    Thank you for the excellent comparison Leo. This makes confirms a few things for me: 1. No matter what Zoom does, most people will never be happy or satisfied. 2. IR loading or capabality is what is on the menu now and forever until AI modeling and Cabs come out. 3. I LOVE the innovation that Zoom does with the Multilayer IR - a different approach and an perfect alternative for those who have had enough with playing with computers, menus and dozens of dozens of options. More playing, less fiddling with pedals and computers for me.

    I really appreciate that you include the latency in the description and comparisons. Very often it's the hardest spec to find about a unit (manufacturers frequently don't mention it, barely anyone measures it in reviews, and Google needs a LOT of convincing that "latency" and "delay" are not synonyms smh). Running a wireless setup, through a modeler, and into a DAW, it really stacks up, and every millisecond counts!
    I've been using a G1Xon for a really long time, and although it suffers from electronic fizziness in the top end (which can be fixed with a careful application of EQ), it's been serving me well, but it looks like I might break brand loyalty and go with the NUX when I upgrade. Not just due to the latency - the bigger number of effects slots and the inclusion of bass cabs (I have a "normal" guitar and a bass VI) make it a no brainer.
    Thank you for your thorough reviews!

    Hurray for Leo and A.I. Leo working together. This was a great use of technology.
    Honestly, both of them sound good. The lack of midi is a bit of a deal breaker. I'd go with the mg400, mostly for the screen, but if the zoom was a lot cheaper, I'd have no problem with it.

    Great review.
    The Nux wins here - I really don't know what the Zoom design and marketing teams were thinking or expecting......
    But for me the big win is any of these new generation modellers at this price point: Helix, Fractal, Kemper and Quad Cortex need to take note (especially as the £1,600 cortex STILL does not have an app or editor for pc ).

      If you consider this is a G2 and compare it to previous Zoom G2 pedals then it is an amazing upgrade, but comparing it to other products with price/performance/features in mind then that maybe is where Zoom makes a big mistake.

    • @Robertoilo
      @Robertoilo 11 місяців тому

      Maybe tradition is the answer. The Boss ME 80 seems like a dinosaur to me today, but it remains one of the best-selling pedalboards even with prices that are much more up-to-date than its design. But this is common in the guitar world. Just note that this environment is the only one where digital's main goal is to get closer to analogue (which continues to be the reference), instead of bringing things that would have been impossible in the analogue era, as happens in other areas.

    Leo, as you wisely pointed out, in order for the limitations of the Zoom to be seen as acceptable, it would require a sound quality that easily outclassed its rivals in this price class. If all it's doing is matching them tone-wise, I don't think that the USB option is enough to have many choose this unit when its limitations (no IRs, no mics, 1992 graphics) after a month of use will become so apparent and frustrating to live with. A year from now there's going to be a ton of these on Reverb from owners whose honeymoon period ended quickly.

      My 22 year old Zoom PS02 sounded better than the NUX. It's a recording device with full multi effect unit built in with DNR. I use it regularly for silent practice and writing. It's bulletproof. If I can copy over my settings from the PS02 over to the G2, as a rhythm player, it's worth the price of admission.

    wow - i really enjoyed the demo song - rippin solo too !! as always great video , wonderful job of fairly comparing these exciting devices . its a tough call for me as i am a fan of the zoom stuff , my wife has a b1 , b2 , i own a g1on and a g3 , but i also have a nux mg300 and an mg30 .i would agree on the 400 . i would be curious though is the zoom really pulling 500 mah or is that just what the power supply is rated for . like the mg30 is rated at 500mah but it pulls 400 . just a thought . i really like it when a multi can run on just a usb as well . more recently i used the zoom effects manager 2 to remove all the amp sims except the ms1959 and the fender combo , then i filled the rest of the fw memory up with all effects , including about 40 that did not ship with the unit - this is the joy of this amazing software . i made and entire set of new presets , and i will be trying to run the zoom in the effects loop of the mg30 , merging the units to obtain the best of both worlds . i have to see how that works out , but it should be interesting , my only concern is double latency . in the past i have used a mooer ocean machine , running this in stereo paired after the mg30 to enhance the effects capability's . using the tap tempo controller and a wet dry wet rig with an all analog signal path on the dry side , it did sound impressive . i tried using less gain on the dry amp and it really did make me smile , but its also a lot more to lug around and set up .ultimately i did that for one year , the next year i told my wife i am going back to just running one effector thru the pa , she was like smiling . its nice to have options , i think you know exactly what i mean by this , leo . now i want a cyborg version of myself to leave comments on these videos for me while i play guitar !

    The reason the screen is so bad on the zoom is because the device can be bus powered which is huge. It is the only bus powered modeler out there i think. No batteries or outlets. Just connect to my tablet or phone. And I prefer not messing with IRs.

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  Рік тому +1

      Hi, thank you for sharing!
      You maybe right, but let me say that if it was the reason why, it's kind of strange that the NUX MG 400 actually needs less power compared to the G2x. In fact, if you watch my video comparison of the NUX MG 400 vs the Zoom G2x four, you can notice that the MG 400 needs 9V at 280 milli Amperes, where the G2x Four needs 9V at 500 milli amperes. Therefore, the Zoom requires more power than the NUX. I think that you can go bus powered even with a colour screen.
      Nevertheless, it's an interesting discussion thank you!

    • @dheranYT
      @dheranYT Рік тому +1

      I guess that Zoom states the 500 mA info based on their power supplies. Zoom doesn't offer a psu below 500 mA. I'm quite sure that the current draw is below 200 mA.

    Hi, I'm looking for a multi-effects pedal with an integrated looper that allows me to make my loops by changing presets (clean, distortion) for my overdubs with the addition of bass sound in overdub, and all this during the looper section , I have to be able to switch from a preset with clean sound to a preset with saturated, and vice versa, which of these 2 pedals best meets my needs?

    • @jkbck1

      I second that question. If this zoom effect has a similar looper solution as my Zoom g3n then it will be unusable for you, because the looper and the drum machine are just like any other effects attached to particular patches.

    schermo a colori ...ci avete scritto un poema...ma è il suono che conta!!.... lnnanzitutto secondo me lo zoom suona molto meglio,bellissma la dinamica dovuta dalle ir,quando l'ho provato non ci credevo!! Poi cosa importante è che con lo zoom puoi avere 3 preset richiamabili cosa che in nux non hai e che per un utilizzo live è una caratteristiche imprescindibile per suonare , aggiungiamoci il prezzo( ora si trova nuovo abbondantemente sotto i 200 euro)e dello schermo direi che ce ne possiamo pure fregare.Oltretutto l'applicazione per editare su smartphone o tablet coata 80 centesimi !!! Mortificare un gioiellino che suona bene(molto megliodi macchine piu costose)lo trovo assurdo.Per me ha molto meno senso spendere 200 e passa euro per una pedaliera che non posso farci un bank con almeno 3 preset,dal vivo non la puoi usare se.fai canzoni in cui ti servono piu di 2 suoni e questa secondo me è una mancanza ben piu grave che non avere uno schermo a colori!!!

    Hard pass on black and white screen. That's a deal breaker right there. It's the 21st century and you're still using monochrome screens?

      Yeah, its time to leave this ancient type of display behind.

      Also for me the black and white screen is a pity...

      Sometimes i think about, if normal screens are a deal breaker to people that are expecting touch screens, do guitarist even expect touch screens in pedals nowadays?

    • @Stefan-
      @Stefan- Рік тому

      @@chelososamusic Color screens are pretty much the norm for multieffect pedals these days and i really doubt that the old monochorme displays are even cheaper anymore since color screens are so common. Touch screens are getting more and more common, we have the Boss GX-100, Headrush pedals and the Zoom G11 for example and i would be surpriced if they wouldnt get more common in the following years. Regarding my earlier post i was mostly commenting on the later part of the original post, monochrome display isnt an absolute deal breaker but i think its time to stop using them in these kind of products at least, for simple technical devices where no one cares about the look they may be fine still.

    I've tried the Zoom G2/B2 series
    The amp/cab models are a disappointment
    I prefer the G1/B1 over the G2/B2
    I own the B1-Four for bass, i is excellent
    I just bought the MG-400, it is far better than the G2-Four
    The Zoom products do NOT have the processing power to handle cpu heavy fx
    Most Zoom FX will cause a buffer overrun and max out the chain
    Poor design with the Zoom units, even the G6/B6 runs out of power
    MG400 all the way
    Even better, the MG-40 will slay them all
