The original studio version of this, in 1964 or whenever, was the very song that transformed me from a Beatle person to a lifelong Stones fan. Still loved the Beatles, of course.
I recently watched how Beck did controlled feedback on his guitar . Beck was pretty much hired to replace Taylor, but walked. He wouldn't have fit and this live performance would have never happened. Priceless improv feedback and how nicely the Stones didn't miss a beat , but they did have Charlie to keep it together . RIP To Charlie and his dedicated wife Shirley. 😔
I was present for this gig, as many 70's Knebworth concerts and can confirm the lateness of The Stones performance mentioned by Chris D below. Of their 60's output this remains my favourite song.
@Rhonda Page your right the stones are my favorite band they will always be the worlds greatest rock n roll band if someone doesn’t like the stones they don’t like music they don’t like Rock N Roll music the Beatles are way overrated stones are way better
@Robert Cross well with Eric Clapton was good what’s wrong with this version they still had Bill Wyman and Billy Preston and the Version from Love You Live was an excellent version as well but the whole band should of hung it up after Steel Wheels they were never the stones without Wyman
@@mikebarooshian7255 Agreed about hanging it up after Wyman left. Steel Wheels would have made a magnificent exit for the band. Now it's painful to watch them.
This 1976 Knebworth festival was one awesome day. A stellar line-up on a baking hot summers day with Todd Rundgren, Lynyrd Skynyrd and 10CC. 10CC were delayed by two hours because of technical problems with their sound system set up for playing for the first time the whole of their ground-breaking 'Original Soundtrack' album. Because of that extreme 2-hr delay The Stones, ended up playing their gig way in to the early hours of the Sunday morning. How late, well, let's just say they came on at midnight and left the stage at 2am. That's probably why Mick looks knackered? Or, was it something he'd taken earlier perhaps? That's rock'n'Roll for ya....The Stones gave 100% full-value for money that weekend and has lived with me ever since. Boy it was sooooooo awesome! RIP Charlie Watts. A quiet genius who was simply understated and brilliant with every beat of his sticks!
THE ROLLING STONES - NOW ! Sucking In The 60's, We LOVE YOU LIVE, Ron Wood plays the Brian Jones slide parts on this to A-T.. I saw the Stones @ MSG in 1975 & @ Shea stadium in 1989 when God got on stage and wowed us, but there's just something about the studio & this close as it gets to the 1960's version that will always remine close to my heart..
Cyndy , I was just about to type that in myself ! That whole 'El Mocambo' side 3 is just wonderful!! Did you know that originally they had planned to do one disc of the Live tour and the other was to be live recordings of new songs at the club. some of which must have ended up on Some Girls album. But then Keith got big time busted by the Toronto 'Mounties' so they decided to play some old favourites instead! Triumph in the face of adversity!!!
Mick Jagger was the hottest man on 2 legs in 1976. This version of "Little Red Rooster" just oozes sex. He had really learned how to work it in the 10 or so years from the earlier versions. I bet ovaries were exploding all over the room. I can't speak to the Jones vs Richard argument; I was a quite literally a child when Brian died.
It's a very nice enigmatic performance. I've always had impression that their early versions were very good but too innocent and "schoolboy"-ish. The fact it was banned on some radio stations for its controversial lyrics always puzzled me because why would anyone ban this. But this version is mature, sexy and musically more intense which I love more. Cool stuff.
You cannot listen to this without thinking about BRIAN JONES. The man the stones ignore & sadly have never ever paid tribute (except BIll). This song really made the band and was strangely omitted from the Hot Rocks albums.
My point is (maybe a bit too subtle) is that the original, with Brian Jones playing slide, was much much better than this. And to add to the point, Bi Diddley commented in the early Stones' years, that he didn't think a white man could play a guitar (slide) like Brian Jones did. Mick Taylor is fantastic, but Brian Jones was incomparable (obviously, when he was alive !) on the Stones' renditions using a slide.
it was a blessing when Jones finally passed .. because after that the Stones could get down to some serious Rock & Roll and finally move forward with Mick Taylor .. instead of waiting for Brian to snap out of it .
Oh my , where was thier blue's guitarist 😳❗Mick F-ing Taylor 😳❗Hmm not perfect or technical 🤔, but why does this sound like this is the way the blues should sound like. Love that ripping feedback , can't pre plan that. I saw them this tour ,you had to be there to know Taylor was never missed by me.😛😜❗
Excerpt from Paul Trynkas book " Sympathy for the Devil", about Brian Jones, regarding the recording & release of " Little Red Rooster". " Brian was overjoyed at the prospect, mentioning several times to Viv Prince & Phil May that the band was headed for Regent sound studio to record the song the next day." That's weird" thought May,who'd just been chatting to Ian Stewart ( the roadie)" I heard they were in the studio today". Ian Stewart picked up Brian at the appointed time & May & Prince went along for the ride. As they walked up the stairs to Regent sound & into the tiny studio, there was no sign of the band. "but there was a note on the chair" says May,"saying " Only play on these bits". They had done the whole thing, and left him to overdub. It was such a mean thing to do." Fact is Brian Jones was treated like shit by Mick & Keith from early on. They are a pair of nasty bastards.
There are some who say Lynyrd Skynyrd blew the Stones off the stage that day. That Lynyrd Skynyrd was very very good no doubt, but blew the Stones off the stage?? Highly doubtful
Vore ju trevlig om man själv fick välja den musik jag vill spela men det verkar helt omöjligt det är ett evigt hoppande .tröttsamt gör något åt detta problem TAck
what can I say, I am happy that they are still jumping around at 80, most of them at least
The original studio version of this, in 1964 or whenever, was the very song that transformed me from a Beatle person to a lifelong Stones fan. Still loved the Beatles, of course.
I also appreciate The Beatles, but why would I want to "Let It Be" when I can "Let It Bleed" =]
go listen to the live version of The Doors of this song in the New York Live concert, and become a The Doors fan...
I was a little Pop Beatles freak and I hated this song because it was so good 😜❗
Ronnie has always had such a great feel for slide !! ❤️
Thanks , Willie Dixon !
The original version was so nice,in all simplicity, just discovered it again.
Thank you Mick for never letting us down for 50+ years. Love you . You are beautiful.
You took those words right out of my mouth Cyndy .. amen .
Yep he da man!!!!
I listen to this song all the time . My favorite Stones - if I had to choose one. It’s this sound I love. Makes me happy
I recently watched how Beck did controlled feedback on his guitar . Beck was pretty much hired to replace Taylor, but walked. He wouldn't have fit and this live performance would have never happened. Love the Stones. One of my favorite songs.
Just beautiful shows micks voice and Keith's playing extremely well
Excellent and young. This was from the tail end of the Rolling Stones' best period.
always the stones they are the class act all time forever favorite !!!!
@Rhonda Page your right the stones are my favorite band they will always be the worlds greatest rock n roll band if someone doesn’t like the stones they don’t like music they don’t like Rock N Roll music the Beatles are way overrated stones are way better
16 year old me was there. They did narf come on late but played for ages doing what they done best ..blues and rock 'n roll.
Hairy done it. Absolutely beautiful.
"You play the music till the music plays you" (Miles Davies) That's what they do and that's why they are such a great band and have survived.
skykiss 12. That's a fantastic quote! & totally applicable to the Rolling Stones! Nice one
The best performance of this was when Eric Clapton joined them on stage during the Urban Jungle/Steel Wheels tour in '89. Awesome.
@Robert Cross well with Eric Clapton was good what’s wrong with this version they still had Bill Wyman and Billy Preston and the Version from Love You Live was an excellent version as well but the whole band should of hung it up after Steel Wheels they were never the stones without Wyman

The story I've understood is that Skynyrd at the top of their game blew the doors off everyone else and the footage seems to back that up
Master piece!
Willie Dixon was the creator.
A very nice version
keep on rocking us forever mick and the boys
Souvenir d'un festival ; j'avais 20 ans !
what an epic find!

Apart from the 2 short outbursts of screeching feedback around the 3 minute mark, this is a fantastic version
Check out the version from the Love You Live LP. It is The best IMO.....
Cyndy , I was just about to type that in myself ! That whole 'El Mocambo' side 3 is just wonderful!! Why don't you check with the Eric Clapton version
I’ve seen them 7 times , tuff act to open for or follow :-)
great performance
/thanks for posting this Hairyblues....love it
You're welcome.
fantastic!!!!

Keep on rolling
thanks a lot men!!!!!
i love stones.....

Love both the same.
Love that feedback around the 5:00 Mark. Goes well with it
Brilliant!!!
Missed Brian on Slide, but this Version is great !
Please never take this video down.
save them to your computer bud
I wonder if Keith still has that guitar. Mother of Pearl.
Stoned as hell and these guys still just nothing but kick ase
No band has ever been as the Stones are good at being really Bad and love the feed back on this ❗😜
Billy Preston So cool.
Wow, mick's pretty high...never seen him like this!
@Rainman JOHN Maybe but certainly not on stage, it's obvious if you ever took one.
You cannot listen to this without thinking about BRIAN JONES. The man the stones ignore & sadly have never ever paid tribute (except BIll). This song really made the band and was strangely omitted from the Hot Rocks albums.
Blame ABKCO
They mentioned him in very warm and nice words when they were entered in the rock and roll hall of fame to start with.
too cool! they don't sound like this anymore. love it!
vocals go crazy
See Junior Wells- Little Red Rooster !!!! We love the Stones , but watch the real ouwee gooey blues .....yessuh'
Long live Brian Jones, incomparable.
He was long dead by this time
Freddie needed to read the news in 1968.

He was already fired before he passed away.
Saying that it's a "blessing" when someone dies is not a nice thing to say.
Always prefer Jagger whith long hairs like here (a part of his charm), as in general for men.
savage blues great song harmonica solos and red headed bitches yeah
I just listened The Doors version of this song.
The founders of the Rolling Stones with Ronnie Wood...Showing how it's done.
Ronnie Wood: The best of the bad guitar players.
Keith Richards said Ronnie is a better guitar player than him
TRES Cool
have you got green leaves of summer or the
reobravo Alamo westerns
♥♥
Mick's high as a kite!!!!
Nice lil numba
Oooops, monitor feedback?
Oh my , where was thier blue's guitarist 😳❗Mick F-ing Taylor 😳❗Hmm not perfect or technical 🤔, but why does this sound like this is the way the blues should sound like. Go stones.👍
I like the Doors version better
Ron plays the lead but the director was deaf and blind
is that Billy Preston on keyboard?
Yep, that's him.
+Hairyblues awesome I thought so, thanks! and thanks for posting!
+Dewayne Clark you're welcome.
+Dewayne Clark Billy played with the Beatles and the Stones.
NÃO Elton john
This a good video, especially Mick. The music is not nearly as good as with Brian Jones playing. Is there a recording with Mick Taylor?
Barbara Hughes not of this tune, unfortunately. Mick Taylor performed it in his own band years later. Great guitar work, of course.
Good to see this but who put the mic on that f#*n Tamborine.
Check that . Just before the 3:00 minute mark
ah, obviousley it was hard to find a good end until Ron just kicked in something..
Where's Brian???

top
Brian Jones did the slide guitar on the original, frankly better than this performance.
He couldn't keep up...
And the outfit
they stopped ageing around here
The Stones' version of the lyrics don't make any sense :p
Drugs were involved.
The day that Lynyrd Skynyrd blew their arses into the middle of nowhere.
I think the rooster's at 2:54
THIS IS WACK NOT THE SAME WITH OUT BRIAN JONES R.I.P
Ronnie can't slide like MT.
Original b & w..all the charm of early RS's; this version a little too bloated.....but hey!......it's OK Stones, right?
This sounds terrible without Brian Jones playing the lead.
the original was FAR better.
None better . Keith's great but when he's Bad he's even better without Taylor 😎❗
LOL le regard halluciné de Jagger a 0"35
what a bunch of stoners lol
Dam,Mick was Fucked up
Dåligt ljud
skinny daze
s l o w.
Needs Mick Taylor
Vore ju trevlig om man själv fick välja den musik jag vill spela men det verkar helt omöjligt det är ett evigt hoppande .tröttsamt gör något åt detta problem TAck
Dåligt ljud som är störande
The doors do it better.
Ok. You can listen to the doors whenever you want.
Not the same song without Brian. !!!!
