservative and fundamentalist. Mainline Protestantism is associated with liberalism and progressivism.
It blows my mind people wouldn’t know the Mainline, really shows how times have changed! I believe like almost 40 of our 45 Presidents have been from Mainline denominations. I would argue outside of the South, it’s what most people picture when they hear “going to church.” For example, the Simpsons went to a church that was meant to be a combination of Lutheran, Presbyterian and Methodist to make it the most stereotypical middle class Protestant church.
@fighterofthenightman1057 Well, consider that the viewers of the channel come not only from the US (where the terms Mainline and Evangelical does mean things described in the video and in your comment) but also from, say, continental Europe, where these terms aren't used. So people might not be familiar with them unless they read the studies about the US religious landscape.
When I think of Evangelicals I usually think of the super religious nutters in de US who support Trump. I’m Anglican (I’m from the UK) so it was interesting to learn what evangelicalism really is.
Catholics believe salvation through works. They have hierarchy with priests up to the pope (who cannot marry and must remain celibate forever). They also pray to saints, Mary, and statues. Christians believe salvation through faith and God’s grace, accepting Jesus as their lord and savior. They only pray to God/Jesus/Holy Spirit
By the Barna criteria, this Catholic counts as one of the 6% 9-point Evangelicals. Not sure what to make of that. Maybe some of those criteria do not adequately reflect Evangelical belief. From what I have heard, one of the big questions within Evangelicalism today is, "What is Evangelicalism ?" Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones and John Stott (I think it was) had something of a difference of opinion over this question. If Evangelicals of their standing could not agree on the matter, I am not sure that the question will be answered any time soon. I think Evangelicalism is an *ethos*, an attitude, a way of doing things - something too subtle to be given unambiguous boundaries, like a triangle, or pinned down like a butterfly in a show-case; but recognisable when met. Perhaps there are degrees of being Evangelical.
It always was a slippery issue. I defined the term as "The intellectual heirs of Charles Finney". I suppose, though, it's probably best that we give the word a rest because it means a lot of different things nowadays. I use better terms to describe Evangelicals when I can like "Conservative Arminian Baptist" or "Holiness folks" or "non-denom Reformed Baptist" ect.
One thing that you missed to point out is that conservative Evangelicals teach that repentance from sin is essential part of the Gospel, and therefore genuine faith will be manifested in true repentance and spiritual regeneration (born-again) and will also be confirmed afterwards in life of progressive sanctification. It is not enough to say sorry for sins once at conversion so a person can be justified by Christ's atoning sacrifice, and afterwards continue living in willful sin. This belief that one is saved only by accepting Jesus as his savior is called Free Grace doctrine (maybe you should make a video about this).
I'm Catholic but came from a protestant tradition, the United Methodist Church. However, I'm a saved Catholic. I accepted Christ as my Savior and Lord and Christ is the ONLY way you can be saved, apart from works or the law. Even though I went through the RCIA, I vowed to myself that I would accept Catholic teaching only if it was compatible with God's word, the bible. I believe I was sent to my current church to pray for those in my parish and others, and my hope is that if some of them don't know Jesus Christ like they should, that they will. Accept him. He's the only one who can save you.
You should learn about the Didache, the Apostolic Fathers and the Church Fathers. Catholic doctrine is comprised of tradition AND scripture, not scripture alone. There was no biblical canon until 390 AD. Sola Scriptura is an heresy.
@poobread8885 oh I most definitely can. It's like if you don't accept what you're joining but feel like you obviously know better than the church fathers and actually just joined to turn people to your cause. It's like a wolf among sheep.
You do not seem to know the history of Christianity. Let me help you... The holy Catholic Church is the ONLY Church established by Christ. The Catholic Church gave us the Holy Bible which means only the Catholic Church interprets holy scripture. Protestants are in heresy as they (you) follow the heretic Martin Luther of the 16th century. Protestants reject Christ in the Eucharist. If you reject the Catholic Church then you reject Christ Himself. Jesus taught His real Presence in the Eucharist and He promised to guide His Church into all Truth. There are thousands of Protestant denominations all having their own interpretation of scripture. This chaos can only come from satan. Protestants are heretics . You cannot get to Heaven without Christ in the Eucharist. Protestants reject the Eucharist. There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church.
Sola Scriptura!---On the subject of "exclusivity" it is a teaching found in the Bible, John 3:16-21, 14:6 etc. Also, Acts 15 shows that the apostolic college was Evangelical. The Plymouth community, [1620], and the people of the Great Migration who came to New England, 1630 to 1644, which cast its mantle over America, were solidly Evangelical. At the time of America's founding seventy five percent of Americans looked at the world through Puritan/Evangelical eyes. The result? "“The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity.” [John Quincy Adams]
By the way some people use lower case evangelicals and capital Evangelicals to distinct new fundamental evangelicals and the Evangelicals came from Reformation Protestant traditions...
@@wendyleeconnelly2939 they also accused Him of casting out demons by the power of Satan, but we find the accusations of the mob were not always accurate
Yes that's what I find confusing about the german name for what we in dutch call de protestantse (protestant) kerk (church) In dutch evangelical is called (evangelicaal, evangelische gemeente) but nowdays they are more referenced to as (christen gemeente )christian fellowship, and also often but not allways do not hold pure evangelical vieuws and are more or less influenced by charismatic or pentecostal teachings.
Okay maybe not the right place to ask this, but here we go none the less I NEED to hear from one of these people so here we go. How does a new earth evangelical explain away the entire science of geology?
(Full disclosure - commented the same elsewhere) Fair enough. An Evangelical holds the Bible in highest regard, i.e., it is 'inerrant', but the way it is interpreted marks the difference between an Evangelical and a Fundamentalist. An Evangelical will believe in the Bible, but interpret it, perhaps, more liberally as narrative, or myth, or philosophy (at least in some areas). A Fundamentalist will interpret it LITERALLY and STRICTLY. That's the fundamental (no pun intended) difference between these two schools of thought. Curiously and commonly, Fundamentalists often hide under the guise of Evangelicals, without even realising they are the former.
What is the difference between Baptist and Evangelical belief. Also I visited a Baptist church and noticed that in their worship service they do not clap or raise their hands etc. Is that part of their beliefs?
Bob, A Baptist can be evangelical (like most Southern and Independent Baptists, as well as other groups like GARBC) or they can be more liberal/mainline (like many in the American Baptist Convention.) Baptists may look different from other groups that are also evangelical, such as Evangelical Methodists (which don't believe in eternal security) or Evangelical Presbyterians (Who are Calvinists) In the south particularly you will find more 'active' Baptists in worship, with hand raising, shouting Amen, clapping. There are fewer of these in the north. Some Baptists think it is sinful to clap in church, and many would view hand-raising as something that charismatics do. It's a little bit of the liturgy and traditionalism within baptist circles. The more new-evangelical Baptist churches (such as ones that use contemporary music) do not think this way, and they'll be open to hand raising and clapping nearly universally.
What is the source of Trinitarians? The mother harlot of false churches, the Catholic church. God is not a trinity. God is a family. Ephesians 3:15 For crying out Pete's sake, the holy spirit doesn't even have a name, while other disenfranchised by the trinity doctrine, immortal holy spirits do.

Our Church was founded by Lutheran missionaries but is considered Evangelical. & what you just explained is what our Church stands for, especially about being Born-Again. So I guess we are Evangelical despite our Lutheran origins.
what when you compared fundamentalists with evangelicals and mainline there were some eror when speaking of mainline ones. for example you sayed that mainline christians do not hold to scripture infalibility but they do most of them do
By the criteria here, neither Fundamentalists nor Evangelicals are Christians, or at least not very good Christians. E.g. Why doesn't Barna's list of characteristics of Evangelicals not include repentance from sin, but only confession of sin? Any Christian knows Jesus' words, "Repent or perish." Even worse, the reprobates confession of sin is nothing more than a non-confessing prayer chant, "I confess my sins." What sins?
That is where I will depart from evangelicals: Christian exclusivity. Did Jesus meant that he is alone is the way to the Father? For those who heard about Jesus and heard or listen to him or his disciples on His teachings and did not believe will not go to the Father. but those who have not known him or his teachings but does what Jesus' said is like personally hearing him and does what the says.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. NO ONE comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6). Would Jesus lie? No one means no one. If Christians do not share about the forgiveness and Lordship of Jesus, people will go to hell for their sins because no one offered them a chance at forgiveness. "14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear WITHOUT a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent?" Romans 10: 14-15. It's up to us Christians to share about Jesus and invite people to make Him Lord. That is our calling on this earth. We are the "sent ones." All who do not believe and no Him are already condemned. John 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does NOT believe IS condemned already, because he has NOT believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." We must Evangelize so people will believe.
Why 3 in 1 or trinity in christianity should exist? Why need the role of father of god, why need the spirit of god, and jesus? What father & spirit can do?😮
How did Christianity go from the religion of charity and good works, to the church of hate, bigotry and intolerance? With a growing propensity for violence?
Evangelicals I observe at close range may reference the Kingdom of God, but their attachment is to the earthly kingdom of man. The habit of placing faith and grace in between the action of following Christ's commandments is the avoidance of one's spiritual responsibility. Simply, they believe in self defense of their earthly bodies. They cannot turn the other cheek when defending their children. Therefore, could you expect them to sell everything they own of value and give the money to the poor? To love those that hate and despise them? They may be good people by earthly standards but the Kingdom of God does not have a place for full of faith but not enough faith to commit to full action.
I understand the theory of salvation by grace. Which could possibly be true. But the Bible says faith without works is dead. How can you have salvation without faith? To me thats definitely contradictory.
Read Romans Chapter 10. No one can be established (go to heaven) by their own righteousness (good works). That's what Israel tried to do, and they were NOT justified in God's sight. We must confess Jesus as Lord and Repent. Lordship implies submission to His Words, so yes, faith should have action. Any Christian with "faith" but no "action" is considered back-slidden and must repent. God might be showing them grace, but they are not allowing Jesus to be Lord (king) of their life. This submission begins with confession, and is enforced through action. "9 That if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou SHALT be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." (Romans 10:9-11)
The many self-identified "Evangelicals" who claimed that my father, an ordained American Baptist Association minister and who been the pastor of American Baptist churches in Philadelphia, PA, southern New Jersey and New Mexico, was not a Christian and was a follower of Satan because he was not an Evangelical has led me to despise Evangelicals and refer to them as CINOs (Christians In Name Only). An Evangelical pastor tried everything he could to shut down my father's Baptist church in Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico, to include frequently calling INS/ICE to raid my father's church for "sheltering illegal immigrants" (the majority of the congregation at my father's New Mexico church were Hispanic-Americans whose families had been American citizens for two or more generations).
All the stats that you gave about WHO believes WHAT indicates that nobody actually KNOWS anything for sure. That's the definition of faith. It's all in your mind unless you can show otherwise.
Good overview of what an evangelical is. I would be on the conservative end of the spectrum, dispensational in hermeneutic and Free Grace in soteriology. The distinction between conservative evangelicals and more moderate fundamentalists is practically non-existent and could be said to be the one and the same. Diehard IFB types would tend to view the moderates as compromisers who have crossed over into the 'neo-evangelical' camp and an addition to their very long separation lists of those they can't fellowship with.
@@jameswhitley4101 It is but us more conservative evangelicals simply can't buy into KJV Onlyism, the ridiculous degrees of separatism and outright extra-Biblical legalism that hardline fundamentalism tends to espouse.
How would you classify me? I consider scripture to inerrant, that is every word in the original text is there because God willed it to be, and is therefor true by definition. But I also realize that the bible is neither a history text nor a science text and should not be interpreted as such. In particular, I do not believe the earth was created in six literal days. What non-Christians disparagingly call "the story of Adam and Eve and the talking snake" is not a historical account, but its central message is quite true: humans have been defiant and have been separating themselves from God ever since humans have been human. Which means I am a sinner, and Jesus Christ is my Savior. How literal various Old Testament accounts are is an interesting question, but one's salvation does not depend on that. What is essential is knowing I am a sinner and Jesus Christ is my Savior, and acting accordingly to the extent God gives me the grace. Confronted with Jesus' question "...but who do you say I am", my answer is the same as Peter's: "You are the Christ, the son of the living God."
I think you're dead wrong about how the Bible should be interpreted but there are a lot of evangelicals including evangelical preachers who do not think the Genesis story was six literal days (they usually do still believe it's a literal creation account with a literal Adam and Eve though.) Ironically the book of the Bible evangelicals interpret most literally is Revelation, when I would argue that Revelation is the least literal book in the Bible. In terms of "what does that make you", it's impossible to answer that for you without more information about what you believe as there are many people accross almost all denominations who share the views you have stated.
The only thing you need to know is that Christ is not divided and a house divided against itself cannot stand! SO then ALL denominations are a house of cards
I would say are free Lutheran Church the aflc has to be more Evangelical and I would be more Evangelical I only go because that's where God sent me and that's why I got saved
Being a evangelical and being born again is 2 different things being a evangelical involves what knowledge u have scripture wise to be true but being born again is a child like emotional attachment of those truths from the heart. The Lord GOD only has 1 true church and none of them given a term or name by men are apart of the true church of The Lord Jesus Christ.

How is prohibition of drinking alcohol a biblical principle when Christ’s very first miracle was to turn water into wine?
Your taking it literally the wine was not very strong at the time and more safer to drink then water in no way shape or form did Christ tell us to get drunk
@@JakeLewis-qt5fn What do you mean by OP taking it literally? About the prohibition of alcohol or Jesus turning water into wine? Where did you get the idea that wine then was not very strong? What type of churches are mainline? I have never heard of that term. Thank you for the video!
Thank you!
Very informative video! I have a question though, how do catholic ideals differ from evangelical ideals?
Catholics believe salvation through works. They have hierarchy with priests up to the pope (who cannot marry and must remain celibate forever). They also pray to saints, Mary, and statues.
Christians believe salvation through faith and God’s grace, accepting Jesus as their lord and savior. They only pray to God/Jesus/Holy Spirit
Nice video, very informative

Is it possible to link to that barna research?
Have you found any teaching that you think is incompatible?
This seems wrong but I can't put my finger on why
He said standards of music.Could someone expound on that statement. Thank you.....

Fair enough.
How do y’all baptise?
What is the difference between Baptist and Evangelical belief. Also I visited a Baptist church and noticed that in their worship service they do not clap or raise their hands etc. Is that part of their beliefs?
Bob, A Baptist can be evangelical (like most Southern and Independent Baptists, as well as other groups like GARBC) or they can be more liberal/mainline (like many in the American Baptist Convention.) Baptists may look different from other groups that are also evangelical, such as Evangelical Methodists (which don't believe in eternal security) or Evangelical Presbyterians (Who are Calvinists)
In the south particularly you will find more 'active' Baptists in worship, with hand raising, shouting Amen, clapping.

By the criteria here, neither Fundamentalists nor Evangelicals are Christians, or at least not very good Christians. E.g. Why doesn't Barna's list of characteristics of Evangelicals not include repentance from sin, but only confession of sin? Any Christian knows Jesus' words, "Repent or perish."
Even worse, the reprobates confession of sin is nothing more than a non-confessing prayer chant, "I confess my sins." What sins?
Baptised Catholic but am evangelical
Jim Jones met all this criteria. Heavenly man.
He played Jesus.
I am evangelical and I didnt even know that there is mainline that dont follow the Christian basics xD
John 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does NOT believe IS condemned already, because he has NOT believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
We must Evangelize so people will believe.
Why 3 in 1 or trinity in christianity should exist? Why need the role of father of god, why need the spirit of god, and jesus?
What father & spirit can do?😮
I meet all 9 of the criteria points, so I guess that I am part of the 6%.
So you’re a SUPER evangelical? That’s SUPER evil
I must be a 100% evangelical. Only in the 6%. I was shocked by this.

All the stats that you gave about WHO believes WHAT indicates that nobody actually KNOWS anything for sure. That's the definition of faith. It's all in your mind unless you can show otherwise.
I'm an evangelical agnostic atheist. 😅
Im an Evangelical Roman Catholic.
I've always felt that the difference between fundamentalism and evangelicalism is more a matter of attitude than doctrine.
@@jameswhitley4101
It is but us more conservative evangelicals simply can't buy into KJV Onlyism, the ridiculous degrees of separatism and outright extra-Biblical legalism that hardline fundamentalism tends to espouse.
Don't you have anything else to do?
I think you're dead wrong about how the Bible should be interpreted but there are a lot of evangelicals including evangelical preachers who do not think the Genesis story was six literal days (they usually do still believe it's a literal creation account with a literal Adam and Eve though.)
Ironically the book of the Bible evangelicals interpret most literally is Revelation, when I would argue that Revelation is the least literal book in the Bible.
In terms of "what does that make you", it's impossible to answer that for you without more information about what you believe as there are many people accross almost all denominations who share the views you have stated.
If the talking snake hadn't been historical, the Balaam's donkey wouldn't have been historical either.
The only thing you need to know is that Christ is not divided and a house divided against itself cannot stand! SO then ALL denominations are a house of cards

If salvation is needed, that's my responsibility. My good works will be rewarded in the afterlife. That makes sense to me.
