The reason the Samurai’s chant is depressing is actually connected to the For Honor Lore. In the Lore, the Samurai never belonged in the land of Vikings and Knights, they were driven there when their old empire (Japan) was destroyed/sunk by the cataclysm (a apocalyptic event in FH, seen in the Apollyon trailer of the game, and the S1 cinematic) The Samurai went of in a mass Exodus that took them to the land of the Knights and Vikings, there they rebuilt their empire, living within the mast jungles and dense forests of the Myre-that stretches far to the east, where no Knight nor Viking will be found, only Samurai-however, because of the war with their neighbors, the Samurai face extinction and the utter extermination of their religion, their traditions, and their culture, that is why they fight to try and survive. They do not have the vast numbers of the Vikings, nor the power of the Knights, and being in constant war with each other, the Samurai are desperately trying to keep the Knights and Vikings off their lands-the land also helps as the Myre itself is a deathtrap to any army who does not know it. The only things the Samurai have advantage over the Knights and Vikings are Technology-during their exodus, they learned much from different nations where they advance their tech that far suppasses the Knights-and Skill (lore wise) Samurai warriors must have the skills that matches 100 enemies.

Exceptional fighters with incredible skills, theyre bassicly uber menschen if you know what that means. Tall, strong and bassicly made for battle. As you can probally tell while playing, you completely rip through the minnion lanes.
I actually love how the song represents how relentless and basically fearless Samurai were. Imagine going up against an enemy you KNEW wasn't afraid to die. And would nearly try anything to win. Scary thought.
It's less about being depressing and more about mocking the enemy for thinking their life had any value in the first place, I agree though, very sad sounding lyrics

I do a lot of martial arts, and typically we use Kiai to harden our core when we get struck, to prevent the wind getting knocked out of us. I feel like that would’ve been more useful way to implement into the game rather than stamina depletion

It makes more sense for her to become Empress since she has actually done a lot of good. Seijuro became Emperor because Apollyon said "Haha, wolf go brrrrrrrrrrrrr."

It’s also not just used in Japanese arts but also Chinese and I assume many others, the arts I do are Chinese. We use kiai as well, primarily actually to tighten our core muscles and prevent damage
