Just an update!! I tried uploading IRs via the guitar lab but ..no joy. I only managed to upload IRs via USB stick at the back of the unit. ✌❤

Hopefully mine arrives tomorrow. I'm going to get some Sugru and build a circular wall around the volume knob on back so it doesn't get broken off. Also looking for an SKB-ish case I can leave it in for gigs (As Jon metntions, being plastic it's a bit fragile) Just pop the top off and go. I'll repost results. Best Regards!

Jon: I just spent about 2hours with this G11 In Tom Lee in HK. It was running into a Mesa head into the effects loop, just through the power section and then into a Mesa 4x12. I must say I was BLOWN AWAY with how HUGE this thing sounded. While I found the G11 to suffer from the same lousy preset disease that most all of these MFX units suffer from, there were indeed a few gems among the presets. So funny how the layout of the physical knobs and pedal section of the thing resembles a typical pedalboard. It does work well for quick knob turning adjustments.
One of the best parts is indeed the touch screen navigation. Zoom absolutely nailed the GUI.
All in all, a very impressive sounding device after a 2 hour run through of the presets.
And yes...pretty much any MFX would sound HUGE going through that Mesa half stack :D

Great review Jon! I love all your videos. My opinion on this is that the Zoom G11 is far too expensive for what it is. That said I hope people love it if that's what they're looking for. In this day and age it's hard to go wrong with any modeler that you choose which is a very nice thing indeed. Thanks for the video keep em comin and I'll keep watchin! Have a good one.

Oh boy, it looks like the consoles in the Enterprise/Startrek. Till i will have understood where to find my sweetspots in the options, the board will be "old fashioned" like me. Pretty good playthrough, did enjoy your "ready to play face"! Thanks for demoing - stay safe and eat healthy. ☮️

It’s a fantastic looking machine Jon. I’ve had a few zoom pedals along the way and they all had a high gain fizz. Im hoping it might change on this one. Hi Jonathan, I have the previous Zoom stuff, and my guess is did you try to switch the Mic knob on in the cab section, I noticed in your video is not. That knob makes a world of difference. If it's off is just like direct sound to a real speaker or IR less..
yes i know...it just didnt sound right to me. But I need to play with this unit a little bit more!!!😝

Great demo! the interface looks like a huge improvement over the G5n, but from your experience with the G5n (saw your review) would you say there is a noticiable improvement in sound/tone?
For some efx...the quality has improved. I just thought the Cab emulations could be better...maybe with the next update!

very professional and expressive playing as always! I really like your songs! I own this unit and really enjoy the sounds and the handling. The use of some plastic parts for the housing does not bother me at all, since the unit nevertheless is very sturdy. I have a very old gfx 8 and it still works pretty well.
44 khz is okay for me. I do not think that this really makes a big difference. Regarding the touchscreen and the outputs I think they could have done better.
What I really like about the G11 is the carbon like surface and the LEDs (I'm a big fan of the 80s), the sounds of the new amps and effects and the combination of the touchscreen and the 5 effect modules. For my taste the lights beneath the effect modules are a bit to bright, especially at night, so I would really appreciate the possibility to dim them. Unfortunately the guitar lab 6 app for ios or android is not available yet. The firmware updates work very straightforward by just connecting the unit via USB to a PC or Mac and opening the zoom software.

I ve the Zoom G5n and i love it it's a very good product for the price , the G11 is certainly better and more beautyfull but too expensive for me .

Zoom was reasonable price product but good quality now they changed image a painfully price with high quality sound..(:
This unit has many LEDs, but none for the lower switches, a great disadvantage when playing in bank mode; since it is quite uncomfortable to first reference on the screen and then go to find a specific switch to make the preset change.

My take:
1. Most processors sound similar.
2. Even after editing you'll likely find a factory preset that sounds like it.
3. Even with all the capabilities you'll likely use a mere handful of sounds.
4. I have units from 20 years ago that sound like this...but the interface on this unit has more lights on it.
5. My older units are all but worthless. Keep that in mind.
6. Zoom makes good products. I am happy with my $80 (bought new) multi-effects pedal.
7. The price on the G11 is, frankly, too high. In another year or two it will be lower.
8. I like the touch screen and ease of editing.

Question please In this video and alot of others this unit sounds as good as pod go vids ive seen,, i wanted a pod go but stumbled across this unit and i really like it, the reverb and ither effects sound so good to my ear,,, i want to get his iver the pod go, do you think that is a mistake? Is the helix series that much better as far as sound? Or only slightly, i listened to he end of the video and have heard your opinion but would you say the helix/pod go etc is on anothr level as far as sound or can you tweak the zoom to sound almost exactly as good? Every video ive heard zoom g11 soubds amazing so just curious if its just to my ear, thanks!!
In my humble opinion ..you should not judge by how these units sound in every videos. Decide on the usability and built. I find the G11a bit too light for stage use. Hope this helps...also check out the new NUX MG-30 ua-cam.com/video/68huGgKtink/v-deo.html

Yes you can hook it up to your daw with your interface or directly thru usb.. can’t do the video as the unit has been returned to the store✌️❤️

Good overview. Thanks. I have a Zoom G5n. I really like the way the amp section on the G11 is separate now and has its own dedicated controls. The touch screen for editing is elegant, but I'm pretty used to the G5n approach for editing now, and for that elegance, you tend to never use it after you have your patch sounding the way you want. So at 3 times the price of the G5n, I'm not sure it is worth the upgrade. As it is, I only use a fraction of the G5n effects and never any of their canned patches. I would be interested in how you feel the quality of the sounds (amps and effects) are compared to the G5n. I'm assuming they are pretty much the same, since the same Guitar Lab sw will be used to upload updates. Can you comment on that?

@@JonIsJustTooLoud Surprising, but good to know. One final thought - I know the G5n has an option to turn on/off mic simulation. "On" seems to improve sound for direct recording into a computer via USB, but "Off" seems to be better for live amp sound. Assuming the G11 has the same feature, you might double check the setting to see if that improves your impression of the G11. It would be interesting to do a YT episode with side but side comparison of the 2 units using the same effects. Love your playing. Cheers!

You said it! I too have the G5n and use it regularly for live church performance. I don't want to upgrade to G11 now. G11 is a beautiful but still no XLR out or real power cable, and true the effect choices and sound are about the same as the G5n.

Great demo as always! Is it just me or does the Zoom G11 sound a little harsh and gritty compared to other modellers. Like the Fender model on 7:15 min for example. Boss GT1000 and even the NUX MG-30 seems warmer, less compressed sounding.
It's probably because the mic was not turned on in the cab sim section

All-in-one rig with 'what you see is what you get' interface. This is what I looking for. Should I sell all of my pedals, Sir? Or do you still recommend me to keep pedals which are better on analog ones? Like Preamp, boost, overdrive/distortion.

Very good video. I am intrigued by this unit, but know nothing about Zoom as a company. I recently purchased a Helix HX Effects board and am getting along well with it. I bought it as I really want to get out of the individual pedal game. I have already started to sell a few on Reverb.
I'll put you on the spot here: You are a Line6 guy and do you like this Zoom unit better than what I have or the PodGo? I get mixed reaction on the G11 from you at the end of the demonstration. Sweetwater says they will not be getting this unit in for a "Few Months" and I have another 5 months on the return window for my Helix HX Effects, so there appears to be a while before I need to decide. Thanks for sharing.
Mark....why didnt you get the Podgo? I'll tell you the truth, The G11 has potential but i'll need more time with it to come to a solid conclusion.✌🤓
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Both Sweetwater and Guitar Center both have the PodGo on back order. The HX Effects was available immediately and there is a 180 day return policy on it because of the Covid deal. I wanted to at least try it out figuring I could always order the Podgo later when they start arriving and return the HX. I am beginning to think that is what I will do. Thanks for the response and always remember that I was in the top 600 for your subscribers!

I've asked this same question on your video about the G5N .
I want to know when using this through PC as an interface does the G11 work as an active sound card driver ? . Like if I'm programming sounds from other vsts in my Daw will the G11 process those sounds with its own sound card or will I need to rely on the sound card of my pc ? . This same question applies to the G5N . Excellent review I love your videos ! .
Hi Luke.. I have not tried plugging this directly in to the computer especially a PC. It should work as a sound card I Guess.✌️❤️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Just for input. On a Mac it shows up in the Daw as an input. I record directly from USB in to the Daw... but the monitoring comes from the Focusrite interface and the recorded parts ended up out of sync... just need a slight move with the mouse :)

Some of the older BOSS stuff like the ME-50 and ME-70 have aged really really well and should be fairly cheap on the pre-owned market.
Obviously they are no where near as good as some of the newer units that have all the fancy modelling stuff as they lack the technological advancements of the last 10 years or so but I know a few people that still use them for home recording on a budget and they sound pretty good despite their age.
These things were absolutely built like tanks. compared to most of the competition at that time.

IMO, first.. the price is way too high for its capabilities. i better buy zoom G5n which has close features and specs to G11, just LCD screen upgraded + 1 stomp.
second, on Sweetwater website, it sells at $ 800. for such price i choose POD 500HD which way better at sounding and cheaper.

You are supposed to have the mic turned on on the cab emulator. This is why the cab sims sound bad
I know... I did not have it on for my clean patch as it did not sound nice. I had the cab sim turned on, on my dirty patch though. In any case, I’ve managed to get the IRs to work. Played this unit in a church worship recording abs it sounded great✌️❤️
What's up with the sound? ohhh I see now... you don't have the mic on the cabinet emulation switched on... And sometimes you don't have the cabinet emulation on at all... Ouch it hurts... At least up until minute 7
I did have the Cab emulation on..just not the mic. ✌❤

Interesting review,, the sounds are still the same old crappy Zoom sounds,, I also dont like the carbon fibre plastic look! Seems like it weights very little by the way your holding it so once again,,, low quality and not worth what they are askling for this unit.
