    I have a Zoom G5 so I am used to the switches and screens layout - and I think they are pretty intuitive to use - but I believe the color screen is redundant there, I think they just added it because everyone else has color screens. Looks like Zoom did not weighted well their priorities: 2 effects loop but no balanced output, 2 USB ports but obsolete sampling rate... The sounds on this G11, in my opinion, are way behind the new Mooer and Line 6 stuff anyway. The Zoom ones are usable, but they don't even sound similar to the real stuff!
    tl;dr - I would rather buy the Mooer GE300 and save 200 euros or spend additional 140 euros and buy the Line 6 Helix LT...
    By the way, awesome review as always Leo! Your multieffects reviews and comparisons are the most consistent, unbiased and helpful ones I found.

    I have a $50 Zoom G1 that sounds just as good as any modeler. Zoom needs to stay in the small/cheap market and not try to compete with the big/expensive market. I didn’t think the sounds on the real Vox sounded very crisp, so it’s hard to compare the Zoom against that. Looking forward to more comparisons, yours are the best.

    Hello Leo! Your channel is amazing! Congratulations! Dude... if the person is looking for equipment that acts as a pedalboard... with exchange of presets on stage... but is also looking for a better and more organic tone... with more organic effects and amp simulations... you would go for zoom g11 or from HX stomp xl if both cost me the same price ?

    My take:
    1. Most processors sound similar.
    2. Even after editing you'll likely find a factory preset that sounds like it.
    3. Even with all the capabilities you'll likely use a mere handful of sounds.
    4. I have units from 20 years ago that sound like this...but the interface on this unit has more lights on it.
    5. My older units are all but worthless. Keep that in mind.
    6. Zoom makes good products. I am happy with my $80 (bought new) multi-effects pedal.
    7. The price on the G11 is, frankly, too high. In another year or two it will be lower.
    8. I like the touch screen and ease of editing.

    Wait so zoom is saying these are IR’s? What would the difference in that compared to a stock cab in let’s say a line 6? Are they just captured a different way or did line 6 just use software to make their own from the ground up?

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Jose, actually in all the major pedalboards you can download your IRs. Zoom is preloading these slots with their specific IRs...doing something similar to HeadRush that gives you the possibilities to download some celestion IRs for free and to use them in the HR. You can do the same thing with Line 6. On the other hand all these pedalboards come also with their simulation of the cab, allowing you to change mic, distance, position and so on (each pedalboard offer different possibilities): here zoom gives you the possibility to choose between two mics (sm 57, md 421). Not going into tech details I would say that IRs are a specific photo of a mic and cab, that you cannot change, while with the internal pedalboard mic emulation, you can tipically change some parameters, like type of mics, distance and so on. So typically IRs sound better but are less flexible, while internal cab sound worser / you need to tweak them but are more flexible. Thank you for your message!

    • @JosePineda-jn8jk
      @JosePineda-jn8jk 4 роки тому

      Leo Gibson okay that makes sense and you described my thoughts in question very well so thank you. So these are true IR and thus less options but, further expandable if you buy more. On the other end is companies that do cab sims and give you all the options in the world and you can still dive into IR’s as long as you buy them yourself. This seems like a double edge sword where you’re more limited in options but maybe they sound more real in some contexts.

    They should have skipped one of the loops and installed XLR out instead. I can’t believe that in today’s market, floor modellers don’t have balanced outs as most of these will be used with a PA.

      That would have been nice, but you can always add an xlr adapter for about $20 if you are using the unit to play out. for the average bedroom musician the xlr is unnecessary.

    Thank you for the in depth review! I think it sounds a bit 'buzzy'. It feels like Pod Go has similar functionality, better sounds and it at a lower price point. There is a lack of reviews for this device as of yet but so far I'm not impressed. Personally I feel like I'd either go for Pod Go and save some money or spend a few extra bucks and go for Helix LT or Headrush Pedalboard.

    I enjoyed your review. However, in your PROS and CONS, you left out what I believe to be the biggest drawback of the G11. That being the fact that you're forced to use the touch screen to switch between the "performance" modes. You cannot select or toggle through them with your feet. For example, if you're standing up and performing, you'll have to stoop down and use the touch screen in order to access the "PLAY with LOOPER" mode. The performace modes (the functions highlighted in red on the touchscreen) are "PLAY by PATCH MEMORY", "PLAY by EFFECT BOARD", "PLAY by BANK", "PLAY with RHYTHM", PLAY with LOOPER" and "USE TUNER". Of all of those functions, only the tuner mode can be activated with your feet while performing... the rest would require you to awkwardly stoop down or bend over to access the touchscreen while performing. In my opinion, this is a huge oversight and a deal breaker for me personally. At first I thought I might be mistaken about this, so I contacted Zoom support to be sure. This is an exact quote of their response... "Unfortunately, you are correct in that you need to use the touch screen to change these functions".
    And while I'm on it, here's another deal breaker for me. While in the "PLAY by EFFECT BOARD" mode (this was known as Stomp Mode in previous Zoom pedals), you're still limited in the effect arrangement in the same manner as Zoom's previous offerings. What I mean by this is that you're forced to use two of the pedals in order to scroll back and forth though your entire effects chain in order have access to them. For example, If you set up a patch with a lengthy chain with say, a distortion near the front, and a delay at the rear, you'll have to scroll to go between them because you only have 5 available at any one time. In my opinion, the G11 should have been designed to allow the assigning of any effect in your chain, to whichever of the 5 positions you choose, in whatever order you choose to do it, completely independent of the actual chain order. Think about how elegantly the Headrush allows you to assign the effects in your chain to different foot switches based on your preference. Zoom could have done this too with a little bit more forethought. Oh well, enough of my ranting. Peace.

    I dont know what they were thinking, the switches interface seems like on the G5n which to me doesnt seem very good and just a single stereo output that isnt even balanced, competitors have two separate stereo outputs, ususally one balanced. Good to have a wireless editing solution, but having to buy/use a dongle that could break off in use is poor design and if it is as inexpensive as 30 dollars it should be both better and cheaper to have it built in. It looks like a toy with that design which i guess is plastic (the top) considering both the look and light weight for the size.
    Zoom has made some good stuff and the sound is probably ok, but this unit doesnt seem well though out and the pricing seems high.

    I used zoom g5n a lot, sounds the same but there are no IR cabs. So i used it with external ir pedal and it sounds way better then internal cab sim. But there are plastic feel, not tube-like.
    And it sounds waaay more plastic then mooer ge labs and kemper.
    It sounds not as real as concurrents nowadays in terms of amps and drive pedals but have much fun with sfx and modulation sound.
    So zoom need to improve their algorithms of amp modeling and then go to 250$+ price level.
    Comparison with vox and marshall shows that zoom sounds not as good as mooer, helix and boss gt1000

      Hi, thank you for sharing your opinions and experience... I'm receiving a lot of comments about the other Zoom pedalboards and the GT100...Maybe I will get some of these units to make some comparisons. Thank you once more!

    Yeah this a major fail for zoom, way overpriced. Line 6 pod go is miles ahead of this in sound and functionality.

    i have Zoom G5n, and that's a reason i watch it for. and i can tell,, between G11, the machine and features are not really far, not much upgrades i find here. the G11's team just add the touchsreen, +1 footswitch. no XLR out ?? jeez.. it's way overprized. better i go buying GT1000 of Boss

    zoom should redo their multi effects pedal design because this is just hideous.. i liked better their old multi pedals like the zoom 1010 and zoom 2020 (it had the 80s look) and even the 8080 (looking straight out like a 90s character) , but this one is ugly, if you want to look like the 80s at least try harder.. if zoom really wants to look retro they could go for a 1950's-60's household appliance look, or better yet a steampunk looking multi pedal.. in that part it would at least make them aesthetically unique than other multi pedals.. i think the best contribution of zoom to the gadget world was the 505 and 707.. i think zoom should stick to that if they want to be relevant.. in the multi effects board, they got line6, boss and now mooer for competition,they wont survive long if their competition gives the consumers better choices than they are offering...
