First of all we will share a demo song hearing the two units in action, then we will compare the features and technical characteristics of the two units with a very detailed comparison chart, then we will ear more sounds, and finally I will give you my 2 cents. Really appreciate your excellent review. I've had a Line6 POD HD500x like the one the great Steve Howe used in the last YES tour and it's a fabulous unit but I've been captivated by the idea of being able to sample all my analogue effects and all kinds of amps and carry them all around in the one unit which is something these units, the Kemper and Fractal options out there do. The biggest bane for most players out there is going to be wanting to play with something right now instead of having to wait for the expensive units(we all know the story, we save up for that ultimate unit at the time, the time comes and then there's something even better on the market by the time you get there and you don't want an obsolete product.) So units like the Zoom G11 and Line 6 Helix Lt provide a pathway that's easier to achieve and you can be playing with this great IR technology etc RIGHT NOW while you save for the ultimate down the track. When I heard these 2 units in this demo, I have to say while of course the original actual amp and FX pedal was unsurprisingly the ultimate, the Zoom and the Line6 both had decent modelling of the original. To my ears, I found the Zoom G11 actually sounded better. In terms of effects, well the Zoom had more and do you actually need 65 amps if you only ever really require to 10? So the 22 amps is probably going to be more than you'll ever need anyway. Considering I've seen the Zoom G11 for less than half the price of the Line 6, I'd argue you get way more bang for your buck than the Line6 HLT in this case. A new name in town is the Moore units which also may be a possibility at this price point. To be fair, I've always had a soft spot for Zoom as it was my first multi-effects units which my brother is still using to this day. I also loved there Z pedal which gave you the standard Wah up and down, but also incorporated different tone adjustments with the side to side feature as well. Very innovative. Also the mutli-fx 50 stompboxes are amazing, incorporating 150+ pedals in one pedal is superb and best of all even those who normally run away from multi-effects are finally finding them very easy to use, adjust and most of all enjoy. Zoom get's the dive in and play area of the guitar community but it's backed with great quality. For the money, unless your going to stick with a single manufacturer, the Zoom G11 looks like a winner here. My only problem, well Fractal FX are bringing units like the FM3 into town and best of all, finally getting the prices into a more competitive price point. Looks like you could obtain a Fractal FM3 for example for cheaper than a Line6 Helix lt here, so that will certainly stir the pot. Perhaps a comparison between these units or even simply an add on demo of the pieces you played but with a Fractal FM3 to allow further comparison would be nice and I'm sure greatly appreciated by the guitar community. Great video as always! Normally at the mid and upper range multi-effects there’s nothing has an onboard drum machine, nothing more than a basic looper, but the G11 has them both, which could be quite useful to some of us, like when we’re inspired by a tone, we come up with some cool riffs or licks, then we can just start record our ideas right away on the same device and not to having it plugged in to our interfaces or other pedals, on the other hand, sometimes we just come up with some cool stuff when playing with a drum track… so i think the G11 could be very creative as well.

I have little problem with Helix LT. I connect Helix Like USB Interface and play with backing track from YT. I have to turn down backing track volume to 20-30% because Guitar volume is very low. Its normal or is any way to fix IT?

What I noticed with headphones is that the real jcm had more clarity/presence with a noticeable amount of hum. Sounded like I was n the room.
The Helix had less of that clarity/presence and less hum. Didn’t feel in the room but standing outside the room door, if you will.
The G11 was even less clarity/presence and less hum. Definitely felt like I was outside the room of where the amp was, if that makes sense.
I’m sure in person is different than headphones.

Awesome comparison... fm3 is really better than all in my opinion but just really wish if it had more foot switches only...but recently i found overloud thu ios have a rigplayer,which is another form of capture the entire rig like mooer mnrs technology n it beats for the tone..u may chk that out if possible..😊

Both sound very good. The biggest thing I noticed is that the ZOOM sounded a bit more compressed and less "open" compared to the HELIX - which back to back made it sound a little bit more like an "effect" than the HELIX - the HELIX compared very, very well to the real amp IMO - BUT the ZOOM has a nice hands-on interface, drum machine and looper for practice/writing and the price is much more attractive. If you weren't hearing these back to back, you wouldn't know what you are missing with the ZOOM .

This is a great comparison and is giving me a lot to think about Capability to load more than one amp and parallel effects in the LT is important to me, however, the balanced out of the G11 and touch screen may be equally important. I think I too would settle for a G300 and wait for the next newer updated versions of all the current units out there.

Great video! Do you think the helix lt even though it was released some time ago would be a more advantageous purchase than buying the more up-to-date g11 zoom?
Everyone says helix has the best effects... modulations... and better IR's even though it's older.
So I'm in doubt between the Helix lt or the zoom g11 or the HX stomp xl... Could you give me an opinion please? It would help me a lot!
Hi Daniel, it's pretty hard to give a definitive answer. It depends on your needs and your taste...Between the line 6 and the zoom I don't see a difference in terms of newer or older unit...the Quad Cortex is really a new unit, with modern features like the 7" touch screen, but among the zoom and the line 6 I don't see a technological gap. As regards IR, typically you are gonna use 3rd party IRs, so also here I don't see a specific difference. As regards effects, well it really depends on what you like...I'm more on the Boss or Fractal side as regards effects, as I'm much more used to their effects. Nevertheless I thing I would be happy even with the effects of the Zoom or the Line 6. Finally, if I had to choose, now I think I would get the Line 6 as I think they are holding their value better than the Zoom.

These 2 units sound very close to capturing the Marshall sound. Price and size are the biggest factors for me. If I only had these 2 to choose from, Helix for home and recording use,. Zoom may be better for road use due to size and weight, but I don't know how durable it is. Axe FX is the leader of the pack, as you mentioned. Thanks for another great and detailed analysis and another great song.

Hi Leo and all! I just got my G11 and have not been able to connect unit to register with Zoom Guitar Lab using windows and Type C connection.Any idea what i'm doing wrong??
Hi, I use a Mac so I'm not sure. Here some suggestions: did you download the drivers? do you computer support usb c?

Hello! So zoom had another firmware update and now am able to connect to PC.
But as much as I am enjoying, I am going to return for a mooer. Heavily leaning towards the Ge300 (Great upload on those units Leo), but I want to check the 250 again.

Great comparo as usual, we are so unfair to you and always expect the best impartial stuff from you every time 🤣. Would request you to also include a section on quality of effects for such multifx units. That is a pretty important consideration as many of us use such devices in the amp fx loop. Verdict on the Quality of 5-6 prominent amp and cabinet sim will also add further value to such comparisons. Sometimes value is not just an algebraic sum of features but the quality of it too. There is huge difference in the verb, delay, mod, od effects between helix and zoom who are both pioneers in guitar effects in their own price points, hope I am making sense. Thanks again.
Hi, thank you! Your suggestion totally make sense. I'm a little bit reluctant in doing such comparisons...with amp models we have the reference amp, that is the real amp...with effects it's much more difficult to find a reference...if not impossible...and typically we also have many different variances of the same effect in the same unit...for instance spring reverb, hall reverb, plate reverb...so the risk is to get lost or to give really biased opinions. I will think about it...thank you for your suggestion!

Another great video Leo. I too was actually surprised how close the G11 sounded to the Helix. One of the strengths of the G11 is its ability to load 3rd Party IR’s, a featured not found on their other pedals.

And helix and g11 sounds very close to each other but not as reach as real marshall

@@LeoGibsonGtr i mean input level of G11 can be boosted to match the gain of real marshall with 50% gain.
But in my zoom g5n i found that lowering input level (40%) and using boost between amp and cab(with boost=35 and tone = 60) gives sound more like real amp. But needed to raise the gain in amp
G5n and G11 amps sounds the same, difference is IR cabs in g11
with the same setting, i have à high gain sound!!!!!

Hi, my opinion is in "my 2 cents" section of the video at 10:38. I would not take any of he two...instead of the G11 I would take the Mooer GE 300 and instead of the Helix I would take the FM3.

The real deal has much more harmonic richness and "grind" than the models. The G11 sounded very similar if not identical to the Helix, especially in a mix. Both modelers have usable tones and sound good in a mix. The real deal still is the winner in this comparison. The demo song was fantastic as usual. Hi ;)....On the Marshall amp comparison, Zoom sounds much better, the line 6 sounded really bad to me actually. Regarding the Zoom outputs, are you sure they are unbalanced outputs? They don t mention if it is balanced or unbalanced on their webpage, but just because they are not XLR outs doesn t mean they are unbalanced.....I find it hard to believe they did this unit with unbalanced outs...These would be really bad. Thanks for the demo Leo....Very nice:) I quite liked the zoom actually ;)
Hi, as regards the G11 out, in the user manual there is written "Standard mono phone jack", therefore they are unbalanced. If they were balanced they should have been TRS jacks (which are stereo).

You are welcome. Yes, basically balanced cable can be with XLR jacks or TRS jacks, which are stereo jacks. If the jack is mono, it is for sure unbalanced.

It s weird we use for example on audio interface, a stereo cable to send a mono signal, because L/R are mono outs....So we should have a Mono balanced cable. Why using a stereo cable to carry a mono signal? Hi, the stereo cable is necessary for the signal to be balanced and to cancel the noise. Basically two copy of the same signal are running trough the cable, but phase inverted...the man who invented this trick ... was a genius...

350 is a good price, but I think that it depend on your needs. I would suggest to check out the comparison chart in the video to verify if there is any characteristic of the Helix that you need and that is missing in the Zoom. Furthermore, I would suggest you to verify if there is any specific amp that you like and that is not available in the zoom.

I compared the gt1000 to ax8 and the amps in the ax8 is so much better to the point that there is no comparison almost, just to dial a good rock tone in the gt1000 takes time and never felt or sounded good to me but in the ax8 it's a different story, what do you think Leo? I know you don't have ax8 but it's close to FM3 anyway
The real marshall is different and much better comparing with both Helix and Zoom.

I'm wondering why you would review these pedals together. The Line 6 is $1200. The Zoom is half that at $600. And to me it was indistinguishable from the Helix. I mean, do we actually need access to 60+ amps?
Hi Kevin, the price fluctuate over the time. When it first came out, the price of the G11 was higher, and at the moment of this test it was 750 vs 900 of the Helix. Nevertheless, many of you requested this comparison and as you said there could be things that influence the price (like the number of amps modeled) that are not of interest for some of us.

I have watched many of your videos and when it comes to comparing other modelers with zoom, you will give edge to the other modeler calling it to be of superior quality then the zoom.
It often ends up "Even zoom has more then XXX, the quality of the XXX is better"
And when the other Modeler has more simulators then all of a sudden the quality of the zoom wipes out.
Well, actually neither of these comparison videos is sponsored...therefore I don't see the points...For instance I have never received a penny from Line 6...these are my opinions and of course you may disagree, and that's totally fine. By the way, I have purchased both these units with my own money...
